Officer’s Installation Recap
SIGN Fracture Care letter Response At the October DCM we wrote a letter to every SIGN Hospital. I’m happy to report back with some of the responses.
Thank you so much for your letter! You have no idea how much it means to us here at Kijabe. To know that your Key Club has raised this amazing amount of money to help SIGN to help us to help people who have nowhere else to turn. The people we're helping are so vulnerable, and people like you and Yale Secondary School Key Club transform their lives from one of pain and disability to ones of joy and recovery. You have something very special in common with the doctors here: you don't just talk about what's right, you do it. Thanks again for your amazing generosity and spirit.
Mabuhay from the Philippines!
I attached x-rays and a photo of Kamau, a man who was hit by a car, breaking both femurs. Normally in Africa, this would mean three months in traction, at bed rest, and the legs would heal shortened, crooked, and painful. The picture is taken at our outpatient clinic, one month after his injury, with SIGN nails in both femurs, standing and walking under his own power! SIGN nail has been a miracle for so many people like Kamau. Thank you again for supporting us.
We really appreciate your letter. This will encourage us some more to do better than our very best, and to continue serving wholeheartedly. As you may know, our country is hit with the strongest typhoon in recorded history and the damage to life and property is tremendous. We have already sent a team from the Southern Philippines Medical Center to perform Orthopedic Surgeries/procedures and help our devastated brethren in Tacloban and Samar. Young as you and the rest of your Key Club members are, you guys serve as an inspiration to all of us.
Mike
We are very honored to be the beneficiary of your fund-raising activity. Please tell your friends that all their labor and hard work will not go in vain, but it will go a long way. You see, we are helping very poor people who cannot afford implants for their surgeries and most of them have children to support and feed. If they will not be operated on, they will not be able to feed or support their respective families. We also operated on children and because of the kindness of people like you, they are now able to play and go back to school.

BATEMAN
Bateman Key Club was very busy this December. We focused solely on one project for SIGN Fracture Care: the Christmas Tree Competition. Bateman key club members were grouped into a team with 5-8members, and they got to choose the theme to decorate their tree. Each team was responsible for their own advertising and collection of the funds. On the last Thursday and Friday before winter break, each Christmas tree team was busy collecting donations from students and staff during the day. At the end of the day the top 3 trees were the Garbage Tree with $234.39, the Candy Cane tree with $165.15, and the Hunger Games Tree with $149.17. With all the funds collected from all 7 teams, the total amount collected was approximately $800. As President of this Key Club, I am very proud of all the members that participated with enthusiasm and am very proud of this accomplishment. Through this project I have seen not only great teamwork but individual passion for volunteering shine as well. A big thank you to SIGN International for doubling our donation, and thank you to the members who worked hard on this project. You guys deserve a “pat on the back!
YALE
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Yale Secondary's Key Club! During the month of December, Yale students continued to volunteer at the Seven Oaks Mall for the Angel Tree. People purchase Christmas gifts for a specific child and then they are delivered by the Salvation Army. Volunteers are responsible for ensuring the security of the gifts. In addition, students successfully recycled during the last week of school and on the last day of school, many volunteers spent their Friday night at the local Food Bank. Furthermore, during the winter break, some students decided to volunteer for the Salvation Army by collecting donations. Also, we are hoping that a large number of Yale students will be attending DCON, and we will be giving out more information at our next meeting. In the upcoming month, we will also initiate a student project that focuses on ending sexual exploitation of children. Moreover, a certain problem that has been occurring for some time is the lack of attendance in our weekly meetings. We hope to increase the number of volunteers at our meetings, continue to support the Eliminate Project, and offer more volunteering opportunities for our members,
GARIBALDI
In the month of December, Garibaldi Key Club had a very successful month. With the help of the olden Ears Kiwanis Club, put on a massive Christmas party for families who were less fortunate during the time of the season. We had just over a hundred people show up, and it was an absolutely enriching experience. The club was also able to finish off 2013 with a bang! We collected nearly a thousand dollars, 1350 pounds in food, and additional 900 pounds in toys and clothing with the help of teachers from Garibaldi Secondary School. We have yet to plan large events for the year to come, but we have some fantastic ideas, and the enthusiasm that comes with the new year! Personally, I am extremely excited for the year to come, and all that it has to offer!
SOLH
For the month of December SOLH Key Club, we sent members to help out at Kiwanis Christmas Party. We took part in their stations and in the clean up. We all had great fun and it was rewarding to see the joy on the children's face. We have also done two more Eliminate fundraisers this month. We held a fundraisers where students paid a donation of 25 cents to guess how many gumballs were in a jar. On top of this, one of our members held a Christmas bake sale to bring in some more support
ABBY
Happy Holidays Key Clubbers! This December at Abby Senior, we started two large projects at the Key Club. Our first project is selling coffee and treats in the morning during exams. Our second project is to knit toques, scarves and hats for typhoon relief in the Philippines. In addition to the knitting, we are also braiding bracelets to raise awareness for women’s rights across the world. We hope to accomplish these projects wholeheartedly in January.
