March Newsletter |Volume 2|Issue 12|March, 2014|
Hello Leaders! Ahhh… What a year it has been. As my term is rapidly approaching, symbolized the creation of my last newsletter, I am overcome with the flood of emotions. Both, pride and sadness. I have seen you all embrace the idea of “servant leadership” and making an impact on the world. Each club has made me so proud. You have all given me so much to be proud of and remember. This year has been filled with growth. Our division grew to include Abby Builder’s club and ATSS Key Club. Not only did we grow in size, but also a growth in divisional spirit. These growth are only possible through all the efforts you guys have put in. Throughout all the accomplishments and setbacks I hope all of you has learned skills that will help you in the future. I am looking forward to seeing as many of you at DCON and KEY LEADER as possible. Those are both perfect opportunities to show the rest of the district how great the SALMONs truly are. On the same note, be sure to pay for your division t-shirt ASAP. As the money is used to purchase other spirit gears that we will be using at DCON. If you are attending DCON, the DCM is mandatory as we will be receiving our divisional shirts, making spirit gear and learning cheers. Even if you are not attending DCON, youa re still invited to partake in the DCM. I am looking forward to all the growth that our next lieutenant governor Pranav Arya will be bringing to our division. Please cherish all the moments and the hard work the incoming executive and Pranav will put into the division because the year will go by so fast. I would like to say THANK YOU to all the Kiwanians, advisers, Key Club members, my Family and anyone that might have contributed even the slightest to my term. Without your continual support, we would not have raised over thousands of money for various charities or thousands of hours of community service accumulated. For my Key club members: I feel so blessed to have been able to serve you all and I love you all. <3

I am so proud of my club in the last month. Several of us participated in walking 10 km in the snow for Coldest Night of the Year. We raised $3 058 and are in FIRST for most money raised in Chilliwack. This is a great step towards helping the homeless in our city. And a major congratulation for Tiana who raised over $1000 all on her own. I cannot congratulate Solh Key Club's new executive members enough. I know that Erin, Tiana, Alex, Laura and Anne will do an amazing job next year and bring our little club to brand new levels! I also cannot forget to thank my entire club for making this year one to remember! I wish everyone good luck in the following year!

Bateman's key Club was busy in the month of February gearing up to fundraise for DCON! 16 of our members will be attending this event in April and have currently raised $300.00 in funding from a bottle drive and cupcake trolley. Also in late February 20+ of our members volunteered at the kiwanis annual volleyball tournament at Yale score keeping, selling, refereeing and being lines men! Great work! We hope to meet many new Key Clubbers at DCON and we wish everyone a wonderful spring break!
Hello Key Clubbers! This month at the Abby Senior Key Club we focoused on fundraising. We had two different fundraisers to raise money for women's rights awareness. One of them was a cookie and bracelet sale which we hosted during lunchtimes and in the morning. Our other fundraiser was a hot chocolate sale which we had in the morning on Collaboration Day. Additionally, we started our planning for 30 Hour Famine. We will be presenting to the staff shortly and hope to have everything run without a hitch! I'll see you at DCON!

It is crazy to think how far the year has gone! This time last year we had a new Ltg. Comgin; our very own Shirley Chou, everybody was getting pumped for DCON and everybody was electing new executives. A lot goes on this time of the year for our clubs. Garibaldi Secondary Schools Key Club is excited for the events coming up. We have had a slow first couple months of the year, while completing a bottle drive to raise money for Project eliminate, but we are looking to an exciting next 3 months. We have 6 of our own members going down to this yearâ€&#x;s DCON, and they are all very excited for the time they are going to have there. I, and everyone else, are excited to see all the new faces that will be taking on the positions elected for this DCON, and working with other Key Clubbers during the end of this year, and the beginning of the next.
Why did we start a Key Club at our high school? When we, Ekanki and Sahil Chawla, met Mr. Steve Carlton at a volunteer event and heard about Key Club, we were so inspired that we decided to start one up, too, and voila! Abbotsford Traditional Secondary‟s Key Club was born! We kicked off the year with 54 members!
What are our goals for the New Year? We hope to leave a legacy behind at our school. Although we may be graduating this year, we sure anticipate that this club will continue to run for many years to come. We hope that they continue to increase awareness about growing local issues and raise money for important causes.
What are some of our most recent projects? We organized a fun fair through which nearly $300 were raised for a service project to build houses down in Mexico. We also participated in the We Scare Hunger campaign and collected nearly $500 worth of canned goods. We have also raised many warm clothing articles for the local homeless to aid during the winter. Our Key Club spread winter joy at the Menno Hospital and Home when we Christmas caroled for the seniors. We‟ve also raised over $800 for the BC Children‟s hospital. Most recently, our Key Club hosted a Bullying Awareness event, to which we had a great turnout from the entire community! Throughout the year, we have done various Radom Acts of Kindness multiple times; these include handing out free cookies and cupcakes to students as they entered the school, writing motivational quotes and statements for all lockers, etc.
ATSS Key Club Outline of some of the activities ATSS have performed: -ATSS Key Club‟s 1st Annual Fun Fair, our take on increasing school spirit and helping bring the school closer together. We were able to raise nearly $300, which was all donated to Mr. Gasser‟s Mexico Trip. -Random Acts of Kindness: Placing motivational quotes/ statements on all the lockers in the school. -Random Acts of Kindness: Handing out free cookies and cupcakes on a Collaboration Day from 8am – 9:15am. -Instead of going door to door and asking for candy/chocolate, we all collected food items and donated (nearly $500 worth of food) to the Abbotsford Food Bank. -Christmas Carolling at the Menno Hospital and Menno House -We collected various clothing items (jackets, mittens, socks, etc.) that could be donated to the Cyrus Centre and help out folks who are in need of these items, during the cold times. -We raised nearly 100 jeans for the Jean For Teens Project with the Do Something organization -We did multiple Pancake Breakfasts which were able to raise and donate nearly $1000, with the help of the Kiwanis Foundation of Canada. -We initiated a Green Team, by dividing our key club into various groups (according to their neighborhoods). These groups go out on a weekly basis and clean various parts of their neighborhoods and we get together on a monthly basis to clean a certain part of the community. -We organized an Anti-Bullying Awareness Event, showcasing the various organizations in our community, which are avail able for youth and families to resort to, in times of help

Yale Key Club
February was a very busy month for the members here at Yale! To begin the month, numerous people volunteered to usher at our musical, „The Shrek.‟ The musical turned out to be very successful and our volunteers did a fantastic job! Additionally, we initiated an event called Minute to Win It, which is something that we will now be doing monthly. For the month of February, we asked the entire student body to donate their used glasses. This initiative is called SOS, Save Old Spectacles, and these glasses will be donated to the people who need them. Furthermore, we decided to sell hot chocolate in the morning before class and during lunch time. The money raised will go towards my project, called The Underage Project, which focuses on supporting the victims of child sexual exploitation. Also, several people signed up to assist a volleyball tournament from February 21st to the 22nd in support for children‟s cancer. And lastly, congratulations to our Salmon of the Month, Alexa Ezergailis! Alex has actively participated during the February events. We are looking forward to another busy yet fun month!
