October Newsletter Greetings !

Having been back in school for a month, I hope you all have been well balancing homework, with extracurricular. For some of you ,the dreaded scholarship essays. Div.11/18c is a family and we have each other’s support and is always willing to lend a helping hand, whether through going out for pumpkin spice lattes or help in chemistry. Please don’t hesitate to ask for help.

Great news for the division, we are currently in the process of chartering another Key Club at Abbotsford Traditional Secondary.

I can not wait to see the difference you all will make to your community . Inspiring others to partake in service as well.

Kiwanis Children Cancer Program help fund doctor’s training to become a Paediatric Cancer Doctor.

Bateman Key Club Robert Bateman Key Club is ready and in full swing for the new year! With posters, video announcements, and candy grams we have a club when more than 40 members-a Bateman record! The best part about this is that we have eager members from every single grade, starting from gr.9s. With membership taken care of, our two projects for this month that the members will be taking on are Halloween for hunger and Operation Christmas Child. I am confident that we will attain much success from these two worthy projects. Last, but not least, our club will be having a "Key Club T-shirt" contest for our new 2013-2014 shirts. Each member can design a shirt online and we will be voting on our favourite next week! May the best shirt win and may our year be filed with great service and fun! :) -Yujin Song

Yale Key Club Yale Secondary’s Key Club was very excited to meet new members and to see their committed students again! September was an active month for the executives (Rachel Lee, Soomin Choi, Sung Il An, Gabrielle Krillow, Angela Li, Laura Egolf, Jane Kim, Tiffany Hoang, and Anna McMahon). On September 21st, a few of our members helped with enthusiasm at the Hunger Response International booth on Save-On-Foods, as well as for the multicultural festival. In addition, many students were eager to volunteer in the kitchen at the Kiwanis Installation on Friday, September 27th. The results from the first recycling team at Yale were very successful! With communication skills and teamwork, we were able to raise $170 in 40 minutes. We are looking forward to what this year has in store for Key Club.

Abby Key Club This month at the Abby Senior Key Club, we reaquainted as a club. At our first meeting, I explained what it means to be a Key Clubber and how Key Club is truly unique. As the month progressed, we decided upon event we’d like to do over the course of the year and which charities we will support. We also decided to have a monthly hangout with the entire Club. For October, we are planning on going skating. Also, many of our members helped out with Kiwanis Family Fun Day at Mill Lake. Our members were responsible for helping with advertizing, face-painting and the crafts table. For our club, September has been mostly about organizing and planning for the rest of the year. We finally found our bell and podium, which I had tons of fun with. Welcome back to Key Club -Pranav Arya

S.O.H.L Key Club SOHL Key Club at GW Graham has begun a year of planning. After a Pizza Party Meeting to bring in new members, we jumped straight into planning. Our first event will be selling jell-o cups to our school in the middle of the month. All money raised at this event will go to Eliminate. We are also making a contest out of it by having a sticker on the bottom of some of the cups. The student who gets this will win a gift card or coupon donated from local restaurants. At the moment, Dairy Queen and Burger King have both donated. Our club has already gathered once to make posters to hang around our school. Our other plan is to have a bake sale at the end of the month on October 30. Our club will bake the night before at a Baking Party and all snakes made will be sold at our school the next day.

This will probably be Halloween themed. We have high hopes that this will be a productive and creative year for our club.

Garibaldi Key Club I am happy and enthusiastic to say that I really look forward to this year in Key Club.

We, as a new club, had a fantastic first year, and as a club are collectively excited for the future. We have many new members this year, and with it have huge ideas to continue to perpetuate Key Club spirit and ideology! Although we have had a slow start, I am confident that with club spirit and enthusiasm, that we will hit the ground running, and truly DIVE INTO SERVICE! -Nick Nichols

What is Key Leader?

Key Leader is a weekend leadership program for today’s young leaders. This life-changing event focuses on service leadership as the first, most meaningful leadership development experience.

There will be large and small group workshops and team building activities. Students will be able to learn leadership skills that will help them change their schools, communities, and world for the better. You will meet new friends and have an experience you will never forget.

Youth Opportunity Fund Youth Opportunity Fund is a grant for service projects or scholarships for higher education. Y.O.F is funded by a portion of the international dues. Grants range from $100-$2,000. Look around your community, school and the world for things that need to be done.

The application is available online at www.keyclub.org/services/yof The application is due by Oct.15.

K-Family News On Sept.27, 2013 at the Legacy Building..

Mrs.Anne Penner was installed as the Lieutenant Governor for Division 18 of Kiwanis. Not only is a Lieutenant Governor, but she is also Yale Key Club’s Kiwanis Advisor and Co-Chair for SIGN Fracture Care.

Her job is much like mine, Connect the clubs with PNW Districts and help wherever needed. She has 11 clubs to oversee from Sardis to Bellingham: and all the clubs in between.

Together we hope to make this world better for children in our communities and around the world.

Membership Dues How many members have you recruited this year? Do you have 15 members? Those are some things to keep in mind while doing club membership. I’ve seen dues reminder both on social media and in person. It seems like a lot of you are aiming for the EARLY BIRD (Nov.1). By turning in your dues on time means we have a better chance to get better seats at DCON 2014. All of your advisers should have received an email containing the email and password.
