“The colors of nature, the patterns of nature, the music of nature are my inspiration”

Alena Wils is a trained visual and ceramist artist. She is also a danish writer and illustrator of the book Nøglen til hjertet and illustrator of the book Sofus fra Bornholm.

She went to the Arts college in her hometown Irkutsk, Siberia and then to the Academy of Arts and Crafts in Saint Petersburg, Russia

In 2008, she went to Del Danske Kunstakaderni schools for Architecture, Design and Conservation, Copenhagen, Denmark as an exchange student. And trained as a potter and ceramic artist at the Danish Design School Bornholm, Nekso.

“I am a colorist - all my art is about colors”, she says. Watercolors being her preferred medium of choice, she also loves the process of ceramics, especially enjoys working with the various glazes.

Portraits and landscapes form a big part of her oeuvre. Her paintings at times are created as a spontaneous response to a beautiful colored radiant sky or, a shimmering its reflections in the water. Like a magician, she conjures the visual interplay of the atmosphere in her paintings. The dull greys can turn into something spectacular when they manifest in her artwork.
