Award-winning Taiwanese artist/painter Chang Kai-Yung is a Classical/Realist painter, his works are deeply affected by the classic Western masters. Using diverse materials, he integrates the classical with the contemporary. The artist combines tempera and oils to illustrate his subjects with a classical appeal.

Chang’s works are mainly the illustrations of contemporary subjects in a surreal setting. From the picking of the materials of his choosing, the technique he utilizes right to his choices of subject and to putting them in their unique setting, Chang selects each step of his painting process carefully. The surreal characters and objects created with his techniques project a sense of loneliness and mystical illusion. His paintings have an ethereal quality. The viewer gets a sensation of weightlessness and puts them in a dream-like trance.

His works have an individual style as he blends reality with illusion. This unique and very visual language can only be understood by absorbing his paintings utilizing all of our senses. He has an uncanny knack of making the viewer a part of his paintings, compelling us to interact with it, engage with his subjects, and feel the same sensations as they do.

Chang has exhibited widely in Taiwan and abroad and currently residents in Taoyuan, Taiwan
