Arvo Aun is an Estonian artist who had no plans to become an artist. He graduated from the University of Tartu, the national university of Estonia, with a degree in mathematics! It was after the age of 40, he got his calling as an artist.
A self-taught artist, Arvo when he started out to, he was imitating the style of other artists. Copying other the master’s works. Until he met Renaldo Veeber, a well-known Estonian sculptor and graphic artist
Arvo took under his tutelage and it was he who was instrumental in Arvo finding his own style. “If you copy other artists, then you are no one in art. You have to find your way”, says Arvo.
Arvo Aun (pseudonym el Esto) started naming his works ‘cosmic bag’, which is characterized by a dark background to achieve image depth. And then later Stochastic, which refers to the randomly a random probability distribution process he adopts while creating his artwork.
As his audience accepted this authentic style, Arvo got deeper into it. He found the term Tachism and added the word Cosmic to it. His paintings are an exploration of space. They take you into a dark void and then take you on a tizzy trip with the million speckled stars splattered all over his canvas. Each canvas is a different trip, a different galaxy. This Cosmic Tachism works!
