CITY OF SAN JOSE POLICIES REGISTRATION POLICIES  Our method of registration is designed to offer equal access to all.   







San José residents and Active Adult members are eligible for early registration.

Customers can register for any class at any PRNS facility. Registration will be accepted in person, mail, fax, or online. Phone registrations will not be accepted.

Registration forms will be processed in the order they are received.

Registration will be accepted until the second class meeting if the course is still available. If the course requested is full, the participant will be registered for their second choice or placed on a wait list.

Please be prompt when dropping off or picking up your child from his/her class. Children may not enter the class until the scheduled class or activity time. Children who arrive late to a class or activity should enter quietly and join in the activity.

If a class is cancelled by the City, a make-up class will be added to the end of the session. In the event that a class cannot be rescheduled for a make-up by the City, a refund will be issued for the missed class. If the participant misses a class, no refunds will be issued.

All wait list participants will be contacted only if there is an available spot in the class.

REFUND/TRANSFER POLICY  All refund and transfer requests need to be made in writing.  Request may be submitted in person to any PRNS facility or by email to SJRegistration@sanjoseca.gov.

 All refund and transfer requests must be received at least 14 calendar

 

days prior to the start of the program/class. No refunds will be issued for cancellations received less than 14 calendar days prior to the start of the program/class.

There will be a $10 refund processing fee for EACH activity and EACH child.

If a class was paid with cash or check, a refund check will be mailed and may take 6-8 weeks for processing. If a class was paid with a credit card, the refund will be credited back to the credit card.

MINIMUM ENROLLMENT/CLASS CANCELLATION  The City of San José, Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services reserves the right to the cancel any class or activity that does not meet a set minimum enrollment. Please register early to avoid class cancellations. We will make every effort to notify you at least five days prior to the scheduled course starting date. Please do not purchase supplies until five days prior to the start of the class. If a class is canceled, you will receive a full refund from the City, excluding class supplies.

PREREQUISITES FOR CLASS  Please note all requirements, dates, and times for classes offered before enrolling. All participants must meet the age requirement on the first day of the class or activity.

SATISFACTION GUARANTEED  We want to provide quality programs to all participants. If you are not satisfied with your program, please let us know. Contact staff at your local facility or email us at SJRegistration@sanjoseca.gov

PRE-SCHOOL POLICIES  Please refer to the SJ Recreation Preschool Section

PAYMENT PLANS POLICY  Automatic payments are processed on the twentieth (20th) day of each month. A full payment is required to hold your child’s spot for the following month. Additionally, if payment is not received by the 1st of the month, students will be withdrawn from the class. If your credit/debit card account changes, please notify the community center front desk staff. If you do not plan to have your child continue, we request that you notify the community center staff at least two (2) weeks prior to your child’s last day. This will allow us to stop your automatic payment on time.

LATE PICK UP POLICY  The City of San José, Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services wants to ensure the safety and well-being of every participant. Participants must be picked up at the scheduled class end time. If, after five minutes, a participant is not picked up, we may charge $1.00 per participant for every minute thereafter. All fees must be paid prior to the participant returning to the class. We understand that emergencies may happen. If you have any emergency and are unable to pick up your child on time, contact the community center.

SUMMER CAMPS– SPORTS CAMPS SKYHAWKS MINI-HAWK

This multi-sport program was developed to give 4 to 7 year-olds a positive first step into athletics. Sports are taught in a safe, structured environment filled with encouragement and fun. Through games and activities, campers explore balance, hand/eye coordination and skill development at their own pace. Participants should wear appropriate clothing and running shoes; bring two snacks, a water bottle, and sunscreen. All children receive an award certificate. Skyhawks t-shirt and ball.

“KIDZ LOVE SOCCER” SOCCER CAMP

Spend a week enjoying the world’s most popular sport in a fun, recreational environment. Learn and practice soccer skills including: dribbling, passing, receiving, shooting and defense. Everyone is a winner as the week’s fun culminates in an age-appropriate “World Cup” tournament. All campers will receive a soccer jersey.

SKYHAWKS BEGINNING GOLF CAMP

Campers will learn the fundamentals of swinging, putting, body positioning, etiquette and keeping score. The program is specifically designed for the entry-level player, simplifying instruction so that young players can make an easy and effective transition onto the golf course. All equipment provided. ACTIVE ADULT 50+ EXCERCISE MEDICAL QI GONG Medical Qi Gong has been practiced for thousands of years.

The exercises can be in the form of stretching, meditation, and channeling. This can bring emotional release to our body. The wide range of therapeutic exercises are used to stretch the connective tissue surrounding the muscles, thus enhancing physical strength of muscles and bones as well as flexibility. ACTIVE ADULTS 50+ ACTIVITIES & SERVICES SENIOR ADVISORY COUNCIL The Senior Advisory Council serves as an interface between the center’s staff and senior participants to advise city staff about activities, programs, and concerns affecting the senior community. Meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month at 1:00pm in Room 7.

HICAP The Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) provides free and objective information and counseling about Medicare. Volunteer counselors help senior 60+ understand their rights and health care options. Meets the third Thursday of the month from 9:30am-12:30pm.

An appointment is required.

SENIOR PEER ADVOCATES (SPA)

ON HOLD UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE COMPUTER LAB HOURS Monday through Thursday 9:00am-4:30pm Friday 9:00am-3:30pm Computer “Free-Time” hours will coincide with the availability of volunteers. Please let us know if you would like to volunteer a few hours a week!

BINGO Join the fun of Bingo every Tuesday at 1:15pm. You’ll get free snacks, door prizes, and special games. Payouts for regular games are $90.00 and $140.00 for Blackout. BINGO Pack is only $6 per pack (all 10 games). Bring your daubers, bring your friends, and have fun!

LET’S HAVE LUNCH! SENIOR NUTRITION Lunch served Monday through Friday at 12:00 pm for seniors age 60 and older. The menu is listed in the monthly newsletter available at the center. Call (408) 6299606 to make reservations at least 24 hours in advance, but no more than two weeks in advance.

BALLROOM DANCE Thursday’s from 1:30pm - 3:30pm Join us for an afternoon of dancing with friends. Only $1 at the door! Ballroom dance takes place in the Location: Multipurpose Room.

TAP DANCE Wednesday from 10:00am - 12:00pm Come and join the Dazzling Divas Dance Group and perform for Southside’s special events. Registration not required. Takes place in the Fitness Room.

LOCAL CRAFTERS BOUTIQUE Beautiful handmade items are sold Monday-Friday!

SENIOR ADULT LEGAL ASSISTANCE (SALA) Occurs on the first and third Friday of each month from
