CITY OF SAN JOSE POLICIES REGISTRATION POLICIES  Our method of registration is designed to offer equal access to all.   

San José residents and Active Adult members are eligible for early registration. Customers can register for any class at any PRNS facility. Registration will be accepted in person, mail, fax, or online. Phone registrations will not be accepted. Registration forms will be processed in the order they are received. Registration will be accepted until the second class meeting if the course is still available. If the course requested is full, the participant will be registered for their second choice or placed on a wait list. Please be prompt when dropping off or picking up your child from his/her class. Children may not enter the class until the scheduled class or activity time. Children who arrive late to a class or activity should enter quietly and join in the activity. If a class is cancelled by the City, a make-up class will be added to the end of the session. In the event that a class cannot be rescheduled for a make-up by the City, a refund will be issued for the missed class. If the participant misses a class, no refunds will be issued. All wait list participants will be contacted only if there is an available spot in the class.

PREREQUISITES FOR CLASS  Please note all requirements, dates, and times for classes offered before enrolling. All participants must meet the age requirement on the first day of the class or activity.

SATISFACTION GUARANTEED  We want to provide quality programs to all participants. If you are not satisfied with your program, please let us know. Contact staff at your local facility or email us at SJRegistration@sanjoseca.gov

PRE-SCHOOL POLICIES  Please refer to the SJ Recreation Preschool Section

PAYMENT PLANS POLICY  Automatic payments are processed on the twentieth (20th) day of each month. A full payment is required to hold your child’s spot for the following month. Additionally, if payment is not received by the 1st of the month, students will be withdrawn from the class. If your credit/debit card account changes, please notify the community center front desk staff. If you do not plan to have your child continue, we request that you notify the community center staff at least two (2) weeks prior to your child’s last day. This will allow us to stop your automatic payment on time.

REFUND/TRANSFER POLICY

 All refund and transfer requests need to be made in writing.  Request may be submitted in person to any PRNS facility or by email to

 All refund and transfer requests must be received at least 14 calendar

days prior to the start of the program/class. No refunds will be issued for cancellations received less than 14 calendar days prior to the start of the program/class. There will be a $10 refund processing fee for EACH activity and EACH child. If a class was paid with cash or check, a refund check will be mailed and may take 6-8 weeks for processing. If a class was paid with a credit card, the refund will be credited back to the credit card.

MINIMUM ENROLLMENT/CLASS CANCELLATION  The City of San José, Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services reserves the right to the cancel any class or activity that does not meet a set minimum enrollment. Please register early to avoid class cancellations. We will make every effort to notify you at least five days prior to the scheduled course starting date. Please do not purchase supplies until five days prior to the start of the class. If a class is canceled, you will receive a full refund from the City, excluding class supplies.

SUMMER CAMP SAN JOSE

CAMP SAN JOSE @ SOUTHSIDE COMMUNITY CENTER At Camp San José your child will participate in an unforgettable summer day camp experience combining summer camp traditions with enrichment and educational activities. Children will play crazy fun games, sports, create cool arts and crafts projects, sing funny songs and embark on a weekly field trip. Take off on an adventure of super hero fun! Parachutes and tumbling mats, song and dance, arts and crafts, will have super heroes active and moving and imagination flowing. Children explore and experiment with painting, drawing, textures, collages, and other basic art techniques. SUMMER CAMPS– ACTIVE MULTI SPORTS SKYHAWKS MINI-HAWK

This multi-sport program was developed to give 4 to 7 year-olds a positive first step into athletics. Soccer, Baseball & Basketball are taught in a safe, structured environment filled with encouragement and fun. Through games and activities, campers explore balance, hand/eye coordination, and skill development at their own pace. All participants receive a ball, t-shirt and a merit award. It's a bird! It's a plane! No, it's...everything from the earliest flying machines to the first rocket flights. This hands-on program will let you learn all about aerodynamics and the world above us. Explore the basic principles of flight, build airplanes, test them in wind tunnels, ride a hovercraft and construct balloon copters. Look out 007 - the Mad Science Spy Academy is here! From message decoding to metal detectors and night vision, campers will have the opportunity to check out spy equipment and even create their own edible message. Step into the shoes of a detective as you uncover the science involved in evidence gathering and analysis. Figure out the science of forensics in a hands-on look at crime scenes. Become a super spy and learn clever ways of performing tasks as we take a hands-on view of the science that spies use. The take-homes for this camp were designed by "Q" himself. NASA: JOURNEY INTO OUTER SPACE- HALF DAY

Mad Science and NASA have teamed up to bring you the excitement and wonder of space in this new voyage of discovery. See the principles of thrust and propulsion at work as we explore the atmosphere on earth and beyond! Watch star dust burn, and journey through a galaxy as you investigate the life cycle of stars. Explore the farthest reaches of our solar system and create a lunar eclipse in the "mad" planetary tour. Probe the mysteries of meteors and bounce around satellite light as your learn about space phenomena. It's out of this world! All campers should wear closed-toe shoes and clothes that may get dirty. ACTIVE ADULT 50+ EXCERCISE MEDICAL QI GONG Medical Qigong has been practiced for thousands of years. The exercises can be in the form of stretching, meditation, and channeling. This can bring emotional release to our body. This program is based on the Arthritis Foundation’s suggested exercises for individuals with arthritis and joint pain. This lowimpact class addresses the pain, fatigue, and decreased strength that often accompanies arthritis. Exercises may be done seated or standing and also includes optional floor exercises. Meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month at 1:00pm in Room 7.

HICAP The Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) provides free and objective information and counseling about Medicare. Volunteer counselors help senior 60+ understand their rights and health care options. Meets the third Thursday every month. An appointment is required.
