SKY Babes We have just begun our holidays and I know we are super excited as we are also heading into the New Year. Buckle up! This issue has a lot of interesting articles in store for you, get ready to be motivated for your boss babe type of vibe.
This issue with the theme future niyanga outlines so many ways, tips, and motivation for a bright and planned future. Being future-focused to me simply means doing the very best to make sure your future goes as planned, by also thinking of the outcomes and sticking to the plan. It is important to be future-focused because there's no future without a proper plan elo plus you know the future is in your hands ka ni yanu guys! Being future focused also means knowing what’s for you, and what’s not for you and making decisions based on what you want for your future. For example, if you want to be a top athlete like Barbara Banda, or Mia Phiri, you’ll know that smoking is not your thing and will choose not to smoke so as to not ruin your future success. With this issue, I am certain we will be able to remain future-focused and motivated. #futureniyanga Well besties, you know we're all about that baddie life, right? But let's be real, keeping up the baddie vibes with cool outfits can cost a pretty penny. Well, guess what? We've got you covered in our Thrifters Paradise article! This pick right here will turn you into a budget-friendly baddie. Don't sleep on the options we have shared in the article, babes. It’s time to shop and slay on a budget for the holidays! We are screaming the future in this issue and the letter to my 25-year-old self is just in sync with it. Our SKY sistah Susy Thomas in her letter writes about how proud she is of her achievements as of now and also reminds herself to continue staying true to herself to get past all the peer pressure and challenges coming her way. This letter is another way to visualise what the future has in store for us, and how we make decisions based on what our future self needs. I would advise you to do the same. Setting a goal or goals is very important because it helps you stay focused and organized and also gives you a sense of direction towards your future. You can read an article on how to set goals to help you do the same, and there’s a pull out for you to write down your goals for 2024. Well, babes, this issue has so many articles to boost your confidence, motivate you, and make you feel good. I enjoyed reading each and every article in it. All the great stuff made me want to read more and more! I know you will enjoy reading it as much as I did and remember - you own your future, just like the name of this issue - future ni yanga (the future belongs to me).

TO A NEW YEARS
RESOLUTION
1
By Rosaria Kapya
ALTERNATIVES
We are already going into a new year and we definitely need to prepare for the upcoming year, and it’s long been said that New Year’s resolutions don’t work, so here are 10 alternatives for setting your New Year’s resolutions babes!
Monthly Challenges:
Instead of setting a single New Year's resolution, consider setting monthly challenges for yourself, each month, focus on a specific goal or habit. This approach keeps things fresh and exciting.
2
Vision Board:
3
One Word Theme:
6
Skill Development:
Set out to learn a new skill or hobby in the coming year. It could be anything from playing a musical instrument to cooking.
7
Create a vision board that represents your goals and aspirations for the year. Visualizing your dreams can be a powerful motivator.
Start by visualizing your end goal and then work backwards to identify the steps required to reach it. This technique helps you break down larger goals into manageable tasks.
8
Choose a single word to guide your year. This word should encapsulate your intentions and remind you of your priorities.
4
Bucket List:
Gratitude Journal:
Start a gratitude journal to record the positive moments and things you're thankful for each day. This practice can boost your happiness and perspective on how you see things.
Mind Mapping:
Create a visual representation of your goals and their interconnections using a mind map. This can help you see the bigger picture and identify key steps.
Create a teen-friendly bucket list with activities and experiences you want to have during the year. It's a fun way to stay motivated sis.
5
Backwards Goal Setting:
9
Accountability Partners:
Another goal-setting technique would be to partner up with someone who shares similar goals; this could be your best friend or sister, and hold each other accountable for progress. Regular check-ins and support can boost motivation and commitment throughout the period.
10 WOOP
(Wish, Outcome, Obstacle, Plan):
For this goal-setting technique you will have to define your desired outcome, visualize the benefits of achieving the goal, identify potential obstacles or challenges, and create a detailed plan to overcome obstacles and achieve your goal.
Remember, the key is to set achievable and realistic goals that are tailored to your interests and needs. Flexibility is essential, and it's okay to adapt your goals as the year progresses. Combining techniques can also be effective in different situations. Remember to regularly review and adjust your goals as needed to stay on track 7 and achieve success.
PROM DRESSES Prom is as big as the Met gala in high school, and it can be stressful to prep for it. That’s why your big sis Wawu That’s My Dress Zambia host and Makofi S3 head wardrobe stylist Mulenga Chileshe has laid out some tips for you.
BALL GOWN Eating before going to prom should never be a problem girlfriends because that’s why ball gowns were invented! Lol A ball gown will make you look and feel like a princess without stressing If it’s long enough you can wear sneakers and nobody is gonna know!
GLOSSY
8
A silk dress is a classy and timeless choice that will make your prom pictures look iconic in future. Apart from making you look glossy, it is also very comfortable on the skin. Because it’s shiny, any color whether vibrant or dull will make you glow. To elevate your look even further, add minimalistic jewelry.
ROYAL BLUE Channel your Queen Charlotte energy and show up in a royal blue dress. If you’re going for a more elegant and astonishing look, a body-fitting mermaid dress with a slit is the perfect choice.
Your ears are not pierced? Worry not! Just make sure the neckline of your dress has crystals to brighten up your beautiful face and accentuate your look. Slide into a pair of silver shoes and voilà! You’re ready to go.
SEQUEEN Shine bright like a diamond all evening in a short sequin dress! This prom look is comfy for the dance floor and will make you look cool and elegant like a queen. Since the dress has a loud sparkle, a pair of earrings with smaller crystals would be perfect for this look.
Whatever you choose to wear, let it reflect who you are and what you are comfortable in - no one can tell you what to wear, as you need to wear what you want. Have fun at your prom and share your pics queens!

SAY BYE-BYE
TO BODY ODOURS Hey bestie! It’s time to say "adios" to those funky smells. Body odour happens when bacteria on your skin comes in contact with sweat. Fear not, bacteria on our skin is normal, we are naturally covered with bacteria. When we sweat though, the water, salt and fat mix with the bacteria and it can cause odour. So get ready to learn some fresh tips and tricks to keep you smelling great all day long.
1 BANISHING BODY ODOURS
Nobody likes to be known as the "stinky" kid, right? Well, fear not! We've got some awesome tricks up our sleeves to help you stay fresh as a daisy. Remember that body odour is caused by sweat mixing with bacteria on our skin. But don't worry, a good shower with soap and water can wash away those smelly bacteria. And don't forget to use deodorant or antiperspirant to keep those armpits smelling fantastic all day long, or try using natural remedies like baking soda or lemon juice to neutralize odours. Just apply a small amount to your underarms and let it work its magic!
2
THE POWER OF CLEAN CLOTHES
Did you know that the clothes we wear can also contribute to body odours? It's true! Wearing clean clothes made from breathable fabrics like cotton can help prevent those unpleasant smells. So make sure to toss those dirty socks and clothes into the laundry basket regularly and put on fresh, clean clothes every day. Your nose will thank you!
3 YOUR FEET DON'T FORGET
10
Feet can be a major source of odour, especially after a long day of running and practically being in shoes the whole day. Make sure to wash your feet thoroughly with soap and water, and don't forget to dry them completely, especially between your toes. Wearing clean socks and shoes made of breathable materials can also help keep your feet fresh.
5 4
PRACTICE GOOD HYGIENE ALL OVER
Remember to clean all the nooks and crannies of your body, including behind your ears, your belly button, and your private areas (don’t use soaps here though, just clean water will do the trick). These areas can harbour bacteria that contributes to body odour, so keeping them clean is essential.
HEALTHY HABITS FOR A FRESH YOU
Maintaining good hygiene goes beyond just washing up and wearing clean clothes. It's important to adopt healthy habits that keep you feeling and smelling fresh. Watch your diet bestie! Believe it or not, but what you eat can affect how you smell. Foods like garlic, onions, and spicy dishes can seep through your pores and cause body odour. Opt for a balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables to help keep your body smelling fresh. Drinking plenty of water helps flush out toxins from your body and don't forget to brush your teeth and floss regularly to keep your breath minty fresh!
6 Smoke-free Did you know that smoking not only smells bad, gives you bad breath as well as make your sweat smell hideous? Don’t get fooled by shisha and its ‘flavours’, it’s still tobacco. So, stay smoke-free, you'll be doing yourself and your body a huge favor. Besides as a SKY baddie you already know smoking is not our thing bane!
HERE ARE SOME NATURAL REMEDIES TO HELP KICK OUT BODY ODORS.
LEMON JUICE The citric acid in lemon juice helps kill odour causing bacteria. Apply it to your underarms and let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing off.
BAKING SODA This natural deodorant can help absorb moisture and neutralize odours. Mix it with water to create a paste and apply it to your underarms.
APPLE CIDER VINEGAR Its acidic properties can help balance the pH level of your skin and eliminate odour-causing bacteria. Dilute it with water and use it as a natural deodorant.
TEA TREE OIL Known for its antibacterial properties, tea tree oil can help fight odour-causing bacteria. Mix a few drops with water and apply it to your underarms.
Remember, everyone's body is different, so it's important to find what works best for you. Give these natural remedies a try and see which ones help you stay fresh and odour-free!
So there you have it, my adventurous sis!
Armed with these fresh tips and a commitment to a tobacco-free lifestyle, you're ready to conquer body odour and embrace a scent-sational journey. Remember, staying fresh is always in style.

Susy Thomas Dear older Susy, Before anything, I just wanted to remind you that you should be proud of yourself. You managed to achieve almost all your dreams at the age of 15! Gurl. Despite all the pressure, the stress, disappointments, losing friends, family issues, and your health issues you still managed to overcome all the obstacles that came your way, that's some super SHEro typa thing. Susy, even as you grow. Please remember to Stay True to Yourself, just like I do now. Because growing up, you’ll come across many temptations and people may peer pressure you into doing the wrong thing but with the values mommy instilled in you. I know for sure that you’ll resist and find your way out of it. Present Susy has been through it. A whole roller coaster. I hope future Susy remembers it all. Fainting at school and being carried by your best friend, losing your great aunt, losing friends because of how “Christian” you were, and also failing to balance everything that you do with school work. But also remember the good times. You passing your tests, getting closer to God, achieving all you wanted even if you weren’t strong or ready enough, being able to eat and drink water, meeting people you love and look up to and just loving yourself. All these things and more, but you’re still doing what you love. And that makes me happy. You’re making Mommy, Pappa, Chilufya and everyone around you super proud. You’re making ME proud. I hope you've become Miss Universe like you always wanted, and I hope you bought Mamma and Pappa the house I promised at 15! I hope you've stopped crying and panicking in the bathroom before a show and learnt to calm your nerves. I hope you got to travel to Paris and got to work with our favorite brand. I hope you’re now President, working with the United Nations too, ‘cause girl you really wanted to get in! I am putting in every work and effort for you to get there. I know you're living your best life because I have put in the work today. I have gone through all these trials for you to be who you are, who WE are, so I hope you're happy, in fact I know you've achieved it all and more because every day I have dreamed about what my life will become, who you will be and how every single tear, sweat and sleepless night has been worth it... Continue making a positive impact, continue loving, and continue striving for greatness. Don’t stop fighting. Keep on keeping on gurl! Remember YOU ARE DESTINED FOR GREATNESS!!!

Get Organized!
Hey SKY fam! It’s a new year, a new grade and a new you! Having confidence in the
Procrastination is NOT our thing. We’re no longer rushing to do the homework we forgot about. Draw up a study timetable and stick to it. Use a planner to keep track of all your important dates and deadlines, this will save space in your mind for all the things you actually have to remember. Try to do your assignments as soon as possible. If you do all of your difficult tasks first, the rest of your day will be a piece of cake.
classroom is super important because it helps us beat stress and achieve our goals. If you are looking to boost your self-esteem before school starts, this article is for you.
Don’t Compare
Yourself to other people
Participate
in Class
Comparison is the thief of joy sis. You are your only competition, and your journey is just as unique as you are! Everyone is the main character of their own story and what works for someone else might not work for you. Try to focus your energy on the things you can control. What is meant for you will come your way.
Answer questions and participate in class discussions. If you do not understand something, do not be afraid to ask your teacher or fellow classmate to clarify. When you have a group project, do your part. Ask your classmates if they need help with something you are good at, explaining things to your friends is a great way to bond and get some extra studying at the same time.
Know what you want, and what you don’t want
You know the famous saying, Be Yourself; everyone else is already taken? Yup. You have your own unique talents and qualities, these make you valuable. You don’t have to follow the crowd. In fact the more you stand for what you believe in, and say no to things that are not your thing, the more confident you become, and that attracts people to you. Be authentically you sis.
Set Goals
Setting clear goals gives you a better understanding of what you want to achieve and how to achieve it. You can set your goals using the SMART method. Your goals should be: Specific (what do I want to achieve?) Measurable (how will I keep track of my progress?) Achievable (Can I do this?) Relevant (why is achieving my goal important to me?) Time-bound (what is the deadline for my goal?)
By Precious Mubanga
Bring Love and Light Let’s face it: school drama is sooo overrated. It distracts you from your goals and ruins your friendships. Gossiping, spreading rumors and hanging out with negative people can leave you feeling stressed and insecure. Don’t encourage or participate in drama. It’s simply not worth it. Instead, treat other people the way you want to be treated. If you are feeling a little jealous, try and turn those feelings into motivation to do better. Walk into school ready to spread kindness and positivity. Bring the vibes, not the drama.
If you are staying out of drama and focusing on yourself and your goals, you are more than ready to walk into class with your new calculator and your killer confidence!

My name is Dorcas Chinyama. I'm 15 years old and I am in grade 10. I participated in the competition because I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and try something new. When I was told that I won the competition I was shocked because I wasn't expecting to win but I was also very excited about it. What I would tell other girls that want to participate is that they should just be confident and go for it because it could be them as a cover girl. My shoot experience was great, I had so much fun. Working with everyone and meeting new people was awesome. I loved getting my hair and makeup done, the whole experience was awesome.

show you how to take jaw-dropping pictures, with some dos and don'ts. These will definitely make your pictures look bombtastic and amazing. Here are some tips that you’ll definitely need to take:
1
THE OUTFIT! The outfit says it all march in that closet and grab the latest look. Dont know what to wear? Try and look for inspiration like the SKY magazine, Pinterest or your SKY Big Sistahs.
2 THE BACKGROUND
Having a background is the most important thing. Your outfit can help you pick a background.
Blue? Then the sky should have a say in the picture. Red and pink?Go for an area with flowers. Green?I’m sure you know what background can suit green.

3
THE TAKING PROCESS
Ask a friend to help you take your pictures. That can surely help you achieve a nice baddie look. If no one is there to help you , you can find a secure place to make sure your phone doesn’t move, start taking a video and pose At the end of the video you can screenshot the pose you liked.
4 LIGHTING
5ANGLES
Lighting is important, during the day you can get some good lighting from a flash or the sun outside, but make sure to lower the exposure just a little bit Dark places aren’t a good idea, especially at night. This tends to be a struggle
Find a good angle to take the picture Let's leave those 2016 angles in the past ladies!1/3 ground and 2/3 sky
6
CONFIDENCE IS KEY! Lastly, just take a breath. You are beautiful just the way you are, and just because a photo doesn’t capture it correctly doesn’t mean you are not beautiful. Sometimes it could be the angle or the lighting or all kinds of things that go into taking a cute photo.
I hope the tips make you feel confident the next time you have to take a photo because that always comes up in capturing memories, which is important.

People say that I'm ugly and it hurts a lot. I don’t know how to feel better. SKY Girl: Hey sis, don't let people's words change how you feel about yourself. Don't let their words define you. You are a queen and a boss, and nobody can take your crown. You are the essence of beauty. @NorahDaka SKY Girl: Remember not to worry, babe, Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, and us SKY Sisters are the beholders—keep shining! People's opinions about you are not important. What you think and say about yourself is one of the most important things. @Munjepah SKY Girl: Love yourself for who you are because you are beautiful just the way you are! @TasHeni
Hey SKY babes! You guys asked for advice and your SKY sisters with the help of our SKY big sistah definitely came through! We love seeing sisters supporting each other, as the SKY fam we’ve got you no matter what you are going through.
How can I strengthen a friendship I lost and have been given a second chance at it? SKY Girl: In the first place, apologise and then try to reconcile and Stay true to yourself coz every person wants a friend who is honest and truthful. @gift_.ndhlovu SKY Girl: Remember realizing your mistakes and apologising is a great step you took, second chances are given to those willing to accept them. To strengthen your friendship look back at the mistakes you made and be sure not to repeat them. Understand each other's feelings and emotions talk about your insecurities and how certain things affect you, don't get carried away. @ThelisaZipporah SKY Big Sistah: These are good answers, they recognise that rebuilding a friendship is a delicate process, but it is possible and a great opportunity for growth. Here are some steps to follow to BUILD the friendship: B - Bridge Gaps: Identify the gaps or issues that led to the strain in your friendship. Actively work to bridge these gaps through open and honest communication. U - Understand Each Other: Take the time to understand your friend's perspective and feelings. Empathy plays a crucial role in rebuilding trust and connection. I - Initiate Positive Actions: Initiate positive actions that demonstrate your commitment to rebuilding the friendship. Small gestures, such as reaching out or offering support, can go a long way. L - Listen Actively: Actively listen to your friend's thoughts and concerns. This step is vital for rebuilding trust and showing that you value their feelings. D - Develop Consistency: Consistency is key. Develop a pattern of reliable and positive behaviour. Consistent actions over time help rebuild trust and strengthen the foundation of the friendship.

SKY Big sistah: Dealing with hurtful comments about your appearance can be incredibly challenging and hurtful, especially during the teenage years when self-esteem is still developing. Your value is not determined by how others perceive your physical appearance. Remind yourself of your strengths, talents, and the qualities that make you unique. Create positive affirmations about yourself and repeat them daily. Affirmations can counteract negative thoughts and reinforce a positive self-image. Some affirmations you could use include: I am beautiful inside and out. I am confident in my own skin. I choose to see the good in myself. I am unique, and that is my superpower. Or you can create your own and repeat them regularly to reinforce positive thoughts and beliefs about yourself. Whatever you tell yourself, you are, so remind yourself daily of how beautiful you are!
Hey sis what can I do? I feel like I am not doing anything productive. SKY Girl: Hey girl! Yes we all feel like that sometimes but it takes time for us to discover our talents and what each one of us are good at. Sometimes we just need some time to unwind we can't always be doing something but we also can't do nothing, so write down a list of things you want to complete that day, maybe cook dinner or lunch for your family, maybe do some laundry, read a book, clean your room, fold your clothes or workout. @Salma SKY Girl: Hey sis! Find a hobby you might enjoy and fill your day with some of the tasks but also some challenging ones and always remember to write them down so that you feel more compelled to do them. @Alicesiame SKY Big Sistah: Create a to-do list. Large tasks can feel overwhelming. Break them down into smaller, more manageable steps. This makes it easier to start and provides a sense of accomplishment as you complete each step. Pick a small task and complete it. This can create positive momentum and make it easier to tackle more significant tasks. Identify and minimize distractions, such as turning off notifications on your phone or finding a quiet workspace. This can improve focus and productivity. Finally, celebrate small achievements along the way. This positive reinforcement can boost your motivation. Besties growing up isn’t easy. There’s so many things that we go through but sometimes we have no one to talk to or no one we can trust. But that’s why it’s nice to be part of a community. You guys asked for advice and your fellow SKY babes gave it with the help of our SKY Big Sistah! They helped you out, and we love to see it!
