Monochrome Barbie
We are obsessed with the Barbie and we can’t get over the diversity displayed. "Monochrome" refers to a style or image that consists of varying shades of a single color or tones of a single color, only one dominant color is used, but has different shades, tints, and tones. So whatever your favourite color maybe you too can be a monochrome barb!
Our girl is rocking a one side purple top with purple checked pants and a purple bag. This look is perfect for a themed color picnic and yes we aren’t over the trend.
Old Money
The timeless and elegant old money fashion trend revolves around simplicity and understated sophistication. To achieve this look, there are three key elements to keep in mind:
Color Palette: Embrace muted and elegant colors such as white, beige, and black, but feel free to add a tasteful pop of color as well.
No Logos: Let go of the need to showcase brand logos; instead, focus on the quality of fabrics and the comfort they provide.
Classic Silhouettes: Opt for classic silhouettes like wool and cashmere sweaters, tailored shirts, and flattering skirts that show timeless charm and grace.

As we all know-Beauty is being comfortable in your own skin. Although at times, it gets hard to embrace the undeniable fact that real skin has pores, blemishes and is in fact never perfect. But babes, the goal is to have healthy and not perfect skin.
Sadly we let these occasional and temporary blemishes, such as acne, affect our self-esteem and how we feel about ourselves and even increase the risk of depression, anxiety, and social isolation.
Don't forget bae, your skin is yours and only you can decide to let it affect you or not, no matter what anyone says. Butttttt if you want to know how to keep your skin healthy and clean here is some advice from DERMA OBSESSIONS Skin and aesthetics studio on what you need to know about acne.
ACNE, A K A PIMPLES is a common skin condition formed when the pores of your skin clog with hair follicles, sebum (oil), and dead skin cells, causing inflammation that results in pimples.
ACNE DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE NOT CLEANING YOUR FACE ENOUGH. yep, having acne doesn’t mean you don’t clean your face. It is normal to have.acne even when you’re taking good care of your skin. Acne is caused by factors such as bacteria, hormonal changes, diet, and several other factors.Remember, never feel bad about something that's natural.
ADOLESCENTS AND YOUNG ADULTS ARE MOST PRONE TO ACNE. Having acne comes with age, think of it as a sign that you're growing up. It's usually between the age range of 12-24 years. This is because the influence of adolescent hormones causes the glands to increase their production of sebum.
SCIENTIFICALLY, NO ONE REALLY KNOWS HOW LONG ACNE MAY LAST IN EACH PERSON
Regardless it can still be treated and controlled, so you may need to learn to live with it. Be good to your skin!!! don’t get unnecessarily frustrated because of it after all, you’ll wear it daily for the rest of your life.
1 2
3 4 10
IT IS IMPORTANT TO IDENTIFY WHAT TYPE OF ACNE YOU HAVE
Don’t just treat your skin with any oil, creams or face masks you come across, even if it worked on someone else. Get to know your skin and find out what type of acne you do have to treat it properly. There are many different types of acne which require different treatments. To know what type of acne you have, it’s best to see a Dermatologist (Dr that specialises in treating skin conditions).
FOLLOW THE THREE BASIC STEPS FOR ANY SKIN CARE ROUTINE Honey! have a skin care routine regardless. (cleanse, moisturise, and protect). Most skincare routines effective at treating acne focus on elliminating bacteria and controlling oil production. Make sure you clean your face, moisturise every day, and apply sunscreen every single day. yep, everyday. You know what they say SPF (Sun Protection Factor) is your BFF……Well that's what they should be saying at least.
TIPS ON HOW YOU COULD SUPPORT A FRIEND WH O ’S STRUGGLING WITH T HEIR ACNE:
Do not comment about their skin unless they ask you for advice. They are already familiar with how their skin may look, and the last thing they need is someone pointing it out.
Avoid making recommendations about products they could use. Most of the time, people struggling with acne have already tried so many products. Everyone's skin is different, so what worked for you may not work for the next person. so if they don't ask, please don’t bring it up.
Be a good listener. When someone is going through a challenge in life, all they need is someone to talk to. Let your friend speak to you about their problems when they need to. It may be a good idea to vent their stress and frustrations, again remember it’s not about you.
AND IF YOU ARE A TEEN GIRL GOING THROUGH ACNE:
Be consistent with your skin care routine and be patient. Avoid regularly touching your skin.
Don’t stress and start asking literally everybody for advice. Ignore the myths and misunderstandings people hold about acne. They usually come from a place of ignorance.
If possible see a dermatologist for advice on how best to care for your skin.
Too much sugar, smoking and drinking alcohol can make acne worse.
And most importantly, love yourself just the way you are, embrace your acne, and be good to your skin. Remember you’ll wear it every day for the rest of your life.

Mwaka Halwindi
Dear 14-year-old Mwaka
Buckle up, sweetheart. It will all make sense later. I know right now you’re confused with life. Everything seems to be cruising; you're just 14 years old, the youngest in your class and among your friends. I know you've always wanted to grow up, have a good career and build that dream home for Mom, but please don’t beat yourself down. You’ll never be this young again; look around you, explore, and live your life. I know there's so much pressure and you only have a year left to complete high school, and everyone is talking about what they will do after they complete. You on the other hand are yet to figure that out. One thing was always certain was that you knew exactly what it would feel like once you figured it out; you stayed on that same gut feeling! Now look at how we turned out.
Many times, you asked the “Why” question. Why am I not tall? Why am I so thin? Why can't I afford this, or Why am I alive? What's my purpose? You will discover that there's nothing in this world that's yours besides yourself; you don't have to look elsewhere and compare. Everybody is born to be different, and that's the one thing that makes us the same! You will learn this with time, and it stays with us forever!
Everything is always ok.
Yes, yes, I know, it's all a "mess" right now; you're getting through school, peer pressure, family, and friends. Anxiety and overthinking is making you forget the beauty of life. Everything is worrying you; you want it to be perfect. It's only a matter of time; take it easy on yourself; everything around you right now is meant for you, good and bad they all mold you into becoming stronger and greater; keep learning from every circumstance; your walk in life must be with ease and caution! You're yet to blossom; I want you to pat yourself on your back and say, everything will be fine.
Lastly, “BE YOU!” Stop trying to please everyone!
I know they talk behind your back, saying your hair is too kinky and short; they want you to fall under their pressure and involve yourself in stuff that will slow your process or hinder your schooling. Learn to be content! Do not be ashamed of yourself and try to impress people; you'll realize it doesn't pay off; rather, it makes you so sad on the inside because you forget to pay attention to yourself by trying to be a perception of who the world wants you to be.
You’re amazing, smart, and creative; start knowing yourself better, see what you can improve on, and be enough for yourself first. You’re just 14! Time is your superpower; you have a long way to go until you catch up to me, your future self! Make those mistakes, fall to the ground, and get dirty, but remember to pick yourself up! And keep your head high!
The world awaits “you”.
The words you always want to hear right now are "I'm proud of you.“ We got them, and we actually get them every day! In fact, I'll say to you, “I’m proud of you, Mwaka“ I won't tell you what we are now and what we do, but I will tell you how we got here; it was all You! You did this for us!
With lots of love and excitement for you!
Future you.
I wish I was there to whisper these words in your ear, “YOU ARE ENOUGH!” or hug you when you cried alone in the dark.

Tabsthe Anim a tor
Meet our lovely artist
Tabs the Animator
She is one of the creators of the first Zambian anime In this article we ll get to know more about her and her journey through her career
One thing Tabs loves about animating is that she gets to express herself with her work! it's not just pictures that she's drawing, she gets to see her creations come to life. She gets to hear their voices, see their movements, their expressions and so on. When she first went into animation, there was no animation industry in Zambia that created the things she was interested in, so as the young creative she is, she decided to create her own.
She would occasionally do a few projects for which she would earn about four thousand kwacha per project, like designing album covers for artists such as Natasha Chansa. She then decided to collaborate with someone and together they decided to create an anime based on a comic Tabs wrote when she was in her fourth grade. This comic was based off Dragonball Z, but as they developed it over the years, it formed its own story. Creating the anime was not easy, Tabs had to use all the money that she had saved up at the beginning of the year, and that was not more than four thousand kwacha. There were only the two of them working on this project which they refer to as a "passion project", and a project such as this one requires at least ten people. They worked on it for six months and in the end, it was a success!
Zambia now has its very own anime. She now has a lot more projects, equipment and people on her team. She gets clients from different countries, including NGOs and government facilities. She and her team are now working on a mini-series called Prism which we can't wait to watch!
"We are living in the manifestation of the industry," she says. The world is seeing African animation. “Even the industry right now is more of a new African generation animation industry”. It's a collaboration between many African studios, artists, creatives etc." She encourages girls who aspire to be animators to go for it! The industry has room for a lot more people. There's a huge variety of different animation sectors to be in.
Tabs is currently into TV animation, but she further adds that animation also has a commercial side which is more tailored to making ads, billboards etc. Becoming an animator may not require you to have qualifications. You may just know how to draw, design characters or storyboards or maybe even make music, but you can still be part of the animation sector because it's a collective of industries put together.
Violence, Impwa, The heat
Tabs started off as a child who loved to draw and make comics. She lived in South Africa but once she did her matric (grade 12) she moved to Zambia. She didn’t start school just yet, instead she became a freelance visual artist. She eventually got her first job as a digital artist for Upfront Media, and that's when she transitioned to going into film where she would be on set more. Tabs originally wanted to direct CGI films, but then she looked at her interests and she loved drawing and creating comics, so she went into animation.
So in terms of skills, it really does depend on what you're good at and whether or not you want to join this broad spectrum. Just like any other jobs there are some things you need to be able to do. You need to be able to brand yourself properly and adapt to change. Always invest in the tools that could help you improve yourself and your art. You need to make sure that you're open to learning, and working with other people. You need to get rid of the "I know it all" attitude. That will do more bad than good. Looking at the world we live in, you really need to take advantage of the fact that you can easily access things these days. The internet has made the world a lot smaller and accessible.
Tabs would like the girls to know that the SKY is the limit!

Dr Sh alala
What is a Neonatologist
Well sis this is a medical personnel who provides medical care to newborn babies and mothers with high risk pregnancies Our lovely doctor over here is a neonatolo gist fellow and we ll get to know more about her and her line of work
Dr Shalala did a bachelor's degree in natural science at University of Zambia for four years. After completion of her bachelors degree, she didn't feel fulfilled because that was not what she wanted to do. She then began applying to more Universities and CBU accepted her into the school of medicine and this is where she completed her medical and surgery degree. She then went to do her postgraduate diploma at Zambia College of Medicine and Surgery.
To become a fellow, she had to apply for it. The minimum requirements for application is a completion of an internship at a teaching hospital, then you are eligible for a master’s or a specialist training programme. After all this she got accepted and did the full one year programme. And that's when she became a neonatologist fellow. She has been working officially for four years now.
Dr Shalala works with the smallest and the youngest patients that you'll ever find in the medical field. If you haven’t figured it out yet, yes! We're talking about babies.
Dr Shalala says “there is nothing more rewarding than being of service to somebody in need”, that's the main thing she loves about her job, and the main thing she looks forward to. Dr Shalala loves working as a neonatologist, she says it's her best career decision. She loves interacting with staff and patients. Seeing the progress of her patients gives her a sense of fulfillment. “It might be hard sometimes because you might go to work at awkward hours, while the whole world is asleep. But at the end of the day, it's for the greater good”. She wouldn't do
Professor Kapulu
Professor Kapulu is a research scientist who is combating poverty by helping tackle diseases such as malaria In this article you ll get to know how she got to where she is and how you can do the same
In simple terms a research scientist is someone who asks a lot of questions about medical research. She is mainly interested in understanding how the body fights diseases through the immune system, and in developing vaccines. She also does testing to see if the things she is developing are actually working. She is interested in specific malaria-like diseases. She works on a specific pathogen that causes diarrhea in children and adults. Professor Kapulu manages a team of over twenty people who are PhD students. She refers to them as her family because her job does not feel like work - it is something she loves to do.
anything differently because she has no regrets with her decisions. Everything happens the way it's supposed to happen. She is a very emotional person, which can be a weakness but she uses it as a strength as well because it makes her empathetic to the patients and her patients' families.
You're able to understand what they're going through, and see how best to help them. Her ultimate goal is to see more people specialise in her field. A lot more could be done and a lot more babies and mothers could be helped if there were more people.
Our doctor here believes that it is important to be your own motivation, to be your biggest cheerleader. There's no amount of books you can read, stories you can read that can change your mindset. Only you can make the decision to change your mindset. Remaining focused on what you really want to do is important as well. Set your eyes on it, give it all you've got, and eventually you will succeed. “The greatest discovery of all time is that a person can change their future by changing their attitude" is one of Dr Shalala's favourite quotes. Dr Shalala encourages sky girls to join her in her field of work, but keep in mind that it's not the easiest job, it's a very competitive job especially being a female. But she believes in you all and knows that you can do it if you want to and if you put your mind to it.
She wants her work to help improve humanity; the less people are sick, the less money they spend which could then lead to the end of poverty.
Professor Kapulu got to where she is by working hard. She studied medicine at the University of Zambia, but she didn't get into medical school. When she got into her fourth year, She had a research paper she needed to write. She chose to write on vaccines, and that's what changed everything for her. She then changed her course to molecular biology genetics, because she was interested in genetics and how they deal with diseases. When she finished her course, she then went on to do a Master’s Degree in immunology of infectious diseases at the London School of Hygiene. After that, she went to Oxford on a scholarship for her PhD where she worked in a research lab that was actually developing vaccines. She now works in Kenya and has been working there for the last ten years.
Professor Kapulu encourages SKY girls to work hard to achieve what they want. She wants you to know that nothing comes to a lazy person. You have to be motivated, you have to be passionate about it. She says that there are days where she doesn't want to get out of bed, but if you're really passionate about something then you'll get the inner drive that will get you out of bed. She also mentioned how people work better when they are not working alone. Find your people and build each other up, the right group of team mates can make you go a long way and help you succeed.

Chileshe Kaluba M la
Crocheter
MY thing
Crocheting, Reading, Doing art
MY thing
Singing, Sweet popcorn, Loud noises
Chileshe is a young, creative entrepreneur who started her business at the end of September 2022. Her business consisted of crocheting items such as crunchies, cropped sweaters, pencil cases, etc. As her talent developed, she began to advertise her products more, causing her to make a fair amount of money. "I saw many people on TikTok and other social media platforms crotcheting, and many made money through it. I knew people would like to buy stuff like that. I decided to give it a go." She knew she had the talent and the skill, but still a few things were challenging to her: balancing school with her business, having to suffer the pain of making something for a client, changing their mind after hearing the cost, and so on.
This was incredibly annoying to her because of the time wasted, but this did not stop her. She still managed to find solutions to those problems by planning out her days and letting people pay for the items before she could make them and so on. " After getting your first profit, you get to see your growth, and this encourages you to keep going and improving your business," she says she learned how to spend her earnings accordingly and not carelessly, She splits her money into two categories, separating some cash for emergencies such as running out of supplies and some for leisure. "sometimes I don't always feel comfortable with the outcome, and this is why I always take time and advertise things I'm sure of. I remember the first time my mom bought me yarn for my first project; she even helped me advertise them, which is why she inspired me. My uncle kept encouraging me even when things weren't okay so did my friends Waldecia and Nicola Maria Tembo.
They gave me my first hook and kept motivating me to sell my work. "No matter what people say, just keep persevering. Have a goal at it. You never really know until you try, even if you think no people are noticing you, keep going. Thank you, SKY Girls, for the opportunity to talk to many girls through your magazine; I'm sure many young girls have been inspired by this.”

Chishiba Kasonde Hair dresser Mutinta
MY thing
Dancing, Hanging out in places of nature, Eating.
MY thing
Drinking, Smoking, Clubbing
Mutinta is a creative hair stylist who started her hair braiding journey at a very young age. She says she would braid her hair a lot even though it wouldn't look the best. No matter how it turned out, her parents would still hyper up and encourage her to keep going. She would joke with them and say, "I want to own a salon," not knowing that those words would turn into serious business, earning her a good amount of money. It all started in university with her braiding herself.
People would notice this and admire her talent. From there, people began to call and ask her to do their hair for them. She was surprised by this and knew she had the talent, so she decided to give it a go. "I'm studying architecture at the Copper Belt University (CBU), and balancing my studies with clients was challenging”. Money was also tricky for her as she ventured into wig making, and buying supplies became different for her; despite this, she didn't want to disappoint her clients, so even though she had busy days and exams, she just decided to postpone her sessions with her clients and not let them go. She borrows money from friends if she gets stuck with her wig-making supplies. Mutinta explains that there is a difference between owning and growing a business.
She wants to please her clients; therefore, she sometimes chooses all means to attend to them no matter what. My brother is one of the people who made me believe that once you do it right, you can achieve the best. Even though we are not in the same line of work, he has still taught me a lot and given me great advice:" If you'd like to start a business, go for it, try different things, and you eventually find what suits you. Mutinta used to sell other stuff before this business. Items such as perfumes, clothes, and so on. Most importantly, do what makes you happy, keep trying to find different strategies, and ask for advice from experienced people.
Fashion Influencer
MY thing
Fashion, Math, Dancing
MY thing
Smoking, Crowded places, Backstabbers
Chishiba is in the fashion industry and sells both brand new and Thrifted clothing. She is naturally fashionable, so people would ask her where she gets her clothes and what not. It took a lot of work to explain that she gets them from different stores, and her closet was a mix of thrift and brand-new clothing. Seeing how people loved her fashion sense, she put together the thought of working for herself and doing what she loves together, from interacting with her clients to calculating her orders, especially since she loves math, she says this would be a perfect job for her.
Although initially she faced challenges, such as raising funds and maintenance issues, she still enjoyed her career. “Putting a smile on my client's faces was the most exciting part of being an entrepreneur.” Chishiba says it is better to live below standards. Sometimes, seasons change so that you can make more money and invest in more businesses, but knowing the goal really helps you get through adversity.
Time management and prioritizing is very important in entrepreneurship. She tells us that she doesn't spend time partying but focuses on the important things. To girls out there who would like to venture into entrepreneurship, Chishiba encourages us to recognize what we want to do and what we are good at and that business is not only about selling goods and services but contributing to the world and giving it what it needs.
Thank you, SKY Girls, for helping me reach out to girls through your magazine. It is truly a pleasure to support such a large number of girls.

Hey SKY Sisters Are you stressed about your exams
Are you losing sleep over your incomplete assignments We feel you sis Studying can be difficult especially when you need to know your learning style
Don’t worry we ve got you covered Here is a comprehensive guide to scoring an easy A your way
Visual Learners
Keep your eye on the prize! Visual learners learn with their eyes. They pay extra attention to details like color and shape. They are often into art or photography. If you are a visual learner, make use of pictures and diagrams while you are studying. Use lots of highlighters, glitter pens, and sticky notes. Try making your own charts and graphs to help you understand the information better, and be bold and add quick sketches to your notes.
Audio Learners
Listen up, SKY babes! Audio learners use their ears to retain information. They have excellent hearing and always remember who said what. They often love singing and listening to music. If this is your learning style, get creative! Try making up songs and poems to help you remember what you study. Make sure you read out loud to yourself, participate in class discussions and tell a friend about what you have learned.
Reading/Writing Learners
Reading and writing learners learn best through reading new information. They love to read books in their free time and take lots of notes in class. They would rather write essays than give speeches and need help understanding diagrams. If this is your learning style, rewrite your notes in your own words and read articles online about the topic.
Kinesthetic Learners
Be there or be square! Kinesthetic learners learn through hands-on experience. They are often skilled athletes or musicians and love projects and experiments. You are probably a kinesthetic learner if you are super curious and not afraid to get your hands dirty. Use flashcards and try making a game out of your study session. Take frequent breaks and move around often.

Hey SKYFam!
My name is Metland Ntenga, l’m 14 years old, and I go to Our Lady Of Assumption Convent School; these are my tips on how to get good grades.
Adopt a positive mental attitude
In the face of lower-than-expected grades, it's only human to react by feeling disappointed with yourself. When you are frequently receiving lower grades than you'd hoped for, you may feel downgraded, depressed, or defeated and end up giving up. The first process of improving your grades Is to turn the negativity on its head; you need to be positive about the situation if you are to stand a chance of improving it. Acknowledge that your grades aren't what you're aiming for, but believe that you can do something about it.
Pay attention in class
If you're one person that daydreams in class, it's time to start focusing on the here and now. Listen to the teacher's words rather than talking with friends or letting your mind wander. Only copy what's on the board after thinking through it. It's good to ask where you don't understand rather than getting nothing. Make sure you understand. And if you’re attentive most of the time you’ll get a hint on what questions your teacher is putting in exams.
Actively participate in class
Everybody knows it's easier to pay attention to something if you're active and involved, particularly in a classroom; passively listening often makes it harder to remember what was said because you weren't actively participating. Of course, your ability to participate depends somewhat on your teacher, the class, and your own personality. Whether it's answering a question, asking a question, participating actively in group work, or otherwise being involved in the classroom, class participation is a great way to master the material and show your teacher that you are trying hard.
Do your homework
To get better grades, DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Leaving assignments unfinished or waiting until right before the tests to do them isn't healthy for a student; that might have worked in middle school, but it's unlikely to work in high school. Teachers prepare us for this shift by encouraging us to maintain and expand our knowledge through homework, by participating in class.
Fattening the cow in a week before exams won’t work But when you adopt these little study habits consistently it'll make your life less stressful when exam week is coming up. It will all be worth it in the long run.

Unleashing Your Creative Spark: Embracing Creativity in Everyday Life
We often think of creativity as something only for artists musicians or writers But the truth is creativity is an essential part of being human It s the spark that ignites our imagination and allows us to approach life s challenges with fresh perspectives I’m going to show you how with these steps

Embracing the Creative Process:
ThinkingtheOutsideBox: 1 3
Creativity as Problem-Solving Magic
Imagine you're in a maze, desperately searching for the exit. You try the same path repeatedly, feeling frustrated and stuck. Now, picture yourself stepping back, taking a deep breath, and letting your creativity take the lead. Suddenly, you see a hidden passage, a unique solution that nobody else could have thought of. That's the power of creativity in problem-solving.
Creativity encourages us to break free from conventional thinking and explore uncharted territories. It prompts us to challenge the status quo and discover innovative solutions. So, when faced with a problem, whether it's a school project, a friendship issue, or a personal dilemma, embrace your creativity.
Let your imagination roam free and dare to think outside the box. You'll be amazed at the inventive ideas that emerge.
Think of creativity as a wildflower. It needs nurturing and care to bloom fully. Similarly, your creative potential requires attention and cultivation. Engaging in creative activities can unleash your imagination and enrich your everyday life.
Try different forms of expression, such as painting, writing, dancing, or playing a musical instrument. Allow yourself to experiment and make mistakes. Remember, creativity is not about achieving perfection; it's about embracing the joy of self-expression. You'll discover new dimensions of yourself and develop a deeper understanding of your passions and talents.
Finding Inspiration in Everyday Life:
Creativity isn't limited to grand gestures or extraordinary events; it can be found in the simplest of moments. Think of it as a treasure hunt, where inspiration hides in everyday experiences waiting to be uncovered. Whether it's the vibrant colours of a sunset, the rhythm of raindrops on your window, or the laughter shared with friends, these moments hold the key to unlocking your creative spirit. Pay attention to the details and immerse yourself in the present. Notice the world around you—the sights, sounds, smells, and textures. Allow these sensations to inspire you. Carry a small notebook or use your phone to capture ideas and observations whenever inspiration strikes. These little sparks of creativity can grow into something extraordinary.

So, my dear SKY girl, let your creativity soar.
Embrace the wonders of the creative process, cherish the beauty of everyday life, and unleash your unique voice upon the world. Trust in your creative abilities and believe in the magic that lies within you. The world is waiting for your extraordinary contributions.

The Beauty of Small Moments
SKY Stories
Hey SKY Girls In every issue we like to share stories of triumphs or challenges that us girls go through in our everyday lives Here’s a story by our SKY girl Mumbe
This is about my mental health journey.
My name is Mumbe Mbewe. When I was in Grade 7, I used to get bullied and judged over my body, face, and walk. I was told that I had too many pimples, I was too fat, I had lumps, no one would ever really love me because I was ugly and that I wouldn't go anywhere if I continued looking like that. Those words impacted me in many ways. They greatly impacted my school grades and how I used to communicate with people.
They also led to me having suicidal thoughts.
By Grade 9, I couldn’t take it anymore. I had a close friend whom I always told things to, so I told her how I felt because these thoughts were really getting to me and how I was thinking about ending my life. She told me she was going to tell my mom, and she did.
My mom was so sad and disappointed in me that I could ever think of leaving her. She then asked me if I needed a therapist, and said that my grandma wanted to talk to me.
My grandma told me, “in this world, people will always talk, even when they have nothing to say”, and that I shouldn't mind them. So I told myself that what she was saying was true. After that, I spoke with my grandmother whenever I felt bullied or down. Those talks made me feel better, stronger, more confident in myself, and I continued having those talks with her until I recovered.
I realised that other girls go through the same thing and I should try to spread the word about how beautiful they are, and deserving to be happy. This inspired my passion for mental health.
I am currently a mental health advocate. I can proudly say that I overcame mental health anguish and to my fellow SKY girls out there: love yourself, and don’t let anyone pull you down - you are worthy and deserving of all good things. And if you do struggle, there is someone in your corner who loves you, who you can talk to.
A problem shared, is a problem half solved, so don’t feel shy to speak up about anything you’re going through. If you’d like to share your own true life story with us about overcoming your difficult situations, or being proud of who you are, please share with us on Facebook, or drop it off at our SKY Hub at Arcades shopping mall.

SKY Advice
Hi SKY I have trouble talking to my parents whenever it ’ s about something important They make me feel like I ’ m not allowed to express myself please help
It can be tough when you feel like you're not being heard by your parents. Remember that open communication is key to building understanding and trust. Try finding the right time to talk when everyone is calm and focused. Practise expressing yourself clearly and respectfully, using "I" statements to share your thoughts and feelings. Consider writing down your thoughts beforehand to help you organize them. Sometimes, parents just need time to adjust to new ideas, so be patient. Keep trying and remember that your voice matters.
Hi SKY how do I get over the pain of losing someone I loved
Losing someone we loved is incredibly painful, and healing takes time. It's important to give yourself permission to grieve and feel all the emotions that come with loss. Surround yourself with a support system of friends and family who can listen and offer comfort. Engage in self-care activities that bring you peace and solace, such as journaling, exercising, or spending time in nature. Remember that healing is a gradual process, and it's okay to take small steps forward. Cherish the memories of your loved one and find healthy ways to honour their legacy. Time will help ease the pain, and you'll find the strength to move forward while keeping their memory alive. Remember, you're never alone in your experiences, and seeking support from loved ones or professionals can be incredibly helpful. Stay strong, stay resilient, and know that you have the power within you to overcome any challenge that comes your way.
Hey SKY I ’ ve been talking to this guy for a year now and he says he loves me but we aren ’ t dating yet what should I do
When it comes to relationships, communication is vital. If you've been talking to this guy for a year and he says he loves you, it's important to have an open and honest conversation about your expectations. Share your feelings and ask him about his intentions. Clear communication can help both of you understand where you stand and what you want. Remember, you deserve to be with someone who wants to commit and prioritise your happiness. Trust your instincts and have the courage to communicate your needs and boundaries.
Hey SKY how do I stay safe when it comes to online dating
Talking online can be a fun way to meet new people, but safety should always be a priority. If you want to date online, ensure you use reputable dating apps or websites that prioritize user safety. Never share personal information like your address or phone number right away. Take your time getting to know someone and trust your instincts. If something feels off or uncomfortable, don't hesitate to end the conversation or block the person. When meeting someone in person, choose a public place and let a friend or family member know your plans. Stay cautious and remember that your safety is paramount.
