What e are eeling
The Trendometer 1.With summer time being upon us,
we al need something coolto drink
and this month e are definitely eeling diferent drinks, these are good during a hang out ith riends or just on a hot day at a mal. Firstly, e have ando’s designer drinks. These come in 3 diferent lavours; TropicalSunset, Blueberry izz and Ginger. The second drinkwe are eeling is ice cold Fanta, Fanta has alays been a avourite, some things never change. The third is a good old ashioned pineapple juice rom Cremosa, refreshing and bursting ith favour. Lastly, the very berry crusher rom KFC, these are bomb and have you ever tried dipping your ries in them? Amazing. 2.Twitter, this app is very insightfuland un. It is a iteral mixofgood aughs and real-life matters. It teaches us something newevery day. It’s a hole mood and is very open to al inds of people.
summer time is definitely a vibe, e al need some sun sometimes. Alows us to have some picnics, go swimming and ear sun hats and shorts.
6.Cremosa shawarmas,
these are amazing and definitely complement the eather.
7.Our change in government,
the youths tookpart in the voting process a couple months ago and it’s been so amazing to see the change in government.
It eels ike a breath of fresh air.
OUR THING
3.Netfix, al our avourite shows
came backand e are oving it. etfix has been adding more movies to their list hich makes you spoilt or choice. An amazing eature on etfixis how you can create your own ist, a ist of movies and tv shows that you ike and also some upcoming shows, making sure you don’t miss a thing!
4.Romans izza, Chicken Mayo Feta lavour, on a thickbase.
Romans pizza has caught al ofus by surprise because e didn’t expect it to be this yummy. This lavour is so rich and consistent. The eta and chicken blend so el together and you can enjoy this pizza any time ofthe day! 6
5.Feeling the summer, despite al its cons,
8.Summer clothes, cute shorts, crochet crop tops, sandles and a sun hat. A totalsummer outfit. These alowyou to have un in the sun ithout stressing.
9.The concerts and festivals, being outside is so much un and this summer a ot of fun events are ined up like the colour estival. 10.West African Music, they eep coming ith banger after banger and we ove it, definitely feeling “Feeling” by LADIPOE cause it’s such a eel-good song.
What e are not eeling 1.DSTV, there are very ewthings to atch and hen e do have some good shows, the episodes are repeated. The newshows are not as good as the old ones.
2.We are not eeling the heat! It did not come to play. It gets realy hot and this could be bad or our skin, and also bad or the eyes or people ho ear specs. 3.The newiCarly, it as so good before and maybe they should’ve et it end or the sake ofour memories but nowit eels of ithout one ofour av character Sam.
NOTOUR
4.Not eeling ike going to school,
after a ong period ofbeing home and learning rom home, adjusting to the normal life ofbeing backat schoolphysicaly.
5.Skinny jeans are not as coolas they used to be. 6.Chunky Sneakers, it’s too hot
for this, no one should ear socks and chunky sneakers please, just opt for some casualslippers or sandals.
7.The Kissing Booth 3, Honestly eellike e should have ended it at two cause the ast part was very dragged, the plot as not clear and or necessary. They should et Gold be GOLD and not ruin it or people.
THING
8.Heavy Make-up,
this could be draining to ear, especialy in the heat. A naturallookwith a ittle foundation and some ip-gloss is totaly cute and refreshing.
9.Lipstick, e are more into
lip-gloss, FBI ip-gloss to be specific. Lipstickis easy to mess up and it on’t alays go ith what you’re earing.
10.Food delivery systems,
waiting 2 hours or your take out order is not cool, it takes so ong to have ood delivered I thinkwe need a couple newand fresh delivery companies. 7
Being a teenager is hard.
We’re learning, we’re growing, and we’re still working out who we are. At the same time, our friends, family, schoolmates, and the media are pulling us in all directions!
At SKY Girls e say e are ‘true to ourselves’.
But what does it mean to stay true to ourselves if we haven’t yet decided exactly who we are? Well, it means we have started to define our choices. We define what we’re all about, and what our values are (Our Things!) and we also define what we reject, and what we want to live without (Not Our Things!) Girls and young women who know what they want and what they don’t want in life go further and become more successful.
So thinkabout it – hat makes you, YOU?
What choices do you want to say YES to, and what choices do you want to say NO to?
8
Wel, to choose Your Thing, one tip is to thinkabout hen you are happiest!
Is it when you get good grades? Maybe your thing is education! Or is it when you are hanging out with your siblings? Maybe your thing is family!
A good tip to choose what’s Not Your Thing, is to think about how you would feel after doing that thing. If you would feel disappointed in yourself – and like you had let yourself down, then that’s Not Your Thing! For example, maybe you want to avoid unnecessary drama – then gossiping and backstabbing is Not Your Thing!
Many SKY Girls are saying they never ant to smoke – so smoking is ot Their Thing!
If you need some more inspiration to think of what your Thing and Not Your Thing is, we have collected SKY Pledges from over 25,000 Zambian teenage girls just like you! When a girl takes the SKY pledge, she lists 3 things she has chosen as Her Thing, and 3 things she has chosen as Not Her Thing.
Here are the top 10 most popular answers!

HOW TO SHOW UP IN A ‘TOP TIER’ SUMMER INDEPENDENCE DAY FIT
By Natasha Malama
Preppy
For a preppy look, you could do chitenge pants, a cute short or long sleeved top depending on how the weather’s got you feeling, and sandals. A little short-sleeved dress with a sort of flared ending would also suffice.
Summer is around the corner many of us may want to show up in our best and so is Independence Day! On account of this, Independence Day fit. We’re here to give you a few ideas of cute designs, inspired by the Zambian flag colors and with ‘summer vibes’ written all over them.
Street Style “Drip or Drown!” For that street style vibe, go denim with a pretty sleeveless top and sandals.
10
Afropunk Whatever the occasion, the chitenge dungaree style will allow you to brag about it. Yes! You read that correctly, because the elegance and comfort that the dungarees fashion brings is unrivaled. Overall paired with sunglasses, hoops, and either sneakers or sandals complete the look!
Baddie Whether you're looking for a brunch outfit or just want to make a statement, dresses with puff sleeves and feminine details are the way to go. Alternatively, this astounding design of the dress would give you an elegant look.
Now you’re more than ready to look exquisite for Independence Day!!

Summer As much as we love to have fun in the sun during summer, we also have to be smart about how we do it. If you’re sweating non-stop, that’s a sure way to make you dehydrated really fast. Constantly having the sun beaming on you is not good for you or your skin. If you’re like me and love feeling the sunshine on your melanin, make sure to switch it up by going into a shady area every once in a while and drink plenty of water, or at the very least, something with a lot of ice to keep you cool.
12
SkincareTips SPF: our BFF
Sunscreen is the best product out there to help you maintain nice skin that will remain plump for years. It protects your skin from the sun and drying out. Not to mention that it helps prevent skin damage, but only if you use it correctly. Make sure to get SPF30 or more with a good amount that is applied evenly across the skin, and reapply about every 2 hours.
Get hydrated
If your skin becomes oily, it may be a sign that your skin could be dehydrated. Your body will step up the production of sebum, an oily substance, to protect itself from drying out. This in turn clogs your pores, and you don’t want that happening. It might be a great idea to up your moisturiser use in your existing skincare routine. But be careful here, make sure it’s a light cream or gel.
Twinkly toes
Because we have our cute feet out this summer, be sure to moisturise them too. Your feet may dry out quickly, so apply a heavier, creamier moisturiser. But make sure to prevent the athlete's foot by keeping the area between toes dry and not applying moisturiser there.
Stay fresh
While you’re on the go, have some body wipes close by to keep you fresh throughout the day and some rose water in a spray bottle to rehydrate your skin. Avoid dirt in the air, such as traffic pollution and cigarette smoke. Avoiding tobacco and second-hand smoke helps maintain clear, radiant skin for years to come.
Be a glow-getter
Exfoliate baby! You shed skin cells constantly, and dead cells sit on top of your skin if you don’t get rid of them. We need you glowing, and dead skin cells can make your skin look dull and dry. Exfoliate one to three times a week to make your summer skin look radiant. Find an exfoliator that works for you!

Hello Darling, There are so many things going on in your life right now, you are discovering more about yourself and it might be just as thrilling as it is scary but I assure you that it is going to be OK. You are most likely realizing what wholesome friendships are because you have now met wonderful young people who see you as their equal and treat you as such; hold on to them and reciprocate this gesture; they often become friends for life and are likely to be the ones beside you, cheering you on through all your big life events. You are probably wondering if your body will change again and let me tell you, it will, both emotionally and physically. On this journey, learn to find balance in your commitment to both embracing who you are and adjusting your lifestyle where need be, to make you better. You only get one body, love it and protect it fiercely. Deciding on what career path to choose is now becoming more a discussion at the dinner table with your parents and I know that we always want to honor what they think is best for us but soak up their wisdom and make a decision that is ultimately yours. If you aren’t settled on one by the time high school is out, there is no harm in experiencing multiple careers. You will find that your life is so beautifully complex from all the leaps of faith you will take, and they will still serve your career really well in future because they help you to be more well-rounded. Lastly if you feel like you have already had your heart broken, trust me, what you’re feeling will pass. There is so much time ahead of you to be cherished by someone who values your worth and is imperfectly perfect for you, he will show up one day. Till then, there is someone who knocks every day, offers a perfect love and yearns for your heart, His name is Jesus; the rest of life is so much more beautiful with Him in it and that life is only one prayer away.
Stay courageous and beautiful.
y k S Salma
Sending you love and light,

Abigail Nkoma (14) My Thing: Dancing Singing
Not My Thing: Sports
I'm a talkative, friendly and social person. My journey as a SKY TV host has been a great experience, I got to meet many amazing people and the SKY community as a whole. My highlight as I reflect on the year has been simply appearing on TV. Not many people my age have the chance to say that. Moreover, working as a SKY host is closely aligned with my dream career, since I want to be a TV personality when I'm older. I also had some low lights along the way. I currently don't have a mobile phone so I would sometimes feel left out of some topics about something they saw on the internet, but I managed to overcome that with how friendly everyone is on set. I always keep in mind that it's about ME cooperating with others so I try to find common ground with those around me to avoid feeling left out. At first, I was nervous. I coped by trying to know more about my colleagues, and I've learned that when working with new people cooperation is key. My favourite thing about the show is that I got to meet amazing celebrities like Princess Natasha Chansa, Abel Chungu, and Mag 44. I've also made new friends when my fellow SKY girls recognize me as a SKY host.
16
That’s been my experience with SKY, wishing us all a happy first birthday, and I hope we get more opportunities to learn and grow together. Henceforth we can look forward to more exciting content.
Musigwa (17) My Thing: Cooking Dancing
Not My Thing: Laundry Smoking Negativity
I’m a funny food lover and a social person. My SKY experience has been nothing less than amazing. I have had so much fun and I’ve been given a platform to express myself with the topics on set and I’ve definitely enjoyed the outfits as well. The crew, SKY Girls and celebrities I have met are awesome people that have been so accommodating despite not knowing what to do when I first jumped on board. SKY has contributed so much to my personal growth and how I interact with other people. It’s been a safe space for me to truly be myself in a non-judgemental environment. Now I really love TV presenting and I’m looking forward to more seasons of the Stay True show. I can’t believe it’s already been a year since SKY launched! Happy Birthday SKY and I wish more girls continue to take the SKY pledge and stay true to themselves.
Alexandra Chileshe (19) My Thing: Fashion Kindness Positivity
Not My Thing: Debby downers Bullies
I’m Alexandra AKA Bwalya XOXO a bubbly and charismatic person. I’m currently an A level student studying Law, History, English language. My SKY experience has genuinely been good, despite the ups and downs that come with the set life, I’ve learnt a lot and continue to learn more. I never imagined myself being on TV and that even my audition was a random spur of the moment. I’ve found myself enjoying it more than I thought I would and it could be ‘my thing’- no pun intended. My experience is fun and I would encourage any-one who would like to try this to get into it. It boosts your confidence and does so much for you, that’s one of the things I love about it. I’ve loved making so many friends on set, like the crew and my co presenters. I’ve enjoyed giving people advice to help solve their problems and to do it on such a huge platform has been nothing short of incredible. I have learnt to be kind and patient to everyone I come in contact with. And how to work with different people. It has also taught me to stay true to myself, to love and accept myself completely.

CELEBRITY INSIDER
SOPHIA CHAPESHAMANO WITH
Sophia Chapeshamano is popularly known for her role on Zambia's first-ever telenovela: Zuba. Playing the role of Natasha Sosala, Sophia is one of our favourite big-screen sweethearts. We got up close and personal with her, and I'm here with the inside scoop!
20
My Thing: Reading Spending time with family Acting Not My Thing: Smoking People who bring other people down Pollution
SKY: What's a normal day in your life like? SOPHIA: When I’m not shooting, I love to hang out, mostly alone. I will read a book or sometimes go out with friends;
have a lunch date, but mostly I love to read or watch something. Otherwise, a usual day in my life starts bright and early to get on set. I get my makeup done, make sure I go over my lines, change into wardrobe, get on set, then head home.
SKY: How do you manage to stay true to yourself in this industry? SOPHIA: I stay true to myself by remembering who I was before I was in the limelight. Also, constantly visualizing
the person I want to be. I make sure to stay rooted in the word of God by keeping around the right company. People that I know will hold me accountable and make me want to become a better person.
SKY: Who was your role model? SOPHIA: My role model is my mother. She is by far one of the most hard-working women I've come across.
She's so wise and intelligent. She thinks in a way that I could only wish for the same. She's the most amazing person I've come across, and I'm not just saying this because she's my mom.
SKY: What advice would you give to young girls who would like to become actresses? SOPHIA: First of all, stay in school! Read your books, and while reading your books, research about acting.
Learn what you could do to make yourself a better actress. You have to stay in school! To keep your options open.
SKY: What are some of the challenges you've faced being a young actress, and how do you deal with them? SOPHIA: I faced several challenges, but the biggest was people trying to take me down the wrong path
because I encountered many different characters. It was a real battle to stay rooted in myself.
SKY:
On your socials, you're very vocal about autism and neurological conditions, is there anyone close to you with this challenge?
SOPHIA:
I'm very vocal about these challenges because I had a sister Temweka Shiloh who passed on. She had hydrocephalus, and her issue was a bit mismanaged. During this time, I was in school, my mom was a single mother, so we would help each other. I noticed how women from less privileged backgrounds struggled, so this made me passionate.
SKY:
We all know that voice projection and confidence mean a lot in your line of work. How do you take care of your voice?
SOPHIA:
I also practice my lines over and over. Repeat them to yourself to become sure of yourself. And I stay away from smoking, which compromises the voice and damages the lungs.
SKY: What does Independence mean to you? SOPHIA: To me, it's about being self-aware to the point where you know who you are and what you stand for. SKY: What’s your favourite traditional dish? SOPHIA: My favourite Zambian traditional dish is katapa with casava meal nshima. Did you know, there's a
Congolese version of this dish served with fish and impwa called pondu sombe samaki.
On a final note, I would like to wish my SKY sisters a happy birthday. May you be true to yourself, invest in your individual growth. Despite society's opinions, we should aspire to be pioneers of self-empowerment!

Benjamin (17) My Thing: Dancing Basketball Being on camera
Not My Thing: Soccer Singing Gossip
My name is Benjamin J. Mukupa and I am 17 years old. I have completed high school. I am a person that takes life seriously and I love to joke. I love hanging out with people that have good energy and positive vibes. I plan on going to university and study Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement. My experience with SKY has been really good, to be honest, and I have been impressed with the most stupendous views. I love being a part of it. What I have enjoyed the most is being on set, meeting new friends and having good exposure. What I love most about SKY is it teaches people how to stay true to themselves which is important because we have so much influence to change or be like everyone else so that we can fit in with others. SKY has helped make an impact on other people’s lives. What I will take away from SKY are the new and improved skills that I have learned and acquired while being a part of SKY. SKY has also helped me be more confident in my career direction. It is such a great opportunity. Happy First Birthday to SKY. Your company has been functioning in the best way. The support of your stakeholders is displayed in the success of your sisterhood. Wish you the same for many more years to come.

Kamaal (19) My Thing: Music
Not My Thing: Negative people
My name is Kamaal Ibrahim and I am 19 years old. I am in university at Murdoch University. I am studying International Business. After university, I want to work with my dad and start my own company. I would describe myself as charismatic which helped with being a part of SKY. I am also relaxed as a person. My experience with SKY has been great. I made so many friends. I had so much fun being a part of the show. It was a great experience. What I enjoyed the most about SKY is being on camera. Being a part of the team and creating content that will positively impact people’s lives. I loved how bright the sets are. It made filming the shows and creating content so much easier. The way the sets were set up was awesome. What I will take away from SKY is the boost of confidence I got from being in front of a camera. Working with different people that I will never forget. SKY is turning 1 and I would like to say Happy Birthday SKY! I’m glad that I got to be a part of the first birthday.
Gabriel (17) Tristan (16) My Thing: Writing
Not My Thing: Any type of false accusations
My name is Tristan Mordecai Tembo and I am 16 years old. I am in high school and I go to Springfields. My dream is to study Literature in Canada or Japan. But depending on my current career I might be dead set on this after high school. I can be charming, annoying, kind, ruthless, a joker or timid depending on how I feel that day. Even though I have multiple personalities I am kind and generous at my core. I am a jack of all trades and a master of none. My experience with SKY has been very fun and educational too. The experience has helped me grow as a content creator and I enjoy doing that. What I have enjoyed the most is the squad (me and the boys). We work so well together and I love being a part of the team. What I love most about SKY is the different categories of content creation. And that the content we create reaches so many people. What I will take away from this experience are the limitless entertainment industry experience and lovely memories. Being a part of SKY is one of the best things that I have experienced. Happy Birthday, SKY! It’s been amazing that we’ve gotten this far and we’re celebrating another year of success. Let’s all work hard to continue to push SKY in the right direction.
My Thing: Music
Not My Thing: Fear
My name is Gabriel Joseph Simutunda and I am 17 years old. I have completed high school. I plan on getting a degree in Business Administration and finding employment in that field. I like to think outside the box and I am someone who doesn’t or tries to break a system. Usually, social constructs have been accepted in our society. My experience with SKY has been fun and interesting in a nutshell. Being on set with the team and being around different people has been exciting so far. What I have loved most is meeting and working with new people and creating connections. I have also gotten better at being on set. The fact that it’s making content that shows people to stand out in their unique way. It is a great way to learn and reach so many people. What I will take away from SKY is being true to myself. It has helped me stick to that because it is easy to change because of other people. SKY is 1 year old and looking back it has been inspiring to young people and has shown them how to stay true to themselves. Happy birthday SKY and I wish it many more years of doing what it has done so far.

CELEBRATION CAKES
HOW TO DECORATE A
CAKE
What's up SKY! Did it ever occur to you that you can have a cake on almost any occasion? Be it weddings, birthdays, parties, engagements, and graduations. To kick start our SKY birthday vibes, we bring you a much-needed cake frosting decor DIY! Is there anything more impressive and tempting than a beautifully frosted cake made just for you? So, here are some tips on decorating a cake for any occasion.
CHECKLIST: - Cake sponge - Frosting (mix icing sugar with butter and food colouring of your choice) - Palette knife/offset spatula - Bread knife - Rotating turntable (optional): makes icing easier as you don’t have to walk around the cake while decorating - Bench or cake scrape (optional) - Piping bag (optional): for icing your cake in whatever design desired, you can also use a Ziploc with the corner snipped off.
STEP 1
PREP Since decorating a cake is a lot of work, it's best to do your job in stages. Bake your cake a day before so it can chill. Chilled cakes don't crumble as much while frosting. To stack your cake make sure the top of each layer is flat. You can also flip it so that the bottom is up for a flatter top.
26
STEP 2
FROST AND PIPE The crumb coat is the first layer of frosting. It must be thin because it’s just there to hold in crumbs. Scoop some frosting onto the centre, then gently spreading from the centre to the edge. You can turn the turntable to help with the circular motions or move around the cake. The most important thing is to make sure that you're comfortable. Thin the frosting. Flatten out the mound of frosting with your offset spatula and work it out just over the edge to maintain an even layer of frosting.
STEP 3
DECORATE Piping the cake is all about being creative. Create whatever pattern you feel is cute and goes along with the theme of the cake décor. Add swirls, flowers, zigzags, dots or hearts. You can be as creative as you want. Just remember that as a beginner, you'll need some practice before you can add details. To give it that WOW factor! Use extra toppings like; chocolates, sweets, candles, cocktail umbrellas, or artificial flowers.
HELPFUL TRICKS: - Holding the bench/cake scraper at about a 45-degree angle, turn the turntable toward it. Keep your hand very steady, and be sure that it's perpendicular to the stand. - Put the cake in the fridge before cutting. 27

My Thing: Design, Fitness, Faith Not My Thing: Confrontation, Procrastination, Self-doubt
By Lincia Mabo
I’m a trained architect and interior designer turned entrepreneur. I use my skill set from my architectural background to produce sustainable crafts and furniture which is done through my brand Saucy Mukosa. It involves using recycled materials such as salvaged or repurposed wood, metal, glass and cotton. We bring new life to discarded waste from production houses and construction industries. My exposure to architecture came about when I was in senior high school. During our usual Monday assemblies, a few students from the Copper Belt University gave us a career talk. They had representatives from each faculty, and the one that stood out to me was architecture because I thought it sounded cool at the time. So, after completing my high school at Kamwala High School I went to CBU for five years to pursue a course in the field. This is a male-dominated industry, so my advice to you would be to remember why you're doing what you're doing. It's for yourself, so don't let anyone look down on you or make you feel incompetent. It's a very demanding field; I have to put in long hours.
28
From the very beginning of my course, it’s been a fight to stay above the water. There were also some financial difficulties along the way, but I had a strong support system that helped me push through. Not to mention I had my passion fuel me when the going got tough. My role models have been the women in my life, primarily my mother and aunts. Every single one of them taught me valuable lessons that I reflect on to date. These women inspired me to be hard working. My drive came from being a person that constantly wants to push my boundaries. I've always wanted to engage myself in something challenging. The first year you do anything in life is the toughest, because you're pretty much learning to leap, walk, and crawl. It’s also the year that shows you just how strong and valued you are. Wherever you go remember you are valuable, and you matter.
My Birthday Gone Wrong Since I was a little girl l always looked forward to my 16th birthday, because your 16th birthday is supposed to be a milestone that’s filled with fireworks, with family and friends that love you alongside the awesome decorations and a fancy car to drive you around like a limousine. My 16th birthday meant everything to me because it was going to be the most amazing experience of being a teen, and it was going to give me inspiration to become a young lady or woman. Months went by and eventually before I knew it, it was my 16th B-day. When I woke up on my birthday I found no one was home, so I got excited thinking they were setting up a surprise party for me! I started to get ready by styling my hair and I put in so much effort because it looked like a professional styled it, I was so proud of myself. I then went on to pick my outfit that made me look like a princess. I was so happy because I looked bomb! And now my excitement kept rising for my surprise party, everything seemed to be falling into place. I wish you could have seen the smile on my face. A couple of hours went by with me waiting for someone to call or pick me up for my surprise birthday party. I just couldn't wait until someone came through that door. I felt like I was going to explode with joy. Eventually my excitement started to dim because I realized that no one was coming. My heart sank and my smile dropped. I went to my room so disappointed that nobody came or called me, I felt like everybody forgot about me and that nobody cared for me any more. Eventually I fell asleep because I was tired of being upset. I was so bummed out that I didn't even get a birthday cake. Can you imagine not having any cake on your birthday? It was so upsetting, not even a cupcake. My parents came home from work late and the next day they promised to make it up to me, though I'm still waiting. Anyway, I wish I had not raised my hopes so high that I ended up being so disappointed, maybe I should have called someone before I rushed to conclusions.

Advice
Hi SKY,
Lately I’ve been feeling left out of my friend group. They all hang out together and never tell me when they do. I always see it from their posts on Instagram and I feel bad. But I don’t want to feel bad, I want to be able to still be happy even without my friends. What should I do?
Hey SKY girls! Life can get really hectic, with school, friendships and family and we definitely feel you, and we are here to help you get through all the phases. This time we are highlighting some questions we have received relating to the issue’s theme of ‘independence’. Thanks for sharing your questions with us, and keep them coming!
Hi SKY,
So most of my classmates have been going to the movies and for ice-cream at the mall but my parents won’t let me go and I feel like I’m not free and they treat me like a baby, but I’m not! Please help, I’m tired of staying home all day!
Hey B,
Hey sis,
That’s totally uncool, if they’re your real friends then they should include you in their plans and make you feel wanted. But look here sis, you’re amazing and you definitely deserve amazing friends. Try speaking to them about it, tell them how you feel, maybe they don’t realize what they are doing. You could also keep yourself busy and be your own fun! Try out new hobbies, read, watch TV and just be independent. You’ll see that you won’t feel alone and you will also attract some really cool friends who will want to spend time with you cause of the activities you can teach them. Don’t be too sad about the other friends. Everything will work out just fine in the end.
Well first off, you will always be a baby to your parents no matter how old you get. They love you and are only looking out for you because they want what’s best for you, so go easy on them. I understand you feel like you are growing and you need to go out and have fun with your friends – which you should because it’s healthy to socialize once in a while. Try speaking to them nicely and explain to them what you need and how you feel. Also always remember to ask permission and tell your parents where you’re going and what time you would like to be back. Make sure it’s not past your curfew, if you’re responsible enough to do this, then they will definitely see it and loosen up a little with the freedom.
Hey SKY,
Hey SKY,
Is it wrong for me to have a different style? I don’t have all the clothes or hairstyles that my friends have, I like other stuff and I’m too afraid to wear them out. Will people think I’m weird?
Hey Babe,
Listen, YOU ARE UNIQUE! Never forget this. Your style is different because YOU are different. You have a different mind and a different vibe, and that’s a good thing. You don’t have to be like everyone else. Being independent and bold is cool. You could probably be a trendsetter, maybe everyone will like your style. So be confident and wear your clothes proudly. It’s okay if not everyone likes it, your style is for you not for them! *wink*

Hi SKY,
I think I have been struggling with finding my identity. Sometimes, I can’t make my own decisions, I always wait for my older sister to help me make certain decisions. How do I fix this?
Hey Girl,
This happens to most people and trust us it’s just a phase and it will be over before you know it. Teenage years are the most fun but confusing years of your life, you know? So you’re going to experience a lot of changes. All you have to do is take time to learn and understand yourself and your personality. Find out what you like and don’t like. This will help you be more independent and make your own choices. Also, try speaking to your older sister and asking for her help - she’s probably been through the same thing and would be happy to support you in finding your own identity.
I wrote to you because I don’t know how to get through my situation. I feel like I can’t speak my mind. When I don’t agree with some things my friends say or if I want to stand up for myself, or speak out on things that matter to me, I struggle to freely voice out and go mute. I don’t know if I’m scared or intimidated by friends but it’s really bothering me, please help!
Hey Sis,
I’m sorry you feel like you don’t have the freedom to speak in your friend groups. You’re free to speak on anything you want because you are entitled to have an opinion. Your friends should make you comfortable to speak your truth. We all have different ideas that could be heard and could be great. You should be allowed to do the same. I suggest that next time just take a deep breath before you speak and get your words together and gather up some courage to speak. Your friends might love what you have to say but you never know until you try! Practice small at first, then as you build up confidence you can speak even more freely.
