The Power is in You Tuesday, April 19 @ 7:00 pm Can your intentions make changes in your life? Explore the tradition of “declaring intentions” to fulfill your dreams. Join us for a discussion of how your willpower (or intentions) may result in changing your life and taking back control. Take a moment to open yourself up to dreaming and declaring your intentions and step back to see what the universe holds for you and those you care for. About the Speaker: Robert Steingraber lives in Syracuse and has practiced Wicca for over 40 years. He has lectured on the topics of Wicca and Reincarnation for many years. Previously he spoke about Reincarnation & Past Life Recall at the DCL.

CNY Ghost Hunters: Paranormal Evidence Explored Thurs., March 10 @ 7:00 pm Learn why, where and how CNY Ghost Hunters identify paranormal activity. Watch video evidence, hear EVPs (Electronic Voice Phenomena) and ask your questions about the evidence captured over the years. They'll also bring some equipment and review what each piece does and how it’s used. Registration Encouraged.

Thurs., April 7 @ 7:00 pm In 1863, Ulysses S. Grant was tasked with capturing the last remaining Confederate stronghold on the Mississippi River.

Sherman: March to the Sea Thurs., May 5 @ 7:00 pm

William Tecumseh Sherman took his army “from Atlanta to the sea” and cut the Confederacy in half in one of history’s great military campaigns.

Chamberlain: Hero of Little Round Top Thurs., June 2 @ 7:00 pm

A college professor from Maine became an unlikely hero at the Battle of Gettysburg as he and his regiment held a key defensive position.

Cheryl Pula returns to the DCL for more exciting “moments in history” programs. She previously presented “Crime Spree,” a look at famous unsolved mysteries, and “Battle Royale” about turning points in the Revolutionary, Civil, and Second World wars.

Get Moving Arthritis Foundation Exercise Class Fridays @ 11:00am March 11 & 25

Learn exercises to help improve joint and muscle mobility! The Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program is designed to help those with joint and/or muscle problems achieve improved mobility, muscle strength and endurance in order to perform their daily activities. Learn and perform exercises standing up or sitting in a chair. Dress comfortably. Come to one or all sessions. Registration Encouraged. Spanish Dancing Spanish Dance Tuesday, May 10 @ 7:00pm

With a nod to Cinco de Mayo, we’re pleased to offer a Latin dance celebration. Maria Guzman-Colegrove, a bailaora (dancer), will begin the evening with a short talk and demonstration of Cielito Lindo, a very popular folk song/dance. She will be accompanied by Andy Culpepper on togue (guitar) and cante (singer) Luba Lesser. Audience participation encouraged following the demonstration. Registration Encouraged. About the Performers: Guzman-Colegrove, Culpepper, and Lesser are members of Alegre Flamenco, a Central New York collaborative of dancers and musicians. Alegre Flamenco specializes in traditional and modern interpretations of Flamenco, a passionate and seductive art form from Spain. Culpepper is a professional luthier, and Lesser teaches voice and piano and is a adjunct voice professor at Onondaga Community College. www.alegreflamenco.com

You’re invited to a mystery at the DCL! Look for clues, interrogate suspects, and solve a crime. For ages 18 & up! Are you a fan of whodunnits and crime solving? Discover motive, means and opportunity as you set out to solve the crime. Participants will receive their invitations prior to each event; they will discover who they are upon arrival at the scene of the crime. Additional clues will be revealed as the evening progresses. There’s plenty of time to solve the crime, so be sure to enjoy the provided refreshments. A good time will be had by all! Registration Required.

Tech Sessions Discovery To Go STEM Brainstorms - For parents and educators By popular demand, these sessions will give parents the opportunity to develop curriculum-related activities with the DTG kits and equipment. Each month, we will bring out a selection of DTG equipment and explore a specific theme while thinking about ways to support age-appropriate learning with these items. Parents and educators can preview the kits and develop learning goals for their kids and students incorporating these hands-on activity kits. Great brainstorms can be shared with other DTG kit borrowers to support learning opportunities for kids throughout the community. All sessions are in the Buckland Room from 12:00 to 1:00pm Wednesday, March 23 - Powerful Toys Come and learn with library staff as we dive into the new DTG kits: Snap Circuits, MakeyMakey, and K'NEX.

Wednesday, April 27 - Tech + Teach Come and learn with library staff as we dive into the new DTG kits: Lego WeDo and the Apps available on the Library iPads.

Dealing with Loss Thurs., May 12 @ 5:30 pm

Loss isn’t only about the death of a loved one. Changes in where you live, physical or mental health, or job loss and career retirement are all moments when we may experience loss in our lives. Dr. O’Neill will discuss how we acknowledge (or don’t) these many losses, healthy ways to deal with them, and some resources that can provide help, guidance and support. Registration Encouraged. About the Speaker: Rich O’Neill, Ph.D., ABPP, is a Fellow of the American Board of Professional Psychology and a professor in SUNY Upstate’s Institute for Decision-Making Excellence and Leadership. A former president of the NYS Psychological Association, he has made more than 500 TV appearances. He consults with individuals, partners, and groups in using research-supported psychology for enhancing our lives at home and work.
