At the DCL’s Annual Meeting on February 25, 2016, the following new trustees were elected for a first three-year term: George Kallander, David Lankes, Barbara Macdonald, Robert Tartakoff, and James Trevett. Trustees who were provisionally appointed in 2015 to fill vacant terms and were elected for a first three-year term are: Douglas Arena, Jill Enright, and Shelly Field. Trustees elected for a second threeyear term are: Carl Austin, Christene Gantos, and Mary Keib Smith.

and Rosalie Young, former Chair of the Board Facilities Committee, have completed their second (and final) terms. I’d like to thank Steve and Rosalie for their six years of service and dedication. In addition, I would like to recognize the efforts of all former and present trustees who have devoted – and continue to devote – their time and talents towards making our vision for a new community library a reality.

DCL’S MUSIC SERIES Those of you who attended our January concert, featuring Bare Bones Trombone Quartet, and February’s performance by Musical Eclectics experienced an afternoon of great music and a little humor.

Now that Spring is almost here, we would like to tell you about our upcoming DCL Music Series lineup. There’s something for everyone, and we encourage you to sign up early.

Keyna Hora Klezmer Band performs on March 13. If you haven’t heard them play before, now is your chance to do so. Their lively music pulls the audience into their performance and even their dancing.

On April 17, the Northwinds Woodwind Trio will perform with two flutes and a clarinet.

With music ranging from Bach to the Beatles, Belle Aire returns to the library on May 22, performing a selection of tunes on English handbells.

Finally, on June 5, Mark Zane will perform on vocals and guitar. His concert features folk rock and acoustic rock from John Denver and Johnny Cash to Bob Dylan.

DCL NEWSLETTER AARP Tax Assistance at the DCL

The Library will have limited tax forms and booklets available. Additional forms can be requested from the Through Thurs., April 14, the AARP will provide a free Librarian on duty or by logging onto one of our public tax preparation service at the DeWitt Community internet computers.

Library. This service is geared toward helping seniors We do charge a .15¢ per page printing fee. and low-to-middle income families who need help preparing their taxes.

Reservations for appointments are required and are offered on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 10:00 am, 11:30 am, and 1:30 pm.

To make an appointment, stop by the Library’s Front Desk or call us at (315) 446-3578. Be sure to bring a copy of last year’s filing (if you have one) and a valid form of ID. Preparers are also asking patrons to bring their social security cards due to changes in filing.

LONGTIME STAFF MEMBER

RETIRES

Linda White, longtime staff member at DeWitt Community Library, has retired after 40 years of service.

Linda has worked as a circulation and processing assistant since May 7, 1976. She has seen six directors, three locations, and countless staff and librarians. Processing books has been her favorite job.

Linda will spend time with her husband, Robert, who retired 8 years ago, her daughter, Laurie, and a new granddaughter, Pearle.

She will be missed.

IT HAPPENED AT THE LIBRARY AND IN THE COMMUNITY! DeWitt Community Library staff participated in the TACNY Maker Hall event as part of the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Celebration at Nottingham High School in January. Erin Cassidy, Assistant Director for Technology and Digital Services, shows off the Heart & Lungs Lab app on one of two Apple iPads that will soon be available for checkout at the Library. The iPads are part of the Library’s Discovery To Go collection and are preloaded with more than 40 apps that pair with items in the collection. The Heart & Lungs Lab app, showing how the circulatory and respiratory systems work, adds a more interactive experience when used with the heart model, also pictured.

Toothpick World came to Terrific Thursdays as Stan Munro showed 40 children and their parents how to build almost anything with toothpicks.

The popular Pinterest trend of adults coloring intricate designs was brought to the library as part of the monthly Crafting with Kelly series in January.

In 1990, the Crime Writers’ Association (CWA) released their picks for the 100 best mystery novels. Five years later, the Mystery Writers of America (MWA) released their choices. Many titles appear on both lists. However, there are variations in rankings and unique listings on both. And though it may be time for an update, these titles are still worth the read.
