Age Guidelines For Summer Programs: Our librarians have planned a variety of activities for children of all ages. Each event is carefully designed with a particular age group in mind. Please observe age requirements listed.

Summer Reading For the Littlest Patrons Little Movers @ the DCL! July - August
For ages birth to 5 years old. The Little Movers Summer Reading Program helps parents and children build important early literacy skills. Stop by the Library to register and pick up an activity sheet to share with your child. Complete the activities on the sheet and bring it back to the Library and receive a prize. This program runs for the months of July and August. Participate for one or both months.

Get in the Game & Read @ Your Library
Monday, June 27 - Monday, August 15 For grades 6 & up. Teens, discover the summer reading program that has been upgraded to include more than just reading. Teens will have the opportunity to earn “badges” by completing tasks such as creating a meal, writing a poem, composing a song, attending a library program, and many more. The DCL will award prizes for the most badges earned as well as the most creative project. Teens may still participate in the traditional reading club as well.

On Your Mark, Get Set… Read @ the DCL!
Monday, June 27 - Monday, August 15 For Grades PreK—5. You’re encouraged to read (or listen to) the books you want. Record your reading adventures in your very own Reader’s Journal! Then visit the Library and share the stories you've read with a librarian. A prize will be given out each week to encourage you to explore the world of books. Children in preschool through Grade 5 can register at any time during the program’s run.
MISS JENNY CHALLENGES YOU! 8 weeks, 4,000 books. Can it be done? If participants of the Children’s Summer Reading program, “On Your Mark, Get Set...Read!”, read a combined total of 4,000 books before Monday, August 15, Miss Jenny and Miss Kelly will get Silly Stringed!

Join us for a party celebrating the end of our summer reading program. For children in preschool through 5th Grade who are registered for our Summer Reading Program at the DCL! Celebrate with pizza, crafts and more! Find out if DCL summer readers reached this year’s goal. No registration necessary for either event.

Nate the Great juggles balls, rings, hoops, clubs, plates and more in this interactive performance with a variety of exciting stunts. There might even be a few volunteers from the audience to help him out.
In the Magic of Reading Show, follow Jeff the Magic Man on a fun journey through a Magical Storyland. You’ll get the chance to see a cat with a hat and be made an honorary wizard at the Warthogs School of Wizards. Kids can learn how to perform a magic trick in the mini-magic workshop following the show.
Jump, Dance and Spin Into Fairy Tales Thursday, July 7 @ 6:30pm
Move to the story beat as award-winning storyteller Robin Bady tells tales of impossible races, incredible stretches, and ridiculous climbs.
Dan the Snakeman Wednesday, July 13 @ 6:30pm
Dan the Snakeman brings his educational show to the Library! Learn about snakes and reptiles and their importance to the environment. Ask questions and interact with the critters. For all ages!
Puppeteer Nancy Sander presents the classic fairy tale, “The Three Millie Goats Buff.” Guaranteed to bring lots of laughter along with a little audience participation. Recommended for pre-K through AARP!

Come and get “spooned” at the DCL with Jim Cruise, the Spoon Man in this hilarious, interactive comedy program for the whole family.
Balloon Fitness Workshop Wednesday, August 17 @ 6:30pm
Jeff the Magic Man leads a hands-on workshop showing children how to exercise their hands with balloon twisting. Participants will learn how to twist simple balloon structures as well as balloon games and exercises. Then take home your balloon creations.
The Nate & Kate Kids Show Monday, July 18 @ 4:00pm
Nate and Kate incorporate many musical instruments and a little musical education in this show with a mix of original and familiar children’s songs, lots of juggling, and audience participation. Recommended for ages 1 to 8 and their caregivers.
The Wizard of Oz
Saturday, August 6 @ 11:00am The nationally-touring theater troupe, Hampstead Stage Company, presents a stroll down the yellow brick road with Dorothy & company to see the Wizard and defeat the Wicked Witch of the West. Recommended for ages 5 & up!

Storytimes BABY BOP Mondays @ 10:30 am Jun 27 | Jul 11, 18, 25 | Aug 1, 8 & 15 Wednesdays @ 10:30 June 29 | July 6, 13, 20, 27 | Aug 3, 10 & 17 For ages birth - 24 months
This lively storytime is appropriate for babies and their caregivers. Come ready to participate and help your child develop essential early literacy skills as we share books, enjoy music and movement, and sing songs and nursery rhymes. Each session lasts 15 - 20 minutes, followed by playtime.
TODDLER TIME! TUESDAYS @ 10:30 am Jun 28 | Jul 5, 12, 19, 26| Aug 2, 9 & 16 For ages 24 - 36 months
This fun and active storytime is for toddlers and their caregivers. Encourage their activity by joining us for stories, rhymes, and songs. Each session lasts about 30 minutes followed by coloring and playtime.

TODDLER DANCE PARTY Fridays @ 10:30 am
June 17, July 15 & August 19 For ages 18 months - 5 years old. Come shake your sillies out and dance with your friends! There will be musical instruments, bubbles, and more. Toddler, preschoolers, and their parents/caregivers will enjoy listening and dancing to some favorite and new tunes. No registration necessary.

Full STEAM Ahead Storytime
Fridays, June 24, July 22 & Aug. 26 @ 10:30am For ages 3 to 6. Join us with your little engineer for a STEAM powered storytime focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math exploration! We will be reading books about a STEAM topic and then doing an experiment.
Preschool Storytime Guest
Thursday, June 30 at 10:30am For ages 3 and up. Author Mylisa Larsen will be our special guest at storytime! She's visiting the DCL to read her picture book How to Put Your Parents to Bed. Enjoy crafts and activities. Registration encouraged.
Stuffed Animal Sleepover
THE DCL AT RYDER PARK Nature Explorer StoryWalk
Saturday, July 2 through Friday, August 5 For all ages. at Ryder Park in the Town of DeWitt
StoryWalk速 is a fun way to read and experience nature at the same time! Come visit our StoryWalk at Ryder Park which we will be presenting in coordination with the Town of DeWitt. The StoryWalk速 will be opening on July 2nd and will stay posted until August 5th. During the month the StoryWalk速 is posted two stories will be featured and will be switched on July 22nd to allow visitors to experience the StoryWalk twice. Please join us for this exciting event! (StoryWalk速 was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and has developed with the help of Rachel Senechal, Kellogg-Hubbard Library.)
Wednesday, August 10 @ 6:30pm For ages 2 and up. What happens in the library after closing? Bring your stuffed animal friend to the library for a special stuffy-only sleepover. The sleepover will begin with a pajama storytime and craft before saying goodnight to our stuffed animal friend. We'll take pictures during the sleepover and post them to our Facebook page. Participating stuffed animals will receive a certificate and can be picked up on Thursday, August 11th after 11am.

Please Note: Library staff will be accompanying children upstairs to the skate park. Parents are welcome to join us, but it's not necessary. We will leave the library at 1:55pm. Please plan to arrive early!

Lego: Technology Build
Wednesday, July 13 @ 1:30pm For ages 7 and up. LEGO WeDo Construction Set is a beginning introduction to robotics. You’ll work in teams to build LEGO models featuring working motors and sensors and then program the models. Develop skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Most importantly, you’ll have a fun time! Registration Required.
Family Fort Night
Friday, July 15 @ 6:00pm For families with children ages 2 and up. We'll be building forts for a very special after hours program! Bring your blankets, sheets and pillows from home and enjoy stories and activities. Don't forget your pajamas and flashlights! We'll provide pizza and s'mores. Registration required.
Family Yoga
Mondays, July 11, 18 & 25 & Aug. 1 @ 11:00am For ages birth through 6 years old and their caregivers. Enjoy a fun-filled, humorous and relaxing family yoga/ dance class. No experience needed. Please wear comfortable clothes and bring a yoga mat or beach towel. Registration Required.
Crafting with Kelly for Kids

Monday, July 25 @ 2:00pm For ages 6 and up! Do you love to skateboard or roller skate? Would you like to learn more? Join us as we take a field trip upstairs to Black Mamba skate park. Black Mamba staff will provide information on skateboarding safety, parts of the skateboard, Roller derby facts, and demonstrate some fun skateboarding tricks! Incentives will be provided to come back and skate on another visit.

The Great Library Obstacle Course
Thursday, August 11 @ 11:30am For ages 2 to 6. What better place to climb through tunnels, jump over bean bags and run around piles of books than at the library? It’s the Great Library Obstacle Course. With an adult’s help, little ones can run the course, set it back up and do it again as many times as they want. No registration necessary.
Messy Play Day
Friday, August 12 @ 10:30am For ages birth to five years old. It’s going to be a messy and fun morning at the DCL! Join us for fun sensory play activities, like play dough, painting and water play. Please wear old clothes (or swimsuit) or bring a change of clothes. No registration necessary.
Life-Size Angry Birds
Thursday, August 18 @ 2:00pm For ages 6—12. Come play Angry Birds, life-size. Make your pigs and birds and then set up the boxes to knock them down! Registration required.
DCL Crafts @ Jamesville Beach Geared for ages 5 & up!
Looking for something to do this summer? Join the Library crew at Jamesville Beach and make some fun crafts that you’ll simply love! DeWitt Community Library will be offering awesome crafts to beachgoers at Jamesville Beach Park. Children’s Librarian Jennifer Burke and Para-librarian for Children’s Services Kelly Sickler will be hosting these fun sessions. The DCL will provide all supplies. Children must be accompanied by an adult. We’ll also have pizza, provided courtesy of Robbie T’s Pizza in Jamesville.
Parking fees are not included.

Randy Lawrence of World Class Karate in ShoppingTown Mall will demonstrate some karate moves and relate some terms and traditions of the sport. Participants should wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing to participate in learning some beginning karate moves. Lawrence World Class Karate is home to the most AAU champions in Central New York. Their family-oriented facility is staffed with professional personnel who promote traditional karate philosophy of discipline, courtesy, and respect. Green Screen Workshop

Learn how to make fun digital photographs and short films using green screen technology. There will be a brief discussion of the use of visual effects in films followed by lots of green screen fun in this hands-on workshop. Just bring your imagination and favorite props you want to use. Refreshments will be served.
ANIME AFTER HOURS Saturdays, 6:00 to 9:00 pm June , July & August The DeWitt Community Library and Anime Syracuse present ANIME AFTER HOURS! All are welcome to an evening of Gaming and Anime Screenings! Enjoy 3 Anime Screenings in the Friends Room. Bring your own card or table top games, or try one of ours. Discovery To Go STEM Brainstorms Come and learn with library staff as we dive into the new DTG kits. Each month, we will bring out a selection of DTG equipment and explore a specific theme while thinking about ways to support ageappropriate learning with these items. This is unstructured time to allow kids and their parents a change to try out, play, and learn with our Discovery to Go collection. Parents and educators can also preview the kits and develop lessons to incorporate these hands-on activity sets into their lessons during these sessions. All sessions are in the Buckland Room from 12:00 to 1:00pm. Registration Encouraged. Wednesday, June 22 - Math Manipulatives Abacus, balances, fraction counters, and other cool math kits.

Explorations at the Library Zoo to You

Live zoo animals will visit the Library with an educator from the Rosamond Gifford Zoo at Burnet Park. Learn about the importance of the animal kingdom. Fascinating facts and close-up views of the creatures will be featured.
The MOST: Ready, Set, Spin! Keep Moving! Wed., July 27 @ 6:30pm Recommended for all ages!
Have you ever wondered why golf balls have dimples? How ice skaters spin so fast? Or if you could bounce a basketball on the moon? The games we play may vary, but science rules do not change. Yet if we understand the rules, perhaps we can push the boundaries. Join the MOST as we explore the why and how of play on our perpetually spinning planet and beyond!
No registration necessary. Space is limited; attendance will be on a first come, first served basis. These programs are supported by funds from the New York State Library’s Family Literacy Library Services grant program.

Rumors and pranks have plagued St. John’s Academy, and now a student has been stabbed as Homecoming approaches. It’s the most difficult Syracuse mystery to date with suspects to sort through and secrets to uncover. Will you be able to solve the case? It’s only a matter of time... For ages 18 & up! Registration Required. You’re invited to a mystery at the DCL! Look for clues, interrogate suspects, and solve a crime. Are you a fan of whodunnits and crime solving? Discover motive, means and opportunity as you set out to solve the crime. Additional clues will be revealed as the evening progresses. There’s plenty of time to solve the crime, so be sure to enjoy the provided refreshments. A good time will be had by all!
