Summer Reading Program for Kids Dig Into Reading @ the DCL! Monday, June 24 - Monday, August 12 Dig into reading this summer! You’re encouraged to read (or listen to) the books you want. Record your reading adventures in your very own Book Miner’s Log! Then visit the Library and share the stories you've read with a librarian. A prize will be given out each week to encourage you to explore the world of books. Children, in preschool thru Grade 5, can register at any time during the program’s run. Kick-Off Party Monday, June 24 @ 3:00 pm Summer reading begins with crafts, face painting, and more! Parents can learn about our Summer Reading Program, which encourages children to read. Children in preschool through 5th Grade can register for our Children’s Summer Reading Program.
End of Summer Party Monday, August 12 @ 11:00 am For children in preschool through 5th Grade who are registered for our Summer Reading Program at the DCL! Find out if DCL summer readers reached this year’s goal. No registration necessary for either event.
MISS JENNY CHALLENGES YOU! 8 weeks, 5,000 books. Can it be done? If participants of the Children’s Summer Reading program, “Dig Into Reading!”, read a combined total of 5,000 books before Monday, August 12, Miss Jenny will voluntarily dye her hair, but what color will it be? You get to choose!
Teen Summer Reading Program: “Beneath the Surface” Teens, entering grades 6 & up, dig into an all new summer reading program that has been upgraded to include more than just reading. Teens will have the opportunity to earn “badges” by completing tasks such as creating a meal, writing a poem, composing a song, attending a library program, and many more. The DCL will award prizes for the most badges earned as well as the most creative project.

WEEKDAY EVENTS FOR KIDS! TODDLER DANCE PARTY Fridays @ 10:30 am June 14, July 19 & August 16 For ages 18 months - 5 years old. Come shake your sillies out and dance with your friends! Infant, Toddler & Preschool Storytimes BABY BOP THURSDAYS @ 10:30 am June 13, 20, 27 | July 11, 18, 25 | August 1, 8 & 15 For ages birth - 18 months
This lively storytime is appropriate for babies and their caregivers. Come ready to participate and help your child develop essential early literacy skills as we share books, enjoy music and movement, and sing songs and nursery rhymes. Each session lasts 15 - 20 minutes, followed by playtime.
TODDLER TIME! TUESDAYS @ 10:30 am June 11, 18, 25 | July 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 | August 6 & 13 For ages 19 - 36 months This fun and active storytime is for toddlers and their caregivers. Encourage their activity by joining us for stories, rhymes, and songs. Each session lasts about 20 minutes followed by coloring and playtime.

TEEN PAGE Go Beneath the Surface, Beyond Reading for this year’s summer reading program. Teens will earn
badges for a variety of activities they may take part in this summer. Cook a meal, write a poem, compose a song, attend a library program, and more. DCL will award prizes (including tickets to the MOST, to the New York State Fair, and more!) for the most badges earned as well as the most creative project. Teens may still participate in the traditional reading club as well. Teens entering 6th grade and up are invited to register for the program.

You’re invited to a mystery at the DCL! Look for clues, interrogate suspects, and solve a crime. For ages 18 & up! Are you a fan of whodunnits and crime solving? Discover motive, means and opportunity as you set out to solve the crime. Participants will receive their invitations prior to each event; they will discover who they are upon arrival at the scene of the crime. Additional clues will be revealed as the evening progresses. Summer Reading for Adults “Groundbreaking Reads!” The DeWitt Community Library is proud to present the second annual Summer Reading Program for adults. The theme for this year’s program is “Groundbreaking Reads”, and it will run from June 24 – August 12. Adults are encouraged to keep track of books they read on a reading log and submit a review for a chance to win an e-reader. Each participant will receive a coupon for one free book from our ongoing book sale. Be rewarded for your reading, join in the fun and prove that libraries rock!

Discover the ‘rags-to-riches’ story of the local mare who dominated the mid-1800s racing world, inspiring the Stephen Foster song, Camptown Races. Named ‘Queen of the Turf’ by the New York Times, Flora Temple won 92 races and was the first horse to race a mile in 2 minutes, 20 seconds.
A serial killer stalked California in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He dubbed himself “Zodiac.” His identity remains unknown, but his crime spree inspired two movies, Dirty Harry with Clint Eastwood and Zodiac with Jake Gyllenhaal and Robert Downey, Jr.
About the Speaker: A retired Technical Services Librarian at SUNY Morrisville, Sue Greenhagen is an historian for the Town of Eaton, Village of Morrisville and affiliated with numerous assorted editorial and historical projects throughout CNY.
