Friends of the DCL Annual Meeting Saturday, January 18, 2014 @ 2:00 - 3:30 pm The DCL Friends Annual Meeting presenting Chuck D'Imperio and Unknown Museums of Upstate New York. Author Chuck D'Imperio presents a fascinating look at 50 little known museums around Upstate New York. D'Imperio explored the region and visited its many museums to create this unique guide to Upstate's hidden treasures. Book signing follows. The evening leads off with a 15-minute DCL Friends business meeting and nomination of new board members. Light refreshments will be served. Registration is Recommended. About the Speaker: Chuck D'Imperio, a longtime award-winning radio broadcaster, has written several books about Upstate New York, including Great Graves of Upstate New York: Final Resting Places of 70 True American Legends and Monumental New York!: A Guide to 30 Iconic Memorials in Upstate New York.

Discover the Erie Canal! A program on the history, the renovation, and what guests can expect to enjoy when they visit the Erie Canal Park in Camillus. Registration Encouraged.

Join Cheryl Pula for an engaging talk on mysterious moments in history! Jamestown, Virginia, was not the first British attempt to found a permanent colony in America, nor was Plymouth, Mass. The first was on Roanoke Island in what is now North Carolina. The colonists disappeared, and no trace of them has ever been found. What became of them? Registration Encouraged.

This program is sponsored by a Senator John A. DeFrancisco Library Cultural Programming Grant. About the Speakers: Dr. Dave Beebe is the director of the Camillus Erie Canal Park and president of the Camillus Canal Society. He and his wife, Liz Beebe, are founding members of the Erie Canal Park, operated and maintained by 160 volunteers under the umbrella of the Town of Camillus Parks and Recreation Department and the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor in Upstate New York.

About the Speaker: Author and Historian, Cheryl Pula, returns to the DCL for more exciting “moments in history” programs.

Develop your skills and techniques and make your own greeting cards. Aubrey Hait will show you how. All supplies are included, but there is a $12.00 fee for 4 cards and envelopes.

Murder Mystery Party 1952: a McCarthy Era Mystery Friday, March 7 @ 7:00 pm Early one morning, a snow plowman discovers a car off the side of the road, but the man inside didn’t die by accident. He was shot. Discover what motive lies behind his murder during the height of the McCarthy era and the red scare. You’re invited to a mystery at the DCL! Look for clues, interrogate suspects, and solve a crime. For ages 18 & up! Are you a fan of whodunnits and crime solving? Discover motive, means and opportunity as you set out to solve the crime. Participants will receive their invitations prior to each event; they will discover who they are upon arrival at the scene of the crime. Additional clues will be revealed as the evening progresses. There’s plenty of time to solve the crime, so be sure to enjoy the provided refreshments. A good time will be had by all! Registration Required.

with Erin Cassidy, Assistant Director for Technology and Digital Services Erin will talk about her current favorite web tool: Wikipedia. She will also show you other wikis and talk about doing informal and formal research using these free information portals. Find out what “Wiki-tripping” is and learn another way to do web searches.

Sign up for a one-onone tech help session to get you through. When signing up, please tell us what kind of tech help you would like. If your question relates to a specific device, please bring it with you on the day of your appointment.

Join us for this hands-on program and learn how to create your own comic strips, cartoons, and animations using free software and web-based computer programs such as Chogger, Comic Master, and more. Terrific Thursdays Welcome to Dewitt Community Library’s series of monthly programs developed with input from the DCL’s Homeschoolers Advisory Board. Learn more about what the Library offers, meet with other homeschooling families, and enjoy an activity based on the monthly theme. Hal’s performance is aimed at ages 9 and up.

For ages 18 months to 5 years old. Come shake your sillies out and dance with your friends! There will be musical instruments, bubbles, and more! Toddlers, preschoolers, and their caregivers will have fun listening and dancing to some favorite and new tunes. No Registration Necessary.

Drop-in Playtime

Tuesday, December 10 & 17 at 10:30 am - 12:30 pm For all ages.

Stop in while you’re out doing errands and take a toy break. The LEGO table, the train table and some awesome toys will be set up just for your child. You can stay for a few minutes or for the full two hours.

Please note: Parents must stay with their child during this activity.

It’s cold out there! So grab a warm cup of cocoa and join us for some wintry crafts. We’ll get the scissors, glue and paint and put together crafts that celebrate our beautiful winter season.

Boating Education Law Update Thursday, January 9 at 7:00 pm Presented by the Syracuse Sail & Power Squadron with guest speaker NY State Assemblyman Al Stirpe. Current and future boat owners can learn about the implementation of a new boater education law, scheduled to take effect in Spring 2014. Open to the public. Registration strongly encouraged so there will be enough hand-out materials.

Explore what’s worked in the past and focus on your hopes for the future. Get feedback from the instructor and workshop participants.

Sign up at the Library or on the Library’s web site (www.dewlib.org) to meet with a Library staff member for individualized help with writing a successful resume and cover letter. Each hourlong tutorial will be held in the Library.

DCL Career Connections Laptop Patrons, ages 16 & up, are encouraged to borrow our career laptop, which includes many special features useful to the job hunter. The laptop contains shortcuts to some of the best career-related sites on the web. Find a quiet corner in the Library to work on your resume and get started on your future!
