HOW TO CREATE A
ONE-LENGTH SOLID form
From Pivot Point LAB, a bespoke VTCT learning resource, this step-by-step takes you through the procedure for a one-length solid form, or bob.
These graphics show shorter exterior lengths and longer interior lengths, which allow the hair to fall in a way that gives the appearance of one length.
The diagram shows the sectioning and parting for this haircut.
01
Begin with a centre parting that extends from the forehead to the centre nape. With the head upright, use natural fall to cut the guideline. Position the comb diagonally on one side and cut parallel to the section with no elevation or tension.
02
Use the same technique on the opposite side. Note that your fingers and scissors will be parallel to the section. Check the angle of your fingers and scissors before cutting.
04
Work from the centre nape outwards using natural fall, no elevation and minimal tension. Cut parallel and continue to check for symmetry as you work.

03
Check balance and symmetry, observing the line in natural fall.
06
When the partings reach the front hairline, subsection vertically from the ears to the top of the head.
