Todo es tendencia Trend is everywhere A nadie puede extrañar que las marcas se nutran, a la hora de diseñar sus zapatillas, de lo que se hace, lo que se ve, lo que se siente en las calles.

De ahí que nunca se sepa del todo si las tendencias son un reflejo de lo que calzan los consumidores, o bien las grandes compañías son las que marcan los estilos que terminan imponiéndose.

En los últimos tiempos, se han llegado a popularizar incluso las ugly shoes (o “zapatillas de padre”, como se conocen en español). Estos modelos aparatosos y descuidados han puesto patas arriba todos los códigos del calzado: lo que antes era un pecado de “lesa etiqueta”, ahora son el último grito para muchas marcas. Por suerte, nosotros no caemos en esos excesos porque nuestro catálogo muestra una línea más deportivo y estético.

Pero lo interesante del caso es la reflexión que suscita: ¿qué está mal o bien en el terreno sneakers? ¿Quién marca la norma de lo que es ir a la moda o ir desfasado? De hecho, si la historia de las zapatillas es una historia de éxito, lo es porque ha logrado conectar con el público más allá de la edad, sexo, raza o cualquier otra segmentación social. Es una historia “democrática”, llena de interrelaciones entre lo que el público demanda y lo que las marcas ofrecen.

De ahí que el año pasado el calzado streetwear aumentara sus ventas un 9% frente al 8,4% del calzado técnico, según los datos registrados por Euromonitor Internacional. Las zapatillas se ven en las pistas de skate y en los videoclips de Jay-Z y 50 Cent, pero también las llevan los políticos y los altos ejecutivos (recuérdese el look permanente de Steve Jobs). En la oficina, en el gimnasio, en el teatro y en el plató de televisión, las zapas se han hecho un hueco igual que en su momento lo hicieron los jeans.

Y va a ir a más.

Por eso, hablar de quién es el autor de una tendencia es un debate estéril.

Las marcas lo único que hacen es multiplicar sus radares para captar lo que ocurre de forma espontánea en la sociedad. Y los consumidores celebran que firmas como Nike, adidas, New Balance... se hagan eco de lo que ellos adoran. Por eso, el fenómeno de las ugly shoes entra dentro de la normalidad y no hace más que confirmar la primera regla de cualquier negocio: el cliente siempre tiene la razón.

Y con esta reflexión celebramos los diez primeros números de Sneakers Magazine, una revista dirigida principalmente al sector profesional y puntos “retail” con diversos contenidos disponibles en la web libremente.

Tienes también la opción de suscribirse a la versión impresa. Como sabes, esta es la única publicación dirigida al mundo sneakers editada en España y en Italia. ¡Nos volvemos a encontrar a finales de diciembre!

Nobody could be shocked whether brands get feed, when it comes to design its sneakers, by what is being done, seen or felt in streets. Therefore we can never know completely if trends are the reflection of what consumers wear, or big companies are responsible for the trends that are in fashion.

In recent times, they have been popularized even the so-called “ugly shoes” (or “father shoes”). These bulky and messy models have put upside down all footwear norms: what was before a sin of “lèse-label”, now is the latest trend for a lot of brands. Fortunately, we do not fall in such excesses since our catalog shows a casual and aesthetic line.

Nevertheless, what is interesting about this case is the following thought: what is wrong and what is correct in the realm of sneakers? Who decides the pattern of what means to be fashionable or out-of-style? Actually, if the history of sneakers is a history of success, it is for the connection with audience beyond age, sex, race or any other social segmentation. It is a “democratic” history, full of interrelations between what the public demands and what the brands offer.

Hence, in the last year streetwear footwear rose its sales a 9% in front of the 8,4% of technical footwear, according to the data registered by Euromonitor International. Sneakers are seen in skateparks and clips of Jay-Z and 50 Cent, but also in the foots of politicians and top executives (remember the permanent look of Steve Jobs). In the office, the gym, the theatre and the television studio, sneakers have get a foothold just as jeans did in past times.

And it will go further.

For this reason, talking about who is the author of a trend is a futile debate.

Brands have increased their radars to catch what is happening spontaneously in society. And consumers express gratitude because companies like Nike, adidas, New Balance... pay attention to what they love. At the end, the “ugly shoes” phenomenon is completely habitual and confirms the first rule of any business: the customer is always right.

And with this reflection, we celebrate the first ten issues of Sneakers Magazine, a magazine addressed principally to the professional sector and the retail points with different contents available in our website. You have also the option to subscribe to the print edition. As you know, this is the only publication published in Spain and Italy focused on the sneakers world. We meet again at the end of December!
