Letter From the Editor Dear Readers, Here we are again, folks! I am glad that you are taking the time to read our class online publication. Every student in my class contributed to this magazine in some way whether that be creating a page, designing a cover or formatting its contents. I am sure that all my students will appreciate that you have taken some time to check out their work! The overarching theme with this publication is the hero. This was a culminating project for our unit on Gilgamesh and ancient hero epics. Throughout this unit students were tasked with examining the heroic traits and hero’s journey of Gilgamesh and reflect on how these archetypes inspired our modern conception of a superhero. Additionally, students were tasked with researching some basic information about an assigned superhero and creating a page for this magazine that would allow them to make a connection between their assigned superhero and the heroic traits they may have. Students had to research the origin story, key story arcs and heroic traits for each superhero. After completing those sections, they had to reflect on why their hero was interesting and how it may connect thematically to the real world. Ultimately, the magazine came together nicely with students designing pages on every hero from Spider-Man (one of my favorites growing up) to the X-Men and Daredevil. Overall, we all hope you enjoy reading through our magazine and learning a thing or two about some of Marvel’s Superheroes. Now that superheroes have entered into mainstream popular culture, more people than ever are seeing how relatable these characters can be and how through these heroes, modern issues prevalent in our world can be explored, discussed and made relevant for this generation and onward. Plus, it’s just good, nerdy fun. ‘Nuff Said, John Spillman President/CEO Spillville Media Corporation

Hulk's Background Hulk’s story begins during world war 2 when a scientist named Bruce Banner is conducting an experiment with Gamma Radiation. As he is experimenting he is exposed to heavy amounts of the radiation. The large amount of radiation now causes him to become Hulk when he becomes angry. Hulk develops super strength when this happens, and his strength grows as he becomes angrier. Bruce is not hulk when he is happy. He becomes a superhero when he joins S.H.I.E.L.D, an organization heroes to go around and fight evil. Hulk joins the group as they tell him his strength would be useful for the team. He sees the good in his strength when a man named creel attacked him and Bruce becomes Hulk and wins the fight. This shows his bravery as well. Hulk realizes his strength is good for a hero.

Hulk Traits

When he becomes the Hulk he has several Heroic traits he shows. Hulk is brave because when he is attacked he is not afraid to fight back. Hulk is also very caring as he has becomes married to his love named Betty Ross. Hulk demonstrates his bravery when creel attacks him and decides to fight back to preserve his dignity. Hulk demonstrates his bravery in the movie called The Avengers when his is tasked along with his team to take down Thor’s evil brother Loki and he uses his power of durability to withstand the fighting his team endures. Hulk is also very courageous as he wants to strongest man on the opposing side since he is the strongest man on the team. He does this so none of the small team members will be hurt. He does this in The Avengers when he takes on Loki’s strongest man. Hulk shows his caring side when he marries his love Betty Ross in the 1978 tv episode titled The Incredible Hulk Married. These traits show me he not just a one feeling hero.

Hulk's Story Arcs The first story arc Hulk was in is the 2003 movie titled Hulk. In the movie is starts out when Bruce Banner is conducting the experiment with Gamma radiation and then is exposed to that heavy dose that alters his DNA. He learns shortly there after that he becomes the Hulk when he is angry. He is forced to learn to adapt with to new abilities so he does not accidentally become the Hulk. He is chased by the United States military because they think he is going to kill an innocent person. The last story arc I found to use is the 2012 film The Avengers. In the movie Hulk joins S.H.I.E.L.D an agency for heroes. The director of S.H.I.E.L.D named Thor asks Hulk and the other team members to go after after his evil brother Loki who is threatening to destroy earth. Hulk as he sees his strength and durability would come in useful. Hulk realizes it was good that he came as his skills are quickly needed. Hulk is relieved that he decided to go.

Why you should check Hulk out Hulk is important to our society as shows us how to be humble with a ability. He is also important to our society as much like the firefighters we know because they both lift heavy items. His is relevant outside of S.H.I.E.L.D because civilians see him as a really strong person good picking up heavy things for people. One theme he shows is never give up He shows this as he never gives up when is picked on for being green. Hulk also demonstrates the theme of never judge a book by his cover. He shows this when people think he is just angry and he shows he has a heart when he gets married. He also demonstrates how to be persistent. He does this when he tries to keep his anger down so the Hulk will not come out. All in all Hulk is an very round person with different feelings.

Iron Fist Danny Rand is your average spoiled little boy in a family that's in the one percent. When he was nine years old, him and his family were flying over the himalayan mountains and there plane crashes. He is the only survivor. He was found and lived in the K’unLun monastery. There he learned kung-fu, and trained in harsh places with abusive monks. Danny became the Iron Fist because he fights Shou-Lao the dragon to get the molten heart. That's how he got the dragon scar. He gets his super strength from concentrating on his chi and natural surroundings. The monks turned him into a living weapon.

Danny Rand is born into a rich family but it was not a noble birth. He does have supernatural help when focusing his chi, this creates his super strength. After he uses his super strength it leaves him feeling weak and exhausted for days or weeks, but the more he does it the stronger he gets. Danny struggles with fitting in the fast paced modern world, when he goes to claim his father's business. He feels like he cannot fulfill the responsibility of the Iron Fist. Danny hates being responsible for the lives of others and struggles with the fact that no one accepts him in modern New York City.

Iron Fist is a pretty okay hero. He is relatable when it comes to fitting in. Danny Rand comes back to New York City from K’un-Lun. He goes from modest, traditional, rudimentary, technology to Time Square. That would be a huge culture shock to anyone. In today's society if you are the slightest bit different or offbeat you are considered a freak or a Iron fist is in “The Defenders and luke cage”. Luke asks him to be apart of a superhero team. HAWKEYE HAWKEYE’S BACKGROUND The story of Hawkeye starts in Waverly, Iowa. That’s where Hawkeye, Clint Barton was born. For how young he was, his life was very tough. His parents had died in a car accident and him and his older brother Barney lived in an orphanage for six years. Eventually they got tired of that life and decided to run away to the Carson Carnival of Travelling Wonders. When they got there, Clint became an assistant for the Swordsman. Clint was trained by the Swordsman and Trick Shot to become a master archer. Everything was good, Clint would practice and become better and better until one day Clint caught the Swordsman stealing money from the carnival. Before he could even report it or tell anyone about what he saw he was beaten and left for dead. He no longer had Barney with him because he went to the army. Later on, Clint used the skills he learned in archery to become an act in the carnival. He was to become a master archer known as “Hawkeye”, also known as “The World’s Greatest Marksman.” ` He eventually left the carnival and became a member of two other circuses. That’s when he saw the one and only Iron Man in action. When he saw him he became inspired to become a hero just like him. So one day he went out and attempted to catch some bad guys but ended up being accused of theft and was seen as a criminal. While he was on the run he ran into the Soviet Union spy, Black Widow. He ended up falling in love with her and agreed to help her steal technology from Iron Man. But in one of their battles, Black Widow was severely hurt and Hawkeye left the battle to save her. She ended up convincing him to continue trying to fight crime using his archery skills because she knew that he was really good. He soon listened to her and devised a plan with a man named Edwin Jarvis that made it seem as if he were in trouble. That plan ended up getting him recruited to the Avengers just like he had hoped for. After that is what we know now. Besides having some conflicts along the way, he became a well known and loved hero by many.

HAWKEYE’S HEROIC TRAITS Do you want to know why Hawkeye is such a loved hero? That’s because of the many desirable traits he has. Let’s start off with the most obvious, he’s a great warrior. Ever since he was little, he was training to become a master archer. When he got older he put it to good use and now that’s what he’s known for. He can do all these crazy, nearly impossible stunts and tricks that never fail. He’s made a simple bow and arrow something so much bigger than what it is and now he can save people just by that. Another heroic trait he has is that he travels over vast settings. He doesn’t go for himself but for the safety of others. He puts his life at risk to travel to these places with the Avengers to save the world. Another trait is that he does deeds of great strength. That one’s also pretty obvious due to the fact that he’s a hero. But part of the deeds he does is that he fights superhumans. He fights villains and they usually have superpowers. Lastly, he is a national hero. Everyone knows of him because of all the accomplishments he has and all the good things he does for the people and world. Plus, he’s a part of a well known team, the Avengers who contain other heros that have been around for awhile. All of these traits are why people love him. He’s a very good hero who has an amazing amount of strength, skill, and his overall personality is very admirable.

STORYLINES HAWKEYE HAS APPEARED IN Hawkeye has appeared in many storylines but here are just a few he’s been in. Let’s start off with “West Coast Avengers.” He appeared in the West Coast Avengers series #1-4. This arc is about how Hawkeye becomes the founder of the West Coast Avengers. That was the first and most famous attempt at an Avengers “B-squad.” This was the first time he had ever been a leader for a team. He was quite successful though because they went on numerous adventures and the first villain they faced was Graviton who is one of the most powerful villains in the Marvel Universe. Another storyline he appears in is “The Day Death Died” which was featured in Avengers Annual #16. What happens is that the Avengers get captured by the Grandmaster and they are forced to fight an army of characters. They have to face villains such as; Green Goblin, Drax the Destroyer, and Captain Marvel. In the end of the fight, Captain America and Hawkeye are the only ones left standing. But believe it or not, Hawkeye challenged the Grandmaster to a wager and he cheated his way to victory. Who would’ve thought that Hawkeye’s wits were what would save the day. The last storyline is “The Old Order Changeth!” which was featured in Avengers #16. This storyline is what establishes Hawkeye’s personality. It talks about how all the original Avengers retired and the only one left is Captain America. So, he forms a new team composed of the former villains; Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, and Quicksilver. It shows Hawkeye’s personality and talks about how he has a rebellious attitude and friendly rivalry with Captain America. This is when we get to see who he really is and it makes you fall in love with his playful personality.

WHY YOU SHOULD CHECK OUT HAWKEYE Now you might be thinking, “Why should I check out Hawkeye? He’s like any other superhero.” Well yes, he is like any other superhero but his personality and his skills make him stand out. He’s one of the superheroes who wasn’t born with powers. He doesn’t have a special advantage. He was training since he was little and now he’s this hero who designs his own arrows to blow up with the press of a button. But besides his skills, his personality also shines. He’s not serious all the time like some are. He’s actually quite funny and witty. You can also tell how loving and determined he is when it comes to his team and the people he has to save. I personally like him because of all the cool things he can do with his bow and arrow and how he’s so skilled with it and how he knows the perfect time of when to shoot. I also like how he’s funny. When superheroes have a sort of outgoing personality, it makes me like them even more because it goes to show that not all heroes have to be serious and perfect. I think Hawkeye is relevant to our world because it shows that even the people who suffer from bad things and times can be something so great. Hawkeye had a difficult childhood and when he finally realized what he wanted to do with his archery, he didn’t let anything stop him. He was going to keep on trying. Some heroes are gifted with the ability to have such powers and others have to work extremely hard for what they want and that can also relate to our world. Dedication is something that is strongly shown and that’s how I can personally connect with Hawkeye.

PROFESSOR X

Traits Professor X has the heroic traits of deeds of great strength and courage, a great warrior, national heroism, and humility. Professor X is a really good example of a hero because he has multiple heroic traits. Professor X has the heroic trait deeds of great strength because he did the great deed of creating a school to help other people for peace. He has the heroic trait of being a great warrior because he was able to fight in the Korean War and got good war knowledge through it. He has national heroism from the fact that the X-men celebrate him in their home and look at him as a legend. Lastly, he has the heroic trait of humility because he is not conceited and he helps other people (by creating the school) and he feels it necessary to himself to have peace.

Background Professor X got his power at birth because he is a mutant. He became a hero because he started a school for mutants were he could train them and achieve his dream of getting peace between mutants and humans. When Professor X was a young boy his father died and his mother married the fathers best friend (Dr. Marko) to take care of the money and Xavier. Dr Marko already had a son whose name was Cain. Professor X started to discover his powers of telepathy and Cain became jealous. During the Korean War, Cain and Professor X entered a cave and found a gem that morphed Cain. The X men (the people professor X trains) will soon have to fight and defeat the brother.

Key Story Arcs The three most important arcs are the Marvel X- Men comics, the X-Men movie series, and the Deadpool movies. The issue that occurred in each story arc is that the X men or the people working with Professor X needed to be trained to be able to fight and keep the peace between the mutants and humans. In the comic books of X-men, Professor X has to train them to be able to fight the other people They fight for peace and equality between normal humans and mutants. Professor X trains them by taking the mutants to a school which he has created called the XMansion. In each of the comics, the X-Men are fighting to achieve peace, and Professor X is able to be the leader. In the X-Men movie series, it is basically the same as the comics just in movie form. Professor X is still trying to teach peace through his school. The X-Men are trained to fight for peace and equality, with the guidance of Professor X. In the Deadpool movie series Professor X was just the inspiration behind the X-men who worked with Deadpool to maintain peace. They had to defeat the people who committed wrong doing cause they were negatively impacting people's lives. Why you should check him out You should check Professor X out because he actually really cool and can teach you a lot. Professor X is one of the most powerful mutants and a good mentor as we can tell from the story arcs. Professor X is relevant to the real world because he wants peace and he tries to help younger mutants who don't understand be able to. For example, a teacher nowadays they help benefit us in ways we don’t understand. I like Professor X overall because he is a very positive Additional Resources mentor and wants to create peace. I https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jREXTIk2E4E http://www.marveldirectory.com/individuals/p/professo also like him because he always gets through his battles. rx.htm

WHAT IS SPIDER-MAN REALLY LIKE?

SPIDER-MAN With Good Power becomes good responsibility. -Spider-man

Who is Spider-man? Spider-Man is Peter Parker a normal kid that lives in New York City. At a young age his parents died in a plane crash while they were on a secret mission. His uncle Ben and Aunt may raised him since he was six. Peter was a smart boy who loved science and was in love with Gwen Stacy. When Peter Parker was at the science field trip he was bit by a radioactive spider that cause him to have webs that came from his wrist and lots of fearless power.

Spider-Mans Best Work

Spider-man is selfless, caring and brave. He always puts others before him no matter the situation even if he might end up being revealed, all he cared about was that the town was safe. He cares about the whole town he puts away all the dislike he has for people as peter and does whatever it takes to save the people. Spider-man is very intelligent and he has super strength, speed and durability. He can cling to walls and buildings and swing from his web. Spiderman shoots webs out of his wrists to swing and he uses it to capture people. He uses his strength in good ways to help the community, he doesn’t want to cause harm but he will do anything that will help for the good. He uses his speed to get to the crime as quick as possible and to jump from building to building, he clings to walls to make sneak attacks and to climb. Spider-man is always for the good and he keeps it a secret so nobody will go after his close friends and family.

The most popular story arc is “The night Gwen Stacy died” Gwen Stacy was Spiderman’s crush all through school and now girlfriend but the green goblin went after Gwen and threw her off a building but when Spider-man caught her she was already dead. This was the night that the Green Goblin captured Gwen and led spider-man to a tower to watch her die and spiderman did everything to save her but he couldn’t. The second most important story arc is “Kraven's Last Hunt”, Kraven was going after spider-man to kill him. He caught Spider-man and Spider-man did everything he could but could not get him away. Kraven kills spiderman and buried him and stole his identity. Kraven wasn’t able to get away with being Spider-man because he didn’t have the powers.

The third most popular story arc is “If this be my destiny” Peter Parker attends his first day at Empire State University where he met Harry to Gwen. His aunt May is suffering a mysterious lifethreatening disease. While doing all of Spider-man’s things and school is tough but with his aunt May sick is even worse, May is really important to Peter and he doesn’t want anything to happen to her.

What was learned from these experiences? During “The night Gwen Stacy died” that experience Spider-man learned heartbreaks are hard and it takes a lot of strength to get through them. He had a hard time but learned how to deal with it. During “Kraven’s last hunt” kraven learned that you can’t be who your not when he stole spider-man’s identity but couldn’t pull it off. During “If this be my destiny” Spider-man realizes who he really is and how his life is going to play out.

"I AM NOTHING WITHOUT THE SUITE." -SPIDERMAN

How does Spider-man relate to the real world?

Spider-Man is actually Peter Parker and works just like everyone else but he makes everything work while saving lives and making money. He has a family with some problems just like everyone else and is making the news as a superhero while he was just a regular person in a costume. Spider-man is a hero to the town, everyone knows if something is wrong or someone is in danger that Spiderman will be there.

She-Hulk Origins Jennifer Walters was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She was the daughter of Sheriff Morris Walters and Elaine Banner-Walters. Growing up she was meek and mousy and had little confidence. Jen later attended UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) where she gained her law degree. She began working as a lawyer in Los Angeles. Jen was the also the cousin of Bruce Banner, whose house Jen used to visit during the summers of her childhood. To help him escape from his father's abuse, Jennifer and Bruce would spend hours in a public library, reading books to each other, and sometimes hiding at closing time to spend the night.

08

12

Jennifer obtained her powers through a gamma-irradiated blood infusion from her cousin, Bruce. After she got the blood infusion, she was sent to the local hospital, and after Trask’s thugs tried to attack her in the hospital, it activated the gamma radiated particles in the blood, turning her skin green, and making her over 6 feet tall. She only got a mild condition of what her cousin Bruce had though, when she would turn into her Hulk form, she would keep her personality and her passion for justice, being a lawyer, while also having the superhuman strength of Bruce.

Heroic Traits

She has many of the heroic 31 traits that other heros have such as: Deeds of great strength; Supernatural help; Travels across a vast setting; Great warrior; and Humility. She gets all of these traits throughout her adventures in the comics, building her character. She does the deeds of great strength while helping others, or fighting alongside the Avengers. She gets her supernatural help from her cousin Bruce, him giving her a blood transfer containing some of his “Hulk D.N.A.”, and she turns into the She-Hulk after the nurses at the hospital use gamma radiation, activating the “Hulk D.N.A.”. She travels across a vast setting during her adventures with the Avengers, and also when she becomes the fifth member of the Fantastic Four. She is a great warrior for obvious reasons, fighting against Thanos with the Avengers. Her humility comes from her background, being a student at UCLA, and being an attorney after she got out of college. Also, she keeps her humility when she turns into her Hulk form, only50 having a mild condition compared to her cousin, keeping her personality, and being able to think for herself.

She-Hulk Popular Stories Her most famous story is definitely Marvel Graphic Novel #18: “The Sensational She Hulk”. During a date with her boyfriend Wyatt Wingfoot, She-Hulk is captured by S.H.I.E.L.D. agents using Mandroid Armor to make sure she won't change into her She-Hulk form. The pair are taken to the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, and after a search ordered by an agent, she and Wyatt are imprisoned in a pressure cell designed to contain her She-Hulk form. S.H.I.E.L.D. thought that she would not be able to change back into her normal, much smaller, Jennifer Walters form, and by transforming into that form she slips through the cell bars while Wyatt bears the extra weight pressure and frees them. S.H.I.E.L.D.'s plan continues to go wrong when the Helicarrier is taken over by a horde of sentient roaches that are able to take over the bodies of human hosts. The Helicarrier goes down, and to the whole thing from blowing up, She-Hulk is exposed to a heavy dose of radiation that prevents her from changing into Jennifer Walters 08ever again. 12 Her second-most famous story is She Hulk #4: “Web of Lies”, in which Pug and Jen convince Spider-Man to sue J. Jonah Jameson (and the Daily Bugle) for libel. At trial, they call John Jameson, Betty Brant, Robbie Robertson, and more as witnesses to testify to Jonah’s history of printing lies about Spider-Man in the Bugle. After a brief interruption by the Scorpion, Pug calls Peter Parker to the stand, and after a few questions, announces that he’s adding Parker as a defendant in the case. The next morning, Spider-Man tells Pug and Jen that he wants to settle, and instead of asking for money, he merely asks that Jonah and Peter have to hand out apologies in public, while dressed in chicken suits.

Why You Should Check Her Out 31

I like the overall character because I think that you always need some sort of strong female character in comics and shows to try to counterbalance the amount of strong male characters, along with giving some of your female fans a role model, or someone to relate to. She also has a somewhat relatable background, Jennifer Walters came from a normal family, went to UCLA, and became a lawyer. Her life was a little lackluster — partly because of her problems with self-confidence. She was unassuming, a little anti-social, and not very happy. Sounds a little like a normal life… but that’s the exact opposite of the kind of lives we imagine superheroes having.

50

One theme that is presented in the newer issues of She-Hulk, now deemed “Hulk” (since Bruce Banner was killed in Civil War II), is that anger can serve a purpose. She is angry that her cousin was killed, and angry that the people that she saves are scared of her, but she uses this anger for the better, using it to fuel her to help more and more people.

Ghost Rider Background

The story of Ghost Rider begins with Johnny Blaze. Johnny met a girl named Roxanne and planned on “running away with her. However, his dad became ill with cancer, and he felt guilty about leaving him. So, he made a deal with satan to trade his soul for his father’s health; the side effect being that at night his flesh begins to burn with a blazing hellfire, giving him the appearance of a burning skeleton. His father gave him his motorcycle, which burns when he rides it. Later on, Johnny Blaze is replaced with Danny Ketch. His story started when him and his sister were walking in a cemetery and were attacked by the ninjas of Deathwatch. His sister Barbara died, but Danny found a motorcycle that was enchanted with the spirit of vengeance and turned him into the Ghost Rider. The newest Ghost Rider is Robbie Reyes, who, like Danny Ketch, gained his powers from the vehicle itself. He was gunned down by a gang, but is then resurrected into the Ghost Rider. Before this, he was just trying to support his younger brothers and get out of the city by working as a mechanic to earn money. After finding out about the spirit that possess the muscle car, he spends his time fighting crime and gangs in East Los Angeles.

"Look into my eyes. Your soul is stained by the blood of the innocent. Feel their pain!"

Heroic Traits

All of the different Ghost Riders all have the same general heroic traits. They all have humble origins and remain this way throughout their stories. Before they get turned into Ghost Rider, they are normal people that are trying to survive through a difficult time in their lives. Johnny Blaze is trying to save his dad, Danny Ketch just wants to avenge his sister and stop crime, and finally, Robbie just wants to provide for his brothers and get out of the city before he became the Ghost Rider. Moving on, they all possess great strength and courage throughout their stories. They all devote their time and power to fight crime like gangs and criminals, as well as evil villains like Lilith. Danny Ketch even teamed up with other heroes to take down Lilith. Finally, all of the Ghost Riders do deeds of great strength. They answer distress calls from citizens in danger. They prevent the further spread of evil, as well as corruption and gang violence. However, their main goal most of the time is to take down Lilith, who is the embodiment of evil, and in Jewish writings is a dangerous demon of the night.

Story Arc #1

Check Him Out

You should check out Ghost Rider, and all three of the individuals that became Ghost Rider, because they portray the theme of courage and perseverance. All of them have had to go through a rough and critical time in their lives that inspires the reader with confidence and enthrallment. One could learn a lot about the values of right and wrong in the world through these series. I personally like Ghost Rider because he appeals to the human and superhuman nature of people. I can relate to him when he goes through a tough time in his life. Like when Johnny Blaze’s father was sick, or Robbie Reyes trying to support his brothers and try to give them a safe and prosperous future. He also appeals to my sense of justice as I feel that criminals and outlaws shouldn’t be able to get away with terrorizing and stealing from helpless individuals.

Ghost Rider (1990), 1st Issue - Danny Ketch replaces Johnny Blaze as the Ghost Rider. Him and his sister, Barbara, encounter the ninjas of Deathwatch on their stroll towards the cemetery. Barbara dies, but Danny comes into contact with a motorcycle and turns into the new Ghost Rider. A lot of the series recurring villains are introduced in this series, and Danny Ketch is founded as the basis for all Ghost Riders; this is the most iconic.

Story Arc #2

Midnight Sons Unlimited, 1st-9th Issues - Ghost Rider, Blade, Doctor Strange, and Morbius team up to fight Lilith, the mother of all demons. She was being resurrected and planned on using her children, the Lilin, to take over the earth. They also defended earth from Blade, which turned into Switchblade and possessed the weapons of the people that he killed. This is one of Marvels highest earning comic series ever written.

Story Arc #3

All New Ghost Rider, 1st-Present Issues - Robbie Reyes is trying to save up money from working as a mechanic to get him and his brothers out of the dangerous city that they’re in. He then is gunned down while trying to retrieve pills out of the back of an old muscle car. He is resurrected as a demonic figure, Ghost Rider. He then goes around ridding the city of gangs and crime to avenge the spirit that is entrapped in the muscle car.

SILVER SURFER

Why you should check them out SCI BUZZ >

My hero is important in the context of real life because he sacrifices something for the benefit of others. In the real world, not many people would give up something they care about just to help another person out. It shows a person’s ability to care for his fellow man when he gives up something for the well being of another and that aspect is shown in Silver Surfer. He fights for the good of others without benefiting himself and only wants what is best for others without regard of his own well being.

Key Story Arc

Fantastic Four Issue #50-This comic ends the Silver Surfer Saga within Fantastic Four and brings a stop to Galactus’ terror. Silver Surfer finally agrees to lash out against his master and attacks him to save the Fantastic Four. Reed Richards threatens to use the ultimate nullifier on Galactus unless he leaves the Earth peacefully. Galactus agrees but before going he banishes the Surfer to be stuck on Earth forever.

Why you should check them out cont. Many key themes for the Silver Surfer are based around his travel throughout the cosmos and his epic battles that go on throughout the marvel timelines. These two things create a really cool comic to read in which you get amazing visuals and great storylines to read about across the Marvel universe. Another key theme could be his compassion that he gains along his journey with the Fantastic Four. He learns to love the humans he would once have destroyed by Galactus and gives up his power to travel through the cosmos just to save others lives.

Black Panther Hero's Background T’Challa obtained his powers by eating a heart-shaped herb, which gave him the abilities of the Black Panther. T’Challa became the Black Panther when his father was murdered and passed the power down to his son. T'Challa is the son of T'Chaka, late king of the African nation Wakanda. Klaw murdered T'Chaka in an attempt to possess the country's rare Vibranium. T'Challa swore vengeance and succeeded in thwarting the butcher's raid. In the process, the young prince destroyed Klaw's hand. Educated at the finest schools in Europe and America, T'Challa returned to his homeland bearing a degree in physics and ready for leadership. To do so required he pass two tests: defeat six of Wakanda's greatest warriors in unarmed combat, and obtain the secret heart-shaped herb that grants the country's chieftains their powers. Successfully carrying out the dual challenge, T'Challa donned the ceremonial garb of the Black Panther, the totem of the Wakandan people. Under T'Challa, Wakanda has become one of the wealthiest and most technologically advanced nations on the planet. After meeting Captain America, the Panther was offered membership in the Avengers. T’Challa served among Earth's Mightiest Heroes for a lengthy interval, acquainting himself with American methods of crime fighting. During his time with the Avengers, he met the love of his life: social worker Monica Lynne. Inevitably, T'Challa returned to Wakanda, finding his country at war. The Panther subdued an uprising led by Killmonger, a revolutionary intent on assuming the throne. After regaining his people's respect, the Panther worked to bring his country out of isolation from the rest of the world.

Heroic Traits The first of the heroic traits that Black Panther has is a noble birth, his father was the king of Wakanda and when he passed T’Challa became king. The second heroic trait T’Challa expresses is a deed of great strength and courage. He expresses this when he goes out and fights villains to solve a specific issue that Wakanda is facing. The third of these traits that T’Challa expresses is a great warrior. He expresses this when he is resurrected and fights Killmonger for the power over Wakanda and achieves his goal. The fourth of these traits that T’Challa expresses is he travels over a vast setting. He does this when he travels with Little to acquire King Solomon’s frog which is a time machine. The fifth heroic trait is National heroism. T’Challa expresses this when travels to a vast setting to save the people of Wakanda. The sixth trait that he expresses is humility. T’Challa expresses this when he opened the Wakandan border to allow others to use Wakandan technology. The last heroic trait that T’Challa expresses it supernatural help. T’Challa has supernatural help when he gets help from the Panther goddess who gave his the magical herb to obtain his superhuman powers.

Key Story Arcs One of the story arcs that Black Panther is in is Fantastic Four issue number fifty-two. The story arc is about how The fantastic four are given a flying craft by the wakandans. They then contact T’Challa. The people rejoice and praise T’Challa and he does his ceremonial Black Panther garb. The Fantastic Four go check on Johnny at school. When Johnny is told he is going to Wakanada he asks if Wyatt Wingfoot can come. While in Wakanda the royal family tries to break through the barrier around their city. Karnak tries to use his powers to find a way to break the barrier. Later the fantastic four and Wyatt fly to Wakanda, they find themselves in a mechanical forest when they land. Once off the ship, they are attacked by the Black Panther. Together they overpower the Black Panther. T’Challa reveals that the attack was a test and he needs the fantastic four to his land to for a grave task. The next story arc that the Black Panther is part of is Jungle Action issue number six. In this comic T’Challa returns to Wakanda to see that Killmonger is threatening Wakanda. Killmonger ravaged villages to get the Black Panther’s attention. However, when T’challa confronts him Killmonger dismisses him, having T’challa fight with his leopard prey. When T’challa snaps the leopard’s jaw Killmonger finishes off T’Challa and throws him over a waterfall. The last story arc that Black Panther is part of is Black Panther issue number one. In this comic Abnor Little tells Black Panther about King Solomon’s frog. Black Panther had no interest until Little told him that his grandfather once possessed the frog. Together they track the frog down to Queely’s house. When they arrive Queely is dead in his chair holding the frog. An Aztec warrior jumps out and attacks them, but is defeated and runs into the woods. Little explains that the frog is a time machine. Little wants the Black Panther to help find the frog’s control codes in Solomon’s tomb. Black Panther questions Little but then agrees. Together they get on a special helicopter. Princess Zanda sends flying men to collect frog. However, they fail and Little lands at his island. The princess is already there to capture Black Panther. Little is shot and Black Panther tries to take the frog from the princess, but one of her men shoots the frog and brings a man from six million years in the future to their time era.

Why You Should Check Out Black Panther Some interesting themes that go along with Black Panther are that the story is related to the political events that are occurring in our world. Another theme that is present is that you don’t always have to be violent. T’Challa shows this when he tries to find a way to protect his kingdom without hurting anyone. The Black Panther Comics were first published after the civil rights movement and portrays the first black hero. I like the Black Panther because he is a hero that doesn’t brag about himself and is always helping others. Another reason I like Black Panther is that he tries to keep the peace in any way he can.

Hero's Background In the new MCU, Wanda Maximoff, otherwise known as Scarlet Witch, is one of the most powerful avengers. Originally she and her twin brother were considered villains. When they were kids, their house in the country Sokovia was bombed by tech that was made by Tony Stark. Their parents were killed, and they were forced to wait until someone could help them get out of range of a bomb that landed beside them, and never detonated. This led to an extreme hatred toward Stark, the West, and the Avengers. After a few years Wanda and Pietro volunteered themselves for a Hydra scientific experiment. While the other test subjects could not withstand the energy given off from the Mind Stone, Wanda and her twin survived. This led to enhanced powers; superspeed for Pietro, and telekinetic, energy manipulative, and mind controlling abilities for Wanda. With these new powers the twins fought by the side of Ultron, who promised them the death of the Avengers. They proved to be quite the match for the Captain America’s team when Wanda used her mind controlling powers to force the team to relive their worst memories, and sending some of them into what appeared to be a fantasy, wrapped in allusion. Right before it was too late, Wanda read Ultron’s mind, and discovered his true plan, to remake the world, and force it to ‘evolve’. The twins then turned on Ultron and fought side by side the Avengers, saving the world, but unable to save their home. While she started her new life on the side of selfish intentions, Wanda soon answered the call to light in her heart and fought in the next two movies for other people who needed protection, and for the good of humanity. Scarlet Witch is still unsure of what all she is, but she now knows deep down, she has a desire to save and protect humanity.

PAGE FOUR| JOURNEY

Heroic Traits Throughout Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, and Avengers: Infinity War, Scarlet Witch shows off incredible power, bravery, strength, and compassion. However, when you look at the heroic traits that she possesses, she is not a typical hero. Wanda does not have a noble birth, and she does not have any form of national heroism because most people are afraid of her after the events of Captain America: Civil War. But, she does have a sense of humility, she does fight Ultron, she does fend off Thanos incredibly well, and the magnitude of her actions are beyond what a mere person could do. She proves her strength countless times, and she establishes herself in combat, by defeating major enemies of the Avengers, and helping aid in the defense of Wakanda in Avengers: Infinity War Part 1. When Wanda first gained her powers from the Mind Stone, she was only fighting for her dark side. Promised revenge, she didn’t let morals stop her from helping a source of evil gain a foothold and defeat the avengers several times. But in her heart she knew that those actions were wrong. It pained her to fight against good. Wanda turned to the Avengers, still unsure of her destiny. She fell in love, and hoped that this is where she was supposed to be. But she always had her doubts. The most important thing to draw from this is her newfound sense of humility. The Scarlet Witch believed in putting others before herself, and having the freedom to choose where the team thought they should be. While other Avengers, and most of humanity was afraid of her, she still wanted the freedom to choose, and the freedom to help wherever someone needed it.

Scarlet Witch

Story Arcs The Wanda Maximoff of the new MCU has appeared in 4 movies, and altogether 3 story arcs. The first of these being Avengers: Age of Ultron. In this movie, we first see Wanda and her brother protesting the Avengers in their home of Sokovia. We learned earlier from the end credit scene of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, that Wanda and her twin Pietro had unnatural powers. Pietro having superspeed, and Wanda having a variety of energy manipulation, and alteration powers. This is because they chose to become Hydra test subjects, and to have the mind stone used on them to see if they would be able to withstand its power. When the Avengers deploy to stop the notorious Hydra doctor, Baron Von Strucker, they come across two individuals that they name ‘enhanced’. Captain America immediately warns his team about the twins, and the danger they pose. Soon Strucker was assassinated by Ultron, the new peacemaking program developed by Tony Stark. Wanda and Pietro fall under him, and begin to fight the avengers and protect Ultron from them while he perfects his plans. Later, Wanda uses her powers to find that Ultron lied to them, and instead of killing the avengers, he was planning on reshaping the world. Wanda and Pietro turned against Ultron and helped save the world, using their powers to defeat Ultron’s pawns. Although they were successful, Pietro died leaving Wanda deeply scarred. The next story arc is Captain America: Civil War. In the beginning of this story, Wanda is fighting with the avengers as an honorary new member, learning to fulfill the gap in her heart with a desire to do good. When Wanda is forced to contain an explosion that would have killed Captain America, and several other avengers, she forces it into a building to avoid the casualties, but it still kills several people. This leads the world to gain a new sense of hesitance towards Scarlet Witch. Some people think that she shouldn’t be allowed to use her powers openly and is too dangerous even for the avengers. While her motivation for the good of other people, and her loyalty to Captain America drive her to keep fighting, and to not let anyone’s views of her affect her too deeply. Her latest story arc is Avengers: Infinity War. In the beginning, Vision and Wanda are on the run, and enjoying their time together as a couple. But when they are attacked, Wanda is forced to fight once again, and is brought right back into the middle of the fire. She and Vision escape with the help of the rogue Captain America and his team. Throughout this movie, all Wanda wishes to do is to save Vision and protect him, while protecting everyone else she can. When she arrives in Wakanda to prepare for the coming battle, she displays the most of her power that we have seen yet. Wanda doesn’t truly know her limits, but she hasn’t reached them yet. Defeating several hundred of Thanos’ children at once, and defeating the evil Proxima Midnight, Scarlet Witch rushes to help Vision. Although he knows that there is only one way to stop Thanos from gaining the last stone, Wanda refuses. To kill her beloved, would mean killing herself. With so much pain in her life already, she wouldn’t be able to handle it. But she does in fact begin to destroy Vision, as he begs her to. In this part of the story Wanda is able to destroy an Infinity Stone, with one hand, and fend off a five Infinity Stone strong Thanos for a good amount of time. Even here she has not displayed all of her power. But because of the Time Stone, Thanos is able to turn back time and retrieve the stone before Wanda is able to destroy it. This causes Vision to die in Wanda’s arms, and Wanda to fade away in utter defeat and sorrow.

PAGE FOUR| JOURNEY

Why you should check them? Without a doubt, Scarlet Witch is one of the most powerful avengers. She has been my personal favorite since Avengers: Age of Ultron. While she is meant to be young, almost our age, she walks and fights with maturity, and confidence like someone much older. Already so early on in her life she has faced more than almost any other superhero or regular person alike. If we look at how much she can do in a broad perspective, she is one of the most capable of the avengers. Not truly knowing how far she can go or what all she can do, she held back a five infinity stone strong Thanos, with one hand, while using the other to generate enough energy to destroy the mind stone.

I think that she relates to the world personally through sacrifice. Wanda has lived through sacrifice the whole time we have known her. From watching her brother sacrifice himself, to allowing herself to be captured to save Captain America, to being forced to kill the love of her life to save the world. She has learned what true sacrifice is, and was willing to sacrifice it all in Infinity War. She has grown tremendously since Age of Ultron, and has flaunted a beautiful character development. From realizing her powers weren’t a bad thing and that she wasn’t evil, to saving hundreds, thousands, and the world on several occasions, she has embraced her differences. She knows what people think about her, yet it doesn’t stop her from doing what she believes is right. I’m not sure how Avengers 4 will turn out, but it has already been confirmed that Wanda will be back, and after her extremely painful to watch death, I’m ready to see her kick some purple butt. With the help of Captain Marvel, Thor, and Doctor Strange, we will hopefully get to see the real Wanda once more.

HUMAN TORCH BACKGROUND His name is Jonathan Storm, he’s one of two children from a physician and his wife. His mom died when he was nine, which sent him into a spiral. He lived with his dad until he moved to California with his sister, who was hoping to marry her engineer boyfriend, Reed Richards. Richards was in the middle of designing a starship to explore other Solar Systems, but when the government cut his funding he decided to take it up anyway. Johnny and his sister insisted on going with him, so he let them, along with his friend Benjamin Grimm who was going to pilot the ship. But while onboard the ship encountered a serious amount of radiation, affecting everyone on the ship. They eventually made their way home, but after landing he discovered that the radiation affected his whole body, he had abilities no one has heard of before, eventually joining the Fantastic Four by the name Human Torch.

HEROIC TRAITS Human Torch has many heroic traits, but so do all heros. He and his team (the fantastic four) put others safety, before themselves. Reed Richards made this team to protect people from all things evil. Human Torch’s powers consist of igniting himself on fire, shooting fire, controlling fire, basically anything with fire. He can also fly, which is a huge bonus to his powers. So his abilities are very interesting and useful when it comes to fighting evil.

STORY ARCS Human Torch isn’t one of those heroes that has a noble birth, he was born from everyday parents and his mom died when he was 9. He has many deeds of great courage for instance, he joined an elite group of heroes called the Fantastic Four. Human Torch is a great warrior, he has been involved in many battles and has proved himself in combat. He goes on a vast journey through the galaxy, that’s where he obtains his powers. He proves himself useful to the Fantastic Four with his crazy abilities he was given by the intense amount of radiation. Human Torch has humility, he helps people just to help. He doesn’t do it to receive praise or anything. He and the Fantastic Four battle’s many villains including, galactus, Klaw. Maximus the mad, and many many more.

STORY ARCS CONTINUED... “Flesh and Stone” is a story arc that helps introduce the characters and their backgrounds. It tells you about Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), Sue Storm (Invisible Woman), Johnny Storm (Human Torch), and Ben Grimm (The Thing). This has a 5 part series added onto it because so many people loved it. It involved the Fantastic Four facing the following villains, Diablo, the Skrulls and Grey Gargoyle.

Another version of the Fantastic Four involves the downfall of their great team. It all starts when Johnny Storm loses his powers, leaving the team to acquire previous members of the group to help defeat one of their greatest challenges yet. Ant-Man, She-Hulk and Miss Thing are the heroes that came to help. That story was called “The fall of the Fantastic Four” and there have been many sequels written, but their not really important to the heroes or the enemies they face.

WHY SHOULD YOU CHECK THEM OUT? You should checkout Human Torch because he isn’t talked about enough. His abilities are super cool and you can find a very interesting synopsis on him. If you don’t want to just look him up, look up his whole team. There is a lot you can find about the Fantastic Four, there are comic books, movies, websites, ect. People can relate to him by feeling like an outsider. When his mom died when he was 9, he was lost and didn’t think a lot. But he moved with his sister and eventually gained crazy powers. Now he is in an elite group of heroes protecting people just for the good of it.

Without Human Torch, the Fantastic Four wouldn’t have much help. Obviously they would still save people, but without him, a big part of their team would be missing. He helps make the team what they are, if they were missing him even their name would change, and the Fantastic Three doesn’t sound as good.

DEADPOOL Hero Background: Deadpool, also known as the “merc with the mouth”, is a marvel anti-hero that has had many different comic, book, and movie adaptations. However, his backstory seems to be consistent in that he was diagnosed with terminal cancer and decided to go through experimental treatment which was incredibly painful and almost torture, which would give him his regenerative powers. He also has superhuman stamina, strength, agility, and reflexes that allows him to be the vigilante that he becomes. In his two stand alone movies, his motivations for becoming a hero is fueled by revenge against the people that did him wrong and also to win the heart of the woman he loved. He also just took pleasure in what he did, which was killing people. However, in his initial big screen appearance he couldn’t even speak and his powers were way beyond his normal powers. Most people hated this adaptation and in his second movie he went back in time and killed that version of himself. Deadpool: Wade Wilson is a former Special Forces operative

Deadpool 2: After his wife is killed, Deadpool joins up with the X-Men as a coping mechanism. Shortly after he cancer he undergoes experimental treatment which turns out is sent to try to control an out of control mutant at an orphanage but that mutant is soon targeted by Cable to be a human experiment by a man named Ajax. The rogue which turns the situation into a dire one. He joins up experiment leaves Deadpool with superhuman healing with many other X-Men operatives and with their capabilities and strength. With help from mutant allies combined capabilities they are able to overcome Cable and save the young mutant. Towards the end of the Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead , Deadpool uses movie he uses time travel to save his wife before she is his new skills to hunt down the man who nearly destroyed his killed and also kills Deadpool from X-Men Origins: life. While doing this he is also trying to get his wife back that Wolverine and kills Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern. he left when he got his diagnosis, he would get her back at

the end of the movie

DEADPOOL Heroic Traits: Deadpool does not have many heroic traits, in fact he only has three, if I’m being generous. I would say his heroic traits are deeds of great strength, great warrior, and humility, but only to a certain few people. He has deeds of great strength because of his mutated body and how it made him more powerful. He is a great warrior because of his strength, stamina, heightened reflexes, and increased agility. He has humility towards the woman he loves and somewhat towards his “friends” but not really, to everyone else he’s just very unpleasant. He also has superhuman allies and foes, such as Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead. Deadpool does not have a noble birth, national heroism, he doesn’t travel over a vast setting. Until he was experimented on, Wade Wilson was just a normal person with a normal birth and isn’t a very well known figure so he doesn’t have national heroism. After he becomes Deadpool he stays in a relatively small area but it could be argued that he really did travel a lot but I don’t think it was enough to consider it a vast setting. I believe you should check out Deadpool because he is a funny character that isn't really meant to be taken

very seriously. He is constructed to always make you laugh no matter how immature or random the humor is. However, his character is deeper than this as he has a very sad backstory and very troubling life in the way that he had terminal cancer and left his wife so she wouldn't have to watch him die a slow and painful death. Then he was experimented on and mutated by his torturer Ajax, which left him scarred and deformed but he was then invincible. It shows that everyone at the end of the day is just a person with a story and motivations. He shows that even when the world is against you that there is still some good left out there.

Frank Castle was an ex-marine man. He had a nice family with two gorgeous children. One day his family was in a mobbing and his whole family was killed. Sadly for the mobber, he didn’t kill Frank. Frank is known as The Punisher because he kills the people that associate with the person that killed his family. The person that killed his family had a trial, he was found not guilty. Frank spend the rest of his life trying to find the man that killed his lovely family. PAGE THREE | JOURNEY

Some heroic traits that The Punisher has is, he is very brave when it comes to killing people. The best trait that he has is being able to understand that what he’s doing is wrong. He realizes that the only justice his family is going to get is the justice that he gets for them. The judge that convicted the person who killed his family not guilty didn’t give his family justice. I feel as if he didn’t get his family justice then they would’ve died in vain and he didn’t want that to happen. The person that killed his family should be punished for what he did. Another heroic trait that The Punisher has is, he can always finds a way to kill people to make them suffer. I feel as if this counts as a heroic trait because the people he kills has made him suffer his entire life after they killed his family.

The Wolverine By: Makenzi M.

Hero's Background Logan got his powers by being pumped full of Thorazine. In the process of getting his powers the men who gave him the powers beat him, and tortured him in many ways. They did this to see if the tests worked. Someone found out that he was pumped full of that stuff, they captured him and decided to do more experiments on him. They put him in a tank and strapped him down, they filled the tank with a blue liquid and Heroic Traits Logan has unstable healing powers and metal claws. No nonsense attitude, he is one of the most ferocious heros of all time. He is also known for his temper and his attitude towards things. He starts off as more of a bad guy furious that the people have gotten away with everything they have done to him. But more into the movie he learns that it’s important to use his powers for more mainly when he meets this little girl she is arguably the thing that saves him. Key Story Arch's The three most popular movies he appears in is, X-men (2000), X-men the last stand (2006), The Wolverine (2013). X-men (2000) is about The film focuses on mutants Wolverine and Rogue as they are brought into a conflict between two groups that have radically different approaches to bringing about the acceptance of mutant-kind: Professor Xavier's X-Men, and the Brotherhood of Mutants, led by Magneto. X-men the last stand (2006) is about The film's script is loosely based on two X-Men comic book story arcs: "The Dark Phoenix Saga" by writer Chris Claremont and artist John Byrne, and "Gifted" by writer Joss Whedon and artist John Cassaday, with a plot that revolves around a "mutant cure" that causes serious repercussions among mutants and humans, and on the resurrection of Jean Grey. The Wolverine (2013) is about In the film, which follows the events of XMen: The Last Stand, Logan travels to Japan, where he engages an old acquaintance in a struggle that has lasting consequences. Stripped of his healing factor, Wolverine must battle deadly samurai while struggling with guilt over Jean Grey's death.

Wolverine continued.....

Themes One of the biggest themes in this movie is The importance of family because, From Xavier to Logan and Logan to Laura, there’s an underlying theme of family and parenthood. Xavier, when lucid, genuinely wants Logan to experience what it means to be a part of a family. Despite years of trying, Xavier never fully was able to help Logan accept a place in the X-Men. There comes a moment in the film when the group is surrounded by a farming family, and Xavier could not be happier. He wants Logan to experience this as much as he wants Laura to.

How my character is relevant My character is relevant to the real world because in society when someone for say wins the lottery or gets an abundance of power, they become crazy and hard to control they become “an alternate version of themselves” this is evident in society when someone who wins the lottery blows it all and goes crazy because they are rich.

Why I like my character I like this character because he starts off as the underdog and he has everyone against him and he has to struggle with hiding his secret. I also like him because it portrays that life isn’t always easy even when you have these powers and when you have all this invincibility it doesn't matter if you don’t have your family with you.

Cable HISTORY OF CABLE Cable was born with some superhuman abilities. He was the offspring of a cyclops and jean grey. He first appeared in the comics as a young child. He was first introduced as a small character and later became his own series. A disease called the Techno-Organic virus has already converted most of his body, left arm and eye, into bionic parts. But, those bionic parts give him superhuman strength and agility, so that makes up for his mental powers almost always being tapped out. He then began to travel through time on his own accord.

HEROIC TRAITS Cable has many heroic traits that he expressed throughout comics and his movie with Deadpool. He shows a lot of courage when he approaches certain situations. He is very strong and is a great warrior. When he was fighting Deadpool he didn’t have a very hard time defeating him. He also travels over a vast setting even a vast timeline. He can time travel to the different time zone to accomplish his goal and save lives.

"A HERO IS AN ORDINARY INDIVIDUAL WHO FINDS THE STRENGTH TO PERSEVERE AND ENDURE IN SPITE OF OVERWHELMING OBSTACLES." - CHRISTOPHER REEVE

STORY ARCS OF CABLE One story arc is called second coming, it talks about the bond between Cable and Hope Summers as father and daughter. This story is the conclusion to the Messiah Complex trilogy. Cable and Hope were on the run from Bishop who wants to kill the messiah of the mutants. This forces them into the present, which introduces the other X-Men into the comic. Another story arc is cable alongside Deadpool, which is also introduced in the movie Deadpool 2. Cable is always more serious and to the book with a goal or purpose in mind whereas Wade, Deadpool is more comical. At the end of the day, they put their differences aside and respect each other to get the job done. This story arc is a very popular one, it has its own series and takes the readers on an interesting ride.

"PERFECT FOR PARTIES AND CELEBRATIONS"

CHECK HIM OUT! Cable learns a lot on his journeys, either through the help of others or by himself. Cable experiences a lot of pressure because he has to fill the prophecy that he has had since he was born. Throughout his comic series, he is a big strong man who doesn’t quit and does what he believes is right. Because he can travel through time he sees what can happen and stops it before it does, even if it means killing a child, but he soon learns that is not the first and only method to solve things. Cable is important to the outside world because he goes through some of the same things we do as humans. Although he is a superhero he still faces challenges, big or small. He also has a dysfunctional family that many of us also have. Cable is nothing short from being like a person or relating to a person in the outside world. So in all cable can be a relatable person or figure to most readers and fans.

!WHY YOU SHOULD CHECK THEM OUT! 1. Her ties to Black Panther! One of the overall reasons fans should get to see Storm command the screen has to do with her love affair with Wakandas T’Challa, aka Black Panther.

2. She's one of the top-ranking X-Men. Did you know that Storm was once a leader of the XMen? Yes, she was. Why? Because she fought her own battles and proved her own worth by rising up from her humble, misguided beginnings into something magnanimous.

Captain Marvel The Past Carol Danvers grew up a human, her dad didn’t believe women need to go to school so she joined the Air Force just to prove her dad wrong. During her time in the force she reached the status of Colonel. Carol worked as one of the best pilots in the Air Force before she became an intelligence officer and a NASA security officer. During her time in the service and as an NASA security officer Carol went on many adventures with her co-worker, an undercover alien agent, Mer-Vall. She saw so many people in need and wanted to help, and after a life changing event she go the chance to. After an epic battle resulting in an explosion, Mer-Vall (old Captain Marvel) shielded Carol causing him to disintegrate and their DNA to fuse. Carol then inherited the powers of Captain Marvel, and took the name Ms. Marvel.

So What Does it Tale to be A Hero? Captain Marvel if full of compassion and love for the people New York. She worked with Spider man, The Defenders and The Avengers, Carol was invited to join the Avengers during the scarlet witch's leave. She quickly established herself as a valuable member, however Ms. Marvel made a fast leave when an unexpected pregnancy was caused by Marcus, a super villain. Ms. Marvel had had those allies as well as enemies, such as Agent 17, Anti-Man. Blue Marvel, HYDRA, and many more. Ms. Marvel had a great deal of war experience as well as hand to hand combat. Along with those she had developed a seventh sense, much like peter Parker's spidey sense. This sense was able to tell when danger was near. During the first few months after Carol became Ms. Marvel this sense would change her into her hero self allowing her to defend the people and herself against whatever the danger might be.

Relating to the Real World

“Carol falls down all the time,” DeConnick says, “but she always gets back up — we say that about Captain America as well, but Captain America gets back up because it’s the right thing to do. Carol gets back up because ‘F*** you.’

Captain Marvel was released in the midst of the women’s rights movement. She is considered one of the strongest if not the strongest women superhero. She represents the power women have and how they have to constantly chase after it. Throughout the story a repeating theme is No matter how many times you are knocked down, you always get back up. The story of Captain Marvel appeals to me because she represents not only the power women can have but strength and determination. Even before she had powers Carol was in the Air Force and was one of their best Pilots, she also became part of NASA. Captain Marvel relates to the everyday struggle of sexism and the determinization it takes to overcome it, young girls in today’s world need a hero. I believe Captain Marvel is that Hero.

Story Time “When Walks The Mandroid” Carol D. was kidnapped and taken to a Kree outpost and must be rescued by Captain Marvel. During the battle with Yon-Rogg and Mandroid Carol took a laser blast to the head knocking her unconscious. While Carol lay unconscious the battle raged on and ended with a bang. During an explosion Captain Marvel shields Carol with his body. His body disintegrates causing his DNA to fuse with Carols. After their DNA’s combined Carol unknowingly had the powers Captain Marvel once inherited. This was the story of how Carol became Ms. Marvel making it stand out among her other comics.

“In Pursuit of Flight”

Captain Mar-Vall and Captain Marvel

This is the first time Carol refers to herself as Captain Marvel, After Mer-Vall the first Captain dies. During this story Captain Marvel in transported back to the time of World War II were she found herself on the Pacific front. During her struggle to get back to her own time Captain Marvel had to prevent Helen Cobbs from trying to take the powers of Psyche-Magnitron for herself and interfering with her own Origin story.

“This Woman, This Warrior” This was the first comic featuring Carol D. as Ms. Marvel. The story begins with Carol arriving in New York to begin her new editing job with A Women’s Magazine for J. Jonah Jameson. While Carol had to deal with headaches as well as blackouts whenever danger was near, she would turn into Ms. Marvel without realizing it. During this she takes on the Scorpion after he coms after her new boss. This was the first adventure that revealed Captain Marvel's powers to the readers, and as the story went on the background developed and shaped into one of Marvel's best.

"My name is Captain Marvel... I am an Earthling and an Avenger. But today I stand as one with the settlers of Torfa, who claim this planet and its resources as they were freely given in the aftermath of the Behemoth disaster... They are a peaceful people, but I am a woman of war. If you move against them, you move against me. I am willing to die here today, for this cause. I have made my choice... Now you make yours."

ANT-MAN'S PAST

ANT-MAN’S BACKGROUND Before Ant-Man was an amazing hero loved by everyone, he was into a life of crime and jail time. Ant-Man was a well developed scientist and technician, he was very good with all technology and had an amazing background as a scientist. He was a pretty average man until his daughter, Cassie Lang, was diagnosed with a congenital heart disease. In order for Scott to be able to help pay for his daughter to be healed, he went into a life of crime. He began robbing places in order to find nice things that he could use in some way to help his daughter. Scott got his powers in different ways in the comics. In one version of the comic, Ant-Man stole the suit from Dr. Pym, the scientist who made Pym particles, which allows AntMan to grow and shrink. Although the suit was stolen, Pym saw that Ant-Man had taken it to aid in his daughters healing and allowed him to keep it, as long as he used it for good. In the other version, Ant-Man is Dr. Pym, and he is the one who creates his own suit.

Add a little bit of body text

ANT-MAN'S HEROIC TRAITS Ant-Man has many desirable heroic traits, and some undesirable traits. A few of the better more heroic traits you can see in Ant-man would include the humility seen in him at most times. I say at most times because I will discuss his downfalls later on. You can see humility in Ant-Man as he does things for other people and not for himself. He was willing to throw his life away to save his daughter's life. He does all of this all while not being a braggart. The second heroic trait seen in Ant-Man would be his amazing skill and action during combat. Using his scientific genius, he designed a suit that allows him to change form, he can grow, shrink, and in one instance he even turned himself into a werewolf in order to fight a villain. The third heroic trait that you can see in Ant-man would be his deeds of great courage and responsibility. He faces large threats all the time, and if he fails to approach them the right way, he could put not only his, but everyone’s life at stake. That takes an amazing amount of courage to take on and a ton of responsibility knowing everything that you could cause to go wrong. The fourth heroic trait displayed by Ant-Man would be having National Heroism. Of course Ant-man would be known nationally just because he is a part of the avengers. Along with being part of the Avengers, you have to do missions and such that help people everywhere. The fifth and final heroic trait I found for Ant-man would be facing the supernatural. You see Ant-Man facing the Supernatural and Superhuman all the time. You can find examples of some of these enemies when you look at Ultron, Thanos, the Taskmaster, and many more. Despite Ant-man’s good traits, he also has some quiet bad ones. Ant-man has DID (dissociative identity disorder) therefore every now and then Ant-man turns into his alternate form also known as the wasp. In this form he is known to have beat his wife and been abusive. Another issue with Ant-man was that he accidentally created Ultron, one of the most dangerous villains in the marvel universe.

Why I think YOU should check out Ant-Man! I think everyone should check out Ant-man because he always has a very good storyline and he always has something new. In his comics you can get very good messages such as putting others first, caring for one another, and second chances. Despite all of these good things about the Ant-man comics, if you are more into comics with some spice, Ant-man could also be for you. He goes through many hardships, and makes many mistakes, some that are irreversible and majorly affect the Marvel universe. My character is very relatable in that although he has his good days, he always has bad days as well. He can go out and save multiple people’s lives, but he still won’t feel accomplished and will be angry at the end of the day. I also think that my character really could fit into this society because he is so advanced, he is amazing with technology and scientific stuff and he can easily accomplish so much like so many other people. Something else that a majority of people can relate to is that Ant-man has a mental illness and it makes his life very difficult, then along with him having an awful mental illness to worry about, his daughter has an awful disease, so he has to watch out for her. Then the final reason I really think people would enjoy the Antman comics is because there are multiple versions of Antman. He can be seen in many ways in comics written in different times, by different people.

Ant-Man's Popular Tales The first popular story line you will see Ant-Man in are the Avengers, right now, we are specifically talking about Avengers issue 212-213. Mainly in comic number 213, The Court Martial of Yellow Jacket, you see Ant-man take on his alternate persona, known as the wasp or yellow Jacket. In this persona, Ant-man becomes quiet violent and illtempered. This causes him to beat his wife, the wasp, because they had a disagreement, this occurrence then causes Pym to be kicked out of the avengers. In order to try and get back with the Avengers, Pym creates a robot and has it attack them. He then swoops in to save the day, but, his secret is discovered and he is taken to court.

The second comic that Ant-man appears in is also an Avengers comic. In Avengers #223, The Robinhoods and Roustabouts , you can see Ant-man and his companion Hawkeye. They are at the carnival being attacked by their enemy the taskmaster. In order for the two to defeat the Taskmaster they decide they need to work together to figure everything out. So, they come up with an amazing plan. Ant-man decides to shrink and climb aboard one of Hawkeye's arrows. That arrow would then be fired at the Taskmaster and they would defeat him that way.

The final comic is actually one of Ant-man's own comics. It is Ant-man #1-5 and is known as Second Chance Man. As the title gives away, you can see that Ant-man is given a second chance at life. This second chance comes when Ant-man is basically dead and his daughter does anything she can to bring back her father, who did so much to save her. She ends up being able to bring him back to life, but just like his other life, this one also isn’t very well lived.

Hero's Background Doctor Strange had a rough beginning. His sister drowned. His mother passed away, followed by his father. While his father was very ill, Strange’s brother confronted him about never visiting his father. Little did his brother know, Strange couldn’t handle it all, so that is the reason he was avoiding it. In his brother’s rage, he walked out in front of a speeding car, and it costed him is life. All these things lead to the interest Strange obtained in medicine. He became a very skilled, arrogant neurosurgeon, until his car accident. Doctor Strange obtained his powers after the car accident because he had to find the Ancient One to assist him in healing his extremely nerve-damaged hands. However, the Apprentice Sorcerer had been watching him since his birth, with the knowledge that he, one day, would become the Sorcerer Supreme, to take the place of the one before him. It was destiny for Strange to take his position where he ended up.

Heroic Traits Doctor Strange portrayed many of the heroic traits. He definitely showed the potential for deeds of great strength and courage. Many occasions, he took action for people’s best interest, when other people would have given up. Strange also was a great warrior. On the website, it shows he has 60% strength, and 100% knowledge, which are both needed for defeating the enemy. Strange has also traveled over a vast setting. He was required to leave home, to travel East on search for the Ancient One. He strives from this decision, but also saves the lives of many, many people. Doctor Strange portrays humility because he was never a braggart about sorcery. He learned not to be so arrogant when he met the Ancient One. Lastly, Strange definitely has several examples of supernatural foes, such as Dormammu and all of his helpers.

Story Arcs The Oath #1 was one of Doctor Strange’s most popular comic books. He is given a challenge, or maybe even two. He must solve his own attempted murder. He also must find a new ally, because his best friend is near death. Strange Origin is another very common book based on Doctor Strange. He is brought face to face with a man, who if they worked together, could be a very strong team. The only issue is that they must get past their conflicts, which was very difficult. Doctor Strange, the movie, is the last example. After the arrogant neurosurgeon was involved in a very harsh car accident, he has to go to Kamar-Taj to seek the Ancient One. He must accept the ways of Sorcery, and learn skills in the art. After the death of someone very important to Strange, he becomes the Sorcerer Supreme. He is faced with an impossible situation, but he remains holding his ground, and it ends in his favor.

Why you Should Check Out Doctor Strange Doctor Strange teaches the reader that they must open their mind, and change their reality. He experiences many things, all of which he never imagined would happen. He relates to people still today because he shows us that, no matter what happens, we must be flexible and learn to do our best with the circumstances. Sure, when bad things happen, we can’t all be superheroes, but we can learn to adjust and make things better for ourselves and others. I like this character overall because of how he transforms into the hero that he is in the end. He initially does it to save himself, but in the end that was only a bonus to him because he found greater pride in saving everyone else’s lives. The change of his character is the most fascinating thing to me.

THOR GOD OF THUNDER

KEY STORY ARCS Next to their run on Fantastic Four, the greatest (and longest) Stan Lee and Jack Kirby collaboration was on Thor. Lots of big, cosmic ideas and characters were introduced in their original ’60s run, which began in Journey Into Mystery, before Thor ended up totally taking over the title. Lee and Kirby were able to take

WHY THOR Since his introduction in 1962, Thor has become one of Marvel’s most popular characters and his popularity has only climbed in recent years due to Chris Hemsworth’s portrayal of the Norse god. Thanks to epic runs involving rich Norse mythology, superheros and science fiction, Thor has had some absolute cracking stories. And it’s with this list that I highlight 10 of them featuring stories old and new, with plenty of classics and fan favorites.

the Norse mythology and tweak it into something uniquely sci-fi and uniquely Marvel. If you can get past some of the ’60s cheesiness, there is much to treasure here. Collecting Journey into Mystery #83-120 and Annual #1 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby The most recent entry on this list is writer Jason Aaron‘s run on the character, which has now spread across three different volumes over five years– Thor: God of Thunder, Thor, The Mighty Thor, the mini-series Thors, and most recently, The Unworthy Thor. Under Aaron’s watch, many huge events happened in the life of the Odinson, including having his hammer taken away and his ex-girlfriend Jane Foster becoming the new Thor. His artistic collaborators have been great illustrators including Esad Ribic, Ron Garney, Russell Dauterman, Jorge Molina, Valerio Schiti, Steve Epting, and Rafa Garres; they’ve all known how to give the books a proper mythic grandeur. Collected in Thor: God of Thunder Vol. 1-3, Thor: Goddess of Thunder, and The Mighty Thor Vol. 1-3

THOR'S BACKGROUND AND TRAITS Thor was one of the most important and famous gods in Norse mythology. He was the son of Odin and Fyorgyn, the earth goddess. Thor was considered the stormweather god of sky and thunder and also a fertility god. His wife was Sif, a goddess also linked to fertility. Powers and abilities. Thor possesses immense superhuman strength, stamina, and durability. At the beginning of the series, his physical powers were entirely dependent on his hammer because he had no access to his divine powers.
