iù passa il tempo e più sostengo che l’endurance debba andare a doppia velocità ovvero dividersi in due: uno professionale e uno amatoriale. Non è possibile che io possa comprare un cavallo qualificato, fare due gare con lui e poi andare a competere con i campioni del mondo. Solo nell’endurance questo accade! Pensate se io potessi comprare una moto e andare a correre con Valentino Rossi dopo appena 6 mesi! Insomma, io vorrei potermi iscrivere ad una gara di 160 km, pagare 70 € o US Dollar e godermi la gara, il suo percorso, senza badare alla classifica. Poi nello stesso tracciato si svolgeranno le gare FEI, quelle per chi vuole competere. In questa seconda ipotesi troveremo allevatori, imprenditori, insomma chi vive di endurance o semplicemente chi ha voglia di misurarsi con gli altri e con il tempo. Questa potrebbe essere una soluzione, per altro già applicata in Francia con successo. In questo modo si potrebbero preservare anche i cavalli e magari farli correre e vivere più a lungo. Basti pensare e qui, giù il cappello, che l’amazzone del Maryland (USA) Claire Godwin ha concluso lo scorso anno la Tevis Cup in compagnia del suo Purosangue Arabo Merc che aveva 27 anni e mezzo!!! Ovviamente ha stabilito il nuovo record mondiale! La domanda è: “se lo avesse venduto a 8 anni?”

s time goes by I’m more and more convinced that endurance riding should proceed at double speed, in other words, it must be divided into two branches: professional endurance and amateur endurance. It is unacceptable that I can buy a qualified horse, run a couple of races and then compete with world champions. This happens only in endurance! Do you think I could buy a motorbike and then compete against Valentino Rossi after only 6 months? Hence, I would like to run a 160 km ride, pay 70 Euros or Dollars and enjoy the race and the track without having to care about the ranking. The same track could host the FEI rides and the riders who wish to compete. This second option would include breeders, entrepreneurs, and all those who do live for endurance or simply those who are looking for a challenge with others and with time. This could be one possible solution, a solution that has already been successfully adopted in France. A possible way to preserve horses, make them run and live longer. Just think about the rider from Maryland (USA), Claire Godwin. Last year she finished the Tevis Cup on Merc, her 27,5 year old Pureblood Arabian!!! She set a new world record!! The question is: “what if she had sold him when he was 8?”

a gestione di una ferita è un argomento che riguarda tutti i cavalieri perché capita a tutti prima o dopo di dover gestire una lesione del proprio cavallo durante una competizione o un allenamento. Le regioni più coinvolte sono sicuramente quelle degli arti, dove spesso risulta difficile la suturazione. Quando si verifica il trauma bisogna per prima cosa bloccare l’emorragia, con dell’acqua fredda o tamponando con degli asciugamani bagnati, successivamente è necessario pulire accuratamente la ferita, togliendo residui di fango e sporcizia e disinfettare bene la parte. Possiamo coprire la parte lesa con una fasciatura, in attesa dell’arrivo del veterinario che valuterà cosa fare: se intervenire chirurgicamente con una sutura, se sarà necessario somministrare degli antibiotici e degli antinfiammatori e soprattutto verificherà che il cavallo abbia la copertura vaccinale per il tetano. A questo punto bisognerà velocizzare la cicatrizzazione, soprattutto se le caratteristiche della ferita non permettono una risoluzione chirurgica. Una buona soluzione è utilizzare una crema dermatologica all’ozono come RHD Cavalli. L’ozono è una molecola, formata da tre atomi di ossigeno, alla quale si ricono-

scono desiderabili attività biologiche che ne giustificano il vasto impiego in clinica e in chirurgia. Innanzitutto svolge un’importante attività antibatterica, perché distrugge la membrana dei microorganismi e potenzia i sistemi di protezione cellulare. L’ozono, inoltre, ha attività antinfiammatoria e antalgica, soprattutto perché aumenta il flusso di ossigeno. Per questo motivo non bisogna spaventarsi se applicando una crema all’ozono la ferita diventerà di colore rosso acceso, questo avviene proprio per effetto dell’iperossigenazione, che aiuta ad alleviare il dolore e ad aumentare l’attività antinfiammatoria. Infine, favorisce il processo di cicatrizzazione stimolando la produzione di tessuti di granulazione ed eliminando le parti necrotiche dei tessuti. Proprio per tutte queste peculiarità è un rimedio di elezione per le ustioni nell’uomo. Applicando due volte al giorno RHD Cavalli si favorisce la rapida riparazione di lesioni di origine batterica come le piodermiti, fungina e traumatica. Si consiglia di usarla, oltre che per il trattamento di ferite anche per fiaccature, piaghe, abrasioni, dermatiti e punture di insetto.

Ozono: il trattamento delle ferite del cavallo

ooner or later, handling wounds is definitely one of the topics that affects all riders because everyone has to deal with a horse injury during training or competition. Limbs represent the region that is mainly subject to injury and often harder to suture. When the injury occurs, the first thing to do is to stop the bleeding with cold water or dab it with wet towels. Later, carefully clean the wound removing dirt and mud and disinfect. While waiting for the vet, we could cover the wound with a bandage but he has to decide how to proceed: he will either choose to surgically intervene with a suture or to administer antibiotics and anti-inflammatory but, first of all, he will make sure that the horse has tetanus vaccination coverage. At this point it is important to speed up healing especially if the case canâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t be solved surgically. A good solution is to use an ozone dermatological cream like RHD Cavalli. Ozone is a molecule composed of three oxygen atoms. It is widely used in clinics and surgery due to its desirable biological activities. First of all it

carries out an important antibacterial activity because it destroys the membrane of microorganisms and boosts cell protection systems. Furthermore, ozone owns anti inflammatory and analgesic properties, especially because it increases oxygen flow. For this reason you should not worry if the wound becomes bright red after the ozone cream is applied, this is due to hyperoxygenation that helps soothe the pain and increase the anti-inflammatory activity. Furthermore it helps heal the wound by stimulating the production of granulation tissue and eliminating necrotic parts of the tissues. These features make it an ideal treatment for manâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s burns. By applying RHD Cavalli twice a day you will foster fast healing of bacterial injuries like pyoderma, of fungal or traumatic origin. It is advisable to use it also for sores, abrasions, dermatitis, insect bites and saddle sores.

or the 13th time the French registered charity Endurance ĂŠquestre des Bastides du Bas Quercy organized the Castelsagrat Endurance Ride. The committee consists of three couples with a passion for endurance riding, and very mo-

tivated to organise once again an endurance race in 2019. The location of the event was the 16th century medieval village situated in the heart of the South-West of France. If we analyse the past editions, the trend shows an increasing number of participating horses.

Thank you to the 340 horses and riders who decided to face the challenge on our technical and difficult tracks, surrounded by the beauty of this territory and its hilly landscapes. This year, 18 different countries came to our tiny village which welcomed no less than 80 foreign riders!

Thank you to our partner M7 for the amazing prize giving ceremony (more than 62,000 euros). A lot of gifts were offered to each participant and their assistants: on the evening after the race: meals and fireworks, music and dance with a festive and kind atmosphere. We think to do more with M7 next year. Thank you to the volunteers (more than 100), to the owners of the private tracks, to the inter-

national Judges and veterinarians. Thank you to the local authorities who have trusted us for years and whose important financial support has enabled us to improve the organization and to grow each year. Thank you to the organization committee: three heads: Anne DONZELLI, Franck VERBRUGGE and Jean-Jacques DONZELLI and 10 very active members from our family or friendship. Weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ve worked throughout the whole year for the organization of this event... Itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s like a second job for us! But we like it!!

A choice of our organization: One race per day. It’s more simple to understand our event: a specific distance for each day. - 55 horses ran on Friday the 7th of June at 5:30 in the morning for 160 km. This event belongs to the selective races to participate at the Senior French team. - David ABAD GUERRA, a Spanish rider won with NADIN FAY at 18 km/h. The second was the French rider Roman LAFAURE with VALDEZ CABIRAT (as in 2017 after TARZIBUS and Sabrina ARNOLD) and the third was Servann LEBITOUX with SANITZA ARMOR. The French rider Christophe NOGUEIRA with PIROS DE FONTANEL ran all along the day at the first place. Unfortunately, they can’t be ranked because a mistake along the 5th loop. - 125 riders ran on Saturday the 8th June for CEI* 80 km event. Only 77 of them were ranked in CEI*. - The winner was Javier NEGRETE CUBAS with ALI SOU at 21,7 km/h, the second place was for the French rider Stéphanie CADET with B KIND OF MAGIC and the third one: Gorka LLAGUNO GUTIERREZ with REV-JUPITER. - The last day, on the Sunday 9th June, the CEI** 120 km races took place with 87 horses on the departure line (50 riders ranked) - A very young Spanish rider, Marc VILA SABATA with TBO SENDRA MIA at 20,4 km/h (the last loop at 22,7 km/h). The second et the third were experimented French riders: César DONNAIS with JEDRAN and Arthur DESPREZ with NABAT DES PINS. - The same day, took place a CEIYJ** with 35 young riders (18 reders ranked) . This race was used for the selection for the Young French team. - Lilou TOMAS ARNAUD winned with STELLA DU CLAUX at 19,4 km/h and at the second place, Marie CHARLES with AIGOUAL TAJ MAHAL, as third, Aurore CURBELIE with ULINE DE CAMBLAT. A French podium with 10 young women in the head of this race!

enevo molto a questo articolo, ho aspettato parecchio prima di decidermi a farlo; Dopo precisamente 13 anni di osservazione oggi, di rientro da uno dei tanti viaggi dagli Emirati Arabi, durante il tragitto in aereo ho avuto il tempo e l’ispirazione per dedicarmici. Eccomi qui a raccontare le mie personali impressioni sperando di regalare la giusta visibilità al rumoroso seppur invisibile popolo dei grooms! Nello specifico mi sof-

fermerò sul groom dei paesi del Golfo, quello che inevitabilmente mi ha maggiormente colpito. La parola groom deriva dall’inglese ed ha diversi ma simili significati. Nel nostro caso significa “stable worker”, l’uomo di scuderia che si occupa del cavallo, dalla tolettatura alla somministrazione del cibo, etc.. Il ruolo del groom, più che in altre discipline equestri, assume un ruolo fondamentale. Pensate che senza le loro figure, sarebbe impossibile correre in gare nei deserti.

have always had this article at heart, it took me a while to decide to write it down...now the time has come; after 13 long years and a lot of careful observation, during one of my recent flights back from Abu Dhabi, I had the time and inspiration to do so. Thus, here I am, making my personal observations, hoping to give the deserved visibility to the noisy but invisible world of grooms. Specifically, I will focus on the grooms who work in the Gulf countries because they

really did strike my attention the most. The word groom comes from English and has got several meanings which are more or less the same. In our specific case it means “stable worker”, he who takes care of horses, cleans them, feeds them, etc. A groom’s role in endurance riding is very important, more important than it is in other equestrian disciplines. Without them it would be impossible to run a race in the desert.

n Europa e in Italia, gare non lunghe, potrebbero anche essere corse senza supporti, laddove vi fossero dei punti d’acqua predisposti, ma parliamo di un altro tipo di endurance. Ovviamente tutto cambia quando le distanze crescono, quando il “crew” è fondamentale anche nel vecchio continente. In questo articolo vogliamo enfatizzare la figura del groom, soprattutto quello impegnato nei paesi arabi, spesso mano d’opera indiana e comunque orientale. Gli indiani sono portati per natura a stare vicino al cavallo, forse per naturali predisposizioni o forse perchè hanno fatto essi stessi di necessità virtù. Chi ha avuto la fortuna di assistere ad una gara di endurance nel deserto, prendiamo come esempio massimo gli Emirati Arabi, si sarà subito reso conto della grande quantità di grooms presenti che lavorano e vivono di endurance. Ormai i social networks hanno azzerato le distanze dunque chiunque avrà constatato tramite il proprio smartphone con i propri occhi quanto affermato. L’endurance, soprattutto nei paesi del Golfo, offre lavoro a migliaia di persone, dunque migliaia di famiglie. Di questo dobbiamo darne atto alle famiglie Reali che grazie alla loro passione per l’endurance, danno da mangiare non solo ai grooms, ma a tanti stranieri, italiani compresi, che vivono grazie all’endurance.

n Europe and in Italy, when arranged water sources are present along the track, short races can probably be run without any support, but this is a different endurance. Our aim is not to discuss which is better, either the old or new endurance, we just wish to highlight the importance of the groom. In this article, we will focus on the grooms who work in Arab countries that are mainly from India and Asia. People from India are naturally used to having a close relationship with horses, probably they own an innate empathy or maybe they have made a virtue out of necessity. Those who have had the chance to attend an endurance ride in the desert, for example, in the UAE, have probably realised that there is a great number of employed grooms who work and live for the endurance world. Nowadays, social networks have cancelled the distance among countries and by now, everyone will have witnessed what I have just declared by connecting to their smartphones.

ntriamo in uno stable: così fa figo chiamarli anche in italiano oggi. Visitando uno dei tanti stables di Dubai presenti nella cosiddetta “via dell’endurance”, ci si rende subito conto che il numero dei lavoranti spesso è maggiore di quello dei cavalli presenti. All’interno di questi grandi compound recintati e dotati di tutti i confort immaginabili soprattutto destinati ad arabi e cavalli, vive e lavora senza sosta il popolo degli invisibili. In tutti gli stable c’è un manager, arabo, persona di fiducia dello Sceicco di turno che riceve ogni anno una somma di denaro dallo stesso per amministrare lo stable, pagare i grooms, comprare cavalli, approvvigionamenti di cibo e di acqua etc. Poi c’è una lunga fila di Europei da veterinari, esperti di endurance, trainer, venditori di prodotti per cavalli, che si alternano sulla via dell’endurance. Tornando agli invisibili di cui parlavamo, è vero che lavorano in casa sotto voce, ma in gara si fanno sentire e come. Il giorno di gara è una festa per loro, un modo per uscire dallo stable, per sfogarsi, per sfrecciare con i 4x4 nel deserto sfoggiando le loro doti di pilota (ce ne sono di davvero bravi). Un modo per incontrare un po’ di mondo visto che durante le manifestazioni sportive le arene dell’endurance pullulano di donne e uomini provenienti da

ogni dove. Insomma, assistere i cavalli della propria scuderia è finalmente l’apice, il lavoro di tutto un anno si riduce a pochi mesi di gare prima di ripiombare nel caldo torrido che da maggio a ottobre ferma di fatto la maggior parte delle attività sportive. Il popolo invisibile si sente, è rumoroso, urla, strilla, applaude, fischia. Si fischia perchè tra un cancello e l’altro in una gara di endurance il fischio è fondamentale, perchè? Per fare urinare il proprio cavallo e farlo ripartire nella migliore condizione. Il groom monta il cavallo prima della gara, lo porta in visita veterinaria, lo pulisce, lo sfama mentre il rider, che spesso vede il quadrupede per la prima volta il giorno della gara, lo monta solamente e spesso in modo inenarrabile; comunque questa è un’altra storia che avrebbe bisogno di un articolo ad hoc. Il groom da quelle parti passa le bottiglie di acqua minerale al cavaliere, si allena tutto l’anno per questo. In alcuni stable, nelle loro piste di allenamento annesse, ho visto con i miei occhi delle figure di cartone posizionate a bordo pista che riproducono i volti dei grooms che saranno impiegati in gara in modo che i cavalli possano imparare a non scartare alla loro vista improvvisa, dunque riconoscerli e fidarsi.

While visiting one of the many stables that are present in the so called “Avenue of Endurance” in Dubai, we quickly realise that the number of employees is greater than the number of horses. The big enclosed compounds come equipped with every conceivable comfort for Arabs and horses. Meanwhile, the invisible people work non-stop. Every stable is under the responsibility of an Arab manager entrusted by the present Sheikh. Every year, the manager receives money to run the stable, pay the grooms, buy horses, food, water, etc. Then there are a lot of employees from Europe: vets, endurance experts, trainers, and sellers of horse products who keep alternating in the endurance world. But speaking of those invisible people, it is true that they seem to work silently in the backstage but, as a matter of fact, you can hear them lound and clear during a race. The race day is like a celebration for them, an opportunity to peep out of the stable and pour out their emotions, speed up in the desert with their 4x4 and show off their driving skills

(some of them are really excellent drivers!). It is also a way of meeting people from all over the world that are reunited for the endurance event. To assist the horses of one’s own stable is probably the most important objective to reach. The hard work carried out in one year shows off in just a few months of intense competition, then everything settles down from May to October due to hot weather, a period of the year when most sports activities come to a rest. The invisible people are loud, they are noisy, they shout, they whistle and clap hands. It is important to whistle because from one vet gate to the other you whistle to make the horse urinate in order to let him continue the ride in the best possible condition. A groom rides the horse before the race, he takes him to the vet check, he cleans him, feeds him, while the rider often sees him for the first time the day of the race, he just rides him and sometimes doesn’t even ride him well; but this is another story that probably will be told in another dedicated article. In some countries of the Gulf, the groom passes water bottles during the race and trains all year round in order to do this well. In some stables, you can find some characters made out of cardboard along the training tracks.

l “passa acqua” è il loro mestiere principale; abbiamo calcolato che ogni groom passa ai cavalieri, diventati essi stessi ricevitori di acqua, centinaia e centinaia di bottiglie di acqua minerale in una sola gara; inutile sottolineare che il pensiero va inevitabilmente alle milioni di persone che muoiono di sete per la siccità, ma anche qui rischiamo di uscire fuori tema. Il groom, spesso giovanissimo, nei Paesi del Golfo aspetta la fine della gara per rincorrersi, farsi dei ghiacciati gavettoni, lanciare il cavaliere di turno, sempre più spesso compaesano, nei grandi secchi di acqua. Insomma un giorno di festa durante il quale, se si è fortunati può scapparci anche qualche premio in denaro da parte dei manager degli stable. Se la propria scuderia ottiene una vittoria o un piazzamento, si lanciano tutti sul podio, dopo

la premiazione ovviamente, in cerca di selfie e popolarità sul web. Spesso ho provato tenerezza nell’osservarli. Ho passato un’intera gara a guardare solo loro, senza pensare ai cavalli tanto ormai le classifiche super live ti raccontano tutto anche se non segui la gara, tra un po’ anticiperanno i risultati per quanta tecnologia viene usata!! Il groom, come tutti nei paesi del Golfo, consegna il passaporto al boss di turno e torna a casa a volte 15 giorni ogni due anni, dove riabbraccia per qualche giorno la propria famiglia. Sono storie difficili da capire per me ad esempio che scrivo di loro, stando seduto comodamente su un aereo, con aria condizionata e bibite fresche a volontà. A loro con questo brevissimo articolo, va un grande plauso... Senza di voi il giochino si romperebbe presto...

Their main role is to give out bottles of water. During a competition, one groom can pass around 100 bottles to the rider. It is useless to say that we must think of all those millions of people who die of thirst, but this is another topic too. In the Gulf countries, the groom, who is usually very young, can’t wait for the end of the race to start having fun. They run after one another, toss water and throw the rider in a big bucket of water. It is a a celebration day and if they’re lucky enough, they could receive some money from the manager of the stable. If the sta-

ble achieves a good ranking position, right after the prizegiving ceremony, everyone jumps on the podium shooting selfies that could gain them popularity on the web. I often felt a sense of tenderness while watching them. I spent a whole race observing them without thinking about the horses, live ranking tell you everything already even if you don’t watch the race. Probably, all this technology will end up anticipating the results one day! In the Arab countries, the groom, just like everyone else, gives his passport to his boss and returns home for 15 days every two years. Only then can he hug his family again. It is hard for me to tell their difficult stories while sitting comfortably on the plane with AC and fresh drinks. I would like to dedicate them a round of applause...without them the show couldn’t go on.

fter one year of stop with FEI rides, the Asd I Cavalieri dell’Antera di Vittorito (Aq) have achieved another brilliant result. Between 12-14 April 2019 Vittorito reconfirms itself as Italian Capital of Endurance. Hundreds of people, including riders, crews and accompanying families invaded

this small commune in the province of L’Aquila, occupying most of the hotels and restaurants. It was a record for the Italian Championship for Young Riders with 41 binomials at the start line. Considering the beautiful track proposed by the Organizing Committee again, it couldn’t but be a great success.

chi, siamo giunti alla conclusione che anche i cavalli abbiano apprezzato al loro passaggio, la presenza di acqua. Per i più curiosi si ricorda infatti che tra Vittorito e il comune limitrofo di Raiano, è presente una sorgente di acqua sulfurea che faceva girare la ruota di un mulino; essa era utilizzata per i benefici effetti sui tessuti cutanei ed anche come ottimo sbiancante per le fibre di canapa e di lino.

Examining some ancient documents we have reached the conclusion that even horses have appreciated the presence of water. We would like to remind our most curious readers that between Vittorito and the close by commune of Raiano there is a sulphur spring that used to activate a watermill; it was used for its dermatological benefits and as bleacher of hemp and flax fibers.

a giovane e agguerrita Camilla Coppini in sella ad Antares by Nimroz (Mazar Sharif x Angelina Bint Volia), ha messo tutti in riga vincendo il titolo di Campionessa Italiana Under 21. La stessa emozionata e soddisfatta, ringrazia il cavallo che con i suoi formidabili rientri di cuore, le ha permesso di raggiungere il titolo che la proietta verso la selezione del Campionato del Mondo Young Riders 2019. Alla ragguardevole media di 21,31 km/h, l’amazzone veneta di Garda Endurance stacca di circa 4 minuti la Campionessa 2018 Costanza Laliscia; quest’ultima che difende in Umbria i colori del Fuxia Team, proprio non conosce posizioni fuori dal podio centrando l’argento in compagnia di Assim du Barthas (Djin Lotois x Kamchatka). Ottimo rientro alle gare FEI per Barbaforte Bosana (Achnaton x Mashden) alle redini dell’atleta lombarda Camilla Malta che corre con il colori della SG Cavalli. Insomma tre donne sul tetto d’Italia a dettare legge in vista dell’appuntamento più atteso dell’anno, il mondiale JY di San Rossore.

She was very excited and satisfied with the result and thanked her horse for the wonderful heart rates which allowed her to conquer the title that will lead her straight to the rider selection for the 2019 Young Riders World Championship. The rider of Garda Endurance from Veneto crossed the finish line at an average speed of 21,31 km/h, 4 minutes before the 2018 champion Costanza Laliscia from Umbria. Costanza fights for the colors of the fuxia Team winning silver medal astride Assim du Barthas (Djin Lotois x Kamchatka), no matter what she always keeps a foot on the podium! Excellent return in FEI racing for Barbaforte Bosana (Achnaton x Mashden) ridden by Camilla Malta from Lombardy who represents the SG Cavalli team. Three female riders dominate the ride and are now looking forward to the most awaited event of the year, the JY World championship in San Rossore.

Chi è Carolina? Io sono originaria di Monte San Pietrangeli un paesino in provincia di Fermo. Dopo il mio matrimonio con Angelo Paris, mi sono trasferita al mare, a Numana dove ho i miei cavalli. Come è nata la passione dei cavalli? Si può dire che sono vissuta circondata da cavalli, basti pensare che il mio paese nativo è situato precisamente a metà strada tra due ippodromi, quello di San Paolo di Monte Giorgio e quello di Corridonia. La mia vita dunque non poteva che andare in questa direzione. La mia famiglia ha sempre appoggiato le mie scelte supportandomi e sopportandomi! Iniziai con l’endurance e con le prime gare fino a quando incontrai sulla mia strada Gianluca Laliscia. Corsi per il suo team puntando ad appuntamenti di alto livello fino a quando pian piano, la sua famiglia è diventata la mia seconda! E’ nato un bellissimo rapporto, soprattutto con Costanza con la quale ho condiviso momenti indimenticabili. Oggi vivi al mare; preferisci il mare o la montagna? Senza dubbio il mare. E’ sempre presente nella mia vita perchè ce l’ho a 500 metri da dove abito. Anche solo guardarlo e sapere che è lì, mi dà serenità. Qual è la giornata tipo di Carolina? Io mi sveglio sempre molto presto, diciamo verso le 6-6.30. Mio marito infatti si lamenta sempre perché non dormo mai. Sono in effetti iperattiva. Considerando che due o tre volte a settimana sono ad Agello, Perugia, presso la scuderia di Italia Endurance Stable & Academy per montare, il resto della settimana sono a casa dove ho i miei cavalli da lavorare ed accudire.

CAROLINA Tavassoli Asli Interview with the Italian Champion 2019: She loves the sea, dreams of Africa and believes in the importance of family Who is Carolina? I am from Monte San Pietrangeli, a small town in the province of Fermo. After my wedding with Angelo Paris, I moved to the beach, in Numana, where my horses are. Where does your passion for horses come from? I have always lived surrounded by horses, my hometown is located exactly between two racecourses, San Paolo di Monte Giorgio and Corridonia...it just had to be my destiny! My family has always supported my choices and borne with me. I began with endurance and while I was running my first races I met Gianluca Laliscia. I ran for them aiming at high level events until, gradually, his family became my second family. We built a wonderful relationship, especially with Costanza with whom I shared unforgettable moments. Today you live by the sea. Do you prefer the sea or the mountain? Undoubtedly the sea. It is always present in my life, it’s just 500m from where I live. Just the idea of looking at it and knowing that it’s there calms me down. What does Carolina’s ordinary day look like? I always get up very early in the morning, around 6 – 6.30. My husband always complains because I don’t sleep a lot. I’m hyperactive. Twice a week and sometimes even 3 times I have to go to Agello (Perugia). Al mattino, dopo la rapida colazione vado da loro, mi occupo della sistemazione dei box e dei paddock, poi passo alla cura dell’alimentazione, tra fieno, mangimi, integratori e poi finalmente monto, la mia passione. Non rimane granchè tempo nella giornata e la sera si è stanchi. Quando vado a Perugia mi sveglio anche alle 5 del mattino per partire presto ed essere pronta. Cosa fai nel tempo libero? Come accennato di tempo ne resta ben poco. Quando sono libera amo fare sport e indossare sempre scarpe da ginnastica. Amo correre, camminare sulle colline marchigiane e fare veloci tuffi in mare che da queste parti è davvero invitante. Sempre in compagnia della mia

jack russell Brisé. Le scarpette le tolgo solo per andare a passeggiare in centro, per un aperitivo o una cena con amici. Conduco una vita da atleta a 360° perché i risultati importanti si ottengono solamente con dedizione e sacrificio. Il tuo viaggio dei sogni di bambina? Il mio sogno da sempre è quello di visitare l’Africa, a cavallo ovviamente. Un safari tra gli animali è una cosa che mi manca e che prima o poi dovrò fare. Piatto preferito? Amo mangiare il pesce! Soprattutto i secondi piatti. Sempre per rimanere in tema mare!

Well, as I’ve just said, I haven’t got much time left for myself. When I’m free I like to practice sports and wear trainers. I love to run and walk on the hills of the Marches, I also like to dive in this beautiful sea. I do everything with Brisé, my jack russell. I take my trainers off when I have a walk downtown or when I go out with my friends for an aperitif or dinner. I lead a 360

degrees athlete’s life. You achieve the best results only through sacrifice and dedication. What’s your dream trip? I would like to visit Africa on horseback. I’ve never been on a safari before, I’d love to one day. What’s your favourite dish? I love fish! Especially second courses. As you see I really do love the sea. Let’s talk about family. Soltanto la caparbietà e la passione del comitato organizzatore, ha reso possibile il corretto svolgimento della gara internazionale del week end dell’1 e 2 giugno 2019. Il team Generali Endurance e Tuscia Events sono riusciti a sistemare in tempo record il Centro Sportivo di Sant’Angelo, proprio sotto il Castello Banfi dove si è svolto regolarmente il Trofeo del Brunello, V Memorial Mario Generali.

ust a couple of days before the ride, a violent rainstorm struck the Val d’Orcia and Montalcino in the province of Siena. Only the organizing committee’s passion and determination led to a perfect organization of the race that was held on 1st and 2nd June 2019. The team Generali Endurance and Tuscia Events succeeded in setting up the Centro Sportivo di Sant’Angelo on time. The Trofeo del Brunello, V Memorial Mario Generali, regularly took place at the foot of Castello Banfi. The race schedule of this 6th edition was very rich: FEI rides but also MiPAAFT and special prizes from ANICA.

the high quality standard of this event is the ride briefing followed by an aperitif at Castello Banfi, this is the place where the famous wine called Brunello di Montalcino is produced. Protected by the walls of this beautiful fortification, you can admire boundless vineyards, cypresses and sweet hills. Since 1957, the last Sunday of October, Montalcino hosts the Sagra del Tordo, a festival which includes an exciting archery competition that attracts all the population.

CURIOSITA’ SU MONTALCINO (SI)

Montalcino è il Comune Italiano che ha resistito più di tutti gli altri in Italia, fu l’ultimo Comune libero, dopo che il trattato di pace tra Francia e Spagna di Chateau Cambresis stabili la dominazione politica e militare spagnola in Italia. La piccola Repubblica di Montalcino si arrese, il capitano del popolo Alessandro Vannucci consegnò le chiavi della città all’ambasciatore spagnolo Don Guevara ed ai rappresentanti del Duca dei Medici. Il 31 luglio del 1559 sancì la capitolazione del borgo.

CURIOSITIES ABOUT MONTALCINO

Montalcino is the Italian commune that more than others has endured. It was the last free commune, and with the peace treaty between France and Chateau Cambresis’ Spain, it was declared that political and military Spanish domination would have reigned over Italy. The small Republic of Montalcino surrendered and the captain of Montalcino’s population, Alessandro Vannucci, delivered the city’s keys to the Spanish Ambassador Don Guevara and the representatives of the Duca de’ Medici. L’amazzone del Fuxia Team di Agello (Pg), fresca del titolo di Campionessa Italiana, porta a casa dopo una bella galoppata finale, la 120 Ladies con Ice Cool (Frere des Loups x Icehouse). Alle sue spalle dopo la volata, Chiara Berni e il best condition Marte RP (Estetyk x Gora Bella) seguita dalla triatleta Alessandra Brunelli su Rahia (Dormane x Jahia). amilla Coppini, amazzone young riders tesserata nel Veneto, si è laureata Campionessa Italiana Young Riders 2019. Il titolo è arrivato dopo aver vinto l’affollata CEI2* 120 km. di Vittorito (Aq) in compagnia di Antares by Nimroz (Mazar Sharif x Angelina Bint Volia). Oggi sono 2 le medaglie d’oro che può sfoggiare nella sua bacheca perchè lo stesso metallo lo vinse anche nel 2016. Vediamo di conoscere meglio Camilla attraverso qualche domanda.

She achieved this important title after winning the crowded 120 km CEI2* in Vittorito (Aq) astride Antares by Nimroz (Mazar Sharif x Angelina Bint Volia). Sei andata al Campionato Italiano YR 2019 con l’intento di provarci o l’idea si è materializzata strada facendo? Sono partita sicuramente con l’idea di fare bene, essendo anche il mio ultimo anno negli Under 21. Volevamo chiuderlo in bellezza. Conoscevo il percorso molto bene e questo mi ha permesso di giocare qualche punto a mio favore sfruttando i rientri cardiaci fenomenali del mio compagno di gara Antares. Chiudere il lungo periodo da Young Rider con una medaglia al collo, sarebbe stato il giusto riconoscimento del tanto lavoro svolto e dei km. macinati negli anni. Io e la mia famiglia meritavamo questo palcoscenico e l’oro è stato il massimo.

Did you run the 2019 YR Italian Championship because you really wanted to or did you develop the idea of going there along the way? What I’m sure of is that I decided to go with the intention to do my best, also because this is my last year in the Under 21 category, I wanted to end with a bang! I knew the track very well and this played into my hands, taking advantage of Antares’ fabulous heart recovery... he was my ride companion. To end my long Young Rider career with a medal would have been a great recognition of all the hard work and km run throughout the years. My family and I honestly deserved it and to win a gold medal was the best I could expect.

Come sempre Camilla, preferiamo conoscere i nostri interlocutori facendo domande diverse. Risultati, dati, rientri, statistiche, sono tutte cose conosciutissime dunque inutili da riprendere ed argomentare.

Vogliamo sapere cosa fai oltre ad andare a cavallo. Cosa mangi prima delle gare. Vogliamo far conoscere a tutti coloro che pensano di avvicinarsi all’endurance, chi sono le nostre amazzoni campionesse nella loro vita fuori l’endurance. Io studio Economia Aziendale all’Università di Verona. Sono iscritta al secondo anno. Il mio obiettivo è quello di portare avanti la mia carriera nel mondo dell’endurance anche attraverso la gestione della struttura equestre che abbiamo costruito. Oggi dopo tanti investimenti sta diventando una realtà importante e consolidata che richiede doti e capacità non solatanto sportive ma anche tecniche e di gestione.

What do you do apart from riding? What do you usually eat before the ride? We would like to tell our endurance passionates something about the present endurance champions and what they do when they don’t ride... in their spare time. I study business economics at the University of Verona. I’m in my second year and my objective is to continue my career in the endurance world also by managing the equestrian structure we have built. After having invested a lot in this sector, today I realize that it is becoming an important and consolidated reality that doesn’t require only sports abilities but also management and technical capabilities.

La mia famiglia è impegnata nel settore immobiliare e in quello turistico, ma l’azienda agricola e l’endurance sono le passioni e la linfa che spinge sicuramente ogni giorno a crescere e migliorare. Per quanto riguarda il cibo prima delle gare, mi dispiace deluderti, niente cibo, solamente un the caldo prima della partenza, poi al secondo giro si vede!!! Spesso al the se disponibile, aggiungo un po’ di adrenalina!!! Quindi abbiamo capito che al mattino vestirai il “tailleur da manager” e il pomeriggio le scarpe da endurance. Ma tolti gli studi e l’endurance, hai qualche spazietto ancora libero per te? Difficile davvero trovare spazi. Da qualche anno ci dedichiamo anche all’allevamento, poi ci sono gli allenamenti, siamo praticamente ogni week-end fuori per gare, davvero non ho tempo nemmeno di andare al cinema. Studio e cavalli!!! Il tuo fidanzato va a cavallo o andrà a cavallo? Ah Ah al momento non c’è un Principe azzurro, se dovesse arrivare spero che abbia la mia stessa passione!!!

My family works in the tourist and real estate field but the farm and endurance are their real passions and nourishment which push them to develop and improve. I’m sorry to disappoint you but before a ride I don’t eat anything, I just have a cup of hot tea before the start and then after the second loop I decide. I usually add some adrenalin to my cup of tea too!!! So if I get it right...in the morning you’ll be wearing a manager’s suit and in the afternoon endurance shoes. Apart from studying and riding have you got some spare time for yourself? It is difficult to have some spare time. In the last few years we’ve been dedicating ouselves to breeding too, then we have to train and we’ve got races almost every week-end, I don’t even have time to go to the cinema. University and horses, that’s all!! Does your boyfriend ride or will he ride? There’s no prince charming yet, but if I will ever have one, I hope he’ll be sharing my same passion!!!

al 16 al 19 maggio 2019, l’Horse Country Resort Congress & Spa di Arborea (Or), ha aperto i cancelli all’endurance e questa volta per l’appuntamento più importante in Italia, I Campionati Italiani Assoluti sponsorizzati per l’occasione da Equiplanet. Si assegnava il titolo più atteso, quello che non ti stacchi più dalla pelle e del quale i vincitori potranno fregiarsene per sempre. La piccola cittadina in provincia di Oristano, continua ad affermarsi capitale dell’endurance. Dal volo dei fenicotteri rosa al fascino del tradizionale villaggio dei pescatori di Marceddì, tutto qui sembra essersi fermato.

uesto è l’endurance di Arborea dove un continuo susseguirsi di diversi paesaggi e di colori, non lascia tregua agli occhi dei fortunati cavalieri in gara. Il Resort parterre della manifestazione, avvolge i presenti in un abbraccio virtuale che dona serenità e senso di appartenenza al gruppo. Tutto si svolge all’interno del centro turistico polifunzionale, dove i ritmi di vita sembrano rallentare riportando tutto ad una dimensione più reale ed autentica. E’ proprio qui che i cavalli impegnati nelle varie gare in programma a corredo del Campionato Italiano, si incontrano e si conoscono, spesso per la prima volta. L’appuntamento per loro è nel centro equestre annesso al Resort, l’accogliente Alabirdi.

his is endurance in Arborea, a place where different landscapes and colors come in quick succession in the eyes of the lucky riders running the race. The Resort that hosts the event, greets its guests with a virtual hug that offers calm and feeling of belonging to a group. Everything takes place inside the multi-purpose tourist center where life rithms seem to slow down leading everything to a real and authentic dimension. This is exactly where the horse athletes that will be running different ride categories of the Italian Championship meet and get to know each other for the first time. They will be meeting at the equestrian center close to the Resort: the cozy Alabirdi.

e isole notoriamente non sono agevoli da raggiungere con i cavalli. I problemi logistici, i tempi e i costi, tra lâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;altro abbattuti per lâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;occasione grazie a convenzioni con le compagnie di navigazione, non hanno fatto registrare un grandissimo numero di cavalli nella CEI3* 160 km. che ha visto al via 15 cavalli. Ci si Ă¨ domandato se il numero fosse stato maggiore se il campionato fosse stato disputato in continente ma personalmente credo che forse potevano aggiungersene 3 o 4 al massimo.

Due to logistical problems, time and costs (which have been reduced due to special agreements made with the navigation companies), the 160 km CEI3* didnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t register a big number of horses, only 15 binomials were at the start line. Probably if the race had been run on the mainland there would have been more horses, but honestly, I believe there could have been maximum three more horses.

Con l’ultimo giro percorso a 24,45 km/h e la media finale di 18,19 km/h Carolina ha messo la firma su una gara molto combattuta dall’inizio alla fine. L’ultimo giro è stato decisivo, infatti Carolina, ripartita a circa 3 minuti da un forte terzetto di testa formato dalla amica e compagna di squa-

dra Costanza Laliscia/Rok, Isabella Bonetto/ Ottello e Lucca Zappettini/Agraria, è riuscita a ricucire lo svantaggio riprendendo tutti. A quel punto insieme a Costanza hanno premuto sull’acceleratore creando il vuoto dietro. Il binomio campione d’Italia 2017 Costanza Laliscia/Rok, a pochi chilometri dall’arrivo finale, ha avuto un pit-stop inatteso. Rok ha perso un ferro. Intervento lampo del maniscalco e argento assicurato mentre Carolina volava verso il primo oro in carriera dopo averlo sfiorato nel 2016 a San Rossore. Carolina, in lacrime, ha ringraziato al termine della visita veterinaria finale, la sua compagna di gara Valda du Vallois e tutto il super Fuxia Team.

Carolina Tavassoli Asli and the grey Pureblood Arabian of 2009 Valda du Vallois (Escobar x Eracea), won the title of 2019 Italian champions. They ran the last loop at 24,45 km/h and a final average speed of 18,19 km/h. Carolina won a race that has been challenging from the very beginning till the end. The last loop was quite determining: Carolina was 3 minutes behind a row of three riders; her friend and teammate Costanza Laliscia/

Rock, Isabella Bonetto/Otello and Lucca Zappettini/Agraria. Carolina managed to catch up with them and started an exciting and fast run towards the finish line with Costanza, leaving everyone else behind. The 2017 Italian champions Costanza Laliscia/Rok, had to stop unexpectedly just a few km from the finish line. Unfortunately Rok lost a horseshoe. The farrier was fast enough to earn Costanza and Rock a silver medal while Carolina flew straight to her first gold after having missed it for a split second in 2016 (San Rossore). After the final vet check, a very moved Carolina thanked her ridemate Valda du Vallois and all the super Fuxia Team.

ast weekend of May every year Tersk Stud becomes a magnet for everybody who’s in love with horses. The good tradition appeared six years ago when the management decided to take part in promoting equestrian sports and Arabian horses. This year the Stud hosted Stavropol Region Endurance Competition and ECAHO D Arabian horse show “Rising Star of Tersk”. About fifty horsemen from several regions of the Russian Federation came to participate in endurance competition. Fortunately, no horse needed

veterinary assistance and the clinic was unused. The winner of the CEI2* 120 was Ramin Kubanov from Kabardino-Balkaria. The first on the CEIYJ2* 120 was Nadezhda Mikhaylova from Moscow. And the winner of CEI1* 80 was Ramazan Kugotov from Karachaevo-Cherkessiya. The weather sprung a surprise on participants and judges. The day started with bright sunshine but by midday the sky opened with heavy rain. But even this unexpected development didn’t spoil the mood of the participants.

The gold champion among fillies was grey Rubrika Terks by Banderos out of Rechnaia Nimfa Tersk and among colts - the winner was little bay Bambino Tersk by Chimeryk out of Belosnejka Tersk â&#x20AC;&#x201C; a daughter of famous Muscat.

he main intrigue was saved till the moment of comparison. On the arena a brother and a sister fought for the title of the Champion of the show. Beautiful Hrizantema Tersk and stunning Min Herz Tersk did their best to impress the judges. In the end the charisma of the colt triumphed and Min Herz by Chimeryk out of Meine Kleine Tersk won the main title of the show. On the 25th of August Tersk Stud will celebrate its 130th Anniversary. Traditionally the guests will be able to see Arabian horse show, breathtaking Kossak stunt riding and have fun on the territory of the Stud that itself is an integral part of Russian history and the jewel of the country.

n the 1st of June, Tom MacGuinness, who founded the company HORSEWARE in the mid 1980s, won the 160 km CEI3* at King Forest, in Suffolk. After winning the ride, Tom MacGuinness declared to Equestriantradenews, Horseandhound and to Sport EVO that he loves the sense of adventure. Throughout the ride he kept an average speed at just over 18 km. Tom astride his companion, the 11 year old chestnut gelding Horseware Sasha D’Aillais, crossed the finish line ahead of Spain’s Maria Alvarez Ponton (JM Bucefala) and Omar Blanco Rodrigo (Twyst Maison Blanche).

The CEI2* was won by another horse owned by Tom MacGuinness, Horseware HLM Iguazu ridden by Martin McNamara. It is the first time ever that Irish riders win an FEI endurance double.

What’s more, the startlist boasts some of the very best names in the sport. In addition to Bram Chardon, this year’s attendees will include current World #1 and reigning World Champion Boyd Exell (AUS), and reigning FEI European Champion (and father of Bram Chardon), Ijsbrand Chardon (NED). Also on the list: Glenn Geerts (BEL), Georg von Stein (GER), Jozsef Dobrovitz (HUN), Jozsef Dobrovitz, Jr. (HUN), and Chester Weber (USA). The event is part of a new, multidisciplinary approach to the X-BIONIC® SUMMER TOUR, which will showcase world-class Four-in-Hand driving alongside top-tier show jumping and, for the first time, endurance racing. From July 19-21, the new Endurance Summer Spirit series will feature national- and international-level competitions, including CEI1* 80km, CEI2* 120km, and CEI3* 160km distances, with 80 horses expected from nine countries around the globe.
