Lehman ’62 was an outstanding multi-sport athlete during his high school career at St. Martin’s. He was named best all-around athlete in 1962, his senior year, after excelling in fall, winter, and spring sports. As co-captain and quarterback of the football team, he led the Saints to a season with only one loss. He also played linebacker and punter. He was named best lineman and The Times-Picayune Player of the Week. He played center and forward on the varsity basketball team, which went to the second round of the playoffs, and he was named St. Martin’s varsity basketball MVP that season. Track and field is where Lehman truly excelled. Among other achievements, he was the Class B Track and Field State Champion in the javelin and discus. He was named the school’s track and field MVP during his senior year. Dozier coached at St. Martin’s from 1986 to 2000, and in that time he taught hundreds of students more than just athletic skills. He instilled in his athletes traits that develop character, such as hard work and cooperation. He served as head baseball coach for all the years that he was at St. Martin’s. It was under Dozier, in the spring of 1991, that St. Martin’s baseball team went 23-0 and won the AA State Championship. In addition to coaching baseball, Dozier served as head football coach for eight years.
Each year St. Martin’s inducts new members into its Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame, which was established in 2006.
