Putting your
heart on the line by Ian M S Royer
the risk of giving love a chance. My editor gave me a Really, it takes a frame of mind to topic this week to write just man up (or woman up), and about that at first seemed get yourself in the game of dating. Interestingly enough, the hardest harrowing: “What would part of surrendering to the experiit take for you to put ence is telling yourself that if it your heart out there and doesn’t work out you’re no worse off than you started – without love explore finding love or and at the very least you will have just great new friends”, the potential for gaining a new especially since my recent friend. I believe that you experiences need to treat the have left me exploration of a little cynical finding love like a gorilla war: stiffen about the big your courage, “Don’t stand by the up LOVE word. assess the hostile
river bank and watch it pass you by, wash your foot and jump right in!”
So after a few days of sitting on this writing my iTunes flicked on a song and some lyrics struck me: “Affairs of the heart, together we’ve grown, if ever apart, all I want you to know is your love is life changing.” What a fantastic promise is made in this line from the Damian Marley song “Affairs of the Heart”. I think it’s that promise of such a life-changing feeling that makes falling in love worthwhile. That promise made me realise that the risk of happiness far outweighs
environment and trust in your intuition and craftiness to wage a war against loneliness. It reminds me of a quote good friend Danielle Dieffenthaller gave me: “Don’t stand by the river bank and watch it pass you by, wash your foot and jump right in!” Use your courage and faith that there is someone out there for you to quell the doubt and panic and just accept new dates for what they are; good or bad they will only help you grow.
Ways to turn down a date gently Tired of going on pity dates with people you’re not interested in because you don’t know how to say no? Here’s how to deal with it like an adult – almost. Step 1- Be truthful
Try the truth. Simply say, “I’m not interested.” After all, everyone says they appreciate the truth – and it’s hard to argue with blunt honesty. Even barflies who lack self-respect know this, which is why they often target people too nice say so.
Step 6- Pull out all stops
Inform this person that you are over 40, live with your parents, and are unemployed. This is the trifecta of turnoffs – you’ve pulled the age card, the pathetic card, and the broke card. If they stick around, they’re either hopelessly in love or hopelessly randy.
Step 2- Say you’re involved
Say, “I’m involved.” This is one of the most common little white lies – it’s simple in theory, easy to execute, and makes everyone feel good about themselves.
Step 3- Claim a recent breakup
Tell the person, “I just got out of a serious relationship and I’m not ready to date.” It’s important you include that last part; otherwise you leave yourself open to the “I don’t want anything serious either” argument.
Step 4- Feign homosexuality
Say, “I bat for the other team.” But before you do, take a moment to consider if you really want to go there.
Step 5- Plead insanity
Here, you have lots of options – you could talk about the police who are following you, dip in and out of the seven personalities you claim are living in your body, or wax poetic about your conversations with deceased historical figures.
Tip- Beware – your unwanted suitor will know you’re full of bull if you are later spotted kissing someone else.

What’s wrong with me
Old Flame flares up
I’ve been suffering from anxiety for as long as I can remember. Lately it’s been hard for me to control the attacks and the worst part is that I get them so randomly. One minute I’m happy, the next I’m sobbing and out of breath. I don’t have any reason to feel sad but I do. My close friend thinks I’m depressed but I don’t feel it. I’m stuck I don’t know what to do anymore.
I was with a guy who I thought didn’t have feelings for me. I left and was single for a while. He is much older than me. Now we bbm each other every day and he told me he really does love me and why don’t we make up..
Baby Dreams I love you. You love me. We live together. You’re my best friend in the ENTIRE world. It kills me every day that I’m not pregnant yet... We’ve been trying for a while now, and it breaks my heart that this isn’t happening for us.
I love everything about a female’s belly Ever since I was little I’ve always loved women’s bellies. I like listening to growls, putting my finger on a woman’s belly button, rubbing and kissing her belly. I’m sure it’s a bit weird but I love it!
Out of
control!
I eat too much sweet stuff! Too much! I have to admit. I am pretty ridiculous with it. I eat chocolate and cookies and drink soft drink for breakfast. Sometimes whatever I am eating is so sweet that I feel like it’s stuck in my throat. The good part is I don’t put on weight. I stay the same weight all the time and that encourages me to eat more sweets!
Hope
for Love I met up with an old friend from school and we’ve been in contact for a month now. Everything was going good until he said he was feeling randy. That turned me off right away. I told him about it and he apologised. I’m still talking to him and I hope everything goes alright.

This week we visited the elegant Buzo Restaurant at Warner Street, Newtown. We were warmly greeted by executive chef Cristian Grini, a passionate and spirited professional who was getting his team ready for another packed evening of diners. We even noticed all the servers gathered around the bar, tasting the spirits they were to offer so they could make informed suggestions to their guests. The kitchen was prepped and ready, the stone oven heated; we felt we were looking at top athletes getting ready for a big race. Cristian says he brings authentic Italian cuisine to his table. He has not altered the dishes to suit the Trini palette because he wants his guests to enjoy the dishes as they were intended to be served and savour the difference the freshest ingredients make. The Buzo folks have their own pasta room where pasta is made. The desserts are also baked there and the herbs and some of their greens come from private suppliers. Cristian says they take a lot of pride in what they do because they do it with absolute love. “We are very strict here because we want to bring an experience that cannot be had
anywhere else. The menu is constantly evolving and you can always find fresh new items to try.” Chef Cristian and his team had us try their Quattro Stagioni Pizza which had spicy salami, ham, artichoke, mushroom and mozzarella. The ingredients were not all mixed up; they sectioned in four quarters, so we had four different flavours to savour. That pizza would normally cost about $105. We also had their “Tagliatelle ai frutti di mare”, which was a black pasta with fresh calamari, shrimp, clams and mussels and the “Tortelli di Zucca al burro fus e salvia”, which was handmade pumpkin tortilli with butter noisette, sage, shiitake mushrooms and parmesan cheese. All the dishes were a treat to experience and the quality and taste was clear and distinctive in every bite. They are always very busy so we suggest reservations. They are open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. One lucky OMG Magazine reader and a guest will be going to Buzo Osteria Italiana. Just “like” the Express OMG Magazine page on Facebook and say, “I want Buzo” and you could be the lucky winner. If you cannot wait to try Buzo Osteria Italiana, then give them a call at 223-2896 or email buzo.trinidad@gmail. com and book your special evening out, your Christmas party, birthday or anniversary dinner. We are sure you will have a special time.

The OMG team headed to San Fernando this week to meet with John Michael Alibocus or Makamillion (“make a million”), as he now calls himself. He was previously known as Makaveli the party promoter and is the younger brother of Faye Alibocus, T&T’s 2003 Miss Universe representative. He is now the CEO of the Makamillion Millionaire Family, one of Trinidad and Tobago’s new crop of music production teams, with five artistes under his management. What’s happening these days with the Millionaire Family? Well we are doing music that can have a wide appeal, more crossover music. For this Carnival 2013 season we just released the “Casalini Riddim” with four more riddims coming soon, we starting off in a groovy vain. On that riddim we basically have Father Moses, Kerry John, Jah Mel, Revelation, our first lady, Diamond, and myself. We are also enjoying the success of Yankey Boy who won the Soca Monarch title in New York this year with the song “Bartender”, so that is a good look for the Millionaire Family. Also for this summer 2012 gone we had the big hit “Till Morning”. Tell us what the Makamillion Family is about? At the end of the day the Millionaire Family represents or is made up of youths, young people who are striving to become millionaires. It’s all about keeping youth out of trouble and following their purpose in life. What about you and your time in the business? I have been in the business about ten years now. I started as Makaveli Promotions. I did events for about seven years straight. I have done about 300 events so far. I managed clubs like Sting Nightclub and Living Room. I did University Star Fridays, VIP All Star Thursdays at the Edge Night Club. I did a lot of parties like Freedom, Zodiac Affair and a lot of south parties because I am from San Fernando. I am 28 years old, I’ve accomplished a lot and now I am looking to take it to the world, because music is one of the biggest forms of marketing. It’s like an angel – it flies. Just put it out onto the Internet and it goes everywhere in the world! Managing the Millionaire Family. What is that like? I basically look over the artistes’ music, make sure they put out work of a standard to represent Trinidad and Tobago, because the artistes in the Millionaire Family are ambassadors of T&T. So my whole thing is about taking music to that next level, making sure the standard of the music is correct and also I go out there to market it. I do the PR and marketing. Every day is a learning process for me. I have a dream and my dream is to see the Millionaire Family reach BET and MTV and just put soca music on a different level. Our style is different. It’s more dancehall and soca. Our style can play right through the year. We had two successful riddims this year which is the Shatta Glass Ribbim with the song “Traitors” and then the Summer Whistle with “Till Morning” and right now my song is number ten on Tempo. I want to say thanks to Machel for endorsing our video with 30 Rum. This year we did three shows in New York and three shows in Canada. I wish we could reach Paris and Europe… What’s important to you? This year I had to slow down a bit. I lost my mom this year. She died, but I want to say thank you to her and my dad because
WEEKLY ENTERTAINMENT MAGAZINE | Saturday November 03, 2012 Page 9 no matter what they were always there for me. It was really hard losing her because she was the one person who always supported me, believed in me. She always used to say, “John Michael have that star quality in him”. My present to her was doing music and showing her that I could do it and make her proud. My family always comes first. What excites you? Music is my love and my passion. With my music I get to express myself and I get to see people enjoy my music and that alone is the biggest joy ever. And your dislikes? Well boy, I have a lot to say about that. I feel you must never forget where you come from. You always have to remember the people who help you in life. You must never be a traitor to the people who put you where you are. Loyalty is what I stand for no matter what. I might not be the best manager or the best marketing manager, but it’s a learning process to become the best and sometimes people want things now, but it takes time and it takes a lot of hard work. So really and truly I dislike people who go behind your back and stab you, because they might not understand your vision because they might not be old enough. But I feel people must always be loyal and not lose themselves and never bite the hand that feeds them. The future for the Millionaire Family? I want to see youths who were poor become rich. This life is all about enjoying yourself before we go. Everybody have a time that they come and a time when they will go, so we just have to make the best of it and at the end of the day I just want to see all these youths that I help every day become what I see in them. Because there is not a lot of people out there who will see talent and want to help. So I always say if I could help a few make it, at least I tried. I want people to appreciate that about me and I leave back a legacy of people that I supported on their journey to the top. I want people to remember me for the good that I have done, not for the money that I made, or the image I portrayed and the bling or whatever, because that is just marketing. If you have a dream, get up and live your dream. Make it happen. Your wish? I wish that all the people who have a lot, share and spread their wealth. Not only money, but time, energy, support – being there for each other. Give your time and money to make people’s lives better. Try to help somebody, because the more we try the more our society will grow, even when the people who can help our music industry just don’t. I just want those people to open up their minds and realise there are a lot of people out here who are very talented and just need a little support. Your OMG moment? You ever see the cartoon Superman? This little boy fell out of the sky, these parents brought him up and at the age of 18 he realised he had some powers. He started to see better, run faster. He didn’t know these things about himself. This is my life. My life reminds me of the Superman cartoon. I never sang in my life as a youth, I never thought I would become a singer. I was always football, basketball. But one day everything in my life just switch. I transformed into a total artiste. Out of some negative things that happened to me, I went into the studio and this positive music career emerged and I became Makamillion, part of the Millionaire Family, leading a group, towards the world. OMG!

How to Party Your
Way to Better Health
How to Prevent
Computer Eyestrain Computer eyestrain can hurt productivity, but it’s easy to prevent if you take a few precautions. Step 1Turn down the lights
Close the blinds and turn off extra lights to reduce glare.
Tip - Use an anti-glare screen or computer hood if you can’t reduce the light in your office. Step 2Upgrade your monitor
Buy an LCD monitor, since older CRT monitors produce flicker, a major source of eyestrain. Use a monitor measuring at least 19 inches with a dot pitch of .28 millimetres or lower.
Tip- If you’re stuck with a CRT monitor, set the refresh rate as high as possible to reduce flicker. Step 3Look away
Look out a window or down a hall. Break
up computer work by focusing on a distant object every 20 minutes.
Step 4Blink more
Blink to keep your eyes moist. Blink 10 times, slowly, every half hour.
Step 5invest in a copy stand
Invest in a copy stand Use a copy stand and place it next to your monitor to reduce the distance your eyes must travel between page and screen.
Tip- Make sure printed materials are well lit, but don’t shine a lamp on the screen or in your eyes. Step 6Use computer glasses
Use computer glasses, which are designed specifically for the distance between your eyes and the computer screen.
We said it. Par. Tay. Being social (without overdoing it) can help reduce the risk of stroke, dementia and even the common cold. So get out there and make merry – your health may depend on it.
Step 1Drink responsibly
Have a drink with friends – moderate alcohol consumption in a supportive social setting can lower your risk of heart disease and stroke, and red wine may improve cardiovascular health.
Step 2Yuk it up
Embrace your inner comedian. Laughter can reduce stress and increase blood flow, which can in turn lower your risk for heart disease.
Tip- Laughing for 10 to 15 minutes burns up to 50 calories, meaning you might actually be able to laugh your butt off. Step 3Game on
Goof off. Play games that elevate your heart rate or that engage your mind. The first can help get your cardiovascular system into shape; the second can help stave off dementia.
Step 4Flirt
Flirt like a champ. Studies show those who do tend to have higher white blood-cell counts, which helps fight off infection.
Tip- Kissing can burn up to five calories per minute, so get your smooch on with that special someone! Step 5Relax
Take frequent vacations: a study shows a correlation between two or more vacations a year and lower rates of depression and improved quality of sleep.
Step 6Dance
Regular dancing has been shown to help lower the risk of dementia and osteoporosis; provide a great aerobic workout, and release endorphins for a natural, healthy high. Partying never felt so good!

Former football star Chad Johnson may once again be able to communicate with his ex-wife Evelyn Lozada – after allegedly head-butting her – because Evelyn plans to let the no-contact order against him expire. Sources close to the ex-couple say Chad’s on track to finish his batterer’s intervention programme in the next couple months – at which point he will ask the judge to terminate his probation and lift the no-contact order. If that happens, Evelyn would have to get a civil restraining
order to keep Chad away – but we’re told she has decided not to do that ... because she just wants to “move on”. Chad was sentenced to one year’s probation and the batterer’s class after pleading no contest to domestic battery following the August 11 fight with Evelyn – but since he’s completing the class early ... the judge can also lift the probation early. Despite Evelyn’s decision ... we’re told she does not want a reunion with Chad.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) – Buju Banton’s new attorney has asked a judge in Tampa to reconsider the 10-year prison sentence the Jamaican reggae singer is serving on two drug charges.
David Markus represented Banton in the singer’s two trials in Tampa in 2010 and 2011. He says Banton is eligible for a reduced sentence of five years and a day because he’s a first-time, non-violent offender with “the support of his entire country” and a history of charitable works.

Dabangg 2 comes two years after the first film which was a blockbuster. Salman’s role as Chulbul Pandey set the tone for several other similar characters. Sonakshi Sinha retains her role in this film which will have Prakash Raj playing the villain. Bring on the wolf whistles! Meanwhile on the sets of Dabangg 2, Salman Khan was heard animatedly discussing action sequences with the filmmaker, Prabhu Deva. Salman and Prabhu is a team that revived the trend of remaking south-based films.
Are cinema fans in Trinidad going to have Dabangg 2 with the rest of the world this Christmas? We are certain that in keeping with their responsibility to provide entertainment to all segments of the society, local exhibitors of Bollywood movies, would undoubtedly facilitate same.

Man Sues ‘Ugly’ Wife For Using Plastic Surgery To Trick Him Into Marriage Jian Feng divorced his wife after she gave birth to an “incredibly ugly” baby (his words) that didn’t resemble either of them, causing him to accuse her of cheating. That’s when she admitted spending almost $100,000 on plastic surgery to undergo the transformation seen at right. Was it money well spent? Beauty is only skin deep? No, in this case it really was money well spent. Maybe.
She had the work done before she met her husband and never told him about it after they met. Mr Feng filed for divorce saying his wife had deceived him and convinced him to marry her under false pretences. The judge agreed with him and awarded him the damages.
