How to make a relationship last
How to prove your love
Looking to forge a loving, lifelong bond? With a few tips, you can make your relationship last a lifetime.
Step 1 Work together
Make your partner your teammate. Genuinely cheer their successes, and pick up the slack and offer support when they face difficult personal issues. Remember: few teams that give in to personal rivalries ever go all the way.
Step 2 Share your needs
Identify the people, activities, and attitudes that matter to you -psychologists have found that people who are true to themselves are better at building intimate relationships.
Tip - Let your partner know if your priorities change and give them a chance to adjust their behaviour. Step 3 Open up
If something your partner does or says bothers you, tell them -- research shows that couples that express their anger may live longer than those who bottle up their emotions. Don’t be petty, though -- pick your battles wisely to avoid burying your partner in criticism.
Tip - If you criticise, do it in a constructive way -destructive criticism has been shown to cause anger and tension. Step 4 Mix it up
Keep things interesting -- studies have revealed that boredom is a relationship-killer. Find a shared passion with new activities to explore together and bond over.
Step 5 Get it on
Spice up your sex life, too. Try new positions, find unexpected moments, or delve into fantasy -- whatever helps you fan the flames of passion.
Step 6 Be patient
Prepare to work at your relationship -- a mutual understanding develops gradually. The more time you and your partner devote to making your relationship strong, the longer it will last.
If your relationship is stagnating, this guide will help rekindle your love life in creative ways.
Step 1 Return to flirting
Return to flirting with your significant other. A little attention can prove more than any quote or song lyric.
Step 2 Go high tech
Post a custom playlist of MP3s online and gift it to your love or have someone help create a sultry video and email it to them.
Tip - Many websites allow you to protect your personal videos with an encryption or a password. Step 3 Plan a vacation together
Plan a vacation or getaway together and leave the laptops and other electronic devices at home.
Step 4 Fix a keepsake
Fix a keepsake, such as a watch or a piece of jewelry, or frame a special photo and give it back to your love as a surprise present.
Step 5 Do their chores
Pick a day and sneak home from work to clean the house or apartment, or complete a few chores to give your true love a carefree evening.

So many questions…
The day after I got my licence I bumped into a car in a parking lot. There was no real damage to my car but I left a definite dent in the car I bumped into. There was no one around and I just drove away. I’ve felt unbelievably guilty about it ever since. I realise that it was a completely dishonest, awful thing to do, but I didn’t get the licence number. I realise it’s no good to feel so bad after the fact but I don’t know what to do.
Every night I lie awake wondering, why I am here? Why do we exist? What causes us to care? Why are bonds made with each other when they are destined to be broken by death? Sometimes it really feels like this is all a dream and I’m just waiting to wake up… but when will it happen? This stage called life –you will forever leave me lost in thought…
SWEET LIE
When Trey Songz came to Tobago for the Jazz Festival I told my grandmother who I live with that I was just going by my co-worker for two days because she was going through a “ruff” time and I wanted to keep her company. I feel bad because we actually went Tobago to see Trey! Well worth it though… he is just so sexy! Lol.
Those days I remember when I was younger I used to duck school to ride maxi all day just to hear Gaza music. Wow, I was young and stupid but it sure was fun…
STALKER My ex and I live together now but we are just friends. She met this girl that she really likes and cares for…but a couple days ago she called the girl from my phone and the girl called back. So long story short, the girl called and said she likes me and doesn’t want to be with my ex… I told her I’m not interested but she keeps calling me and stalking me on Facebook and stuff. I am beginning to get scared… she seems way too crazy. I am kind of happy my ex won’t end up with her. It’s best that she isn’t with a crazy person.
Good feelings Every morning there is a good feeling inside me. I’m always up early, get to work early and also help those in need on my job as well. Just one thing is missing – a girlfriend. But say what, my good feeling comes first and I’m gonna have a lot of fun, no matter what I do.
u o y g n i If lov . . . g n o is wr I really like this person, he is really handsome. The first time we met, it was raining and both of us were sheltering in the same area and, well, we started to talk. There were many conversations after that and I realised we had a lot in common; we both exercise in the same place, both of our names start with the letter A, we are both the same age and, oh yeah, we are both are males. The thing about it is that we both look straight so I don’t know if he is gay. I don’t want to make the first move. Next thing he isn’t, and I mess up our friendship. OMG! I don’t know what to do. Am I going to keep on living a lonely life?

Little Shop of Horrors The award-winning Broadway musical Little Shop of Horrors ends its run at Queen’s Hall tomorrow. If you did not make it, you missed out on a piece of theatre reminiscent of the 60s and 70s in Trinidad and Tobago.
Little Shop of Horrors is based on a 1960 black comedy film by director Roger Corman. The musical by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman featured music in the vein of early rock and roll, doo-wop, and early Motown. The production mixes rock and R&B music with a campy and macabre script to fantastic results. It’s great music, fun characters and alien invasions.
The show, set in Skid Row with 100 per cent live music and singing, is full of surprises: The master puppetry of an alien plant AudreyII; the vocal range of the female lead, Aurora Tardieu who brought the dim-witted Audrey to life, drew the audience into her world of sordid men with the sadistic Dr Orin Scrivello, played by Mark Ewing; and tender romance with the male lead, the mousy Seymour Krelborn played by Marvin Dowridge.
At the heart of the story is an alien plant, whose voice and personality complete the picture of life on Skid Row. The singing voice of the plant, Stefan Simmons, combined with the mechanics makes Audrey II the star of the show for children and a mystery for adults. The last two shows are tomorrow at 2 and 6 pm. Tickets are available at the box office.

chapter
Raymond Choo Kong is a theatre icon. His is the first name many people will call when they think of theatre in Trinidad and Tobago. But they often get his last name wrong. Many say Choo Fong, others Choo Chong, some even say Cheki Chong, but his real, full name is Raymond Choo Kong. He has been in theatre for over 30 years and his comedic acting is what he is recognised for, his keen directing skills are critically acclaimed and as a theatre producer, he is one of the most successful in the country. Three very different hats with very different skills and he has mastered them all. The proof is in his many consistently packed houses over the years. “I’ve always said I am one of the luckiest people I know. I’ve managed to live by theatre, but I’ve not worked a day in my life because I enjoy what I do.”
For three decades Raymond has done countless productions and projects that fully utilised all his talents. He however started 2012 anxious to do more and to explore his creative side, pursue theatre productions that were more dramatic and yet still entertaining. The projects he did were excellent, like State of the Union, Coming Home and The Sound of Music – all critically acclaimed – but the audiences were not there. It confirmed what he knew all along: Trini audiences want to laugh when they go to the theatre and if you don’t do comedy you are not going to make money.
His happiness in theatre these days comes from imparting his knowledge to younger ones in the field. While not wanting to sound like “yoda” from Star Wars, Raymond says “When you get to my age, passing on the knowledge you’ve gained from experience is the natural thing to do. It is all about passing it on. I am working on a play now called How It Hang It Swing. Besides Cecilia Salazar the entire cast is young and there is so much the young cast has to learn and Cecilia who is a seasoned professional gets it from the first read, but one has to wait for the younger ones to learn how to breathe, how to interpret lines. It takes a lot out of you, plus time and patience, but that is where the work is for me now, imparting. The good news is they are blossoming beautifully.” When asked where is the next theatre star who can fill the auditorium Raymond says, “I feel there are two types of actors, one the audience likes and the other they don’t like. Like Richard Ragoobarsingh and I, we can be playing the villain, the audience will like us. On the hand there are other brilliant actors who are tremendous talents and they don’t warm up to them, like they do us. So I am not sure what creates that connection with the audience or who will be the next person to come along and take that role. I don’t want to sing the good old days song for you, but when we started learning theatre craft at Trinidad Tent Theatre with Helen Camps, we worked for ten years without pay, we where so interested in learning the craft. These days a young person who has done one play, wants to demand a salary, they want to let you know what they feel they are worth. Most times that is very off-putting, because you have to then decide, do I want to invest in making this person a star by giving them the roles and the training, the marketing and promotion it takes to create a star, who in the end the audience decides if they like them. So as a producer do you want to invest in that?”
Raymond feels there are not enough trained actors coming into the theatre. He has seen many people with degrees in acting not being able to interpret scenes and give credible portrayals. He feels that more people who are successfully doing it as a career should guide or inform the teachers and syllabus so that when actors graduate they will be able to do the basics that will make them employable.
Raymond dislikes dishonesty. He says: “Dishonesty is a big word in the theatre, because in acting there is no right or wrong, there is just honest. Because the actor cannot judge the character he is playing he just has to be honest and interpret what the character is feeling. It’s a good life lesson because if you are a person who lives like that and can be honest in the moment and expect it from the people you interact with you open up your life and the people that deal with you to an enlightened and invigorating association.” When asked what makes him happy these days, he lit up and said with pride, “My grandson, yeah, my grandson. Every time I get tied down with certain things, or things get difficult, all I have to do is go downstairs and play with him for five minutes and everything seems normal again. Things get back in perspective. One of the other things that get me extremely fulfilled is when
I am directing an actor for a long while, and seeing the moment when he gets it, they really understand and hit the mark. I love when that happens, seeing people achieving their goal, that makes me happy.” When asked about his biggest OMG moment, he said, “Oh gorm in my life there have been so many. One OMG moment boy? I would have to go back to my grandson, looking at him evolve. From being a baby, that blank slate, to being where he is now, where everything he hears and sees he repeats and you see that learning process? Actually seeing that happening in a human being is fascinating to me. I doh know how many parents get the chance to stop and marvel at that, but as the grandparent you get to enjoy every wonderful moment, OMG how beautiful”.

TRACK AND FIELD
For as long as Eliseo can remember he has been sprinting. Whenever things get tough he sprints; it makes him very happy. He was one of the best runners at Arima Centenary Government School and also at his high school. He loves sprinting with a passion and wants to be one of the best in the world. At the moment he is a member of the Eastonians club which is run by coach Buggy Haynes, whom he credits for everything he has achieved in sprinting. He said he had a rough childhood but running kept him focused and on the right track. He loves the gym and taking care of his body and keeping fit. The support of his friends and his coach has given him the inspiration to do better. To keep fit he does 1,000 pushups, sit-ups and crunches every day. Many people might be put off by his self-confident and cocky attitude, but he believes if you can’t love yourself, then you can’t love anyone else. His biggest OMG moment was realising he had finally built the body he always wanted.

HOW
TO’S
Spot frenemies Step 1 - Gauge their reactions
Notice how they react when you have good news. Do they seem genuinely happy for you, or do they respond with barbed comments and backhanded compliments?
Step 2 - Assess their supportiveness
Assess their supportiveness. Do they sabotage your self-improvement efforts – perhaps even egg you on to be self-destructive? A true friend has your best interests at heart.
Step 3 - Misery loves company
Ask yourself if your misery attracts their company. Frenemies like you best when you’re at your worst.
Step 4 - Note how you feel around them
If your obsessive thoughts are affecting your ability to function in your work and relationships, seek professional help.
Obsessive thoughts can range from constantly thinking about your weight to worrying about whether you turned off all the appliances before leaving the house. Here are some ways to stop those persistent thoughts.
Step1 - Be determined to overcome your problem
Remind yourself that your obsessive thoughts represent an anxiety problem, and struggling with them does not mean you lack character or willpower.
Step 5 - Note how you behave around them
Check how you behave around them. Do they bring out the best or worst in you? Frenemies do the latter.
Step 6 - Examine your own conscience
Check how you feel after you’ve spent time with them: Good friends are uplifting; frenemies leave you feeling annoyed with them or bad about yourself. Or both.
WARNING
Tip - If you both cancel plans more than you keep them, you might be frenemies.
Examine your own conscience. Do any of the preceding bad behaviours apply to the way you treat any of your pals? If so, my friend, you yourself could be a frenemy!
Stop obsessing Step 2 - Identify your areas of vulnerability
Identify your fears and doubts, because doing so can release some of their power over you.
Step 3 - Stop obsessing, start addressing
Address the worries and fears that trigger your obsessive thinking. For example, if you’re obsessed with the thought that your boss hates you, speak to them, and if necessary, clear the air.
Step 4 - Forget what you can’t fix
Accept that some things you obsess about are out of your control.
Step 5 - Join a support group
Check out a support group online or in your area to share and cope with others in dealing with and overcoming obsessive thoughts.
Step 6 - Get professional help
If you’ve done what you can on your own, but you still can’t stop obsessing, consider seeking professional help. Cognitive behavioral therapy is often effective, and so is medication.
Tip – It may help to sit down and write a detailed list of your concerns.

Shanghai an engaging thriller! Our reviewer just got out of the screening of Dibakar Banerjee’s Shanghai, and he can’t stop raving about it.
top5
Here’s what our reviewer told us as soon as he walked out of the theatre, after watching Shanghai: “The film is hardly one hour-fifty minutes long, and you wish that there was no interval. You don’t need one when you are watching a crisp and thrilling film like this one! It’s an engaging thriller with a political backdrop, and the performances are mind blowing. Kalki Koechlin is fabulous. Pitobash Tripathy is superb. Abhay Deol has captured

the nuances of the south Indian accent perfectly. He is restrained and strong. But the star of the show is Emraan Hashmi. It might turn out to be too intelligent for Emraan Hashmi fans who generally come to see him smooch his leading lady. So we will have to wait and see if a brilliant film like this is lapped up at the box office or not. Shanghai shocks, engages and makes a powerful statement. Dibakar lives up to the standards he has set for himself.”

Oprah: 5 things I learned from Fiddy In the car having just left Curtis Jackson, aka 50 Cent. Gotta say, he was quite surprising. We talked for two hours. Here are five things I learned from Fiddy: 1. He meditates regularly. 2. Received his mantra from Deepak Chopra, whose book he’s currently reading. 3. He was not allowed to use curse words in his grandmother’s house and still follows that rule.
4. A recent conversation with philanthropist Ray Chambers was life-changing for him. And my favourite.... 5. He believes you should either pray or worry...no need for both. Great conversation about rap culture, fatherhood, love, and life. He describes himself as two people—Curtis and 50 Cent—I was fascinated to hear his description of them both. Really glad I did it. Really liked him.

Dee Jay Daniels (real name: Dorjan Lyndell Daniels), former child star of “The Hughleys,” was arrested in California on possession of marijuana, premeditated murder and gang activity charges in connection with a fatal stabbing, reports E! News. The 23-year-old actor, who has also
appeared on “ER,” “Grace Under Fire” and “Family Matters,” was reportedly one of three men who allegedly stabbed 26-year-old John Joseph outside Chitivah’s nightclub in Stockton, Calif., in August 2011. At the time, Stockton police said the incident was sparked by a feud between rival Crips and Bloods gang members. Daniels, who faces life behind bars if convicted, is currently being held in San Joaquin County jail with no bail, reports Radar Online.
