Prevent

emotional infidelity

An affair of the heart can be every bit as painful – and sometimes even more so – than a physical one. Safeguard your relationship with these tips.

Step 1

Know the difference between a platonic friendship and an emotional affair: The line’s been crossed if there’s continual sexual tension, secrecy, or an emotional connection you don’t share with your partner.

Step 2

Beware of the “office spouse.” If you’re the one with a sexually charged friendship at work, limit personal conversations and don’t allow the bantering to spill into after-office hours. If your mate seems to be getting too close to a colleague, remind them – without acting overtly insecure – to keep the relationship professional.

Step 3

Step 5

Be alert for signs that a partner has a special online relationship: spending an inordinate amount of time on their computer, or changing their screen when you enter the room. If this is the case, be blunt about your suspicions. That may be enough to nip it in the bud.

Know the reasons people cheat, even if it’s just in their heart: loneliness, the need for attention, sexual frustration, and a desire for romance. Making an effort to keep things happy at home can reduce the chances that either partner will go outside the relationship.

Tip – If you’re the one getting frisky with an online friend, ask yourself if your partner would be upset to read your e-mail or instant messages. If the answer is “yes,” you’re already cheating.

If you find yourself physically attracted to someone, whether it’s a colleague, an old friend who’s resurfaced, or an online buddy, don’t pursue a deep friendship with them – you’ll be playing with fire. If it’s your partner who’s giddy around someone who’s “just a friend,” tell them to find friends they don’t have a crush on.

Step 6

Step 4

Keep tabs on emotional intimacy. If your partner is not confiding in you like they used to, it’s possible they’re talking over their problems with someone else. If you’re the one revealing private thoughts elsewhere, try to reconnect on that level in your relationship.

Move in without killing each other Step 1 - Be sure

Make sure you’re moving in together for the right reasons. Moving in to fix your relationship problems may make those problems worse.

Step 2 - Make it home

Make your new place feel like home. With a positive attitude and willingness to compromise, work with your partner to organize and decorate each room.

Tip - Get rid of duplicate items, keeping the better of the two collections. Step 3 - Define normal

Define what you consider normal behaviour in a household. Find a happy medium with your partner, and respect their quirks and habits.

Step 4 - Divide chores

Divide chores and create a chore list. Make sure you both feel the list is divided equally.

Step 5 - Assign responsibilities

Choose responsibilities ahead of time. Make clear what you expect from each other before you move.

Step 6 - Set aside time away from each other.

By giving each other space, you’ll appreciate your time together even more.

Step 7 -Be flexible and listen to each other’s needs.

Work together to make both parties happy, and moving in will be a lot easier.

Step 8 - Be alone

Set aside time away from each other. By giving each other space, you’ll appreciate your time together even more.

Step 9 - Be flexible

Be flexible and listen to each other’s needs. Work together to make both parties happy, and moving in will be a lot easier.

I’m addicted! I have cheated on my boyfriend of two years. I can’t seem to help myself . Since we have been together I have cheated on him at least 100 times with two different people. I stopped for a couple of months now but I’m starting to feel the urge to start back cheating. Maybe I’m a sex addict.

Shivers down My life is a lie I told my friends I have kissed a girl before but I never have. My whole life seems to be a lie. I just wanted to fit in. I have told people I used to party a lot and that I’ve had three girlfriends but fact is they were all online girlfriends. I’m a loser.

Wow, he sure knows how to pick them! My friend constantly speaks to me about the relationship he has with this girl he met on Facebook. He decided it was time I met her, so he introduced me as his brother and best friend. I shook her hand, checked her out and said, “Hmmm, lucky fellow”. She smiled and said, “I’ve heard lots about you…” Later, while hanging out, I felt this tension, as if someone was staring at me. I looked over my shoulder; it was my friend’s girl staring at me with love in her eyes… checking me out. Later that evening I pulled my friend aside and explained the situation to him. He shrugged and said, “nah Dred, you’re overreacting…” next day she found me on Facebook, added me and was asking me out and hinting what she would like to do to me if she got the chance… What should I do?

Huge fan! I have a confession to make. Here it goes... I am a WWE fan. Yes, I said it. I don’t care that the fights are scripted. I just love it, especially wrestlers like CM PUNK, Randy Orton, Sheamus, Kofi and let’s not forget John Cena.

You love me? Then prove it!

I gave you my all but you screwed up our relationship. I guess it was too good to be true. I forgave you but I haven’t forgotten. You claim I’m different now. Should I be the same? You desperately want us to work out? Well then show it. Let’s get some professional help! Oh yeah, I encouraged you to try it once. You couldn’t handle the repressed truth…We broke up and got back together. When you realised those guys weren’t really interested in you. Sorry babe…I love you but the old me is gone, never to return, with a peace of mind never to have to deal with you again.

my spine I always had a huge crush on my boyfriend’s best friend. I knew it was wrong but I couldn’t help myself. He was totally awesome and hot and he also thought I was hot. Just by the way he stared at me, he sent shivers down my spine. So one Saturday at around noon he invited me to the movies at Trincity Mall. In my heart, I knew it was wrong but the word “sure” came out of my mouth. At first I felt bad but, then I thought of how sexy he was and felt better. So immediately I searched my closest for the sexiest outfit. I was so excited. When we arrived at the theatre all the good movies were sold out, so we settled to watch anything. We sat very close together and then it happened – he leaned over kissed me on my lips. I melted. I wanted so much more. OMG! I forgot about where I was because I was fulfilling my biggest fantasy. That was the best movie I ever saw. My boyfriend didn’t suspect a thing and my crush and I carried out this little affair for almost one year.

Determined to get her man

We met when we were 17 and fell in love as soon as we first saw each other. We dated for three months. I was a fool to let you go because of my pride. Years later we met and we got a second chance. We tried it yet again and it didn’t work out, but we always felt the same way about each other, even after that long absence. Years passed again and I got married and you got engaged. We found each other on Facebook and acted like if we are just friends. Yet every day I yearn for your love. I yearn for it because I know we are meant for each other, maybe not in this lifetime but in another. I was meant to be yours and I believe God has a way of us finding our way back to each other and you know that too baby. You were my sugar and still are! I love you sweetheart, and oh, I hate how she uses the nickname I gave you. I think you told her about that name because you like being called that because of me! But that’s my nickname for you honey! I love you baby and will always be in love with you and when I get you back this time it will be forever and we will be married and have our babies. I promise you that!

All Out Sports Bar and Gourmet Grill The next big football match is on and you and your friends are wondering where you can watch your game and have a great time. Well, the OMG crew are excited to let you know about All Out Sports Bar, located at the Queen’s Park Oval, near the Tragarete Road entrance. General Manager Vernal Crooms says it is the premier destination for sporting events like cricket, football, boxing, basketball etc. All Out is a traditional Irish pub but with a true Trini spirit. They have a lot of international guests and regulars who make All Out their daily watering hole. The bar is just over two years old and is open seven days a week, including holidays. The decor is clean and comfortable and video screens cover the walls, so you will always have a great seat. In addition to an impressive list of drinks and cocktails, we were happy to discover that All Out had genuine Guinness via draft, plus lots of traditional English ales and ciders. Discovering the food is the favourite part of these OMG Hang Out visits and the All Out staffers boast of their Bangers and Mash, a traditional English dish, which is a sausage and mash potato served with beans. We had the good fortune to sample their huge Texas burger which was perfectly done, well-seasoned and big enough to knock out the most aggressive burger lover. The ribs were soft and juicy, the shrimp perfectly cooked and the wings were oh-so-satisfying. The food is excellent

and you can even have geera pork on a Sunday. As if that was not enough they have their own signature pizza which we were able to sample and, again, it did not come up short. The price range is also very acceptable, so pizzas will run you from $75 to $110, burgers from $75 and appetisers from $50, which still leaves you with enough cash to grab some drinks. As you leave or enter you will notice the iconic red English phone booth but the All Out version houses a breathalyser, ready to test your “levels”. It is under repairs right now because if you have even one beer it says you are over your limit. As usual an OMG Magazine reader and a friend will be going to All Out for an evening. All you have to do is go to the Express OMG Magazine page on Facebook and say “I want All Out” and you can be chosen to have this great experience. If you can’t wait for the chance and want to head on down yourself, you can just drop in. It is on Tragarete Road and on the Oval compound. You can give them a call at 622 6730. Yet another great place to hang out and spend your evening. If you know of a place you feel the OMG Magazine Hang Out crew should check, you can send us the name and contact at info@omgtt.com and we will give them a try.

WEEKLY ENTERTAINMENT MAGAZINE | Saturday June 30, 2012 Page 7 A handful of local entrepreneurs have A handful of local entrepreneurs have pioneered the way in using fashion merchandising to promote events and vice versa: Island People, Kwesi “Hoppy” Hopkinson and his Flam Couture and Meiling, to mention a few. Enter Kevon Walker and “Current!” Kevon is a producer/ DJ and men’s fashion re-seller operating in collaboration with Paula Francis out of her Pink Cherri, Woodbrook’s only functioning adult fashion, fetish wear and accoutrement store (and former location of Flam Couture).

“Current!”, on the other hand, is the newest switch on the dance party circuit. The first edition in the series of monthly events will play out just off the Avenue, round the corner from the store. The 33 Murray Street location has been at the heart of the suburban party underground since the 80s and is now transforming itself into a mainstream off Avenue venue, hosting sold - out performances by bands like 3Canal and becoming home to the Night Gallery, the new, free, public art experience that opens from 6 pm nightly. “Current!” is Friday 6th July and will feature high voltage performances by DJs Jerry West, NYSA (Selector Neo and KD Walker), Laza Beam feat. Vanna Vee, and The Blitz Project. For tickets and outfits visit Pink Cherri, the walkdown opposite Republic Bank on The Avenue.

the Junior Soca Monarch contest. At the age 20 he gained considerable recognition on Synergy Soca Stars and was able to use that opportunity to go to the next level, not only as a competent performer but also as a writer. He remembers Tony Prescott telling him of how proud he was of how far he is taking his talents. Kimba believes that there is no one project or song that does it but it is a long journey of consistent hard work and determination that creates an artiste and if you don’t really love this business and this work there is no way you will succeed in it. Kimba wants to continuously push himself to do new and do better. He wants to be that different voice in the musical landscape of Trinidad and Tobago. He wants to add value to the music scene by not being afraid to try different things, doing what he thinks is the right thing to do. He feels without conflict there is no growth. His strong will and self-confidence, he says, come from his mother and father and were highlighted in the first calypso he wrote. All his time is spent with his music and he would like to do more song-writing. He has done songs for JW and Blaze – “We Time” and “Rude Gyal”, co-wrote “Head Bad on the Road” with Michelle X and Kes and co-wrote “Nah Going Home” with Machel Montano. As the years progress he can feel his song-writing skills getting better. When asked what makes a hit song, Kimba says, “who knows boy, who knows. To me a hit song is when you get a great melody that sticks in your head and you can remember a melody and hum it even when you don’t know the words, so I really believe that a strong melody is the gateway to a great song. A hit is a whole other story.” Kimba’s OMG moment came recently when he was nominated for Best New Soca Artiste at the International Soca Awards. He says, “You know when you work hard and do the best you can and most times you feel that people don’t recognise or are not paying attention to the work you are doing, so when the nomination was mentioned, it was really a great feeling that the work is being appreciated and people are taking note”.

Best Android health and fitness apps Buying a smartphone is truly an investment. With the help of these eight apps, you can say goodbye to that monthly gym membership fee and train yourself to your desired body and weight with little to no cost at all (of course, after the data plan you need to download all of these). If you’ve got the motivation, the following apps will get you working out and eating well just in time to finally crack into that New Year Resolution.

Runkeeper (Free)

To lose overall body fat and maintain a steady cardiovascular exercise, running is your best and cheapest option. Runkeeper will keep track of your running speed, distance, calories lost, heart rate, and running time just like you would find on a treadmill. Updates to the app also include an Autopause function that recognises when you stop moving (in case you come across a traffic light). If you recently bought the Pebble off Kickstarter, the app is also integrated directly with the smartwatch.

Jefit (Free | Pro: US$5)

Jefit helps you select any target muscle you want to work out and gives you a particular exercise along with suggested reps and sets under an interval timer. You can also create a Jefit profile and take pictures of yourself to keep a visual progress. The range of more than 500+ exercises lets you determine your own customised routine to a body, building your way to your preferred perfection. It will also autocalculate your Body Mass Index to make sure all’s well and healthy.

Workout Trainer (Free)

Like Jefit, Workout Trainer gives you a comprehensive list of exercises to perform depending on the areas you want to work on. The exercises are great for those who want to work out at home without the use of gym equipment, and provides a graphic instructional video to show examples of routines. Workout Trainer provides recommended programs as well as the ability the share your workout progress so you and your friends can encourage each other to keep things fit.

Calorie Counter MyFitnessPal (Free)

Exercise isn’t just about how much you work out but also about the food you consume.

With Calorie Counter, you can input your height, weight, and gender before selecting a goal weight, whether it’s to maintain, gain, or lose. The app will continue to record you daily weight and food consumption to see where you should increase or decrease caloric intake to match your weight goal. You can also use the barcode scanner to directly detect food calories when you’re out shopping in the supermarket.

Lose It! (Free)

Set your own food schedule with Lose It! by planning a meal regime that fits with your caloric needs. The app lets you divide meals by breakfast, lunch, and dinner along with the exercise you plan to do to burn those calories. The whole thing works in a budget system: How much will you allow yourself to eat today and how much of it will you burn? Get friends to join so you can keep a whole community of people looking for healthful living.

Fooducate (Free)

Like the barcode scanner in Calorie Counter, Fooducate focuses primarily on scanning product barcodes for calorie information. Fooducate also takes things a step further by showing you the good and bad of a certain food item, and recommendations for substitutes if you choose to not buy that particular product. Each food item also has a rating as well as a calories per serving comparison to the average product in its category to help you make the healthiest food choices.

Instant Heart Rate (Free | Pro: US$1)

You can run for a mile then stop to manually measure your heart rate by placing your fingers on your neck or wrist and count the pulses, or let your smartphone do the work. Instant Heart Rate measures your pulses by allowing you to place your finger in front of your phone’s camera and track the color changes on your fingertip to determine heart rate. Sounds crazy, but it sure beats counting your own numbers and doing the math after a big workout.

Daily Yoga

If you’re more of a relaxed, yoga type of exerciser, Daily Yoga will allow you to look up poses to match the body areas you wish to target. The app is best for those who have specific muscles they prefer working out as the apps for each section come separately, but each app comes with instructional photos and timer to keep track of your exercise. A voice narration also speaks aloud to let you focus on working out rather than staring at the phone.

Get your kids out of bed and HOW

out the door

TO’S

Fact- Kids ages six to nine need about 10 hours of sleep a night, while kids ages 10 to 12 need just a little over nine hours per night.

Step 1

Make sure kids have enough time to wind down at the end of the day so they can get a good night’s rest. Turn off the TV, computer games, and music early in the evening so they fall asleep more easily.

Step 2

Choose outfits the night before and set them aside, and pack homework and supplies in schoolbags and leave them by the door. This will save time in the morning.

Step 3

Let older kids set the alarm clock so it becomes a habit. Younger kids can be woken up with a gentle nudge from parents.

Step 4

Schedule time for breakfast. A healthy morning meal can stimulate learning and make kids more attentive in class.

Tip - Include a mix of complex carbs, like whole grain toast or cereal, and protein, like eggs. Step 5

Keep the television turned off and leave toys out of the morning routine. Fewer distractions will keep everyone on track.

Tricia Oliveire

We came across some very impressive cakes on Facebook that reminded us of the excellent and creative work of the team from “Ace of Cakes” on Food Network. We decided to call the talented local baker behind them and were delighted to meet Tricia Oliveire. Tricia is a chef by profession. She began her culinary career at the age of 18. Most of her experience was gained from working with renowned chef Joe Brown as a junior sous chef. After eight exciting years in the kitchen she was ready to try new things, so she took a six-month cake-decorating course with Erma Hannse whose work she admired. This tied in neatly with her artistic inclinations. Artistic expression has always been part of her life. A chronic doodler, she would find herself drawing on anything she could put her hands on. So in a sense her cake decorating activities allowed her to continue and build on that creativity. Tricia was so pleased with the results of her new passion she placed a photo of her cake on Facebook. From there interest, and orders, started coming

artistof the week

in. Her first real order came from a friend who was getting married. Tricia and her husband decided that they needed a name and so The Brown Box was born – when she assembles her cake boxes she folds them so that the brown part is outside and the cake is placed on the white side. Orders started coming through Facebook and they have been consistent and growing. Many times Tricia has had to suspend accepting orders to ensure she has the time to deliver the best cake possible. She started with just a few likes on Facebook but things have blossomed over the months. All her marketing and customers come via Facebook. Since she is a one-woman operation she tries to not give out a phone contact but asks potential clients to fill out her job request form online. That way she can assess and cost the cake and be more efficient with her time and delivery. She is clearly a very organised and meticulous young woman who has found success pursuing her passion. Hers is a totally integrated Facebook operation: she expands her client base, does her marketing, takes orders and delivers the final product through Facebook. So the next time you find yourself wasting time on the social network, just know there are others who are making a living, defining their careers and charting their way forward using the same Facebook. If you want to order your own one-of-a-kind creation, just log on to Facebook and search for “The Brown Box”. Tricia will be happy to help you.

Tony Parker is suing WiP nightclub in New York City over injuries received in the Chris Brown and Drake fight. The infamous Chris Brown and Drake brawl at the downtown Manhattan hotspot last week will not go away anytime soon.

The official police report alleges that members of Drake’s entourage stopped Chris Brown and his party while he was leaving the club.

Just days after four of the victims injured in the brawl hinted at a lawsuit, another victim, NBA star Tony Parker, announced a multimillion dollar lawsuit against the club after receiving scratches to his retina in the brawl. According to reports, the suit

was filed in State Supreme Court in Manhattan on Thursday and contends that the W.i.P club in SoHo and its operators were negligent in security and supervision, which allowed the fight to take place.

Eight people were injured including Chris Brown, his girlfriend Karrueche Tran and one of his bodyguards. The operators of the club have since shut it down after numerous violations and noise.

We know, we were surprised too! But the evidence is pretty convincing. See for yourself in the photo at left! On the right is standard issue Leo circa 1996. And on the left is a photo found by a Tumblogger in her grandmother’s vintage yearbook, depicting a woman known as Judy Zipper in 1960. The resemblance is pretty eerie. That smile, those mischievous eyes, it’s all pure Di Caprio! Or should we say,

pure Zipper…? Who knows when he switched genders, but we’re guessing it was sometime in the 1980s. This is not the first case of Hollywood celebrities turning out to be time-travelling swashbucklers. Nicolas Cage was famously outed as a time-travelling vampire last fall, and a photo of John Travolta in 1860 turned up on eBay around the same time. Thank God we have the Internet to expose all of these era-jumping Oscarnominated immortals! But the important question is, what do they want? Elaborate tombs for resting? The blood of masseurs? Outrageously expensive hybrid cars? We may never know. Maybe they just want a part in Twilight?

‘Teri Meri Kahaani’ or ‘Gangs of Waseeypur’? Buzz has it that these two films are likely to eat into each other’s profits, but we think that TMK and GOW cater to completely different audiences. There’s a clear choice for cinema lover. Young college-goers will definitely queue up outside the ticket windows to watch Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra setting the screen on fire with their undeniable chemistry in Teri Meri Kahaani. And then you have Anurag Kashyap’s much talked about

and critically acclaimed Gangs of Wasseypur, which will entertain its audiences thoroughly. The two films are from completely different genres. While Kunal Kohli’s production is a mushy love story (in fact, there are three love stories in the movie), Anurag Kashyap’s film has a grey tone and is strictly adult. Trade pundits opine that the two films should not have been released on the same date, as there is a possibility of a clash between them, each potentially eating into each other’s profits.
