How to achieve intimacy If you’re about as warm and fuzzy as a cactus, these tips will help you get a little closer to your significant other and show them how much you care.

TV, drawing the curtains, and lighting some candles. Make it just about the two of you and the moment.

Step 1 - Make eye contact

Reconnect over a shared experience, such as cooking dinner together, taking a pottery class, or going to a baseball game.

Make eye contact with your partner when you talk to them – don’t be shy. Give them all of your attention to build trust and increase the intimacy in any relationship.

Step 2 - Whisper sweet nothings

Whisper sweet nothings into your partner’s ear. Leave a note or two around the house to let them know you’re thinking about them – even when you’re not around.

Tip – A text message or e-mail can be just as romantic, but be wary of who else may be eavesdropping. Step 3 - Set the scene

Set the scene, putting away cell phones, turning off the

Step 4 - Reconnect in your marriage

Tip – Low-key options include cuddling on the couch with a favourite movie and reading a book together. Step 5 - Be open

Be open and vulnerable to your partner. Share your deepest feelings, including your dreams and fears. This kind of honesty will bring you both closer to one another.

Step 6 - Touch

Embrace and hold hands. Physical closeness can inspire emotional closeness. With a little practice, your relationship will become stronger than ever.

True love vs a passing crush When you are swept away by your emotions, it can be difficult to know the difference between true love and a passing crush. Here are some landmarks to steer you straight.

Step 1 - Look at patterns

Look at recurrent patterns in the relationship. Is it characterised by drama, conflict, and bouts of infidelity? Are you concerned about how the two of you appear as a couple to others? Do you need your partner to measure up to standards that aren’t their own? If so, you’ve got a crush.

Step 2 - Consider any fears

Pay attention to whether the relationship leaves you with fears of being abandoned, or terrified by your vulnerabilities. If so, it’s not the real thing.

Step 3 - Be realistic

Do you overly idealise your lover, finding them to be almost flawless? Do you have fantasies about spending the rest of your lives together even though you’ve just met? Does being together give you a strong emotional kick? If so, you’ve almost certainly got a crush.

Step 4 - Consider sensuality

Ask yourself whether the relationship is rooted in sensuality, sex, taste, touch, sight, hearing, and smell. If so, it’s probably short-term. That doesn’t mean it can’t turn into true love, though.

Step 5 - Understand longterm relationships

Know that long-term relationships may begin with some or the same characteristics as shortterm ones. But for a crush to turn into true love, the emotional fireworks must transition into friendship, and sexual attraction must become an adjunct to the total relationship, not the basis for it.

Tip – Plato argued that true love endures over space and time – for example, when two people are not together for a while. Step 6 - Consider commitment

Give thought to how committed you are to the relationship. Does the relationship have a long history? Are you willing to forgive your partner’s faults? These are characteristics of true love.

Step 7 - Consider YOUR level of concern

Ask yourself whether you have an abiding concern for the other person’s well-being. Are you there when they need you? Are they there when you need them? If so, it’s love.

Sweet revenge I consider myself a good looking woman, but I have a really good friend who annoys me because she is so full of herself. It never bothered me up until now. I was on the “Avenue” one Friday night, hanging out with my friends. While liming, I glanced across the street and saw my ex-boyfriend’s car. So I decided to stroll across and say hi. When I got to the car I almost fainted. My friend and my “ex” were making out. I was so shocked! I wondered to myself how could she do that to me. When she saw me she tried to explain but, I said, “it cool, don’t worry about it”.

The next week she went on and on about how she didn’t mean to hook up with my “ex” but she was so beautiful no man could resist. There I was listening and I decided I had heard enough. I was totally pissed. So the next day, I bought her a punch, knowing she was lactose intolerant. I told her it was made with soya milk. I felt so enraged but I played it cool and watched her drink the entire punch. During the rest of the day I watched her run to the toilet and I laughed and laughed. The following day she didn’t come to work because she had to be rushed to the hospital. I felt so bad but she deserved it! Lol!

You’re just somebody I used to know It hurts knowing I meant nothing to you after all this time, but I am turning myself loose. It’s happening slowly, but the feelings are finally starting to fade. It seems to help writing goodbye notes rather than worthless, unwanted love notes. I am sorry for being such a pain, such an unwanted burden. I wish you nothing but good.

Oh great, another crush that will never be fulfilled. Gets my mind off the other one a bit, though. But man, these are having a bad effect on my confidence. Why do I always fall for women who don’t want me? Perhaps some day I’ll have a crush that feels that same about me – before I die, please. Thank you

Can’t get you off my mind I still really like you. I can’t take my mind off you for even a day. When I found out that you liked me back a year ago, I was in tears because I screwed up our chance to be together. I regret every action that I did that made you change your mind. I really wanted us to be together. I wanted it more than anything. I really wish we didn’t have to go our separate ways. I’ll never get to see you again. You’ll never know how much you mean to me, how much I loved your hugs, how much I loved seeing you smile every day, how much I’ve loved you for five years. I love you so much and I really wish we could meet each other again someday so I could tell you everything.

It was a shock It was such a shock when I had my first miscarriage… before the age of 16. It was a shock when I had first learned to accept it. But it was an even bigger shock when I had my second one last month.

When I was a child between age 10 and 11 years I used to slip packets of Ping Pong and Cheers in my pocket at the grocery and then go to the bathroom to eat them.

BBM Affair One Friday evening on our way home, my boyfriend and I decided to stop off at Aquarios, close to home, to take a drink. After a few drinks. I noticed the bartender and from that day forward he and I became friends. My birthday was around the corner, so my boyfriend and a few of our friends, including the bartender, went to 51 Degrees to celebrate. I couldn’t keep my eyes off the bartender all night. But I didn’t make it too obvious. Why? Because he also brought his girlfriend. As the night went along his girlfriend and my boyfriend went out of sight to the bar. So I thought in my mind, “I would thief a wine Mr Hotty bartender” but in reality I wanted to thief even more! Lol.

As time went on, the bar where my Bartender friend worked got new management and he left. I had not seen him in almost over a year. Until recently. We became friends on BBM and I discovered he had his eyes on me too. We did everything possible via BBM. Up until this day my boyfriend doesn’t have a clue what was happening. There I was – can’t wait to make all my erotic BBMs flesh and blood reality. I think we have fallen in love with each other now.

Darin’s

On The Avenue When walking along Ariapita Avenue you are sure to meet Darin’s at the corner of Luis Street. Doors are wide open and the drinks are chilled and ready for the taking. There is even a “slushy” dispenser to greet you on the ground floor, churning frosty rum cocktails ready for enjoyment. Just five months old, Darin’s boasts of great drink specials on Karaoke Sundays, Twisted Tuesdays, After-Work Friday Limes and themed parties on Saturdays. You can also grab yourself a bite with their menu of cutters like pod stickers, wings, wontons, mozzarella sticks, plus some packed hot dogs and burgers, if you are feeling for something more filling. Darin’s is a serious liming location with the main bar on the ground floor off the Avenue,

an upper level with another bar and much more liming space and you can walk out on the deck, sit or overlook the action on the Avenue. The OMG team met up with Cecilia Salazar and her three-year-old daughter Stella at the Little Carib Theatre in Woodbrook. I said, “Cecilia Salazar” and she playfully corrected me, “No, it’s Cecilia ‘Maria’ Salazar”. The Little Carib is where she will be performing the gripping story of Gene Miles at the end of August. It is a story about one of the first major cases of corruption in Trinidad and Tobago in the ‘60s. Evidence given by Jean Miles, a civil servant, implicated the Ministry of Petroleum, Mines, Industry and Commerce in wrongdoing in the allocation of gas stations to businessmen who were leasing them from the Government. Jean Miles caused a sensation by alleging corrupt practices by several high-ranking figures. Sunday Express columnist Martin Daly, reviewing Cecilia’s performance as the ill-fated Ms Miles, said “It is remarkable that one actress could have the stamina and concentration to speak and otherwise act for over two hours. Cecilia Salazar, who has earned some of her reputation performing in comedy containing very basic plot lines, plays Miss Miles. I saw that evening a dramatic actress of great accomplishment, whose repertoire of skills was substantially enlarged by the more demanding stage vehicle of Tony Hall’s play.” Cecilia is very busy at the moment working on several productions – How It Hang It Swing!, Mary Could Dance, The Sound of Music and of course Miss Miles, in which she lives the entire life of an actual person, which is a major challenge for any actor. She also worked recently on the Caribbean Airlines in-flight video magazine with Raymond Choo Kong and taught drama to teachers for the Ministry of Education. She has been teaching drama to children at St Monica’s Prep School every Friday for the past 12 years, ever since her daughter Isabella started going there. Isabella is now 18. Her second daughter is Serena who is now 14 and wants to compete in triathlons. Between work and her three ladies, Cecilia is a very busy woman. When asked about how motherhood has been for her she says, “With every one of them the

is only after Mary Could Dance people saw me in a different light and now I get the Trini parts.” Asked if the emotions portrayed on stage affect an actor in life she said, “the emotions are realIf you do it right, you can really immerse yourself in the character and yes, after that emotional rollercoaster on stage you need to come down. That is why for many years I would drink and smoke plenty. You find a lot of actors doing that. They end up in drugs. Look at Heath Ledger. He ended up dead. So yes, the emotional stress on actors is real.” Cecilia says she is in a good place now. She is doing zumba, the dance fitness programme. “Woo hoo, zumba!” She is exercising, doing yoga and working at what she loves – theatre. She asks “what could be better than that?” When asked about the future Cecilia says, “Oh gorm, I doh think about the future, I only recently started to realise, things like saving money, but I feel it will all work out.” Cecilia wants to continue teaching children drama. She also teaches at Servol on Wednesdays. “I realise I am teaching them life skills. I am not teaching them to be actors, I am teaching them to know their feelings, to be able to deal with their emotions, to deal with their body, eye contact, simple things we take for granted, like speaking clearly, yuh doh have to shout, annunciate. I want to start acting classes in September with people who are serious about acting. I’m taking people who want to learn to act, seriously, not people who kinda like the acting ting and ah want to give it ah try, no, you will have to audition and I will pick about 12 I feel I can help on their journey to becoming an actor.” Cecilia’s OMG moment will have to be the outpouring of love and support she felt when she developed her heart condition. “I didn’t know that, that love, existed around me, that support has thought me a tremendous lesson. It has made me more loving, more calming, I am not as harsh in my comments as I used to be. I speak my mind. Mairoon Ali always said I am the most honest person she ever met. I could be blunt but now I am all about love, it’s all love, sunshine, flowers and rainbows (laugh) and Stella. One morning I was thanking God for all that I have around me and Stella said, ‘thank you, God, for mommy’. How perfect is that. I am blessed.”

Akeal Hosein 19 YEARS OLD,

CRICKETER, LAVENTILLE Akeal is one of four Trinidadians on the West Indies Under-19 team and will be leaving Trinidad on Tuesday for Australia to take part in the 2012 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. The OMG team was very happy to meet him at the Queen’s Park Oval where he was practising. He has been on the national cricket junior team since the age of 13 and has moved up the ranks over the years with his consistent performances. Akeal just returned from England where he went to gain some club cricket experience. He was the first cricketer chosen for the Keiron Pollard Scholarship Programme which allows players to go abroad and develop their skills. When asked why he feels all these opportunities have come his way and whether it was all due to his skills, Akeal says he feels it is because of his personality and his willingness to learn more and

work harder that “gives people the encouragement to push me more and give me their support”. Akeal says over the years there have been so many people wanting to support and encourage him. Every step of his journey has been lined with people wanting to lend a hand “to make sure I have the opportunities I had and it feels great”. Akeal went to Nelson Street Boys RC and passed for Success

Laventille Composite School but when he was in form one he was offered a transfer to Fatima College after his Success Laventille team played a match against them. Akeal loves training and developing his skills. His spare time is spent with his family and with friends, just old talking or at the movies. He says he is very close to his family and is proud of his younger brother who is just ten but is following in his footsteps. As expected Akeal hates to lose. He gets angry when he is bowled and says, “I am really competitive and like winning”. Akeal says, “people think nothing good comes out of Laventille and I am trying my best and working as hard as possible to prove them wrong. People must stop looking down at us, if people want Laventille to be a better place, then yuh have to put yuh hands in and help. Yuh can’t keep criticising and pulling down everybody. A lot of good things come out of Laventille. I am from Laventille and I want to prove to the people who think less of us that they are wrong.”

When asked about his OMG moment, Akeal says, “Being selected for the West Indies Under-19 team to play in the ICC World Cup in Australia. That was a really big OMG moment for me.”

TO’S

HOW

Quit drinking If your need to drink has become a problem, quit. This lifestyle change requires planning and ferocious self-discipline

Step 1 - Throw alcohol out

Rid the house of alcohol as soon as you decide to stop drinking, which should be done with a clear head and not while hugging the base of a toilet bowl.

Step 2 - Keep a journal

Keep a journal to track your thoughts and emotions as you quit drinking, reflecting on why you feel you need to drink. Drinking is often a symptom of what’s really wrong.

Tip – Seek professional counselling.

Step 3 - Avoid drinking friends and places

Avoid drinking buddies and places where you drink, as well as the situations and habits that invite drinking behaviour.

Step 4 - Create boundaries

Create boundaries so you can stay sober. Some of your friendships may change, but true friends will understand.

Tip - As you quit drinking, rebalance your system naturally using 420 to 600 milligrams of Milk Thistle to heal your liver.

Step 5 - Change your diet

Change your diet. Take multivitamins and eat whole foods and grains, greens, and fruit to replace processed sugars, fast foods, and caffeine.

Step 6 - Get in shape

Get in shape by working out, running, biking, or swimming. You will feel better being active and changing your lifestyle.

Step 7 - Spend time alone

Spend time alone constructively by reading books, taking walks, going to movies, or volunteering for a cause. You’re getting to know and like yourself.

Justify your video game obsession The next time someone gives you a hard time about your gaming addiction, blow their feeble mind with these awesome gaming facts.

Step 1- Tell them about your superior vision

Inform the killjoys that video game playing improves handeye coordination and visual perception. One study found that surgeons who played games for more than three hours a week made 37 per cent fewer errors than their non-playing colleagues.

Step 2 - Boast that you’re a problem solver

Boast that playing video games has sharpened your thinking. It has made you a better problem solver, improved your ability to analyse situations, prioritise, make decisions, work out compromises, and manage resources.

Tip – Remind people that the US Defense Intelligence Agency uses video games to train spies to think critically. Step 3 - Point out your quicker reflexes

Point out that gaming has given you faster reflexes. Many professional race-car drivers hone their skills at the console.

Tip – If you play video games that require physical movement, like Dance Dance Revolution, be sure to mention that you’re burning 300 to 500 calories an hour! Step 4 - Tell them you’re a great multitasker

Tell them that video games help people become adept at monitoring and juggling several tasks simultaneously, a valuable skill in real life.

Step 5 - Cite the mental health benefits

Cite the mental health benefits of gaming. Research shows that video games are a great stress reducer and mood booster for many players.

In a sensational tweet that can act as a huge PR drive for pornstar-turnedBollywood actor Sunny Leone’s upcoming film Jism 2, director Ram Gopal Varma has come up with classified information. “Osama had a stack of Sunny Leone videos. My source tells that he was watching her video when he was shot dead!” tweeted the maverick director.

Osama bin Laden’s addiction to porn has been confirmed by leading American newspapers, quoting their intelligence sources. There had been reports of a stack of porn VCDs found at the notorious compound of Abbottabad, the hideaway where Osama was killed by US special troops. And now Ramu claims that his sources have informed him that it was actually Sunny Leone, the 31-year-old Canadian import, who kept Osama hooked with her naughty videos. Sunny is already in news for her upcoming film Jism 2, and now we think RGV’s tweet will only give a further boost to Sunny’s film.

Up to press time, a decision about whether or not to remove the child from life support had not been made. Usher, who chartered a plane so Foster could get to her son’s side as fast as possible, has been at the hospital since the accident. He and Foster have swept aside their differences and have come together in this trying time. While they may be at odds over their children, Usher has proven to be one dedicated stepfather and a good man. The accident is reportedly under investigation. This tragic accident reminds us of Sean Kingston’s jet ski incident last year, where he was critically injured.
