Three things I like about myself: My height, just right, not too tall, not too short. My sense of adventure which led me to become a firefighter. Also my ability to think outside the box and accept the world and people for what they are. OMG Moment: The first time I went into a burning building. The visibility was almost zero, the heat was intense, the building was also groaning as though it was about to fall. This was an intense moment for me. How much should I spend on their wedding gift? by Dave Williams

My grandparents got married and stayed married until death. She was a housewife and he was a joiner. He was a joiner from age 14 and he passed away while at work. This couple from Montserrat raised two children with the regular ups and downs of family life in the pre-Independence era. She cooked, ironed and cleaned, and he did the house maintenance and repairs. In those days, marriage had a clarity of purpose and specificity of operation that is not easy to come by today. Men’s and women’s roles were clearly defined and seldom crossed. Single life was frowned on and divorce was a stigma. All of which I’m telling you, as the wedding season approaches, in order to ask: “How much should I spend on these two?”

How do you know whether you’re supporting the bedrock institution of our society or just a few short years of bed-rocking? Of course, Kim Kardashian’s internationally publicised

divorce after 72 days must be a record for the quickest divorce after the most expensive wedding. So here are some guidelines. 1. Think about the top end of the budget you can afford for the particular couple. Estimate it at 10 percent of your monthly salary. OR 2. For the every five years you’ve known

your half of the couple, put up $400. For every year after the first ten years, add $75. For each year you’ve known the couple together, add $75. That should buy a more than decent gift.

OR 3. You could take either of the above

figures and spend quarter of that on the gift and let the couple know that they’ll get the rest of their gifts after they are together for eight years. Have fun this wedding season. Most of all, try to stay within budget, whether you’re invited to a wedding or planning one. And go easy on the cake.

How to deal with people who like to start arguments Step 1

Step 3

Understand people who like to argue Understand that argumentative people, especially if they tend to become aggressive, have a deep-rooted personal problem. They like to argue, and they like to win – period. Recognise that the person who started to argue with you may be this kind of person. Defuse the situation by using one or all of the following strategies

Listen to them Listen to what the person has to say and don’t cut them off. That would only anger them.

TIP - Unlike people who enjoy the mental exercise of debate, argumentative people argue because of the sense of power and control it gives them.

TIP - Some positive phrases to use are “I believe what you are saying is…”, “I understand”, and “Thanks for letting me know your opinion”.

Step 2

Don’t engage in an argument with them Don’t get drawn into an argument or, if already drawn in, don’t try to win it. You won’t – at least not without causing the quarrel to escalate and possibly turn nasty.

TIP - Never let an argument become personal by using words that attack the person, and never say, “You are wrong.”

Step 4

Show that you are listening and respect their view Use words that show you respect their views and repeat their main points to show that you are listening.

Step 5

Use self-control and stay focused on the issues Don’t let the person turn the discussion back into a no-win argument.

Step 6

Walk away If this person is determined to argue, say something neutral like, “I’ll have to give this more thought” and walk away.

How to know if you should get married Step 1

Take notice of how you treat each other. Happily married couples say five nice things to and about each other for every one negative exchange.

TIP - Researchers have found that if a woman rolls her eyes when her fiancé is talking, it’s a huge red flag.

Step 2

Rate your sense of humour. If you find the same things funny and laugh a lot, that can keep you laughing into old age together.

Step 3

Check if you and your betrothed present a united front. If one of you says “I” more than “we” it could signal a lack of readiness to give up the single life.

TIP - The chance of a couple ending up in divorce court is greater if the man scores low in the “we” test.

Step 4

Consider your “how we met” story. Are your respective answers short or long? Romantic or ho-hum? Told with affection or not? Couples who are expansive when recounting their stories have a better chance of living happily ever after.

Step 5

Critique your fights. If either of you have a tendency to escalate conflicts, that’s a bad sign. If the male partner responds to conflict by withdrawing from the argument, that’s even worse.

TIP - Fighting itself is not linked to divorce. The key is to handle disagreements calmly and respectfully most of the time.

Step 6

Consider other factors that increase the risk of divorce, like getting married under the age of 25, lacking higher education, earning a low income, having different religions, and coming from a broken home. The fewer of those categories the two of you fall into, the better your chances of marital harmony.

Step 7

Know that you have the power to determine your future. Now that you’ve learned the behaviours and attitudes that can lead to divorce, you don’t necessarily need to call the whole thing off, but you must take steps to adjust them.

Friday evening blues I had to walk home to Gonzales today. This was because of a little downpour. Is it just me or are we Trinidadians afraid of a little rain? To make things worse, it was a Friday evening in Port-of-Spain. People were scampering about, there were hardly any taxis. The few that were working were filled up by people who were walking further up on Park and Charlotte Streets. I think I’ll just stop off at an after-work lime next Friday and kill some time until I can get transportation home.

I have a friend with benefits. We have been sleeping with each other for close to a year now. At first, it was about once a month and things have moved up to once a week. I’m not complaining. The man can kiss and the things he does are very endearing. He kisses my feet. He gives me massages, he lets me come over when I am upset, and he listens to me. We cuddle on the couch. He spent the night with me and I woke up in his arms.

Thanks for listening to me last night

When I am with him, I feel content. I don’t think to ask him what we are to each other. I don’t care, I like what I have now. I am sleeping with my best friend. I feel special, I even dare to think I feel loved. The last time he spent the night, I dreamed he thought I was pregnant and when I told him I wasn’t, he said he wanted to have a baby with me. I woke up, not knowing for a minute whether the dream was real.

Compelled to help the homeless

I hope I didn’t bore you too much. You are a good friend and gave me good advice. I’m moving on and I also think I should move on from you. I feel the link I spoke to you about will still be there and I also need to sever that. Sorry, and I hope you understand. I hope and wish your problem gets sorted, too. I just cannot get involved with anyone again. It happens all the time. Every morning I would get out of the taxi and walk to City Gate to get to work. As soon as I reach lower Charlotte Street, a vagrant would ask me ‘’Eh, you have any change to spare?” For some reason, I could never say no. After my first encounter, I am about to cross the zebra crossing and I would hear, “God say to share, meh boy give

The past I wish I could let the past die. I wish I could just let it all go. Instead I let it influence my feelings. I get upset about things because I’m relating them to past events but the feelings have nothing to do with the current situation.

I think it’s because when you’ve been hurt really deeply, even when years go by, you can still have knee-jerk reactions that aren’t appropriate. But I have to keep reminding myself of this so that I don’t get too upset.

granny ah lil something nah, I hungry!” Out of sympathy, I turned back and gave her a couple of dollars. I was wondering if was there a sign on my forehead saying “Ask me” or one saying “He never says no”. After all, if I can spare some change, I don’t mind giving to the homeless, or at least the ones that looks like they are not doing drugs.

Revenge at work I worked at a factory with this girl who thought she was all that. She was the supervisor’s friend and so she got the easy tasks. That was not cool. One day, when Little Miss Sunshine was acting as though she could talk to us in any way she wanted, I got angry – but I also got even! I went to the women’s washroom and took her sneakers and filled them with water. You should have seen the look on her face. She thought it was one of her good friends. It felt good to make her feel bad.

Redlight district district At the end of St James, at the last intersection, you’ll find something that many have already discovered: the Redlight Barbeque and Grill. The word “Wings” is upsized on the billboard, because it’s their specialty. The variety of wings will fly your taste buds around the world and back with just a glance at the Honey BBQ, Garlic, Spicy BBQ, Smokey Joe, Redlight, Buffalo, Geera, Tamarind, Jerk, and Tandoori, with new flavours added every month. We particularly recommend the delicious lamb burger.

One of the things that drew us to the Redlight was their “dinner and a movie” offer. Every night, from 7 pm to 12 pm, you can get a free movie with meal purchases. This week’s new releases include Underworld- Awakening, 21 Jump Street, and Man on a Ledge. The selection of movies changes regularly thanks to Redlight’s neighbours, Movie Zone. Another interesting selection is the Gym Meal Combo, a healthy post-workout choice, which includes sauté vegetables, any grilled meat, and mashed potatoes. Redlight moves through the weekend in true Trini style. OMG has invitations to try out their range of soups on Saturdays and a full-blown Creole menu on Sundays. Despite its name, Redlight is a surprisingly comfortable escape for families and friends, having four big screen TVs, arcade games and ample seating. Call 223-5977 or visit Redlight on Facebook.

It’s a man’s world Men’s wear has come full circle. Men’s fashion is no longer seen as the supporting act to the main show, which is largely controlled by women. Men’s wear has turned heads with its revisit to retro styles, modern cuts and fresh fabrics. In New York, Michael Bastian pops bold colour (red) with prints this season. Locally, we experience the texture of layered fabrics and detailed stitching on fine, well-tailored garments from Anthony Reid for Meiling. There has been a swing from American heritage labels to the dapper and refined British bespoke style. The conservative turn-of-the century trend, as evident on the runways of Milan, New York and Paris, still allows for accessorizing with a little flair.

Eclif Elie’s Noble line and even Millhouse’s 1919 demonstrate the influence of international trends. Both fashion houses flirt with professor chic (1970s) to Mad Men style (1960s) to 1930s Depression era of the working man. Recently, the tailored style of Marlon George metamorphosed from dangerous to distinguished. It is clear that today’s male fashionista wants to be on trend with pastel hues, shawl collars, outerwear jackets- blousons and safariloose fitting neckties, lean trousers and coloured shoes. There is a shift from the monochromatic cement-like shades to bolder colours such as the typical boy blue. The Cloth seems to be on track with their signature major blue. For the upcoming graduation season, male trendsetters can show off with swag- cuff links collar bars, stingy-brimmed fedoras, pocket squares and alternative styled neckwear.

Malcolm Riley 58 Years Old Belmont Malcolm Riley may be familiar to anyone who frequents the Queen’s Park Savannah, not because he runs or walks around the world’s largest roundabout, but because, if you’re looking for coconut water, you’ll find him near the Grand Stand entrance. He’s been selling coconuts for 35 years and when asked what he enjoys about it, his face lit up. He said: “Who wouldn’t like a job where you get to see the most beautiful women in the world jog by you all day?”

Another thrill is the bigwigs who frequent his stall. “Doctors, lawyers, magistrates. Big people who take the time to talk with me,” said Malcolm. He learns so much from the conversations with his customers. “I like how my regulars seek me out and know that I will give them the type of coconut they want. They give me knowledge and ideas about life and the conversations are just very nice.” Malcolm grew up in San Fernando and Chaguanas, then moved to Belmont. His future plans include owning his own coconut truck. At present, he sells on commission. His philosophy is to take things one day at a time and deal with things as they come. Malcolm’s biggest OMG moment is customers’ admiration for his coconutcutting skills. “The tourists that come by are amazed at what I do for a living. I feel proud that they appreciate it.”

Tessanne is currently in Trinidad recording tracks for her next major release. She’s working with producers Klas and Madmen Productions, and she also performed recently with Kes the Band at Woodford Cafe. The “Hideaway” singer, who tied the knot a year ago, was also sighted at the recent Tobago Jazz Experience. Just scan the QR code below with your smartphone to see the Jamaican beauty’s music video with Kes from her recent debut album In Between Words (available on iTunes). In the past few months, she’s toured Japan, performed at the St Maarten Heineken Regatta, and spent the rest of her time focusing on family, friends, and on her charity, Angels of Love, in Jamaica.

This foundation gives financial support to children who cannot afford to have preliminary diagnostic tests for illnesses or the transport to go to a doctor or hospital. The charity has also opened a chapter in the US. If you would like to read more, just scan the QR code below or check it out online or on Facebook. Tessanne was born into a musical family. Her mother was a trumpeter and singer, and her father played anything from drums to bass. Her parents met through music when they were both just 14 years old, playing in a band. Tessanne told OMG, “You see, music is in my blood, music chose me.” She is a born and bred Jamaican, but her family lived in England for a short time and she attended high school there. Her training in music came from legendary reggae singer Jimmy Cliff, for whom she was a back-up singer for two years. She says, “I got to see the world, amazing places, and got to work with one of the legends of our time.” Tessanne was also in a Jamaican reggae rock band called Mile High. Her first solo hit was “Hideaway”, followed by “Messenger” and “Black Books.” Some of her collaborations with Kimani Marley, Kes and Shaggy have brought moderate success. Her latest joint project is with Busy Sygnal. OMG quizzed Tessanne on a few personal aspects of her life. She said she loves to curl up with a good book. Rude people anger her most of all. “Regardless of who you are, or where you come from, you should deal with people with respect, don’t talk down to people,” she says. Her pet peeve is injustice. She is happiest when eating and cooking. “My best dishes are macaroni and cheese, tuna potato, and my roast chicken ain’t bad, either.” Other happy times are when she is with family. She is the last of five children. Tessanne admits she is a huge fan of Celine Dion and would listen and study the international star. “I am not a fanatical person but I admire her gifted voice and talent,” she said. “My biggest OMG moment came when Celine was one of the acts of the Jazz on Blues Festival in Jamaica and I got the chance to be on the same stage with her. I always felt that I would have to go to that mountain, but that mountain came to me and she was so gracious. I got to meet her, take pictures with her, it was just a wonderful moment.”

HOW

TO’S

Make Friends Join a group

Join a group that interests you. You could work on a political campaign, sign up for a class, do volunteer work, or become a member of a club like a hiking group.

Make the first move

Don’t be afraid to make the first move. Keep it simple, like inviting the person to have a drink with you.

TIP - In the beginning, don’t call or email your new acquaintance more than they do. You want to be a pal, not a pain.

Be interested

DO A FAVOUR

Listen for what you can do for the person you’d like to be friends with. Doing someone a favour—without being asked—will fast-track the friendship.

TIP - Don’t be afraid to reach out to old friends who have faded from your life. Sometimes a renewed friendship is the most rewarding of all.

Throw a party

Throw a party that includes all your friends, old and new, and encourage them to bring friends. As a wise man once said: make new friends, but keep the old— one is silver and the other is gold.

Focus on being interested, rather than being interesting. Research shows that when people are allowed to talk mostly about themselves, they give high ratings to their conversation partner!

Recognising the symptoms of appendicitis Step 1

Know that pain may vary. Pain may be different depending on the person’s age.

Step 2

Know that pain will occur near your navel. Typically appendicitis pains start around your navel and then shifts to your right abdomen.

Step 3

Know that pain can worsen. This can happen if you walk, cough, or move.

TIP - Pregnant woman and young children may experience pain in different places.

Step 4

Recognise additional symptoms such as the loss of appetite, nausea, swelling of the abdominal area, and

a high fever. Be aware that diarrhoea with gas, painful urination, and constipation can occur.

Step 5

Contact a doctor

Kieron Emmanuel 16-year-old TACARIGUA WATER POLO SENSATION Photograph and Story by Stephen Doobal Kieron attends Queen’s Royal College with a daily itinerary that would have most people spinning out of control. He walked into the OMG photo shoot carrying 35 medals and trophies which he won in just three years of playing water polo. He plays for the national team and for his school. If Kieron looks familiar to you, OMG found out that he is the young man who is day-dreaming in the ODPM earthquake commercial, Drop, Cover, Roll, which he did when he was just ten years old. He has his parents at his side making sure he balances his school work, training and games. Kieron trains eight times a week, waking at 4 am, training from 5 am to 6:30am, after which he heads out to school. His evening training is from 6 pm to 9 pm and, if he has a match coming up, he might go till 10 o’ clock. But Kieron is also an equally good student. He’s in Form Five, doing nine subjects for CXC, all his SBAs are submitted, and he got the highest marks in Chemistry in his class. Kieron’s top three subjects in school are Music, Physics, and Maths – yes, we said music. He plays the piano, saxophone, conga drums and pan. Kieron started playing water polo in Form One. His father encouraged him to try it and, after his first game, the coach told his father Kieron was a natural at the sport. He then joined Royal Fields water polo club and was signed on to try out for the national team. He failed to make the team on his first attempt, but one year later he tried again and made the grade. This gave Kieron the opportunity to go to Curacao to represent Trinidad and Tobago. The team brought back a gold medal. He said they felt proud to beat Curacao on their home turf. When asked how he contributed to the gold medal, he laughed and confessed he did not – he played bench. Being new to the team, he was there to get his feet wet at an international game and he was glad for the experience. However, when he was in form three, the team headed for the CCACISC where Kieron scored a total of five goals. At the recent CARIFTA games, the team scored 40 goals to Jamaica’s nil. He said, “My coach wanted a flawless victory. So said, so done. We played two games, we demolished Jamaica 40-nil and we trampled over Curacao 29 to six.” In just two years, Kieron was able to travel to many places to represent Trinidad and Tobago, including Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Curacao, Cuba, Florida, Colombia. In December, the team heads off to Australia. When asked about some of the things he likes and does not like, Kieron replied, “I don’t like when people don’t tell me the truth and mauby. I like water polo, it makes me happiest, and I like playing my piano.” He plays classical music, such as compositions by Beethoven. Kieron’s future dream is to get a full scholarship to play water polo at a university abroad, to work for a oil company as an engineer, and explore his musical talent. “I want to keep humble, trust in God, and I know God will get me through”. His mom and dad keep him and his two younger brother

Kewsi and Christian focused. He says, “My brothers are quickly becoming excellent sportsmen, also. We are all very competitive in my family.” As for down time, he says, “Yes, sometimes we give mom a rest... Saturdays, when there is no training, we go on a boys’ lime with dad. We go to cinema or the mall and just hang out together.” Kieron says, “I am doing the work to be the best at everything I do, I want to be recognized for being a good team player, student, friend and being humble. I want to be known for my discipline, to be well respected, that is the portrait I want for myself, to be a good person a nice person. Dad says, you don’t want to just do well, you should want to be the best, it’s the Emmanuel way”. His biggest OMG moment was when his team played at the Pan Am Games last year, going in as underdogs against countries like Colombia, USA, Brazil, Canada, Argentina, Puerto Rico, “Those are the top countries in the world in water polo and, the night before the game, coach gathered the team and said we had two crucial games to win, Canada in the morning and Puerto Rico in the afternoon. That morning we demolished Canada and then beat Puerto Rico in Puerto Rico. It was an amazing feeling. The sad thing is that water polo will never be as big as football and Trinidad and Tobago has the top junior water polo team in the world, but many people just don’t know that. Water polo needs to be given the recognition it deserves in Trinidad and Tobago”.

As far as weird themes go, “Apples aren’t Oranges, Love is Love” is right up there with the weirdest, but as art it does pique curiosity. Tobago’s first spoken word event in recent times got off to a great start with brand-new talent and some seasoned faces. Barto Speak’s “Apples aren’t Oranges, Love is Love” is an intimate, lyrical affair of poetry, visual art, and music. The event took place at Cruz Cocktail Bar in Crown Point lastThursday. An unexpected treat came from the lead singer for Gyazette, Nickolai Salcedo, who opened the night with his own love ballads on guitar. The line-up of local poets included Neki with a heart-rending poem about her mother; MPOP who wanted to be “Touched”; and Trevlin Bridgeman with an emotionally raw piece titled “Nine”. Guests were also treated to a special piece by the UK-based live theatre actor, Guy Lankester, who is in Tobago on vacation. “I wanted to bring together an eclectic mix of artists to create a spoken word experience in Tobago. I think we did that,” says Nigel Barto. He also performed that night along with a visual artist who did an on-the spot painting, which was then given away as a door prize. US hip hop artist, Kynami Love, performed via Skype. Barto is already busy planning May’s event. Check out the action www.facebook. com/BartoSpeak for more information and to get involved.

Marley snubbed by MOJO British magazine MOJO has come under fire from reggae lovers after its most recent Top-50 Reggae Albums tribute to Jamaica did not include any album from the late Bob Marley. Musicians featured on MOJO magazine’s list include Barrington Levy (Shaolin Temple), Dennis Brown (Wolves & Leopards), Gregory Isaacs (Night Nurse), Beenie Man (Art & Life), Lady Saw (Passion), T.O.K (My Crew My Dawgs), Sizzla (Black Woman and Child) and incarcerated Reggae singjay Buju Banton (Til’ Shiloh). The Jamaican Star contacted Bay-C of dancehall/reggae group T.O.K to get a comment on MOJO magazine’s selection. According to the artiste, Bob Marley’s exclusion was strange. “It would depend on what the criteria was, but Bob Marley is the most established reggae brand in the world, and he is the king of reggae, so right now I am curious to see the criteria, but, aside from that Bob Marley is still the king of reggae,” he said. Bay-C also commented on T.O.K’s album selection saying that “My Crew My Dawgs” had a good variety. “We wanted to make a classic, mixing reggae with dancehall. That way, we had something for everybody, and it is a great feeling to know that our work did not fall on deaf ears.

It’s definitely an honour,” he said. Veteran dancehall artiste U-Roy also made MOJO magazine’s final cut. However, he believes that Bob Marley deserved to be selected. “The man who put that together nuh know weh him a duh. Bob Marley is foundation so that don’t sound right to me, Bob Marley is a top seller in the universe so something don’t right. Dem miss out big time it must be a mistake, dem need fi check and go again,” U-Roy said. Attempts to get comments from the Marley family were unsuccessful. However, Bob Marley’s widow, Rita Marley, said in an interview with Entertainment Report that MOJO magazine should apologise . “Bob is one of a kind, it’s not late for them to apologise, we would accept an apology but we are not impressed, Bob seh ‘dem a guh tired fi si mi face dem cyah get mi out a di race’, it’s a foolish dog who barks after a flying bird,” Rita Marley said. The snub for Marley comes on the heels of the premiere of a documentary depicting his life story on the lawns of Emancipation Park last month. Hundreds of reggae lovers and fans of the reggae icon had turned out to show their support for Marley. MOJO has not yet responded to queries from The Star.

Nicki Minaj, Rihanna - Super Sexy The images of the singers have spurred some talk about the responsibility of entertainers to be role models. In an interview with British Vogue in October 2011, Rihanna explains “See, people… they want me to be a role model just because of the life I lead. The things I say in my songs, they expect it of me, and being a role model became more of my job than I wanted it to be. But no, I just want to make music. That’s it.”

Sean Paul

Many things can be (and have been) said about Rihanna and Nicki Minaj. Everything, from their chart-topping hits, to their fashion risks. They are some of the most talked about artists today. Yet another thing that unifies them is their highly sexed up image. Go to any Rihanna concert and you may be present during a display of foreplay and masturbation on stage. Attend a Nicki Minaj concert and be entertained as Minaj walks around, dildo in hand, not to mention the impromptu lap dance for a surprised fan.

crazy topics sometimes that maybe Caribbean people don’t always gravitate towards, and their music is really provocative and out there.” He went on to explain, “But that’s something that I don’t mind. As a musician I really like what they’re doing. Being that they don’t speak on Barbados

and Trinidad every day, they’re from there. And they’re being an ambassador whenever they like.” He then adds, “What Rihanna and Nicki talk about may not be what people love in their country, then I say allow them then. They don’t wave the flag for you.”

Minaj, on the other hand, sees herself as a role model. The ‘Moment for Life’ singer told MTV News, “If there’s one thing I want people to take away from it, it’s just that little girls can aspire to be anything, and that’s all I want people to see.” The most recent display of pre-pubescent admiration for Minaj is Sophia and Rosie, the two little girls from England who famously and energetically sang ‘Super Bass’ on the Ellen Show; proof of the fact that the influence of Rihanna and Minaj impact young children. The two popular artists are from the Caribbean, Rihanna from Barbados and Minaj from Trinidad. The other big Caribbean act, Sean Paul from Jamaica, said in an interview with taletela.com that “Just the fact that they’re from there… they’re speaking on so many different

Caribbean One-Minute Mobile Film Festival to open in Trinidad “Can we have a minute of your time?” That is the artistic mantra for a new type of film festival called the Caribbean OneMinute Mobile Film Festival scheduled for September 6 – 9, 2012, in Port of Spain, Trinidad. After the mobile film festival premiere in Trinidad and Tobago, it will move to other Caribbean countries every year where there is an interest. Can we have a minute of your time, is a question directed at aspiring filmmakers whose artistic passion can be expressed within a minute of time using only a smartphone. The one-minute film must still tell a story. The director must control lighting to enhance his project. In short, all of the techniques used to make a good 2-hour film, must also be included in the making of a one-minute film. In today’s world everyone has a phone with a camera on it. This makes everyone a potential filmmaker. Supporting this Caribbean chant of ‘can we have a minute of your time’ is a bevy of festival objectives that do not stop once the festival is over. When the festival ends on September 9, 2012, it will mark the beginning

of a campaign that will see Caribbean filmmakers employed by world-wide movie and TV industry companies, international corporations, NGOs, nonprofits, and individuals from throughout the Caribbean and ultimately from around the world.

The best way for these filmmakers to get paid is to offer a quality of service equal to that offered by competitor, but at a greatly reduced price. Caribbean-based NGOs and companies approaching a filmmaker to hire is the primary and most important goal of the festival.

When the Caribbean One-Minute Mobile Film Festival was envisioned, two goals were identified. The first goal is the development of new artist, using easily available tools. Equally important, during these economically trying times, an artist, like any other individual or entity providing a product or service, should be paid.

The producers of this festival, which include the Bridge Foundation, a non-profit organization registered in Trinidad and Tobago, are seeking support for the first Caribbean One-Minute Mobile Film Festival.

In the ad, Ashton plays four characters from different nationalities and personalities. But it is the character of an Indian called Raj, who is a Bollywood producer, which is creating all the controversy. Some Hindustani chaps, including blogger and entrepreneur Anil Dash, thought Kutcher’s act was pretty racist, and made the chips company withdraw the Indian portion from the commercial. Rapper Das Racist also commented on it and urged people to file a complaint on the chips manufacturer’s helpline.

Khloe & Lamar pulls plug on reality show Lamar Odom and Khloe Kardashian (K&L) have decided to pull the plug on their spin-off show Khloe & Lamar. Sources tell TMZ that the show’s second season will be its last, because Lamar wants to focus on reviving his fizzling NBA career. We’re told E! is still trying to convince the couple to reconsider, but K&L are standing firm, because they just don’t want to do it anymore.

Lamar was relegated to the Dallas Mavericks’ inactive list after putting up career low numbers this season. If he’s lucky, he’ll be traded. But we’re told Lamar is determined to make a comeback - and he feels he should focus on only one project. Lamar will be living in L.A. fulltime and he’s hired trainers to help him get his game back. According to sources, Khloe and Lamar will make occasional appearances on the reality mother ship, Keeping Up with the Kardashians , but that’s it. No mas.

Jennifer Hudson family murder trial:

Judge releases tape of her sister’s 911 call

A Chicago judge on Monday agreed to release a 911 tape played for jurors last week in the trial of William Balfour, who is accused of killing Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother, and seven-year-old nephew. According to CBS Chicago, Criminal Court Judge Charles Burns decided to release the 911 tape following an emergency motion by several media outlets. Although prosecutors tried to bar the tape’s release because of the sensitive nature of the case and because the jury has not begun deliberating, Burns said there was no evidence that Balfour’s due process rights would be prejudiced by releasing the tape of the 911 call. Prosecutors last week played the recording of the 911 call that Julia Hudson, Jennifer Hudson’s sister, made after discovering their mother’s bloodied body.

“Oh my God.... Somebody’s killed my mother,” Julia Hudson says, while a dispatcher tries to get her to calm down and repeat her address. “She’s on the floor and I see blood coming from her head.” Hudson can be heard wondering aloud, “Where my brother at? What happened?” She also cries in panic that she doesn’t know the location of her son, sevenyear-old Julian. “I don’t know where Julian is or nothing and I’m here by myself,” she says. She tells the dispatcher she “just got home from work” and “there’s a bullet hole in our front door.” Balfour has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder charges in the October 2008 killings. Prosecutors say Balfour killed the Hudson family members in a jealous rage because he believed Julia Hudson, his estranged wife, was cheating on him. Defence attorneys claim he had nothing to do with the murders.
