Welcome to the 12th season of the Taneycomo Festival Orchestra! We are delighted that you’ve decided to spend these very special two weeks with us as we perform our favorite music in Branson and Hollister.
As you peruse this program book, you will find lots of wonderful information about our musicians and music. We hope you enjoy learning about this amazing orchestra. We have an incredible Festival lined up for you, and we hope to see you at as many concerts as possible!
We also encourage you to visit our merchandise table to check out all the great ways you can support your Taneycomo Festival Orchestra. We have many volunteer opportunities as well as donation levels, and all funds raised provide travel reimbursement to the musicians who are donating their time and talents to this organization. After all, the TFO wouldn’t be possible without your contributions!

LARKIN SANDERS EXECUTIVE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Dr. Larkin Sanders is a native of Branson, Missouri, and currently lives in Kansas City, Missouri where she is the clarinet instructor at Washburn University, owns the Clever Clarinetist (a clarinet specialty store), is the Executive-Artistic Director of the Taneycomo Festival Orchestra, and is an active performer. As a chamber music and entrepreneurship specialist, she manages and performs with Porch Music KC, the Bluestem Faculty Quintet at Washburn University, and more. In addition to a variety of chamber ensembles, she also performs with the Springfield Symphony, Topeka Symphony, and other regional orchestras. Dr. Sanders serves on several nonprofit boards such as the American Single Reed Summit (Vice President) and Charlotte House Series. Dr. Sanders is a performing artist for Henri Selmer Paris, D’Addario & Co., Brian Corbin Clarinet Products, and she is a Silverstein Pro Team Artist.
In addition to her activities as a clarinetist, teacher, and administrator, Dr. Sanders is also a composer and author who has a fondness for songs and unique chamber ensembles. Larkin has had her works performed in a variety of settings. Her works are inspired by the talents of her friends and colleagues, and the genres of her works span from chamber operettas, art songs, children’s music, and more. She is also the author of The Creation of the Taneycomo Festival Orchestra: The Performer’s Field Guide to Music Festival Foundation and The Clever Clarinetist’s Daily Scale Method: Scales and Exercises for Everyday Use, used by The Florida State University and other studios as their official fundamental method.
Dr. Sanders completed her Doctor of Music degree in clarinet performance and a certificate in arts administration at Florida State University in 2015. At FSU, she studied clarinet with Dr. Frank Kowalsky and Dr. Deborah Bish while teaching a course in clarinet fundamentals for first-year undergraduate students. Larkin also holds a master of music degree from Michigan State University where she studied clarinet with Dr. Justin O’Dell and composition with Dr. Ricardo Lorenz. Previously, she earned her bachelor of arts degree from the University of Kansas while studying clarinet with Dr. Stephanie Zelnick and Dr. Larry Maxey.
In addition to her exciting musical activities, Dr. Sanders is an aquatic enthusiast who enjoys sailing and scuba diving, and she is an avid craftswoman who enjoys graphic design, sewing, furniture rehab, and other creative adventures. In her free time, she enjoys creating things, going on adventures, reading, and spending time with her family & friends, her Norwegian forest cat, Miles, and her dogs, Miko and Dopey.
PATTI SANDERS
DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR
Born and raised in Stuttgart, Arkansas, Patti Sanders graduated from the University of Arkansas with a degree in Marketing. Her husband, Sandy, is a drummer and professor of English; and daughter, Dr. Larkin Sanders, is a free lance musician in Kansas City. The Sanders family has resided in Branson since 1992. Patti is the Mama of the orchestra, and always looking for housing, food and funds. So, she could use your help! When she’s not playing orchestra Mama, she’s playing with the neighborhood kids, sailing with Sandy or walking Rufus, her sweet English Cocker Spaniel.
JARRETT BASTOW
ORCHESTRA MANAGER
Jarrett Bastow is a Musical Renaissanceman in Houston, TX. He is the Education Manager for Houston Symphony, freelance bassist and a Suzuki bass & cello teacher. He formerly served as the Education & Community Engagement Director and Personnel Manager for Tulsa Symphony simultaneously serving as Personnel Manager for Symphony of Northwest Arkansas. Jarrett performed regularly with the Tulsa Symphony, Symphony of Northwest Arkansas, Springfield Symphony (MO) Orchestra, Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, Texarkana Symphony Orchestra & Tulsa Ballet & Tulsa Opera for a decade prior to his recent relocation to Houston. In addition to earning his Bachelor of Music from Ithaca College, he holds the unique distinction of being (Masters)^2. Jarrett earned his first Masters in Music from Northwestern University and his second Masters in Arts Leadership & Cultural Management from Colorado State University. He also has certifications in Change Management from Cornell University and Grant Proposal Writing from Fort Hays State University. In his free time, he likes to rock climb, hike, research, and travel. This is his second year serving as Orchestra Manager and first year playing bass for TFO.
ANDREW SEHMANN
PRODUCTION MANAGER
Andrew Sehmann plays with multiple orchestras in the Southeast. He is third horn in the Augusta Symphony, and second horn with the South Carolina Philharmonic. He also teaches horn, aural skills, and music appreciation at Young Harris College, and Georgia College in Milledgeville. His previous teachers have included: Marie-Luise Neunecker, Johannes Hinterholzer, Jean Martin-Williams Mick Sehmann, Richard Deane, James Naigus, Hazel Dean Davis, Achim Reus, and Kevin Reid. In 2022 he was a Semi-finalist for the International Horn Competition of the Americas. He has also been featured on two albums: Floral Portrait’s Eponymous Debut, and The Augusta Symphony’s Orchestral Works of Miguel del Aguila. He lives with his wife Ashley, a private piano teacher in Athens with their rescue dog, Stella. This is his fifth year playing with TFO and first year as Production Manager.
ALEXANDRA DOYLE
MARKETING DIRECTOR
Dr. Alexandra Doyle is the adjunct instructor of clarinet at Sinclair College, Thomas More University, and the Stivers School for the Arts. She is also the clarinet teacher for the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance’s after-school Q the Music program. She is a member of the Taneycomo Festival Orchestra and regularly performs with ensembles in the Cincinnati area, including the Lima Symphony Orchestra, Butler Philharmonic, and Springboro Wind Symphony. Dr. Doyle earned her graduate degrees from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and her bachelor’s degrees from the University of Houston. She is a contributor for Oxford’s forthcoming “Handbook of Wind Music” and enjoys researching and performing the works of living composers. This is her fourth year playing with TFO and first year as Marketing Director.
STEVEN SMITH
Steven Smith is originally from Branson, MO and currently resides in Springfield, MO where he a full-time graphic designer, as well as an adjunct instructor of graphic design. Steven graduated from Drury University where he received a B.S. in Graphic Design. As a musician, Steven plays contrabass clarinet with the Missouri State University Community Band where he has been a member for the last twelve years, as well as Pinnacle Winds in Kansas City for the last two years. This year also makes his 12th season playing flute with the Taneycomo Festival Orchestra. In addition to being a founding member of TFO, Steven has also been the graphic designer for the orchestra for the last nine years, as well as TFO’s very own photographer, when he isn’t playing of course. Outside of music and work, Steven enjoys his time at home with is 100+ houseplants, the occasional adventure outdoors or underground, and planning his next trip around the world.
NATE BLITON
GRAPHIC DESIGNER RECORDING ENGINEER
Nate Bliton plays the viola and loves making recordings of wonderful music. While his primary education is in music composition (holding M.M. and B.M. degrees in Music Composition from Michigan State University) he is equally passionate about circus arts, extreme sports, and designing interactive software and electronics for music, theater, dance, and other installations. These days he works at Grand Valley State University on the West side of Michigan for their department of Music, Theatre, and Dance. Nate is also a founding member of TFO and has performed with the orchestra all 12 seasons.
JOSEPH PETERS
MUSIC DIRECTOR
Minnesota native Joseph Peters, Associate Principal Oboe and English horn with the North Carolina Symphony, previously held Principal Oboe chairs with the Minnesota Orchestra and Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. He has performed as guest principal with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, The Florida Orchestra, and the Quad City Symphony Orchestra, and he has also played with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Marlboro Music Festival, Oregon Bach Festival, Lakes Area Music Festival, National Repertory Orchestra and the National Orchestral Institute. For three years he was a member of the New World Symphony in Florida.
Peters first appeared with the Minnesota Orchestra at age 18 as a finalist in the Minnesota Idol competition, performing Mozart’s Oboe Concerto. As a soloist, he has also appeared with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, New World Symphony, Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Saint Paul Civic Symphony, Wayzata Symphony Orchestra, and the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies, of which he is an alumnus.
In addition to TFO, Peters has been music director of the SUNY Buffalo State Philharmonia Orchestra and the Saybrook College Orchestra of Yale. He frequently conducts the North Carolina Symphony, leading many of their education and Holiday Pops concerts, and he has conducted a variety of programs at the New World Symphony, including a collaboration with the Miami City Ballet. His conducting mentors include Michael Tilson Thomas, James Patrick Miller and Toshiyuki Shimada.
Peters has been on the oboe or conducting faculty of various institutions including the SoBe Institute of the Arts, National Youth Orchestra of the USA, SUNY Buffalo State, and has conducted side-by-side concerts for New World Symphony’s MusicLab program. An advocate of contemporary music, he premiered Aaron Jay Kernis’ On Distant Shores with New York’s RIOULT Dance Company, and he has been involved in numerous other premieres by composers including Jocelyn Hagen and Samuel Carl Adams.
Peters received a bachelor of music degree from the University of Minnesota and a master of music from Yale University. His teachers include Stephen Taylor, John Snow, Julie Madura and Marilyn Zupnik.

Marshall Romanick Baldwin has played violin since he was 10, with most of his musically formative years under the tutelage of Becky Rathbun. He is currently the concertmaster of the University of Oklahoma’s (OU) Civic Orchestra and first violin of the OU Civic Quartet. He is also the winner of the New Philharmonic Orchestra of Irving’s 2019 Richard Giangiulio Youth Concerto Competition. This summer, Marshall is graduating with an undergraduate degree in meteorology from OU and plans to graduate with a master’s in data science and analytics next year.
Theresa Britt is a professional musician living in the Texas Hill Country. She performs as a violinist, fiddler, guitarist and vocalist. She performs as a fiddler a number of bands in the Texas Hill Country including Allan Hendrickson Band and Jesse Stratton Band. As a classical musician, she performs in Symphony of the Hills in Kerrville, Mid Texas Symphony in Seguin, and in string quartets for weddings and events. Creatively, she arranges music for string orchestra and is a singer/songwriter. Recently, Theresa has been working on her own project, the Dirty Rotten Swing Band that has a rotating cast of players and performs Western Swing, Jazz, and Blues. In 2012, Theresa completed a Master’s degree in Music at Texas Tech University. She received her Bachelor of Music from Texas Tech University in 2007.
A native of Bowling Green, OH, Gina Buzzelli is a freelance musician based in Northwest Ohio. Gina holds degrees in violin performance from Ball State University and the University of Northern Colorado. During the summers she has participated in numerous festivals such as the National Repertory Orchestra, Round Top Festival Institute, Eastern Music Festival, and the International Lyric Academy Opera Festival in Viterbo, Italy. In addition to being classically trained, Gina has pursued other genres participating in jazz ensembles at both BSU and the UNC and is a founding member of the All Angles Orchestra and Dynamix String Quartet.
Iris Church just finished her first year studying for her BM in instrumental performance at Southeast Missouri State University, and she is excited to be participating in the Taneycomo Festival Orchestra for the first time. Other musical ensembles she has been a part of include Lincoln College Preparatory Academy’s Symphonic Orchestra and Concert Band, Southeast Missouri state university Symphony Orchestra, and Marching Band, as well as the DCQ String Quartet.
Natalie Cohen has graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in Violin Performance from Idaho State University, and is planning to attend the University of New Mexico in the Fall to continue onto her Master’s. Aside from playing the violin, she can be found enjoying a good book, walking outdoors, drawing, or working on a crochet project. Although music is her passion, she enjoys many other hobbies, and spending time with good friends.
Nick Curry is a health care regulatory and transactional attorney based in Washington, DC. But before he turned to a life of law, he was a PhD candidate in music theory. In this past life, his research focused on early French Neoclassicism as well as media and technology studies approaches to recent pop music. Now, his research usually focuses on either state health care laws or how to avoid killing his vast number of houseplants. This is his ninth season at TFO.
Tim Daucher has been fortunate to have studied with Carlton Herrett, National Symphony Orchestra, Lynn Priece, Air Force Strings, Jody Gatwood, Catholic University, Laura Boyd and Kenneth Sarch, Shenandoah College and Conservatory, Dennis Powowraski, National Symphony Orchestra (Summer studies) and David Hays, Missouri State University. I began my orchestra career as a sub during the last two years of my undergrad with the Maryland Symphony under the direction of Barry Tuckwell. Performing with the TFO has been on of the best experiences in my music career.
Dana Duncan-Davis holds bachelors and masters degrees in violin performance and has played with orchestras in Georgia, South Carolina, Ohio, Texas, and Michigan. Currently, she is a member of the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, the Atlanta Musicians Orchestra and the early music ensemble Lauda Musicam Atlanta. She lives in Marietta, GA where she maintains a busy teaching studio. This is her first year at TFO where she is excited to be joining her daughter, violinist Megan Wilson.
Kaydee Gabel is a pianist, and violinist in the Kansas City area. Kaydee earned her Bachelors of Music (BM) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL), and went on to study at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) until the pandemic hit in 2020. She currently runs her own private studio teaching piano and violin in KC. After taking time off since college, this past year she has played with the Opus 76 Quartet, Kinnor Philharmonic Orchestra, Westwood Ensemble, and various bands in the KC area. She is happy to return for her 2nd year participating at TFO.
Described by the Classical Voices of North Carolina as making playing the violin “seem easy, almost as child’s play,” violinist Sophia Han is the Associate Professor of Violin and Viola at Southeast Missouri State University. A versatile musician, Han has performed as guest soloist with orchestras across the US and appeared on tour with artists such as Michael Bublé, Audra McDonald, and rock band STARSET. Currently serving as the Associate Concertmaster of Paducah Symphony Orchestra, Han has held positions as a guest Concertmaster of Southern Illinois Music Festival Orchestra, Assistant Concertmaster of Tallahassee Symphony, and is in demand as an adjudicator nationally. As a chamber musician, Han is currently a violinist in the Rio Verde Quartet and performs in a duo with her saxophonist husband, Dr. Zach Stern. Prior to her appointment in the RVQ, Han was a member of the Ellen Zwillich sponsored Eppes Quartet during her DM studies at Florida State University. Han also holds degrees from the University of Michigan and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Violinist Erik Hassell resides in Kansas City where he teaches 5-8th grade strings at Oxford Middle, Cottonwood Point Elementary, and Oak Hill Elementary schools in the Blue Valley District and runs a violin studio in the evenings. He is the Associate Concert Master of the Lee’s Summit Symphony orchestra and also subs for the Springfield Symphony and Missouri Symphony (Columbia, MO) as well as performs with the Odyssey Chamber Ensemble. This will be his 7th summer with the Taneycomo Festival. Hassell enjoys spending time with friends, playing videogames, and being with his cats Fred and George.
This is Mary Hubbard’s eighth year at TFO, and as ever she is beyond thankful for the generous spirit of the Branson community and the host families. Mary is a professional dog groomer, but lives for opportunities to play and share music with others who have the passion, and nowhere is that stronger than TFO! A special shout out and eternal gratitude to Pete Marcellus, thank you for welcoming me to your home each year, you’re the best!
Jenna Kramer is a violinist and violin/viola teacher living in Pocatello, Idaho. Originally from Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Kramer received her Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from the University of Colorado Boulder and a Masters of Music in Violin Performance with a Specialization in Violin/Viola Pedagogy from the University of Oregon. She now takes lessons from Madeline Adkins, concertmaster of the Utah Symphony. Kramer performs regularly with the Idaho State-Civic Symphony and the Steamboat Symphony Orchestra. As a soloist, Kramer has performed the Bach E Major Violin Concerto with a group of Steamboat Symphony and Steamboat Youth Symphony members.
Travis Myers is a professional violinist and dedicated teacher from Edmond Oklahoma. Today, Travis teaches violin and fiddle lessons at his own private studio. He also serves as the strings director for Heartland Homeschool Bands and Strings in both Oklahoma City and Shawnee locations. When he isn’t teaching, Travis performs with the Oklahoma Chamber Symphony and attends local bluegrass jam sessions. Although classically trained, Travis also has a deep appreciation and passion for American folk music.
Kelly Rhode is a violinist and orchestra teacher based in the Metro Detroit area. After receiving music performance degrees from Grand Valley State University and Central Michigan University, she discovered a love of teaching and is currently the director of a 3rd-5th grade orchestra at University Liggett School in Grosse Pointe Woods, MI. While not playing or teaching, she enjoys board games with friends, being outdoors, hiking, practicing Feldenkrais and yoga, and traveling. This is Kelly’s eighth season at TFO and she is excited to be back again, creating music with old friends and new.
Kyli Smith is a freshman at Southeast Missouri State University. Majors include violin performance and music education. Kyli attended high school at Eureka High School in Eureka, MO, and participated in activities such as orchestra, cross country, and track. In the future, Kyli plans to teach violin and perform with an orchestra simultaneously.
Megan Wilson studied violin at Central Michigan University before completing a degree in math at Western Michigan University. She is now a lawyer based in Washington, DC where she plays with the Prince George’s Philharmonic. This is her second year at TFO.
VIOLA
Nate Bliton plays the viola and loves making recordings of wonderful music. While he holds M.M. and B.M. degrees in Music Composition from Michigan State University from his first two rounds of secondary education, he is escalating upon an old hobby with one more pass as a post-baccalaureate student in Computer Science at University of Colorado Boulder. In his spare time when not practicing Viola (of course), rollerblading as much as he can (which is invariably the best recreation), or playing with (feeding) his cats Rex and Olive, he works on software at Roosevelt Innovations in Michigan.
Clayton Bridgeman is a violist from Cape Girardeau, MO; student of Dr. Sophia Han. He graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy, was the winner of the Southeast Concerto and Aria Competition, Winner of the Missouri state-level as well as the West Central Regional level of the MTNA young artist competition and also was a national finalist in the MTNA young artist competition.
Sarah Cornish excitedly fell in love with the viola at the age of 9, and she continues to love her instrument and sharing music 25 years later. Originally from the Chicagoland area, she has made her way south to Norman, OK continuing to perform with numerous local musicians. Sarah is a graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University with a degree in Music Performance and she is also a band member of MAKS The Fox back in Chicago, IL with 2 recorded albums. Currently an Administrative Assistant by day, Sarah is also a freelance musician performing as principal violist with the OU Civic Orchestra and the OU Civic String Quartet.
Dr. Dilek Engin Stolarchuk is from Istanbul, Turkey and has been playing with TFO since 2014. Dr. Engin earned her B.A. Degree from Istanbul University State Conservatory and her MM from Marshall University. She is currently the String Department Chair at the Flint School of Performing Arts in Flint, Michigan, where she also serves as a Violin/Viola instructor. She teaches the Summer Fun with Strings at FSPA, and is the conductor of the Mason Philharmonic/Youth Orchestra. Dr. Engin is an active performer, teacher and multiple instrumentalist. She lives in East Lansing, MI with her lovely husband, bass trombonist Stefan Stolarchuk. Together, they spend their time trying to make viola and bass trombone duets a thing. Currently, Dr. Engin performs with Midland, Flint, Saginaw Bay, Jackson, Alma, Rochester, Lansing, Holland, Southwest Michigan, International, Adrian, and Oakland Symphonies in Michigan, and the Toledo Symphony in Ohio during the performance season, as assisting viola principal and section player.
Danielle Whipple is a meteorologist from Norman, OK, where she lives with her husband, two kids, a dog, and a turtle. She plays viola for OU Civic Orchestra, and piano with whoever is interested. In addition to music, her interests include: knitting and crochet, board games/video games, looking at the clouds, and pollinator gardening.
Kahauri Brown-Givens is a Chicago IL/Normal IL based cellist whose focus is on solo and chamber music. Kahauri has done solo and orchestra since the 4th grade which is when they started. Notable pieces they’ve played are Saint-Sean’s whole cello concerto at a freshman recital, and Dvorak Piano Quintet. Kahauri lead their high school’s cello section for 3 years, and is currently sitting 3rd chair in their college level orchestra.
Amy Fear is the Director of Orchestras for Blue Valley High School. She is a graduate of Wichita State University with a Bachelor in cello performance and Masters with string pedagogy emphasis. Amy is a contributing author for the GIA publications “Teaching Music through Performance in Orchestra” Vol. 1 & 2. An active performer, she performs in local and regional orchestras, including the Westwood Ensemble and Taneycomo Festival Orchestra. Outside the field of music education she loves cooking, traveling to ride new mountain bike trails and is a regional referee for USA Cycling.
A Texas native, cellist Daron Kirsch is immediately available for booking as a performer and educator, and has lost count of what year this is at TFO! He currently resides in Cincinnati with his girlfriend Alex (she’s in the clarinets!) and their small-but-mighty cadre of pets. Between days off, he manages a violin rental shop serving nearly 3,000 students per year.
Paris Roake is a cellist and teacher in the Bloomington-Normal area. Currently, they are pursuing their Bachelors of Music Education at Illinois State University and are about to student teach in the Fall of 2023. Outside of performing, learning and teaching, Paris enjoys all things outdoors, crafting, and going to concerts.
Jiayi Qin began her musical studies at age eight with cello lessons. Currently pursuing degree in music performance at Biola University. During her time at Biola, Jiayi studied under Marlin Owen, Hannah Holman and Laszlo Mezo. Jiayi is currently the cello principal of the Biola Symphony Orchestra.
Elise Thierbach is a student at Missouri State University, where she is pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance and a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics. She plays in the Springfield Symphony Orchestra, the Missouri State University Symphony, and a variety of other ensembles at MSU. This is Elise’s second year at TFO, and she is so happy to be back making music in Branson! Elise grew up in Marthasville, Missouri where her family owns and operates Thierbach Orchards and Berry Farm, and in her free time she enjoys cooking, spending time with her friends, and being outdoors!
Daniel Yung grew up in Kansas City where he started playing piano, cello, guitar, percussion, bass, and whatever else he could get his hands on. He has been part of orchestras, bands, and choirs of all varieties both in and outside of the classical world. He went to Truman State University to get his BM in Cello and BA in Piano then returned to Kansas City where he earned his MM in Cello Performance. Since then, Mr. Yung has been working as the accompanist of choirs for Pleasant Hill Middle and High School as well as freelancing and teaching on the side. Lately, he has been involved with groups such as the Westwood Ensemble, the Midwest Chamber Ensemble, a low string trio (No Treble), an indie folk rock band (Times and Places), as well as a jazz combo (Legerdemain).
CELLO
BASS
Jarrett Bastow is the Orchestra Manager and a Bassist for Taneycomo Festival Orchestra. He is the Education Manager for the Houston Symphony as of April ‘23. He has performed with several orchestras in the Ozark region in the tri-state area and maintained a private cello and bass Suzuki studio. On his spare time, he enjoys rock climbing and traveling.
Atlanta Native Adam Bernstein has been caught honkin away on the double bass in virtually every genre of music you can imagine. He regularly plays with the Atlanta Symphony, Charleston Symphony, Atlanta Ballet, and Atlanta Opera, and has performed on numerous Grammy-nominated albums, toured multiple continents, and nabbed music degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory and Michigan State University. When he isn’t obsessing over music, Adam enjoys watching terrific and terrible movies, playing video and board games, camping, hiking, viking, biking, drinking fancy whiskey and cheap beer.
Andrew Book graduated Magna Cum Laude from Wichita State in 2010 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumental Music Education and Double Bass Performance. In 2021, he graduated from the University of Kansas with a Master’s in String Pedagogy. Book taught Orchestra in Salina and then McPherson, KS for 6 years, and for the last 7 years has been Orchestra Director at Blue Valley West High School. Book has performed with the Wichita Grand Opera, Salina Symphony, Hutchinson Symphony, Bethany/Lindsborg Orchestra, and most recently the St. Josephy Symphony, Topeka Symphony, KC Civic Orchestra, and Smoky Valley Chamber Orchestra.
By day, Sarah Camey is a registered dietitian who helps kids grow and thrive at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, MO. By night, she is a bassist with the St. Joseph Symphony and Kinnor Philharmonic. Sarah earned a master’s degree in nutrition and dietetics from the University of Kansas Medical Center and a bachelor’s degree in dietetics with a minor in music from Missouri State University. She enjoys spending her free time with her 2 dogs, 1 cat, and many plants.
Jay Hawkins is excited to join in on the fun and musical challenge that TFO is! Jay currently resides in Hutchinson, Kansas and has served as principal cellist of the Hutchinson Symphony Orchestra for over 20 years. One of his favorite musical highlights was to play cello continuo with the Hutchinson Community College Choir at Carnegie Hall. Jay has enjoyed a longstanding tenure in participation of the Lindsborg Messiah Festival and has played string bass at the Tabor College “Messiah” production for over 30 years. Jay’s primary hobby is cycling and he is entranced with the beauty and potential musical opportunity of our region of the United States. He frequently visits by camping and riding mountain bike trail systems.
Blaine Rister is a musician and engineer working out of the San Francisco Bay Area. Blaine was fortunate enough to study a wide variety of musical topics while obtaining his PhD from Stanford University, which he received in 2022. Though primarily a double bassist, his broad musical interests include classical, jazz, musical theater and pop music on a variety of other instruments as well. In his spare time he can be found hiking, skiing and rock climbing in the Sierra Nevada. Blaine is excited to join TFO for his second season this year.
FLUTE
Dylan Abbott, originally from Kennesaw, GA, a town about 30 minutes north of Atlanta, is a Fourth Year Music Performance major at the University of Georgia, currently studying under Professor Angela Jones-Reus. Since Fall 2022, Dylan has performed in the University’s Wind Ensemble, the University’s premier ensemble, as well as other chamber groups, most notably a flute quartet with his fellow studio members. With graduate school auditions looming in the next year, Dylan is excited to spend part of his final summer as an undergrad performing in his second season with the TFO!
Dr. Chelsea Koziatek is a music teacher in Detroit Public Schools where she serves middle school scholars while maintaining a small flute studio and performing with the Ferndale Community Concert Band. Her indie-style band, Consuming Arts, performs original music from Detroit to Pontiac. She last “attended” TFO during the virtual season. Since then, she’s become a home brewer and even more adventurous in the kitchen.
John Ross is an accomplished soloist, educator, chamber musician, and orchestral performer. He is on the music faculty at Cottey College in Nevada, MO. Dr. Ross has been principal flute of the Italian-American Opera Festival Orchestra (CA), the Charleston Chamber Orchestra (WV), and has also performed with the Muncie Symphony, Tallahassee Symphony, the Charleston Light Opera Guild, and the Topeka Symphony. He has appeared as soloist with the Butler Philharmonic Orchestra in Hamilton, OH. Dr. Ross attended West Virginia University, Ball State University, and Florida State University, studying with Joyce Catalfano, Thomas Godfrey, Francesca Arnone, Mihoko Watanabe, and Eva Amsler.
Steven Smith is originally from Branson, MO and currently resides in Springfield, MO where he a full-time graphic designer, as well as an adjunct instructor of graphic design. Steven graduated from Drury University where he received a B.S. in Graphic Design. As a musician, Steven plays contrabass clarinet with the Missouri State University Community Band where he has been a member for the last twelve years, as well as Pinnacle Winds in Kansas City for the last two years. This year also makes his 12th season playing flute with the Taneycomo Festival Orchestra. In addition to being a founding member of TFO, Steven has also been the graphic designer for the orchestra for the last nine years. Outside of music and work, Steven enjoys his time at home with is 100+ houseplants, the occasional adventure outdoors or underground, and planning his next trip around the world.
Oboist Victoria Lee is a Southern California native returning for her tenth consecutive season with the Taneycomo Festival Orchestra. A dedicated educator, Ms. Lee maintains studios at the Orange County School of the Arts, and the Orange Coast, Irvine Valley, and Fullerton Colleges. Ms. Lee is a founding member of awardwinning reed quintet Syrinx and is principal oboe of the Santa Monica Symphony. She holds BM and MM degrees from the Orchestral Performance program at the Manhattan School of Music. Ms. Lee resides in Huntington Beach and serves her cat overlords Gunner and Sailor in her free time.
Chelsea Kanicsar is the Lecturer of Oboe at Pittsburg State University. She runs her own reed company, Prism Reeds, where she sells oboe and english horn reeds as well as processed cane. With her passion for performing and educating, Chelsea remains active as a freelancer and masterclass instructor.
Jenna Sehmann is an oboist and Instructor of Double Reeds and Music History at Southeast Missouri State University. Dr. Sehmann holds a Doctorate in Woodwind Pedagogy and Performance from the University of Iowa, Master of Music degree in oboe performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and a Bachelor of Music degree from Eastern Kentucky University. A versatile performer, Jenna has won several solo competitions, performed with orchestras throughout the Midwest, and commissioned several works for oboe and English horn. She also serves as the oboist for the non-profit wind quintet the Wild Prairie Winds.
OBOE
CLARINET
Dr. Alexandra Doyle is an adjunct professor at Sinclair College and Thomas More University, and she is the clarinet instructor at the Stivers School for the Arts in Dayton, Ohio. She is also the clarinet teacher for the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance’s after-school Q the Music program. Alex earned her graduate degrees from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and her bachelor’s degrees from the University of Houston. This is Alex’s fourth season with TFO, and this year she became the festival’s marketing director. She is excited to make music once again with her partner-in-crime, Daron Kirsch.
Logan Miller graduated from Texas Tech University with a BM in Clarinet Performance and recently finished a MM in Clarinet Performance at Southern Methodist University. While at Texas Tech he was involved in the Symphonic Wind Ensemble and the undergraduate clarinet quartet. At SMU he is a member of the Meadows Symphony Orchestra, Meadows Wind Ensemble, Meadows Opera Orchestra, and chamber ensembles. He keeps an active studio in the DFW area. His major teachers include Dr. David Shea, Profs. Paul Garner, and Stephen Ahearn. This Fall he will begin a Performance Diploma at SMU under the direction of Stephen Ahearn.
Matthew Svec is a clarinetist recently graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He enjoys playing klezmer, music by Latin American composers and new music. He has taken first prize in concerto competitions of the North Carolina Symphony, the Alexandria Symphony, UNC Bands and others. Beyond music, Matthew has a love for language and cultural exchanges. He has studied abroad in Munich, Germany and Quito, Ecuador. As a Fulbright recipient, Matthew will travel to Budapest, Hungary to study at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music after graduation.
Dr. Larkin Sanders is a native of Branson, Missouri, and currently lives in Kansas City, Missouri where she is the clarinet instructor at Washburn University, owns the Clever Clarinetist (a clarinet specialty store), is the ExecutiveArtistic Director of the Taneycomo Festival Orchestra, is the utility clarinetist for the Topeka Symphony Orchestra, and performs frequently with a variety of other ensembles. Dr. Sanders is an Henri Selmer Paris, D’Addario & Co., Brian Corbin Clarinet Products, and Silverstein Pro Team Artist. In addition to her activities as a clarinetist, teacher, and administrator, Dr. Sanders is also a composer and author of several books and self-publishes her original compositions and clarinet methods.
Dr. Andi Bragiel (she/her) is a bassoonist and music educator based in Cincinnati, OH. Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, she holds a B.S.Ed. in Music Education from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, an M.M. in Bassoon Performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and a D.M.A. in Bassoon Performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Dr. Bragiel has appeared with the Altoona Symphony, Johnstown Symphony, Greensboro Choral Society, Queen City Chamber Orchestra, Queen City Opera, and Dayton Philharmonic. She currently teaches elementary general music and maintains an active freelance career.
Bassoonist Dana Brink enjoys a varied musical life in West Virginia, where she freelances and teaches bassoon and music theory at West Virginia University’s Community Music Program. Dana holds degrees in bassoon performance from the Yale School of Music and Eastman School of Music, where she studied with Frank Morelli, George Sakakeeny, and John Hunt. An advocate for music by living composers and diversifying the canon, she is the creator behind Ten Reeds or Less, a YouTube channel dedicated to recording underperformed works for solo and chamber bassoon, and a co-founder of the Bridge Bassoon Duo.
BASSOON
A native Texan, Robyn Watson began playing bassoon at the age of 10. She received her BM-Music Technology from Belmont University, MM-Performance from the University of Houston, and in May 2022 earned a Performer’s Diploma from SMU. Robyn has been a part of music festivals in the US, Canada, and France. She has been a preferred substitute musician for orchestras all over Texas, Louisiana, and Washington, and has performed at both the International Double Reed Society and Meg Quigley Bassoon Symposium conferences. This past August, she relocated to Seattle, officially joining Trio de Bois, an all-female reed trio.
HORN
Michael Goss is an active hornist, pianist, and arranger based in Buffalo, New York. He received his Master’s in Horn Performance from Bowling Green State University in 2022, and his Bachelor’s in Horn Performance from SUNY Fredonia in 2020. Michael has appeared with the Perrysburg Symphony Orchestra, Western New York Chamber Orchestra, and Erie County Wind Ensemble, as well as several chamber groups across the Buffalo and Toledo areas. He also won 1st place in the High Horn division of the International Horn Society’s 2022 Orchestral Audition Contest. Michael is excited to be playing his first season with the TFO!
Kaylee Jones is an Idaho native and is very excited to spend her first season with the TFO this summer. She is currently a student at Idaho State University studying music education and will soon be on her way to teaching. Some of her favorite things include: reading a good book, painting with watercolors, and spending quality time with her family and friends.
Ian Owens is a horn player from central Florida and is studying music education and horn performance at Stetson University.
Andrew Sehmann plays with multiple orchestras in the Southeast. He is third horn in the Augusta Symphony, and second horn with the South Carolina Philharmonic. He also teaches horn, aural skills, and music appreciation at Young Harris College, and Georgia College in Milledgeville. His previous teachers have included: Marie-Luise Neunecker, Wolfgang Vladar, Johannes Hinterholzer, Jean Martin-Williams Mick Sehmann, Richard Deane, James Naigus, Hazel Dean Davis, Achim Reus, and Kevin Reid.
Patrick Williams is a freelance hornist and teacher based in the greater Los Angeles area. He specializes in low-horn playing and is an avid chamber musician. He holds a Master’s degree in Instrumental Performance from California State University, Long Beach where he studied with Dylan Hart. While there, his work centered around the potentialities of trans expression through contemporary genres, with a focus on the music of the late SOPHIE. He holds a B.A. in Music and German from Amherst College, where he studied with Jean Jeffries; he is a two-time recipient of the Edward Poole Lay Fellowship.
TRUMPET
Jeri Blade is a trumpeter and music educator from Normal, Illinois. She graduated from Illinois State University in 2023 with a degree in Music Education. While at ISU, Jeri enjoyed a diverse array of musical experiences including principal trumpet of the ISU Wind Symphony and Symphony Orchestra, as well as playing in jazz ensembles, chamber ensembles, and other gigging opportunities. She advanced in the National Trumpet Competition in the Military Band Excerpts (semi-finalist, 2021) and Ensemble Divisions (2020-2022). Jeri looks forward to a career in music education and performance with goals of advocating for music education and for underserved learners.
Mackenzie Caress is from Nampa, Idaho and currently going to college at Idaho State University for her undergrad in Trumpet Performance and Music Education. Mackenzie is extremely lucky to be able to play in the Idaho State Civic Symphony and the ISU Wind Ensemble, along with various other small ensembles on campus. Some of her favorite hobbies include crosswords and watching movies! Mackenzie is excited to play with the TFO this summer and can’t wait to see what lies ahead!
Joanna Leston is a third-year Music and Trumpet Performance major at the University of Iowa, where she studies under Professor Michael Gause. Joanna is involved in a number of ensembles at school, from chamber groups to pit orchestras to symphony orchestras. This is Joanna’s first summer music festival. She is excited for the opportunity to play music with such a great group of people!
Katherine Shindledecker is a trumpet player from Lexington, South Carolina and now a performer and educator in the Bloomington-Normal, Illinois area. She received her Bachelor’s of Music Performance at Winthrop University and recently graduated from Illinois State University with a Master’s of Music Performance and a Master’s of Instrumental Conducting. Katherine is a prize winning soloist and chamber musician, this is her 3rd year with the Taneycomo Festival Orchestra. Katherine has played with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra (Jacksonville, IL), Carolinas Wind Orchestra, the Illinois State Faculty Brass Quintet, and founded the Kronos Brass Quintet. She also maintains her own studio of students and gives masterclasses and clinics in the area. When she is not in the practice room, Katherine takes a deep interest in advocating for underrepresented composers and being a new music enthusiast.
TROMBONE
Thomas Ly is an active performer and music educator based in Austin, Texas. Hailing from Columbia, Mississippi, he has performed with a number of professional groups such as the Meridian Symphony Orchestra and the Mississippi Symphony and Opera. Thomas holds a Bachelor of Music Education and Trombone Performance from the University of Southern Mississippi and is currently completing his Master of Trombone Performance at the University of Texas at Austin. He also showcases his musical passion through teaching where he has a private trombone studio of his own in the Austin ISD area.
Amber Minich is a trombonist from Murrieta, California currently working on an undergraduate degree in Trombone Performance at UT Austin, studying under Dr. Nathaniel Brickens. While at UT Austin, Amber has performed with the UT Trombone Choir, winners of the 2023 International Trombone Association Remington Trombone Choir Competition. During her career as a performer, she has performed under the direction of Jerry Junkin, Carl St. Clair, Dale Warren, and Patrick Sheridan. Amber has experience teaching and playing both trombone and euphonium, in styles ranging from small bore jazz to orchestral tenor trombone.
A native of Ann Arbor, Michigan, bass trombonist Stefan Stolarchuk has been a member of TFO since 2012. He holds degrees in trombone performance from Bowling Green State University, and the University of Michigan. Known for his versatility, Stefan has performed with orchestras across Michigan, including the Flint, Midland, West Michigan, Rochester, and Ann Arbor Symphonies. He is also a frequent jazz performer in the Detroit area, and has toured with the New York Gilbert and Sullivan players, and serves on the faculty of Saginaw Valley State University. Stefan lives in East Lansing with his lovely wife, and TFO violist, Dilek Engin Stolarchuk.
TUBA
Dr. Patrick E. Young currently serves as the Director of Bands and Assistant Professor of Low Brass at Idaho State University. He also serves as the principal tubist of Opera Colorado, a renowned opera company located in the heart of Denver, CO, and serves as the bass trombonist in the Idaho State-Civic Symphony. Dr. Young received a Bachelor of Music Education degree at Young Harris College, a Master of Music Performance in Tuba from the University of Georgia, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Music Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Colorado Boulder.
PERCUSSION
Jim Bartelt comes from Charlottesville, Virginia. He spent 24 years with US Air Force and Army Bands worldwide, performing in all concert and jazz/commercial idioms. Besides military ensembles, Jim has played with the San Antonio, Birmingham (Alabama), Richmond (VA), and Corpus Christi Symphonies, among others. He was a fellowship participant at major summer festivals in Aspen and Graz, Austria and Germany’s East-West International Orchestra. Jim has served on the Percussive Arts Society Education Committee and instructed for numerous schools in Texas, Virginia, and elsewhere. He has presented clinics and masterclasses at important conferences, the scholastic and university levels here and abroad, and is active in recording and adjudication. He recently joined the Artist Faculty of Michigan’s Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and his private studio has placed students into America’s finest music colleges. Jim earned his B. Mus. from Virginia Commonwealth University and his M.M. at Florida State, where he taught applied lessons and Percussion Methods. He is an Educational Endorser for GroverPro Percussion.
Rodney Clark currently studies at Bard College/Conservatory under the direction of Sò Percussion members Jason Treuting, Eric Cha-Beach and Metropolitan Opera Orchestra Principal Timpanist Jason Haaheim. Rodney will be receiving two degrees, a Bachelor of Arts and Politics degree in the year 2026.
Cori Fincher is currently getting her Masters Degree in Percussion Performance at the University of Arkansas. She is the Graduate Assistant for the Razorback Drumline. When she’s not performing she’s reading books on her porch with her dog!
Hayden Floro grew up in Dayton, OH and currently lives in Cincinnati, OH. He is a 2021 graduate from the University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education with a Jazz emphasis. Since graduating, Hayden performs regularly in musical theater orchestras, local symphony orchestras, and various jazz groups around the city. He also teaches percussion students both privately and at Stivers School for the Arts in Dayton as the Adjunct Percussion Instructor. He is very excited to be participating in his first festival orchestra and looks forward to more opportunities just like this!
Briana Wadenpfuhl received her Bachelor of Music degree from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Tx where she served as Principal Percussionist for the Orchestra and Wind Ensemble. She also performed with the Percussion Ensemble, Opera, Austin Civic Orchestra, West Texas Symphony and the Round Rock Symphony while living there. In 2012 Briana moved to Houston to pursue her Master’s degree. While studying at UH she performed with the Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble and Opera, including performances at the TMEA and Midwest Clinics. Since graduating in 2014 she has maintained an active freelance schedule while also teaching privately in the Greater Houston Area.
Abigail Brower is an active orchestral and solo performer based in Eastern Iowa. Recent performances include guest principal and second harp with wcfsymphony in Waterloo, Iowa and guest harpist with the Cornell College (Iowa) Chamber Singers. A graduate of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, Abigail performed regularly with university ensembles while maintaining an active gig and competition schedule. She studied with Elzbieta Szmyt for over three years, and for one semester with Anneleen Lenaerts in Vienna, Austria. Abigail also has a Master of Science in Arts Management and works as a Development Associate for a local orchestra.
HARP PIANO
Dr. Christina Liu has given numerous performances as a soloist, collaborative pianist, and chamber musician in the United States and internationally. As a soloist and chamber musician, she was the prize winner in numerous competitions, and made her first orchestral debut at the age of 17. Her appearances include broadcast performances on Spokane Public Radio and Kansas Public Radio. Dr. Liu is active as a local collaborative pianist, playing for musical theater and opera productions. and has served as music director for various non-profit organizations. She currently serves as Associate Professor of Music at Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas.
