JESUS DECLARED war with the ‘liturgists’. They were the Sadducees, the Pharisees and the Scribes who gave more importance to choreography than interiority. Thus, Jesus labelled them as hypocrites. Just a while ago, a widow dropped her contribution to the Temple, and Jesus immediately praised her generosity. Now, while they were bragging about the well-adorned temple, Jesus said something that would spark controversy. “All that you see here— the days will come when there will not one stone be left on another stone that will not be thrown down.” We recently relaunched friend relationships fall apart. our pledge and sensilyo There is only one thing that SUNDAY programs to expand our endures: God. GIYA PARA SA PRAYER MEETING
Lukas 23:35-43
Para sa ika-34 na Domingo (Taon C) “PINAGTUYA-TUYA SI Jesus kan mga puon asin nagsabi: “Ilinigtas nya an iba, iligtas nya man an saiyang sadiri kun sya an pinili, an Kristo kan Dyos.” Sisay an tunay na LECTIO Divina hadi? An mayaman na napapatos nin mamahálon na gubing asin napapalibutan nin soldados? O an sarong tawong mayong harong, mayong higdaan, alagad may kapangyarihan na magpatawad asin magligtas kan kalag? Huna kan mga mayong pagtubod, an lalaking ini kapay huli ta sya nagsasabing ililigtas nya an mga tawo tumang sa mga Romano, alagad mayo ngani syang armas asin mga soldados kundi mga ordinaryong parasira. Kisisay ako naglalaom? Sa kinàbanon na hadi o sa hading langitnón? Sa panahon nin eleksyon, sisay an sakong dinadangog? “Saro sa mga kriminal na nakabitay duman nagtuya-tuya man…” An hiling kan kriminal sa gabos na tawo mga kriminal man. Kaya para saiya, mayong saysay an magbàgong buhay huli ta gabos man kriminal. Ini an paghiling kan sarong mahàbon ki Jesus. Asin saiya ining sinusugutan na gibuhon an gabos nyang makakaya sa paggamit nin antinganting tanganing sinda makadulag—asin makahàbon giraray. Makakapagsabi daw ako na nagbàgong buhay na ako? Ano an mga tinalikdan kong kasàlan? “Amen, sinasabi ko saimo, ngunyan maiba ka sako sa Paraiso.” Swerteng gayo kan parahàbon na ini. Nakasabay nya si Jesus sa pagbitay sa krus. Huli ta namatian na gayo ni Jesus an sakit asin kasusupgan na bitayon sa krus, nagmakulog sya sa parahàbon na tulos man sanang nagsulsol asin nagtubod ki Jesus bilang hadi. Ini an susi sa satong kaligtasan. Kun mag-abot an satong kagadanan, andam daw akong magpasalamat sa Dyos huli kan saiyang pagpatawad asin pagkaherak? Dai daw ako tamaan nin kapaitan asin pagtumang sa Dyos? n
Let us pray for our leaders; may their words and actions pave roads to genuine freedom.

SOCIOPASTORAL DUTIES u On Tuesday, November 8, Fr. Wilmer Joseph S. Tria, SJTP pastor, accompanied police operatives in their enforcement of the Oplan Tokhang among suspected drug personalities in Barangay Del Rosario. The operation was led by Col. Efren Orlina of the PNP Camarines Sur Provincial Command. Oplan Tokhang is a nationwide flagship program of the Duterte administration which aims at total decimation of drugs and drug-related activities in the country. The oplan has gone controversial due to alleged cases of extrajudicial executions of drug personalities during its implementation. Demistifying Halloween for the young jane marie tria santelices
Ed.—On this month of remembering our dearly departed, let us be guided with this short reflection on the increasingly secularized observance of the triduum of the Communion of Saints. THE END of October is traditionally the time of the year when Western-influenced cultures such as ours celebrate Halloween. It is held with the usual trick-or-treat for children and costume parties for adults. Both festivities are secular by nature with pagan roots from the Celtic and Gaelic Samhain Festival. In these millennial times, halloween smacks unabashedshy of commercialism. Halloween, a contraction of All Hallow’s Evening or All Saints’ Eve, is the beginning of the 3-day observance of Allhallowtide from October 30 to November 2, the time in the liturgical year dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints (hallows), martyrs, and all the faithful departed. With the advent of Christendom, these cornucopia of pagan rituals commemorating “summer’s end” and the start of a bitter cold (winter season) was incorporated into an assortment of activities that include trick-or
treat (or the related guising), attending Halloween costume parties (Danse Macabre), decorating, carving pumpkins into jacko-lanterns, lighting candles and bonfires for the dead, apple-bobbing, divination games, playing pranks, visiting alleged haunted attractions, telling scary stories, and watching horror films. These became the norms of the occasion through the years. The Christian aspect that was adopted during the time of Pope Gregory III, however, had seemed to have been lost in the flurry of secularized activities. Gradually, more solemn traditions were overshadowed and became obsolete practices. Why have cartoon characters, superheroes, and scary entities such as zombies, witches, the aswang, become more popular than the saints and martyrs of our faith? Now is the time to refocus our children to the real message of Halloween by teaching them the true essence of death and mortality and the life eternal. Now it the time to reorient them with the stories of saints and martyrs of the Church and help inspire them to emulate their lives and Christlike ways. n
