Healer Saint I HAVE been in Canada working as a caregiver for almost eight years already. Distance from home has always been really trying. There were days when I could not help but feel ST. JUDE’S Intercession very lonely. But I think what keeps me going on is my devotion to St. Jude Thaddeus. He is our patron saint in my home town. One day while driving home from work, I suddenly felt a terrible pain on my back. For a moment I just couldn’t move. So I decided to see the doctor. All the time, I reminded myself everything will be fine, St. Jude is there. At the hospital, however, I was terrified when I was told that I just made it a little earlier before a serious case of an herniated disc take over me. I was at risk of becoming lame. It was difficult. I was alone, far from all loved ones. I didn’t have anyone to take care of me. I almost lost my job. As I’d usually do, I turned to St. Jude’s intercession. I entrusted to him all my burdens. It gave me a sense of hope. A month later, I felt so relieved and happy when my doctor told to me that the new test results were saying that I was out of danger and that I could go back to work. Truly, St. Jude is always there. He listens, and brings our prayers to God. (This testimony of St. Jude’s intercession by a devotee named Norma is taken www. stjudenovenablog.blogspot.com.) n RECEIVED A GRACE THROUGH ST. 3 WEEKLY PARISH BULLETIN | Archdiocesan Shrine and Parish of St. Jude Thaddeus, Naga City
SJTP installs new parish priest THE INSTALLATION of Fr. Wilmer Joseph S. Tria last July 16, 2016, was a well-attended event. His family, the parishioners, representatives from the government and private sectors, urban poor communities, religious organizations, the clergy, and friends, came to celebrate one of the most important milestones in his life as a priest. Fr. Wilmer is a formator, teacher, writer, translator, publisher, and philosopher. This is also his first assignment as a parish priest. The highlight of the Mass of Installation was the homily of Caceres Archbishop Rolando J. Tria-Tirona, ocd, dd, and Fr. Tria’s ‘thank you’ speech. They both emphasized how St. Jude Thaddeus Parish can be an instrument in responding to the call of those who are most needy. Archbishop Tirona even reminded the parishioners to look beyond the gates and the comforts of their homes and subdivisions, and reach out. On the other hand, Fr. Wilmer’s ‘thank you’ message was centered on the parish being a refuge of the lost, the least, and the last. Furthermore, he made an appeal for the much needed support and participation of the parishioners to contribute their time, talents and treasures to the parish, so that it can extend relevant and meaningful programs and services. Together with Fr. Tria, the parishioners warmly welcome two equally dynamic, young, and progressive stewards of faith: parochial vicars Fr. Rex Luis L. Hidalgo and Fr. Nunilon Arnold F. Bancaso Jr. n

August 14-20 (Week 3), 2016 ON RETREAT. Fr. Wilmer and Fr. Rex took a week off from pastoral work at SJTP to do their annual retreat at Balai Trinitas in Botolan, Zambales, from August 8 to 12. Together with them were Fr. Rey Caceres, Fr. Jerome Gonzales, and Fr. Tito Oliva. Except Fr. Rex, all four are celebrating silver sacerdotal anniversary this year. Fr. Quirico Pedregosa Jr., op, served as retreat master.
New memo heightens reverence during Communion WITH THE Goal of deeper faith among parishioners and greater involvement in the Liturgy, St. Jude parish priest Wilmer Joseph S. Tria issued on July 23, 2016, a memo that serves as a guide to “enhance reverence during Communion Rite at Mass.” The memo particularly pointed out parts of the Communion Rites that had become routinary and been taken for granted by many parishioners. In the memo, Fr. Tria encouraged full participation of the congragation even those who opt not to receive communion. In a short chat with the pastor, he underscored the significance of actually receiving the Body of Christ as well as receiving a blessing or spiritual communion. In the memo, it is explained that “the Communion Rite begins with the Lord’s Prayer and ends with the PostCommunion Prayer.” The ritual begins as the priestcelebrant gets the ciboria of Hosts from the Tabernacle and puts them on the altar table. The celebrant distributes communion first to the Extraordinary Eucharistic Ministers and the Altar Servers. As the celebrant distributes the Body of Christ at the Altar, ushers will lead the congregation to form lines. The commentator then announces “we invite everyone to join the line and approach the minister to either receive the Body of Christ or to receive a blessing.”
As the celebrant and the Eucharistic ministers distribute communion to the congregation, the choir or cantor sings the communion song. As guide to the Ministers, those who wish to receive the Body of Christ shall open their mouths or their palms. Those who cannot or do not wish to receive the Body of Christ shall cross their arms over their chest, and the Minister shall bless them by saying “May Jesus be in your heart.” After the distribution of the Body of Christ, the ciboria shall be placed on the altar. The celebrant reposes the Body of Christ at the tabernacle while all the extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist and the altar servers kneel in adoration. The Priest-Celebrant genuflects in adoration after closing the Tabernacle. Upon rising, the rest also rise and go back to their respective seats. The celebrant distributes the Pyxes containing the Body of Christ intended for distribution to the homebound sick communicants to the respective extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist. Thereafter, the Priest-Celebrant returns to his seat for a moment of silent prayer. No music shall be played or sang as the rest of the congregation may sit at this point, also in silent prayer. After the silence, the celebrant or the commentator invites the congregation to stand for the Post-Communion Prayer. (jmts) n

Pastor urges transparency on parish funds IN A MEMO issued on July 30, 2016, St. Jude parish priest Fr. Wilmer Joseph S. Tria enjoined the Parish Pastoral Council, Area Pastoral Councils, and all Parishioners, towards full transparency and accountability on all parish finances. Fr. Tria presented the “10 Basic Policies on Financial Management System” as guide to all those involved in the collection, disbursement, and recording of all parish funds. Fr. Tria stressed that possessing right information generates involvement from all sectors of the parish. Furthermore, he expressed the need to institutionalize a financial management system for transparency and accountability to be achieved. Foremost among the policies is the streamlining of parish finances into the General Fund, for its daily operations, and the Special Fund, for special projects. The policies further included designation of authorized signatories in fund
disbursements, setting up of a Petty Cash Fund, a clear protocol for cash receipts and issuance of official parish receipts, and other matters essential to make way for transparency and accountability. The new system also sets into policy that, “the parish, in proper cases, shall subsidize or support needy communities or areas within its pastoral and territorial jurisdiction, when enough funds may warrant. In this regard, all other entities in its pastoral care may be enjoined to demonstrate support for this purpose.” The memo stipulated that the policies were to observed effective immediately. The guidelines are deemed to inspire more active involvement and participation in Church affairs. They are also aimed to strengthen trust among parishioners, at the same time, fostering sense of accountability among designated leaders and associates of the parish. With reports from jmts n
