FEW YEARS back, during my student days in one of the schools in Taft Avenue in Manila, my family met a financial crisis. I was almost close to stopping school. My parents could no ST. JUDE’S Intercession longer afford the highly expensive tuition fees. It was really a tough year for us and I had no one else to run to. I told a friend about my problem and I mentioned to her that I wanted to try asking help from St. Jude. To my surprise, she said that she was also planning to go to the Shrine of St. Jude in Manila, to pray for her own personal petitions. We went together and attended the Thursday Mass. We prayed to St. Jude and asked for his assistance. Days passed and good news came our way. I was granted 80% tuition fee subsidy from the college, and my friend got her prayers answered as well... on the same day! What are the odds, really? We went to St. Jude on the same day and got our prayers answered on the same day too! Thank you very much St. Jude! (This testimony of St. Jude’s intercession is from a devotee named Kty. She posted this on September 20, 2012, on www. stjudemanila.com, the official site of the National Shrine of St. Jude Thaddeus in J.P. Laurel, Manila. The site is home to testimonies of many devotees who have received St. Jude’s assistance in their most desperate needs.) n RECEIVED A GRACE THROUGH ST. JUDE’S HELP? Tell us your story. Periods of silence during the Mass
3S IN ACTION. On August 17, SJTP pastor Fr. Wilmer Joseph S. Tria, accompanied by Concepcion Grande P/B Letty Punzalan with Nelson Ariola, made his first pastoral visit to the informal settlers in Villa Concepcion where he anointed the sick, gave communion, and encouraged parishioners to register and actively participate in parish activities. Earlier this month, as newly-installed parish priest of SJTP, Fr. Tria articulated the direction of his pastorate: 3 S’s, for Shepherding, Stewardship, and Sanctification.
SACRED SILENCE also, as part of the celebration, is to be observed at the designated times. Its purpose, however, depends on the time it occurs in each part of the celebration. Thus within the Act of Penitence and again after the invitation to pray, all recollect themselves; but at the conclusion of a reading or the homily, all meditate briefly on what they have heard; then after Communion, they praise and pray to God in their hearts. Even before the celebration itself, it is commendable that silence be observed in the church, in the sacristy, in the vesting room, and in adjacent areas, so that all may dispose themselves to carry out the sacred action in a devout and fitting manner.
