Kolping Family: responding to the signs of time THE KOLPING Society today exists in more than sixty countries, and according to statistics, it has around 450,000 members around the world. The Kolping Society was founded in Cologne, Germany in 1849 by priest and social reformist Bl. Adolph Kolping, originally as an organization for Catholic journeymen, in response to widespread poverty caused by industrialization and the social changes that it brought. The idea of self-help and community help that Bl. Kolping espoused among his journeymen members quickly spread through Europe and beyond. The smallest unit is of the Kolping society is the “Kolping Family,” a unit of at least ten members. The Shrine and Parish of
St. Jude Thaddeus is blest with one Kolping Family which started in 2015. Originally, it has 14 adult members, but later on expanded upon the creation of the Kolping Youth which has 12 members. The Kolping Family (KF) is an empowered group whose passion is geared toward working together and conducting activities in the community, promoting the good of all in a Catholic and Christian environment. The organization constantly works for social change and economic stability, giving importance to education, organizational work and other programs. The Kolping Family of SJTP has conducted several activities promoting education, work, and spirituality. It has taken
steps to help the parish raise awareness in nurturing the solo parents for them to feel that they are not neglected and alone in their plight. KF has participated in many parish formation activities. It continues to enrich its members not only through spiritual formation, but capability building seminars like Microfinance, Social Entrepreneurship, Driving, Leadership Training, Vegetarian Cooking, Handicraft and has contributed to enrich Christian tradition by way of making advent wreaths, candles for processions, palm leaf used during palm Sundays, and Christmas decors. The Kolping Youth has also played an important role in fostering sense of belonging and friendship and social activities relevant to present times and calling. n
divine mercy association
Sharing Jesus’ mercy and love to everyone THE DIVINE Mercy devotion began after Jesus appeared to the Polish nun St. Maria Faustyna Kowalska in 1931. The devotion is founded on the 600-page diary of St. Faustina, a faithful recording of her encounters with Jesus from 1931 to 1938, first, through the advise of her spiritual director and confessor, Fr. Michael Sapocko, and later, at the command of Jesus himself. Sr. Faustina was tasked by Lord Jesus 1) to remind the world of the truth of our faith revealed in the Holy Scripture about the merciful love of God toward every human being; 2) to entreat God’s mercy for the whole world and particularly for sinners, through the practice of a new forms of devotion to the Divine Mercy presented by the Lord Jesus, and 3) to initiate the apostolic movement of the Divine Mercy which undertakes the task of proclaiming and entreating God’s mercy for the world and strives for Christian perfection, following the precepts laid down by St. Maria Faustyna.
The five basic elements of the devotion are: 1) The Image of the Divine Mercy, one of the holiest icons in the Catholic Church was made through the specific request of Jesus himself and Jesus commanded that the image be venerated in all churches throughout the world. 2) The Feast of Divine Mercy is the main reason Jesus created this new devotion. He desired that the second Sunday after Easter be consecrated as the ‘Feast of Mercy’. On this day, he promised that anyone who receives Confession and Communion and performs any one act of mercy will receive complete remission of sins and punishment. 3) Three powerful prayers which were taught by the most Holy Trinity to Sr. Faustina on different encounters namely: the Chaplet of Mercy, the 3 O’ Clock Prayer, and the Novena of Chaplets. These three are essential elements of to which our Lord Jesus attached great promises. The Chaplet of Mercy will serve to appease Divine wrath (Diary 476). Whoever will recite it will receive great mercy at the
hour of death. Priests will recommend it to sinners as their last hope of salvation. Even if there were a sinner most hardened, if he were to recite this chaplet only once, he would receive grace from His infinite mercy (Diary 687). 4) At the hour of great mercy, 3pm, Jesus will refuse nothing to the soul that makes a request of Him in virtue of His Passion (Diary 1320). 5. The essence of this devotion is Trust in His Divine Mercy. The more we trust the more graces we will receive from his infinite mercy. Jesus wants us to show mercy to our neighbors out of love for him, always and everywhere. The Divine Mercy Association (DMA) in SJTP was installed by Msgr. Zosimo Ma. Sañado more than two years ago, but the association has started its home evangelization program on the first Sunday of August in 2014. DMA started with two active Evangelization teams namely: Villa Grande Homes Team headed by Juan Divine Mercy ... to p.4
