JOHN ERIC SILVA, sacristan. John Eric’s life as a sacristan is one of a commitment. For eight years, he was a volunteer worker at the La Porteria Parish in Calabanga, Camarines Sur, until such time the opportunity of serving sjtp came along. His friend and former co-worker at La Porteria, John Ray, introduced him to the two Parochial Vicars, Frs. Nunz and Rex. That was how he joined the new parish team and the rest is history. On July 8, 2016, he started taking the many tasks of a sacristan at sjtp. John Eric is third among four siblings. Born on January 25, he is quiet but energetic. He loves helping others and easily adapts to the energy surrounding him. He is simple and does not like complications. His love for food and veggies keeps him healthy and fit to the job. As a sacristan, he takes care of preparing and coordinating Masses, and even cleanup, and he secures well sacred vessels. He sees to it that he plays the right bell chimes. His duties do not end in the roles assigned to him but beyond. Being passionate of the things he does, any lector or altar boy experiences the magnanimity of his heart. GODOFREDO POLOPOT JR., cook. Watching and istening to him as he share his thoughts on the second of the Seven Last Words of Christ on Good Friday was a heartwarming one. This young man has so much zeal to offer in his youth. Godô, as he is fondly

called, hails from Zone 6, Del Rosario, Naga City. An eldest among five siblings, he only wishes something good for his family. His brother, Jepoy or ‘Bluetooth,’ an altar server, has brought change in his life. Through Fr. Arnel Haber and Bluetooth’s connection, the job at sjtp was offered to him. Godô’s responsibilities at the parish starts with preparing the vestments, cleaning up the rooms, restrooms, and halls, washing dishes, and setting the table. When Nanay Beth, the parish cook, left sjtp, he was trained to do Nanay Beth’s expertise. And to improve his cooking skills, Chef Randy, of the Madrigal Foundation, trained him to prepare different menus. Godô is a fast learner; he dreams of enrolling in a skills development course— either automotive or welding. He believes that learning and acquiring many skills can help one uplift status in life. In his spare time, he loves playing online games and watching movies. He spend his Tuesdays with his family. Serving the parish has taught him a lot: to be grateful in every blessing he receives and attain fulfillment by serving other. In his own prayer time, where he would usually reflect God’s countless favors, he enjoys peace, serenity, and direction— always new in every experience.
JANETH NELEGRITO, laundrywoman. Janeth’s house is just a few steps from the church. She has been taking care of the clothes and vestments of sjtp’s priests in the last five years. She does the washing for three days and two days for ironing. As a mother of five children and a wife, Janeth manages well her time for work. She is grateful that she has been serving the parish for years now. Her job is a big help in increasing her family income which used to solely rely on her husband who drives a pedicab. Janeth and her husband work tirelessly for the education of their three children. They have five children. Their eldest is graduating this year with a degree in Agricultural Science at the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (cbsua). Their second child is finishing Senior High School, while the third is graduating from the elementary. Soon, the other two will graduate also. On Sundays, Janeth attends mothers’ class at the parish. During mothers’ class, they conduct bible studies. As much as she would like to attend prayer meetings regularly, she could not because of her duties at the parish. Janeth however discloses that no matter how busy one is, one has to find time for God, has to find purest of intentions—cleaner than the vestments and whiter than the linens she washes. She hopes her family can fully be a family that prays together. 4

Familia: in the Lord’s care F amilia, our parish-based community, started in Manila 24 years ago. The following year, we started Familia in Naga City with five couples and was approved by then Archbishop Leonardo Z. Legaspi. Our mission—to bring more families to God—was realized as Familia grew in number in 13 parishes in Camarines Sur. In sjtp today, we have 20 active members
composed of married couples, married men, married women, single men and women. We conduct home-based Empowered Christian Living Seminar (ecls) in available spaces in members’ homes if church, chapel, or the parish hall is not available, and to create a friendly and more relaxed atmosphere for our participnts. Being the area head, Bro. Judge Filemon
Montenegro and his wife, Medz, handle four parishes in Pili and Baao. With our vision, “Communities of empowered Catholic families passionately witnessing everywhere” and the support of our spiritual director, Fr. Wilmer Joseph Tria, and God’s help and guidance, we will continue to spread God’s word to more families. For those interested in the Familia Community, please contact the Area Head at 0925.947.7276 or 0917.770.2313. 4
