SANNY MENDEZ, musician and office staff, comes from a big family, after his parent adopted eight abandoned children who eventually his own became brothers and sisters. The youngest in the original siblings of four, he was blessed with experiences that made him stronger and kept his faith alive. With a degree in bsba and an it course diploma, he has shared more of his talent in music and many things that he learned from school. An ex-seminarian himself, Sanny has taken care of the youth and music lovers of the parish and other Naga parishes as well. He organizes choirs wherever needed. His propensity in music makes any Eucharistic celebration lively. When asked about dreams of composing his own songs, he smiles and shares his favorite adage: “Bloom where you are planted.” Sanny also helps at the parish office. Born on 18 November 1990, he is a young and thoughtful father to a baby boy. He loves farming as he loves his music. Aside from being a musician, he’s also into soccer, sepak takraw, and chess where he excels and won competitions. He owns a motorbike but dreams to drive a car of his own someday. His reason for buying one? He wants to accommodate more passengers for his pastoral works. Sanny also loves gardening. (l-r) Sanny, Dianne, and Julius.
F
or the last part of our feature on the men and women of the sjtp convent, we bring you a musician, a secretary, and a all-around server. We’re sure that with them, daily grind at sjtp is made more exciting.
DIANNE ORDEVIZA, secretary, an 18-year old graduate of an associate course in Computer Technology, is blest to have found a secretarial job at the parish through the help of Bro. Sanny. After the parish secretary went on maternity leave, Dianne was immediately hired. She is not really new in the Parish as she has been a member of the Thaddeus Choir for almost a year now. Dianne easily adapts to any environment. She is extrovert, persistent, with strong sense of initiative, and is able to communicate efficiently. She has passion for excellence in everything she does. She has turned her painful experiences in life into her own strength. When Dianne’s father abandoned them, she held to her resilience by helping her mother augment the family’s income by selling guavas harvested from a tree in their own backyard. When a typhoon unfortunately uprooted the guava tree, a rambutan tree that belongs to a neighbor leaned towards their yard. Luckily, their neighbor has a generous heart and allowed her to sell the produce of the rambutan tree. Dianne faces hardship with grace, and her kindness blesses her a forgiving heart. She perseveres in her daily secretarial work and is open to any learning that comes despite mistakes in exercising duties. She says she is blest to have been surrounded with good people—like Sis. Ampy. This also allows her to adhere to the saying “Be good, do
good, and feel good.” In her sjtp experience, she is assured that God is taking good care of her. JULIUS MARIANO FLORES, server, was inspired by a dream: he was in a peaceful place, he feels tremendous joy, and Ina is calling him. This dream was etched in his young heart so that when he was in Grade 3, the silence of the Church attracted him. In 2008, Julius volunteered to then sjtp sacristan mayor, Kuya Jie Relucano. And despite the distance between the Church and their home in Del Rosario, he also encouraged his playmates to serve in the Parish. Julius practically grew up in St. Jude where he also received his First Communion. Now, he serves in the convent. He prepares the dining table, serves food, maintain cleanliness, and attends to the needs of Parish fathers. On Sunday afternoons, he still finds time to serve in the Lord’s table— as an altar server. As a worker in the Parish, he was once reprimanded for a mistake that he did. But he took this as an opportunity to be better at work, that whenever a mistake is corrected, he learns from it. Julius wants to be a priest, but he thinks he doesn’t have the resources yet. He never loses hope. He wants to follow the Lord’s will, to serve Him in any way He wants. He also sees the possibility of becoming a teacher. His earnings from his job support his studies as he is now in Senior High School. Julius is the eighth among nine siblings. He is soft-spoken and quick in helping others in need, he is ever cheerful, and doesn’t complain. “No matter how busy you are, do not stop serving the Lord. Give time to Him, no matter how short,” Julius shares his motto. 4 INA AMONG HER CHILDREN
