A community under St. Padre Pio’s care
T
he Abor family is a family of Marian devotees. They have been promotion novena for the Blessed Mother on many occasions, especially during the month of May. For a while, they had their residence in Zone 6 of Del Rosario. There, they built a temporary house of worship out of light materials just that they can have a place for the devotion. The Abor family consequently moved to Zone 5 of the same barangay, but they also brought with them Marian devotion. After some time, came a sacristan from Buhi, Camarines Sur, Francis Espiritu, who joined the Abor family to in spreading the
tradition. It was Francis who coordinated with the parish regarding spiritual needs of the community. Once, they requested Msgr. Nono Sañado, then sjtp pastor, to celebrate Mass for the last day of the novena. Msgr. Nono, in turn, suggested to the community to be united and cooperate in building a chapel in honor of then new saint, Padre Pio of Pietrelcina. It was in August 2015 when the chapel of Padre Pio in the area was inaugurated. The image of Padre Pio from the parish was processioned around the community and a new image was installed in the chapel.
The parish has scheduled a community Mass in the chapel every 23rd day of the month. Until now, the religious life of the community of the Padre Pio Chapel has been kept alive and active. The land on which Padre Pio Chapel stands has been borrowed from a resident of Jardin Real Subdivision. In 2016, Typhoon Nina totaled the chapel but the community rebuilt it at the said borrowed lot. To date, the sisters in law Nenita San Jose and Magdalena Abor take care of the chapel’s cleanliness and activities. The Padre Pio Chapel will be celebrating its second fiesta on the September 23. 4

It is not so much about our yearly pilgrimage towards a cold statue of Ina but a journey towards the lost, the last and the least members of our Christian community. Mary, in her Magnificat, prays and sings: “He has put down the mighty from their thrones, and lifted up those who are
downtrodden. He has filled the hungry with good things, but has sent the rich away empty.” Indeed, as we celebrate her feast, we should not forget to thank her for this beautiful prayer for justice and peace. Sana matapos na ang gulo sa ating bayan. Sana mawala na sila sa tuktok ng tatsulok upang tayo’y magkaruon ng kapayapaan. The greatest gift of Mary to us is her son, Jesus, who taught us the path of justice and mercy. To see and smell evil, to speak for justice and peace are the fruits of true devotion to Mary. The renovation of Edessa Hall and construction of three fully air-conditioned function rooms within is now going on. The target date of its blessing is October 28, the feast of St. Jude. This will allow us to accommodate simultaneous activities such as meetings, lectures and banquets such as wedding, baptism and birthday. The total estimated project cost is Php 3.5m. For one year, we were able to save 2.1 million pesos. We only need to raise 1.4 million to complete the project. Those who wish to support this project, please get envelopes from our ushers and visit the Parish Office for the remittance and the receipt. Thank you. In view of this project and succeeding projects of the Parish, we encourage you to make a monthly pledge of any amount you are willing to donate for these projects.
