he Office of the Archdiocesan Chancellor has issued a Chancery Bulletin to inform our parishes with some important announcements: The Archdiocesan Recollection and Christmas Gathering of Parish Secretaries is scheduled on Monday, December 11, 2017. Registration starts at 7:30am at the Parish of Our Lady of La Porteria, Calabanga, Camarines Sur. This will be a whole day gathering to culminate with a Eucharistic celebration in the afternoon. Parish priests are asked to excuse the secretaries from their respective parishes on the mentioned date to attend the said event. There will be no office at the Curia (Archbishop’s Residence) from December 20, 2017 until January 2, 2018. Office will then resume January 3, 2018. Last day of office transactions will be on December 19. Likewise, there will be no confirmation from December 20, 2017 to January 2, 2018. Our Archbishop, Most Rev. Rolando J. Tria Tirona, ocd, will celebrate his Episcopal Ordination Anniversary on December 29, 2017. He will celebrate a Thanksgiving Mass at the Carmelite Monastery at 6:30am. We are encouraged to attend the Mass and offer prayers for our Archbishop. 4

Year of the Clergy and Consecrated Persons
manila—In his first pastoral exhortation as head of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, Archbishop Romulo Valles of Davao announced that the 2018 calendar will be dedicated to the clergy and consecrated persons. The year, he said, envisions that clergy and consecrated persons become “renewed” servantleaders “who care most especially for the least, the lost and the last”. He said activities throughout the year will be dedicated to the promotion and recognition of priestly and religious vocations. “We aim towards the integral renewal of the values, mind-sets, behavior and life-styles of the clergy and consecrated persons,” Valles said. “It will be a year, too, of revisiting ways of seminary and religious formation and the collaboration with the laity in the work of mission and ministry,” he said. The new pastoral letter will be read in all Masses on December 3, the first Sunday of Advent, when dioceses will announce
the opening of the Year of the Clergy and Consecrated Persons (yccp). In 2013, the cbcp has launched a nine-year “spiritual journey towards the 500th Jubilee of Christianization of the Philippines in 2021 with a different theme for each year. The yccp followed the Year of the Parish as a Communion of Communities which officially ended on November 27. The cbcp noted the challenge of “new evangelization” and stressed that the clergy, the religious and members of the secular institutes are the “key” to it. And as the Church embarks towards a new evangelization, the bishops also stressed the “dismal shadows” brought about by some clergy and consecrated persons themselves. “There were occasions of frailty and scandals that sadden us. Such misconducts call for sincere reflection and humble repentance and reparation,” Valles added. “May these faults point us to new and vast possibilities of renewal and communion with those who are weak and broken,” the cbcp head said. 4 cbcpnews
As Year of Parish ends, Church urged to reflect on ‘new challenges’ tagbilaran—At a Mass on Nov. 27, Monday, to mark the culmination of the Year of the Parish, Tagbilaran Bishop Alberto Uy, emphasized that the event is a crucial opportunity to reflect on issues that challenge the Church’s commitment to the Gospel. “You are expected to make a reflection as to how to respond as a church to the BECs, to the challenges of the times, specifically [how] the millennial are expressing themselves, the trend of drug use, the painful reality of EJKs and other moral issues,” he said, addressing participants of the national gathering for Basic Ecclesial Community directors and coordinators.
The prelate stressed the need for new ways to address what the Church encounters as “new minds and contents with evolving context.” “The Church needs to recognize that new approaches and strategies must be explored if we are to remain faithful to the mission of the Gospel,” added Uy. FUNDAMENTAL NEED FOR GENEROSITY
The Tagbilaran bishop emphasized the “fundamental need” for generosity in doing mission in today’s world. “A fundamental need in this mission is to possess a generous heart, I pray that this may be an event of the spirit; that this gathering
triggers in all of us a profound commitment to be generous in evangelization,” he said. Uy further warned that “without generosity, plans will remain papers and ideas never come to life.” MORE EVANGELIZERS WANTED
The Bishop of Tagbilaran concluded, saying that “the Church needs evangelizers, the Church needs you, people who recognize that as they open their hands to reach out to BECs, those same hands are field with greater joy and peace.” Coming from different parishes nationwide, BEC directors and coordinators will participate in the 3-day gathering to represent, report, and share about their BEC experiences in their respective dioceses.
