THE MUSTARD SEED

I

n the gospel this Sunday, Jesus presents the parable of the mustard seed as an illustration of the Kingdom of God. And he invites us to look at our faith in the light of this parable.

If we will try to observe the descriptions It is for sure great. But let us be reminded expressed in our gospel, we will see that the parable is also a challenge being that the mustard seed is the presented by Jesus for us to SUNDAY smallest among the seeds, but consider, so much so that we REFLECTION soon it grows and becomes the will continue the works of biggest plant in the garden, useful evangelization and building of the kingdom not only for man but, more so, for of God here on earth. Grateful heart

efore, I was not really aware of St. Jude Thaddeus as Patron of Difficult cases. I just learned about it in testimonial dinners of CPA passers; but I didn’t usually pray to him for intercession until I enrolled for in-house review. My mother gave me a strip of paper, it was one of the 81 copies because it ST. JUDE’S said ‘leave 9 copies INTERCESSION inside the church everyday for 9 days.’ I prayed it 6 times a day, but not consistently. So when there were Novena Masses for the feast day of Saint Jude, I religiously attended those Masses during our final examinations. I prayed to him that he help me and my friends graduate last October 2017, and through him, my prayer was answered. With that, I decided to buy and pray the Novena Booklet for St. Jude Thaddeus so that I can pray it during my review for the board examinations in Baguio. I was not able to pray it continuously but I tried to complete the 9 days of the novena. The first time I read it, I honestly admit that I didn’t understand any word. Praying, however, relieved me of my worries. On November and December, I just slept after classes which made me feel guilty. I prayed for guidance to endure cold weather and study despite of it. Slowly, I was able to study and review lessons for the exam. Once, my faith was even tested by a cousin-in-law who was a pastor. He questioned our reverence of saints. I believe I have answered him correctly: we Catholics do not worship Saints, we only ask for their intercession and try to imitate what they did for Christ. I may not have convinced the pastor, but it made my faith to God and St. Jude stronger. As the board exams drew near, I prayed to God, surrender all my worries, and that through the intercession of St. Jude, he let me become a Certified Public Accountant, which he generously did! Now I pray gratefully to the Lord and St. Jude for allowing me to pass the CPA Board Exams on May 2018. 4 A sharing from Kae Dominique Sta. I am truly blessed to have you as my Dad. You are my biggest supporter, my rock, and my inspiration. I have no doubt that God took a piece of you to make me the person I am.

I have countless father-daughter memories to cherish for a lifetime and I am thankful to you for all the memories that are thickly embedded within my heart. Even though it is hard for me to express you how much I love you, I will always make you proud that you have a daughter like me. My achievements are the way to show my love for you. You are always loved, Papa.—Karla Mae Baldemoro ****** dear lord, thank you for giving me the best ‘Papa’ in the world. Thank you for his wisdom, his patience, and the many lessons that he taught me as I was growing. May you continue to shower him with your blessings. Please keep him safe and healthy so that he’ll enjoy a long and happy life. I also pray that all the fathers in the world will have a beautiful life with their families. May they serve as the foundation of love. Above all, thank you for being our Almighty Father. Thank you for the unconditional love and for not giving up on us. Amen.—Alyssa Mae Paa, SK Official ****** Fathers’ Day is usually celebrated on the third Sunday in the month of June. It is celebrated to honor and respect fathers. It’s a day to show how much your father means a lot to you. You can show that by thanking your father for all the sacrifices he has done in your life. Whether you spend the day out by celebrating or get to buy him a special gift, or just a simple celebration in your house, it’s a time to show appreciation for all the fathers out there. We are very grateful for our fathers each day, but Father’s Day is special for him and for us because of the signs we show that he’s important in our lives. The role of a father is a wonderfully rewarding privilege. Your father is indubitably the most important person in every family. He had made a lot of sacrifices for you and your family. He works diligently day and night and at par with the evolving society. He makes sure that none of the members feel dejected for lack of anything. They are striving to work hard just to provide all of your needs and for the betterment of your life. Other fathers have to work away from home and work abroad. They have to face some challenges and obstacles, they don’t get to see their families for months at a time; some for over a year due to work obligations. Fathers take up all the responsibilities, be it the education of his children or every

other monetary needs. All fathers are brave, selfless, and affectionate man. If you have your father, grab the chance now to hug and kiss him and tell how much you love them. Why? Because you are very lucky to have a father. It’s important that he be rewarded for what he is and what he has been doing for the whole family. Growing up fatherless isn’t as bad as people make it to be. Yes. I grow up without a father but there’s no reason for me to complain. God was amazing because I was truly blessed with my wonderful mother and grandmother who was more than I ever could have needed. They are the one who acts as my mother and father. They are the one who made a lot of sacrifices for me and love me unconditionally since the very beginning. And to all the fathers out there, and to my Papa, Happy Father’s Day po.—Jasmin Ebreo, 21 ****** I was born the youngest of 13 children, 8 boys, 5 girls. Whenever people hear about this, they would often say, “Galíng ng Papa mo, ah!” or “Sipag, ah!”, I know exactly what they mean, but yes, my father might have done something right to be able to not just sire, but to raise 13 children well and to influence them well beyond his lifetime. You see, my father passed away two days after my 6th birthday. Since that fateful day, my father became a memory, a story, an anecdote shared to me by older brothers and sisters. During my teenage years, I used to envy my elders for having something that keeps them connected with my father; something that keeps them as his children. But as I grew up, I realized that the love and care, as well as the discipline and encouragement I got from my siblings are all because of him. He molded them to become a better person. He made sure they get the education they needed to succeed. He taught his sons and daughters to be tough no matter what life may bring. And yes, because of my siblings, I can daresay I am doing pretty well. In the end, I must admit that I don’t really know what it is like to have a father. My mother did everything she could so I would never feel lacking. But despite all of these, I will still hold my name with pride. I am Mary Antonette Basbas, youngest daughter of Rogelio Basbas Sr and I will always be his legacy, until we meet again.—Antonette Basbas-Domer, 28 4 christian guaves
