IN GOD’S OWN TIME

O

ften times we ask the Lord to give us something, oftentimes for our personal needs, sometimes for others, and at time, it is not even out of necessity but out of mere desire.

There is nothing wrong in asking him will simply continue. He is not asking the Lord for favors, given the Jesus to automatically answer his request knowledge that he will provide; but but rather submitting himself SUNDAY since not all that we ask for are before Jesus’ divine will. Parati syang may aagihan na disyerto tanganing mapararom an satong pagtubod. Asi sakong pinakahuring disyerto?

Alagad, an Dyos igwa man na mga soldados. Sinda an mga anghel na parasurog. Dawa si Jesus aki kan Dyos, igwa syang mga anghel na nakaantabay sa saiya. Ini man an kamugtakan nyato gabos. Kita nagbabaklay sa kinaban palibot nin mga mababangis na demonyo asin mga mabubuot na anghel. Ano an sakong personal na ekspiryensya sa sakong paglakbay sa kinaban? 4

VALENTINE’S DAY OR ASH WEDNESDAY?

from

to

penance

valentine’s day is known to be the Couple’s Day but since Valentine’s Day this year also fall on the same day as Ash Wednesday, what do you think the couples will do during that day? Most of the couples celebrate this day to express love to their partners. They make surprises, such as giving long, sweet, touchy messages, chocolates, a dozen of flowers, and other things. But love is not only for the lovebirds. One way to celebrate Valentine’s Day on Ash Wednesday is to express love to God. You can share the love of God to other people by simply encouraging them to follow the rules during Ash Wednesday like fasting and abstinence. These simple things are common practices of every Roman Catholic around the world.— Hannah Jane Lalaguna, Antioch/Thaddeus Choir ****** many simple people celebrate Valentine’s Day in different pure and simple ways, and it surely is a celebration of many kinds of real love, i. e. between parents and children, between husbands and wives, between friends, between couples, and most of all between God and His children. This year, it coincides with Ash Wednesday, which is one of the two days out of 365 days in a year when we Catholics—14 to 60 years old—are asked to observe fasting and abstinence. (The other day is Good Friday.) This is an opportunity to show that we love God above all by following the commands of the Shurch. A little sacrifice will do the magic! Some people either celebrate Valentine’s Day before or after February 14. Others celebrate it with a kiss, with a simple Valentine’s greeting, with a card either—bought or selfmade, with a love letter, with simple gift and even with a good turn done to our love ones.

he thing is Valentine’s Day and Ash Wednesday both fall on the 14th of February. To many Catholics, albeit jokingly, this is an anomaly, even an irony. Many foresee a clashing of popular notions of the day of hearts and faithful adherence to the traditions of sacrifice on the first day of Lent. The Parish Weekly Bulletin dares to say the two can be reconciled, and as sjtp Pastor Fr. Wilmer Tria articulates it, February 14 can be a journey “from Romance to Penance.” As we try to reflect on this, we are brought back to love—in its every aspect. Here are some sharings from sjtp parishioners: There are maybe a hundred and one ways to show our love on Valentine’s day. Have you tried cooking your specialty nonmeat dish for you beloved family on this very special day? I assure you these people are not less happy than their more affluent counterparts.—Simple People ****** in my generation, writing love notes and sending cards have long been a tradition. But in today’s generation, social media is the fastest way of communicating to our love ones. We let it make or break our relationships And with each passing decade, more and more people are crazy about gadgets and modern technology effects. The choice is ours to use it wisely—or bitterly. This year’s day of romance is celebrated on the day on which also falls Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. This day is is for fasting and abstinence. I ask myself then, “What do i have to give up as a Lenten sacrifice?” When we sacrifice something we die a little, because we simply get rid of relief and comfort. We have to go through certain pains that sometimes become source of our daily nuisances or frustrations. For me this Valentine’s Day is another victorious day reminding me of my marital vows more than three decades ago, constantly reminding me of marrying the man I love and the celebration of having blessed with five lovable children. My relationship with my husband has not been a typical Disney story, but we manage to keep our feet firm on the ground. Trials and tribulations did come our way. When God allows us to go through pain, it helps build our character. As a mother and wife it made me mature

and my faith deepened. My journey has not always been on the smooth road or in the likes of living like Riley, but positivity that goes with an ardent heart pays off especially when people try to burden you with their worldly cares and self-centeredness. Life has been good to me with God always taking care of me, guiding me and giving me His support. With a grateful and repentant heart I will make this year’s Valentine’s Day celebration different from the rest I had; serving Him, loving, and forgiving and above all to share His goodness. The journey may not be easy, but in Jesus everything is possible. I may not be worthy but it’s always worth a try so as not to waste the opportunities He is constantly giving me... I can and I will.—Maria Evangeline, 59, Del Rosario ****** valentine’s day is one of the most beautiful days of the year. It is one of the most awaited days for most of couples, friends, and/or families. People celebrate this day through dating their sweethearts, giving surprises, rejoicing, and experiencing the love of one another. This year, Valentine’s Day and Ash Wednesday will be on the same day, so this time, it’s our turn to sacrifice our happiness this coming Heart’s Day since Jesus Christ died for us to pay for our sins, and now we should realize that we can show our love for him not just by being faithful but through sacrificing same as he did for us because of his love. Now, instead of eating luxurious food like meats and sweets, why don’t we eat veggies? Everyone can make delicious foods out of vegetables. No exulting, but your partner or your Valentine may actually understand the way we sacrifice for our Saviour. Couples may give their gifts or surprises later, after a week of sacrificing, perhaps. Jesus Christ is more important than pleasurable things. Jesus’ love is bigger than ours. We must take this oppurtunity for us to experience what true love really means to us even for just in a short yet simple while.—Justine Castillo Gomez, Thaddeus Choir 4
