his Sunday is the first Sunday of Lent. In the Church calendar, the Lenten season covers forty days starting from Ash Wednesday to Palm Sunday, the time when we commemorate the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem when he was proclaimed as king-son of David—this also marks the beginning of the Holy Week. The Gospel for this Sunday tell of are able to combat temptations and not an episode in the life of Jesus where: succumb to sin, we do not become divine 1.
“Maggibo kita nin tulong tolda.” Huli kan pangyayari, natakot si Pedro asin an saiyang mga pag-iriba. Dai ninda aram an itataram. Dai ninda aram an gigibuhon. “Ini iyo an Aki kong namumùtan; magdangog kamo saiya.” 4

PRAYERS FOR & FROM ABROAD
there’s a bit of migrant in everyone since i was a kid, I couldn’t hardly remember the last time my family was complete. Sometimes it’s because my mother or my father was working abroad, or both of them working in Manila, while I and my siblings lived with our grandparents. Now as a young adult, soon to graduate in March and to start to have my own career, my family is not complete yet. My father and sister are abroad. My prayers for my love ones haven’t changed over the years and through the complexities of time. I always pray, whenever any member of my family is away, that may God protect them from any harm, let them enjoy good health, and ensure their safety. I was blessed and raised with religious parents. They serve in the church whenever they were around. Truly I’ve been blessed with a loving family. We may not be perfect, but when problems and crises caused by long distances beset, God always takes care of us. We’ve been through lots of hardships, but our ardent prayers and hardwork would always pay off. I am still hoping, praying, and having faith that one day we will all be together again as a family. Prayer never fails, and as the saying goes, “distance gives us a reason to love harder.”— Inah S., 23, Villa Corazon Subdivision
T
here’s a bit of migrant in everyone—said Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, Archbishop of Manila, during a recent visit to the u.s. Perhaps, this is even more felt by Filipinos, especially with the number of our overseas workers constantly among the world’s top ten. Our government policy on labor export is even praised by the international community. The good Cardinal’s words echo in our reflection: When one leaves to work abroad, another one, or a family, is left behind. Doesn’t this make each of us indeed a bit of a migrant? As migrants all, then, as we celebrate the National Migrants’ Sunday, we turn to prayer. Here are heartfelt wishes of our brothers and sisters here and abroad: ****** lord, thank you for blessing me with a supportive Mom. I know sometimes I am not the perfect child. I know I challenge her a lot with my views and actions, but I also know that You have given me to her so she can love me. I pray, Lord, that you continue to bless her with patience for me as I grow up and become more independent. I ask You to give her a sense of peace about my choices and always guide and make her safe because she is working abroad to fullfill our needs. I also ask, Lord, for you to comfort her and give her happiness in the areas of her life where she needs You most. I pray that You continue to bless her relationships and ask for her to have joy and success in the things she wants to do and achieve. Lord, I also ask for You to bless me with wisdom, love, and understanding for my Mom. I pray that You give me a heart that continues to love my mother and open up my mind to what she wants for me. Let me not take for granted the sacrifices she has made for me. I ask for You to bless me with patience in times when I do not understand, and the openness to show my love for her.—Karla Mae Baldemoro, Antioch/Thaddeus Choir ****** lord, i ask for protection and safety over my spouse, my baby my wife is carrying, my parents, my family members in the Philippines, and myself today. Please lead us
with Your mighty hands today and always. Protect us from any enemy and evil that try to hinder our way. Do not let the ways of the enemy blind our eyes. We know that You are always with us, so that no one could ever stop us. Please watch over us and guard us all safely throughout this day, so that we may all arrive safely in our homes. Amen.—Robert Eiffert Jr., 27, Abu Dhabi ****** as soon as we got married on June 10, 2017, we had to transition into a long distance relationship as his work has since been based in Dubai. The beginning of our long distance relationship was easy peasy at first, and then became tough as it required a little work to do to make our schedule meet. If you really love the person you married, communicating will not be a hindrance to two people who really love each other unconditionally. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays Skyping even in the wee hours of the morning eased our longing for each other’s company, while chatting everyday kept us on the go and updated with our day to day activities. With our long distance relationship, I could not stop asking God to watch over him, for his safety and good health. In his absence, I am now pregnant with our first baby which is due by May this year. This gives me the strenght to carry on and have faith that God will always protect us from any harm. I know our long distance relationship is only temporary and that the Lord will find ways for us to be together again, with our baby, to become a loving family that prays together.—Julie Ann B., 30, Jardin Real 4
