NYD's challenge: Youth serving the youth On April 23-30, 2019, SJTP youth parishioners Cristine Guaves, Sophia Dipon, Paul Tesorero, and Ann Castro, were among the 55 delegates from the Archdiocese of Caceres to the National Youth Day 2019 in Cebu City. The week-long celebration was comprised of various activities centered on the theme “I am the servant of the Lord. May it be done to me according to Your word”, which was also the theme of the World Youth Day in Panama, last January, which Pope Francis attended. Let us read the short reflection sharing of Cristine, Sophia, and Paul, our three parish delegates, and know and appreciate the call of the Church for our young people today. last april, we went to Cebu to attend the National Youth Day. We were 55 delegates from the Archdiocese of Caceres, making up almost 12,000 youth delegates from all over the country. It was an exciting experience because its my first time to ride a ship and it took almost 24 hours to go to Cebu. We stayed at the Asilo Dormitory, a dormitory for the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity, and a house for the disabled persons and orphans. We cherished every moment of our stay in Cebu and took the chance to get to know more of the other young people from other places. We also had a host parish, the Our Lady of Redemptorist Parish and had the Archdioceses of Cebu and Lipa joining us in that Parish. During the stay, we went to the International Eucharistic Convention Center to attend a seminar with a thousand of other youth joining us. Saying yes was one of the topic that we tackled in one of our Youth Matters sessions—it was sort of a cathechesis for the youth. "Saying yes to the Lord is the first step to holiness," and I think that's the best learning that I could bring in Naga. Connecting to the theme of NYD 2019: "I am the servant of the Lord, may it be done unto me according to your word," the youth nowadays are more focus on social media, but little do they know that social media could be one of the platform through which we can share the word of God. If we use the social media in good way, we can help the Church. The willingness of the
youth may help lots of people. We need to help the Church because she needs us. Youth are the burning fire of the Church and they are the next generation who will lead the next ones to the Lord. Serve the Lord and be the youth that serves fellow youth.—Cristine Banacia ****** national youth day 2019 was one of the best experiences in my entire life because I encountered different aspects of people. I heard different languages that connect us all. Different organizations but have one goal: serving the Lord and serving the Youth. Pilgrim Walk and the Youth Jam were my favorite parts of my whole stay in Cebu. In those overnight activities, I saw 12,000 young people worshipping God. I saw young individuals sacrifice their time to serve and to participate actively in the event. I heard different stories to which we could relate too. God has manifested His grace and mercy to us unceasingly. May we have a grateful posture in every situation we go through, even beyond our comforts. The Liveloud Youth Jam I experienced reaffirmed us that when our going gets tough, we are in the right track. Because the Lord will pursue us even more. And there is no other response to this but an utter submission of our whole self so that it is no longer our selves that lives, but Christ in us. Home, in His loving embrace. As one of the sharers said in the Liveloud Youth Jam, "Hanggang nandyan si Lord, hindi tayo nag-iisa humaharap sa buhay at sa mga problema natin."
We should not forget God in all things, We should seek God first in all things. That relates to the NYD Theme "I am the servant of the Lord, May it be done unto me according to your word."—Paul Tesorero ****** after the easter Sunday, I and my other youth members joined the National Youth Day 2019. At the International Eucharistic Convention Center, we had a seminar called Youth Matters and after that we had a Via Lucis or the way of light with the other youth at our festival site called the St. Dominic Savio. Via Lucis was one of the highlights that I experienced at the NYD 2019 in Cebu. Via Lucis is just like a Via Crucis, only that it strongly reminded us of the importance of Christ's Resurrection. It showed the fourteen stations where we can meditate, reflect, and pray in every station through narrations of the important events in Jesus' life. In every reflection, they showed us the different aspects of life like climate change, poverty, and how the youth, little by little distances away to God. In every presentation, I saw some fellow delegates in tears and reflecting on their everyday routine in relation to what they saw in the presentation. There were life lessons that were just short clips that everyone of us could reflect on. In the prayer, different languages were said, but were spiritually united, because at the NYD, we are called to be servants of the Lord and to be the youth who serves the youth.— Sophia Dipon 4 parish youth ministry, pwb
