T
here is an often-quoted phrase attributed to St. Francis which goes: “Preach the Gospel at all times. Use words if necessary.” It has become a punctuation mark for every claim that proclamation by word should come only after proclamation by deed. It is effective in pointing out the necessity of witnessing. The only problem is that, St. Francis did not say these words. There is no historical basis for attitude of some gurus or celebrity attributing it to the Poverello of Assisi. Inspired by the example of Procopius, many of the holy martyr’s former guards and Roman soldiers went beneath the executioner’s sword together with their tribunes Nikostrates and Antiochus. Twelve Christian women received martyr’s crowns, after they came to the gates of the Caesarea Praetorium. St. Procopius of Caesarea, the Holy Great Martyr, implies through his tragic story to withstand the indifference and cruelty towards you as the Lord did. The wonderful Fr. Mojic, our Parochial Vicar
F
r. Francis (Tordilla, of course) introduced Fr. Emmanuel G. Mojica, the new Parochial Vicar of SJTP, as "Fr. Awê." That's ok, but we think Fr. Mojic is cooler, so that's how we'll call him from now on.
The thing is, well, he's a bit elusive, and we only have a handful of information about him, but the staff of the pwb will do everything to cover this beat, so that no matter how short this article is, it will be of real substance. Then, we knew that Fr. Mojic hails from Magarao, Camarines Sur. This makes us wonder if he can do, you know, that hilot thingy, like Jordan or Leguid do. We'll still have to find that out.
Data say that Fr. Mojic was born in the same year as Fr. Francis, making them both very young priests at 41. He was ordained on June 9, 2004, and has just celebrated fifteenth year in the ministry. Before coming to SJTP, Fr. Mojic served as Parochial Vicar for four years. He served too in the Caribbeans, in the Grenadines, as a missionary priest. His immersive experiences during his mission brought him closer to the people and
allowed him to understand the dynamics of less fortunate communities. His immediate assignment before coming to SJTP was Pastorship of the Parish of St. Peter Baptist in Old Moriones, Ocampo Camarines Sur. Alongside his assignment as the Parochial Vicar of the Archdiocesan Shrine and Parish of Jude, he also has two major tasks for the Archdiocese, as Director of the Basic Ecclesial Communities (BEC) and the Stewardship Program of the Archdiocese of Caceres (SPARC). One thing for sure: he'll be very busy. 7 ellen peña, pwb

EcoRun, as step toward an empowered, engaged community
E
coRun, a fun run and tree-planting activity, was hosted by the Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Jude Thaddeus in cooperation with JCI Cariñosa on June 15. It was participated by various sectors and spearheaded by the Parish Youth Ministry. The activity focused on this year’s theme: “Filipino Youth in Mission: Beloved, Gifted, Empowered.” The objective of EcoRun evolved around creating awareness among the youth about the importance of planting local and typhoon-resilient trees and, at the same time, raising funds for the Parish Youth Ministry. It was designed to launch the campaign drive and program to educate and involve the youth in planting local trees such as narra, molave, yakal, and other fruit and flower bearing trees such as kamagong, pili, ilang-ilang, banaba.
EcoRun started at 5am at the Robinsons Place Grounds and ended with a tree-planting activity at the Monte Cielo Subdivision, St. Jude Orchard Subdivision, Villa Sorabella Subdivision, and Doña Conchita Subdivision, where a total of 500 participants planted a total of 500 native seedlings, and was later sealed with a signing of a Memorandum of Agreement with the subdivisions/ homeowners about taking their roles in caring and growing the planted seedlings up to 25 years or more. The activity did not only foster a multi-sectoral participation but
also gained support from various government—Local Government of Naga City , DENR, and the Department of Agriculture—and nongovernment institutions that shared in the advocacy of planting trees and promoting opportunities especially for the youth to be part of a concrete mission in creating a viable environment for everyone. The EcoRun not only provided the Youth Ministry an avenue to strengthen its participation in developing communities anchored in the ideals and teachings of the Catholic church but also formed an alliance towards its community to become better ministers of faith developing a marked difference where solidarity and hope reign in our hearts as we journey towards a purposeful life with the church. 7 pwb
