Ávarp forseta Q-félagsins // Q - Queer Association Iceland's President Address

Kæru stúdentar! Gleðilega hinsegin útgáfu Stúdentablaðsins, sem er mikilvæg bæði fyrir hinsegin og óhinsegin lesendur.

Undanfarið hefur verið mikið rými fyrir hatur og bakslög í réttindum hinsegin fólks orðin áberandi víða, en einnig í réttindum kvenna og annarra jaðarsettra hópa. Nú er samstaða mikilvægari sem aldrei fyrr, enda eru engin frjáls fyrr en við erum öll frjáls. Með umræðu, vitundarvakningu, fræðslu og samvinnu er hægt að dreifa allri þeirri ást sem við búum yfir og beita henni gegn hatrinu á okkur. Innan háskólasamfélagsins þurfum við að sjá til þess að ekki skapist vettvangur fyrir ofbeldi og fordóma með stöðugri vinnu að því að gera háskólasvæðið að öruggara rými fyrir hinsegin fólk og annað jaðarsett fólk. Q hefur stuðlað að auknum sýnileika hinsegin listafólks og skapandi skrifara meðal annars með listamarkaði og ljóðakvöldi. Síðastliðið árið hefur margt gerst í hagsmunabaráttu hinsegin stúdenta innan og utan HÍ. Stjórn Q benti Nemendaskrá í fyrra á að samkvæmt lögum um kynrænt sjálfræði eiga þau að endurútgefa prófskírteini trans stúdenta og er það núna mögulegt. Trans stúdentar verða að geta sýnt fram á námsgráðurnar sínar án þess að þurfa að sýna vinnuveitendum gamla nafnið sitt, sem skapar rými fyrir fordóma og öráreiti. Í sumar hófst endurgerð salerna í VR-II, Lögbergi og Læknagarði og verða þau öll ókyngreind auk þess sem aðgengilegum salernum fjölgar. Þetta á sér stað eftir harða pressu frá hinsegin stúdentum, Q-félaginu og samstöðu stúdenta fyrir bættu aðgengi fyrir hinsegin og fatlaða stúdenta. Nú er hægt að skrá fornöfn á innri vef Uglunnar í öllum háskólum landsins og á Canvas í þeim flestum. Að ávarpa fólk rétt er einn mikilvægasti þáttur í því að sýna virðingu í samskiptum, og að hafa fornöfn fólks með nafni þess stuðlar að meiri virðingu milli einstaklinga innan skólans. Um þessar mundir er Q-félagið að gefa út könnun sem ber heitið Líðan hinsegin stúdenta og er lögð fyrir alla stúdenta, bæði hinsegin og óhinsegin, í öllum háskólum landsins. Þegar sambærileg könnun var lögð fyrir grunn- og framhaldsskólanema þá kom í ljós mikil vanlíðan margra hinsegin ungmenna. Það er því mikilvægt fyrir okkur að fá betri mynd af líðan hinsegin stúdenta svo við getum betur unnið að því að bæta háskólasamfélagið. Í vetur getur Q loksins farið af fullum krafti í að halda viðburði eins og fyrir Covid, og verið sá vettvangur sem við viljum vera fyrir hinsegin stúdenta að hittast og kynnast. Ég vonast til að sjá ykkur sem flest á viðburðum Q og býð ykkur öll velkomin. Ég vona að þú, kæri lesandi, njótir blaðsins, lærir eitthvað nýtt og nýtir það til að breiða út hýran boðskap.

Dear fellow students! Welcome to the queer edition of the Student Paper, which is important for both queer and non-queer readers. Recently, there is a lot of room given to hatred and backlash in LGBTQIA+ rights, but also in the rights of women and other marginalized groups. Today, unity is more important as never before because no one is free until we are all free. Through dialogue, awareness-raising, education, and cooperation we can distribute all the love we have in us and apply it against the hatred towards us. Within the university community, we need to ensure that no setting is created for violence and prejudice, through continuous work to make the campus a safer space for LBTQIA+ people and other marginalized people. Q has contributed to increasing the visibility of queer artists and creative writers through art fairs and poetry evenings. Over the past year, a lot has happened in the student life, both inside and outside of the university. The board of Q pointed out to the Student Registration last year that according to the act on sexual autonomy they should reissue the diplomas of trans students, and it is possible now. Trans students must be able to demonstrate their degrees without having to show employers their old name, which creates space for prejudice and microaggression. In the summer, the restoration of toilets in buildings VR-II, Lögberg and Læknagarður began, and they will all be gender-neutral. The number of accessible toilets will increase as well. This is taking place after hard pressure from queer students, Q-Queer Student Association Iceland, and student solidarity for improved access for queer and disabled students. It is now possible to register pronouns on the internal web of Ugla in all universities in Iceland and on Canvas in most of them. Addressing people correctly is one of the most important aspects of showing respect in communication and having people's pronouns with their names contributes to more respect between individuals within the school. Currently, the Q- Queer Student Association Iceland is publishing a survey called The well-being of queer students which is sent to all students, both queer and non-queer, in all universities in Iceland. When a similar survey was conducted for primary and secondary school students, it revealed a great deal of discomfort for many queer young people. It is therefore important for us to get a better picture of the well-being of queer students so that we can better work on improving the university community. This winter, Q can finally go full force in holding events like before Covid and be the platform for queer students to meet and get to know each other. I hope to see many of you at Q’s events and welcome you all. I hope that you, dear reader, enjoy this issue of Student Paper, learn something new and use it to spread the queer message.
