In 2011, Haas’ Bearcats finished 9-5, the first winning record for the program since 2006, while the nine wins in a season are tied for the second most in the team’s 24-year history. February 23, 2011 Saint Vincent 17, Frostburg State 12

FROSTBURG, MD: The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team stormed back from a 9-6 halftime defecit to defeat host Frostburg State 17-12 in the Bearcats' 2011 season opener. Eight different Bearcats scored at least one goal, with five scoring at least two, led by five from Will DeLanoy. Zach Wilfong added three goals, and Mike Diggs, Jake Dick, and Ryan Kearney two apiece for Saint Vincent, which out-shot the Bobcats 51-29 for the game.

Diggs got the scoring started quickly, putting the Bearcats in front 1-0 with an unassisted tally just 90 seconds into play. Frostburg answered with three unanswered goals over the next three minutes to go in front 3-1, but the Bearcats would score the three goals of the quarter - one apiece from Kearney, Dick, and Wilfong - to take a 4-3 lead after the opening 15 minutes. Dick put the Bearcats in front 5-3 with a goal just over a minute into the second quarter, but the Bobcats would counter by scoring six unanswered goals in a nine-minute span to go in front 9-5. DeLanoy would end the first half scoring with a goal in the final minute, to send the game into the intermission with the Bearcats behind 9-6.

Diggs and Will Selmayer would score in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter to make the score 16-10, and it was a deficit too large to overcome for the Bobcats as the Bearcats cruised down the stretch for the season-opening win.

In addition to his five goals, DeLanoy added two assists for a seven-point day. Alex Walsh also added a pair of helpers, while Sean Kretovics added a goal and an assist in his collegiate debut. Kearney, Wilfong, Dick, and Franklin Howard all had one assist apiece. Goalie Adam Gunter made nine stops to earn the win, while Dick led SVC with 10 ground balls. 2011 S E A S O N

BEARCAT LACROSSE March 12, 2011 Saint Vincent 9, Christopher Newport 8

A goal by Ryan Kearney with less than a minute left lifted the Bearcats to a 9-8 victory over previously undefeated Christopher Newport University on the SVC turf. Jake Dick set up Kearney with the game winner, breaking a tie with 49 seconds left on the clock.

The Captains controlled the game throughout the first half, taking a 2-0 lead in the first quarter. SVC appeared to get on the board late in the first after a Zach Wilfong goal, but the score was waved off, as the referee called Wilfong for a crease violation. Will DeLanoy had a perfect scoring opportunity as well, but was stopped at point-blank range by CNU's Andy McGregor. Christopher Newport added another pair of goals in the second quarter, while shutting down the Bearcat offense, taking a 4-0 lead into the break.

The Bearcats finally got on the board in the third, with Kearney scoring a man-up goal just over a minute into play. From there, SVC took over, added four more unanswered goals - one by DeLanoy, two by Wilfong, and another from Kearney - to take a 5-4 lead after three quarters.

With just over two minutes left to play, Kearney tied the game at 7 off an assist from DeLanoy, and less than 10 seconds later, after Sean Kretovics won the faceoff, Wilfont scored off an Alex Walsh assist to give the Bearcats an 8-7 lead. The Captains refused to surrender, scoring just 20 seconds later on a man-up goal to tie the game, but Kearney ended things with his shot in the final minute.

Adam Gunter played well in the net, tallying 9 saves, while Kretovics was strong on faceoffs, winning 10 of 13 on the day against a CNU faceoff squad that was gaining the advantage 80% of the time so far this year. Kyle Pasta led CNU with three goals, while McGregor posted 12 saves in the net.

With the win, Saint Vincent improves to 4-1 on the season, while CNU drops to 3-1. CNU SAINT VINCENT

The Bearcats lost to a tough Adrian College team on the road in Michigan by a score of 19-10.

SVC's Ryan Kearney scored the game's first goal, but the Bulldogs closed the opening quarter with three straight goals, then added another pair of unanswered tallies to start the second quarter. By halftime, the lead had grown to 10-2.

After the hosts added another goal at the outset of the third quarter, SVC came back, scoring four straight goals -- one each from Zach Wilfong, Jake Dick, Mike Diggs and Alex Walsh. However, Adrian then settled back into their game plan, pulling away for the victory.

2011 S E A S O N

However, the Captains came back with three straight goals to start off the fourth quarter, taking a 7-5 lead before Dick scored with 8 minutes left to cut the deficit in half.

Kearney led the Bearcats with four goals on the day, including three in the final seven minutes of the game. WIlfong added three. The team's leading scorer coming into the game, Will DeLanoy, was held to just two assists by a tough Bulldog defense, which caused 12 SVC turnovers on the day.

BEARCAT LACROSSE March 22, 2011 Saint Vincent 15, Wooster 13

The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team withstood a furious late rally from the College of Wooster to defeat the Scots 15-13 on the SVC Turf.

Leading 13-7 heading into the fourth quarter, Saint Vincent saw the Scots pull to within one, 14-13, in the closing minute, before Bearcat goalie Adam Gunter preserved the one-goal lead with a point-blank save with nine seconds left, setting up a last-second buzzer beating insurance goal from Peter Hronis. Ryan Kearney led the Bearcat offense, with three goals and two assists. Will DeLanoy posted a four-point day, with two goals and two assists, while Hronis finished with two goals and one helper.

Wooster got the day's scoring started quickly, scoring 59 seconds into play, but the Bearcats then answered in a big way, scoring three times in a three-minute span, with goals from Clark Williams, Jesse Hicks, and Kearney, to go in front 3-1. The Bearcats' first quarter lead would eventually stretch to 6-2, with Mary Teynor, DeLanoy, and Zach Wilfong scoring, before the Scots would score the final three goals of a wild opening stanza to shrink the SVC advantage to 6-5.

2011 S E A S O N

The game turned into a defensive battle in the second quarter, with neither team finding the net for nearly 13 minutes, until Wooster's Matt Pullara tied the game with an unassisted mark with 2:10 left. The Scots would then take the ensuing face off the length of the field and take the lead just 20 seconds later, on a Matt Ranck goal. The lead was short-lived, however, as the Bearcats would take the momentum into the intermission after Mike Diggs scored with just nine seconds left to tie the game at seven. The third quarter belonged to Saint Vincent, as the Bearcats out-scored the Scots 6-0, and out-shot the visitors 16-7. Kearney posted two goals and an assist in the quarter, while Kevin Adams, Hronis, DeLanoy, and Anthony Altieri added one goal apiece, to give the Bearcats a seemingly safe 13-7 lead heading into the final stanza.

Wooster would score twice in the opening two minutes of the fourth, before a goal from Jake Dick would give the Bearcats a five-goal lead, 14-9, with 7:45 left in regulation. It served as a wake up call for Wooster, as the Scots would then control play over the next seven-plus minutes, scoring four unanswered goals to pull to within one with just over three minutes remaining. After the ensuing face off, the Bearcats won possession, and played keepaway for nearly two minutes. An errant SVC shot would give the ball back to Wooster with 52 seconds left, but the Scots gave the ball right back on a turnover at the 40-second mark. The Bearcats worked the ball deep into Wooster territory, but the Scots would force an SVC turnover with 20 sec-

onds left, sending an odd-man rush down the field. Wooster's Nick Spittle looked primed to score the game-tying goal with 13 seconds left, before Gunter came up with the save of the game at point blank range. He then sent a long outlet pass to midfield, and the ball eventually found the stick of Hronis, who scored the Bearcats' 15th and final goal of the game with two seconds left in regulation.

A total of 14 different Bearcats recorded at least one point on the afternoon, while Gunter played all 60 minutes in goal and made 10 saves to earn the win. The Bearcats owned a 45-41 advantage in shots, and grabbed 27 ground balls - led by five from Dick - to the Scots' 25. The Saint Vincent penalty kill did an effective job, as the Bearcats were penalized 11 times for eight minutes, but allowed just two man-down goals.

The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team earned a key road victory over Kenyon College by a final score of 16-9.

SVC scored less than one minute into the game, when Ryan Kearney set up Zach Wilfong, but it would then be nearly ten minutes before either team would again find the net. It was again SVC that recorded a goal, this time by Mike Diggs. Wilfong's second goal of the quarter, with just over a minute remaining in the first, put the Bearcats up 3-0.

The College’s 200+ acre suburban campus is located at the foothills of the scenic Laurel Highlands, 35 miles east of the city of Pittsburgh. Saint Vincent was the first Benedictine foundation in the United States. The Archabbey and college were founded in 1846 by Boniface Wimmer, a monk from the Benedictine Abbey of Metten in Bavaria. Saint Vincent College is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

The Saint Vincent athletic tradition is a long and rich one, from the school’s first baseball game in 1867, to the establishment of women’s varsity athletics in 1984, to the rebirth of Bearcat football in 2007. Nearly every program has achieved success and recognition on the national level, while over 100 Saint Vincent student-athletes have been named All-America, both athletically and academically.

Saint Vincent athletes have the privelege of using some of the finest facilities in small-college athletics. The Bearcat lacrosse and football teams call Chuck Noll Field home. Named after the legendary National Football League Hall of Fame coach, Chuck Noll Field is a natural grass surface with state-of-the-art drainage and irrigation. The stadium has a seating capacity of 1,100, and boasts a spacious press box, as well as restroom and concession facilities. The field is used in the summer as the main practice facility for the six-time Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers, who have called Saint Vincent their summer training camp home since 1967.

The SVC Turf

Bearcat lacrosse also utilizes the Saint Vincent Turf field. Located at the base of campus, the facility was completed in the spring of 2009, and boasts a top-notch Field Turf surface, which allows for safe play in even the wettest of weather. The facility the home of soccer and field hockey in the fall, lacrosse in the spring, and intramural sports year round.

The Saint Vincent Fitness Center

Located in the back section of the Carey Center is the Frank and Elizabeth Resnick Pool. In addition to being put to use by the Bearcat swimming teams, the pool is utilized by a number of athletic teams for conditioning workouts, while the entire Saint Vincent community is welcome to use the pool for recreational swimming.

The Bearcat lacrosse locker room

The Robert S. Carey Center, built in 2003, is the hub of Saint Vincent athletics. The gymnasium, with a seating capacity of 1,300, features regulation basketball and volleyball courts, and is also utilized for practice by the softball, baseball, and lacrosse teams. In addition to the full-sized basketball/volleyball court, there are five additional practice courts, which are used recreationally by students, and also for intramural competition. The Carey Center also boasts 15 full-sized locker rooms for year round use by varsity athletes, as well as a fitnes center, equipped with the latest free weights, weight machines, and cardio equipment. Located just outside of the fitness center is the Bearcat Athletic Training Center, which is fully staffed and has ample room for medical treatment, rehabilitation, and therapy.

Upon entering campus, the Lady Bearcat softball field, built in 2004, located adjacent to the Saint Vincent Turf. Located in the center of campus is Bearcat Ballfield, home of the SVC baseball team, while the outdoor tennis courts, completely resurfaced in 2007 and used by the Lady Bearcat tennis team, are located on the upper part of campus, offering a picturesque setting with a view of the entire Saint Vincent campus.
