Para reforzar este carácter local y ancestral y evocar aquel primitivo paso de los animales, se ha optado por utilizar losas de Binissalem, manufacturadas por artesanos de la isla, que las elaboran a la manera típica. Asimismo, las piezas artísticas que aportan carisma al espacio han sido también elaboradas por el artista mallorquín Jaume Roig, cerrando así un círculo perfecto.

Jimi Hendrix, Ray Charles and Tom Jones have played in her nightclubs, quintessential of the Palma bohemia. Errol Flyn and Gertrude Stein have uncorked champagne on her legendary La Gomila Plaza. We are talking about the El Terreno quarter, residential area to the illustrious and distinguished at the beginning of the 20th Century, that went onto become the epicentre of the cultural scene during the 60s, 70s and 80s. Then in the 90s, decline hit this magical spot tucked between the Bellver Park and the sea.

A few years ago, the Fluxà family, owners of the Camper shoe brand, bought a series of plots close to the plaza with the aim of returning to El Terreno the status it deserves, combining heritage and creativity. Today, the Dutch architecture studio MVRDV and the Mallorcan studio GRAS are both in charge of returning life and colour to an area where it never should have been lost.
Hace unos años, la Familia Fluxà, propietaria de la marca de zapatos Camper, compró una serie de parcelas vecinas a la plaza con objeto de devolver a El Terreno la entidad que se merece, combinando herencia y creatividad. Hoy, el estudio de arquitectura holandés MVRDV y el mallorquín GRAS son los encargados de devolver al espacio la vida y el color que nunca debió haber perdido.
Vor einigen Jahren hat die Familie Fluxà, Eigentümerin der Schuhmarke Camper, eine Reihe von Grundstücken in der Nähe des Platzes gekauft, um El Terreno durch die Kombination aus Kulturerbe und Kreativität zu der Einrichtung zurück zu verhelfen, die es verdient. Heute sind das niederländische Architekturbüro MVRDV und das mallorquinische Büro GRAS damit betraut, dem Raum wieder Leben und Farbe zu geben, die er nie hätte verlieren dürfen.

Y lo del color es literal: los cuatro edificios a reformar -entre ellos, Centro Gomila, diseño del arquitecto Pere Nicolau-, así como los tres a construir, están cada uno ejecutado en un vibrante tono y un material diferente. En total, suman 60 viviendas de alquiler (algunas, en forma de chalets adosados) destinadas a los habitantes locales que trabajan en los alrededores. Poseerán, además, espacio comercial para tiendas, restaurantes y bares, así como servicios comunes a todos los vecinos del nuevo complejo, como las piscinas.
All of these restaurations will be carried out following sustainability standards (using locally sourced materials such as compressed soil) and the Passivhaus standard, meaning that they will enjoy high thermal efficiency thanks to solutions such as the installation of solar panels on the rooftops. The estimated date of project completion, which will bring a breath of fresh air to Palma de Mallorca, is set for autumn 2023.
Todas estas restauraciones se llevarán a cabo siguiendo criterios de sostenibilidad (usando materiales locales, como tierra prensada) y el estándar Passivhaus, de manera que contarán con una alta eficiencia térmica gracias a soluciones como la instalación de paneles solares en los tejados. La fecha estimada de finalización de este proyecto, que supondrá un soplo de aire fresco para Palma de Mallorca, está fijada en otoño de 2023.

Insgesamt handelt es sich um 60 Mietwohnungen (zum Teil in Form von Doppelhaushälften) für Anwohner, die in der Umgebung arbeiten. Zudem wird es Gewerbeflächen für Geschäfte, Restaurants und Bars geben, sowie gemeinsame Dienstleistungen für alle Bewohner des neuen Komplexes, wie Schwimmbäder.

And the colour is literal: the four buildings include the Centro Gomila to be renovated, designed by the architect Pere Nicolau, as well as three more to be built, each in a vibrant tone and using different materials. There will also be commercial space for shops, restaurants and bars, as well as communal services available to the neighbours living in the complex, such as the swimming pools.

“Sea Club is not a typical yacht club, because it has a much more sophisticated cuisine, much more natural, and at the same time, simple”, explains the professional. Rice and fish dishes accompanied by the best white wine, are the focus for an inviting ritual with a relaxed, informal air. “For me, working at Cap Rocat primarily means family”, comments the chef.
„Der Sea Club ist kein gewöhnlicher maritimer Club, denn hier gibt es eine viel raffiniertere Küche, die viel natürlicher und gleichzeitig einfach ist“, erklärt der Profikoch. The very nature of the restaurant also flows with time: when the weather suits, it leaves the imposing halls of the ancient Fort of Cap Rocat (catalogued as a National Monument) and moves out onto the beautiful patio. No effort is too great when it comes to providing a unique experience for the diners: “We are very much focused on the client”, concludes the chef.

Cris Odriozola y Silvia Delgado fundaron Live Healthy en el 2018 con la intención de ayudar a cambiar los hábitos de las personas mallorquinas, ofreciéndoles herramientas prácticas para poder llevar un estilo de vida saludable, enseñándoles como funcionaba el cuerpo, qué necesidades tenía y cómo podían conseguirlo. Se plantearon crear un espacio 100% saludable y se motivaron al ver que podían formar algo único, fue entonces cuando se fundó LA MESA, un espacio en el centro de Palma creado para ayudar a la sociedad a llevar un estilo de vida más saludable, pretendiendo acercar una comida real y nutritiva a un precio asequible y compartiendo constantemente píldoras informativas sobre nutrición y buenos hábitos.
Cris Odriozola und Silvia Delgado haben Live Healthy im Jahr 2018 mit der Absicht gegründet, die Gewohnheiten der Mallorquiner zu ändern, indem sie ihnen praktische Werkzeuge für einen gesunden Lebensstil zur Verfügung stellten und sie darüber aufklärten, wie der Körper funktioniert, was er braucht und wie sie dies erreichen können. Sie wollten einen Ort schaffen, der zu 100 % gesund ist, und als sie erkannten, dass sie etwas Einzigartiges aufbauen konnten, sahen sie sich in ihrem Vorhaben beflügelt. So entstand LA MESA, ein Ort im Zentrum von Palma, der geschaffen wurde, um der Gesellschaft zu helfen, einen gesünderen Lebensstil zu führen, mit dem Ziel, echtes und nahrhaftes Essen zu einem erschwinglichen Preis anzubieten und konstant informative Pillen über Ernährung und gute Gewohnheiten zu teilen.

Cris Odriozola and Silvia Delgado founded Live Healthy in 2018 with the aim of helping change Majorcan’s habits, offering them practical tools to be able to lead a healthy lifestyle, teaching them about how their body works, its needs, and how to achieve said lifestyle. The idea was to create a 100% healthy space, and they were encouraged by the idea of forming something unique, so they founded LA MESA (The Table), a space in the centre of Palma created to help society to lead a healthier lifestyle, with the aim of providing real and nutritional food at a reasonable price, and sharing information on nutrition and positive habits.
