With husband Rory and son Sonny by her side, and little Leo in her heart, there’s nothing this Adelaide mum can’t conquer. My loved ones describe me as: I like to think I’m quite funny, so I would hope they might say that! Along with social, caring, strong and family-oriented.

A typical week in my life includes… I absolutely love to cook, so plenty of cooking for family and friends. Combined with lots of time with Sonny, Rory and the doggies down at our local beach in Brighton. Also, catching up on emails because I am forever falling behind with them!

I love living in Adelaide because… It is such a beautifully diverse city! There is so much beauty right at our doorstep. You can spend the morning at the beach and then jump in the car for half an hour and be wine tasting

in McLaren Vale at some of the most incredible wineries in the world. There is so much to see and do here, you just need to get out and see what this beautiful state of ours has to offer!

Something in my home that makes me smile every day is… All of the mementos we have of our beautiful little baby, Leo.

For me, 2020 is the year of… Creating beautiful memories with our family and friends, and getting stuck into our Lion Warrior foundation.

I feel that my purpose in life is…

I hope that Sonny grows up to be: A respectful and accepting man just like his daddy.

In 2019, there seemed to be a retreat from all things minimalist as the runways from all over the world were awash with various bright colours and graphic prints. Some fashion critics even described the choices as ‘obvious’ and ‘repetitive’. But, for autumn winter 2020, change is a-coming.

As we become more environmentally conscious as a society, our fashion choices subsequently become more considered. This season, it’s all about enhanced neutrals. Even though beige well-and-truly reigned supreme last year, AW20 will see a slight shift towards icy-whites and cool-toned greys. Many shoppers are being inspired by the simplicity of this trend as it perfectly aligns with their conscious ways. This low-key look is relaxed, laidback and yet somehow, still perfectly puttogether. It goes to show, bright is nice, but bold isn’t always better.

White has long been a strong fashion choice for women. It’s crisp, fresh and classy – especially when worn head-to-toe. In this new season colour palette, touches of cream, grey and fawn complement an all-white ensemble. From a cosy weekend look comprising of tailored sweatpants and an embellished sweater, to an office appropriate blazer and skirt combo, this trend is anything but ordinary.

A life on social media isn’t always as glamorous as it seems. But, Sarah-Jane Stevens is all about balance and authenticity – with a fabulous selfie on the side. How would you describe your fashion style? It varies! Sometimes I look like Dobby from Harry Potter and other times, I try to dress like Kendall Jenner – there’s no in-between. I generally aim for comfort and usually love a cute dress or a skirt and crop combo. Other times, it’s jeans and a vintage t-shirt or track pants/shorts and a singlet.

Trend from the past you’d love to see return: I am loving the big claw hair-clip trend, like Rachel from Friends would have worn. Plus, I’m a big fan of the 70s and 90s styles that are coming back into fashion. I’d be just as happy in a flare pant and oversized top as I would be in a tight mini-dress and a mule.

What does confidence mean to you? Confidence means believing in yourself when no-one else does. Every girl deserves to whole-heartedly believe that they are enough, and they are worthy of happiness. You really can do anything you set your mind to.

I wish that social media… Would be more authentic and real. It’s time to show the bad and ugly, too – it makes us feel more human.

From research and location scouting, to model selection and styling, there’s so much that goes into a fashion editorial shoot. In-centre stylist, Cimon Vozzo, gives us a sneak peek into her life, leading up to our beautiful autumn winter fashion editorial. 4 DAYS BEFORE I’ll head into the centre to pull all the fashion looks and start styling the outfits. This generally takes an entire day and involves a lot of going back and forth! I love this part of the process – it’s when I really get to be my most creative. DAY BEFORE Steam and hang all fashion pieces, tape shoes, prep jewellery and pack the car in preparation for shoot day. 6 WEEKS UNTIL SHOOT I research the latest trends and create a mood board of my vision. Then, I’ll meet with the client to present my ideas and discuss creative direction. 5 WEEKS UNTIL SHOOT I start looking at models who suit the creative direction of the shoot, as well as locations to shoot at. 4 WEEKS UNTIL SHOOT I’ll begin reaching out to fashion retailers and PR agencies for store loans and samples. I’ll also book the photographer and reach out to the hair stylist and makeup artist. 1 WEEK UNTIL SHOOT A week out from the shoot, I’ll create a runsheet of the day and share it with all parties involved. This helps us stay on schedule on the day.

9:30am: 11am:

Talent and crew arrive, hair and makeup begins. All crew drives to the location and the team sets up for the day. Our crew usually includes the photographer, hair stylist, makeup artist, model, stylist, client and any assistants. For myself, I’ll start to arrange the clothing rail, re-steam any fashion items and the model gets any touch-ups.

11:30am: 2pm:

Begin shooting. We generally take anywhere from 10-15 looks which takes about 8-9 hours to shoot! We pause for a very quick lunch! In the lunch break, myself and the photographer will go over the images taken so far.

Clip Joint hairdressing is marking its 50th year of business. The iconic hairdressing institution is proud to be family owned and operated and employs over 50 South Australians across its three hairdressing salons and training academy, Clip Joint Education. Although today you might know Clip Joint for their infamous Burnside Blowdry and editorial work in the local fashion scene, the hairdressing group began as a high-end barbery back in 1970. Started by two gents in their 20s who had big dreams of bringing international hair looks to the streets of Adelaide. They were inspired by European styling and delivering a unique in-salon experience. Both elements of which, would continue to influence the brand for years to come and are evident throughout their salons – from the Sassoon methodology used by stylists, through to the biscotti served on their in-salon refreshment menu.

The first Clip Joint salon opened at Burnside Village in 1983 and has continued to grow and evolve over the years. It is now the flagship salon of the group which spans over two levels and boasts over 25 talented stylists, colourists and makeup artists. How would you describe the Australian fashion landscape?

The landscape is definitely changing, customers are more conscious of their buying ability and their contribution to the overall industry. We’ve noticed a resurgence in the demand in quality tailoring and manufacturing, it’s exciting to see the desire for beautifully crafted clothing.

Beauty Cupboard Ask any beauty aficionado and they’ll tell you that the inside of their beauty cupboard is a sacred place. Luckily for us, Ali Buss has dropped the veil and let us take a peek inside. These are all the things she loves. Tell us about your daily skincare and makeup routine? I keep my skincare routine fairly simple as I’m usually time poor with my two boys. I always start my mornings with a good exfoliating product like the Tatcha Deep Cleanse – it’s one of my alltime favourites! Then I’ll follow with either the Go-To Skincare Face Hero Oil, or the Summer Fridays CC Serum (I have both on rotation) and finally, I’ll moisturise with the Go-To Very Useful Facecream for a nice hydrating base prior to starting my makeup. My makeup routine is either two minutes or 20, depending on whether I’m getting ready for a day with my boys, or a day at work! I’ll rub in a quick layer of the Endota New Age Daily Defence Cream with SPF 50+ followed by an illuminating primer like the Mecca Cosmetica’s Lit From Within to give my face a natural glow prior to applying foundation. My daily foundation is the M.A.C Cosmetics Face & Body foundation because it’s extremely lightweight and feels so natural on the skin. Then I will literally just add mascara and a lip balm like the L’Occitane Shea Butter Lip Balm and I’m done!

Latest product you’ve fallen in love with? One of my biggest product crushes at the moment is definitely the Go-To Skincare Face Hero Oil. It’s the most perfectly nourishing and hydrating oil that preps the skin beautifully for makeup. I don’t do a face without it! And my other really recent product obsession is

makeup application. For makeup, a gorgeous cream blush will transform any dry or dull looking skin instantly! The Clinique Chubby Stick is an absolute fave of mine to achieve this!

Apple & Forest Fruit Coconut Crumble SERVES 6 // PREP TIME 20 MINS // COOKING TIME 40 MINS

INGREDIENTS

4 green apples, peeled and chopped

1 Preheat oven to 180ºC. 2 For the crumble, combine sugar, coconut, butter and flour in a large bowl. Rub mixture together with your fingers until it resembles coarse breadcrumbs. 3 In a medium saucepan, combine apples, forest fruits, vanilla bean, caster sugar and cinnamon stick. Stir over medium-heat for 10-15 minutes or until apples start to soften. 4 Spoon mixture into an ovenproof dish and top with crumble mixture. Bake for 25 minutes or until golden on top. Serve with dollop cream, orange zest, a fresh grating of nutmeg and a hot cup of tea.

INGREDIENTS 2 tbsp olive oil 1.5kg beef brisket, trimmed and cut into 4 pieces 1 brown onion, chopped 4 cloves garlic, chopped 1 litre beef stock 1 x 400g can diced tomatoes 3 bay leaves 1 tbsp tomato paste 300g assorted mushrooms Cauliflower mash 1 large head cauliflower, cut into florets 52

3 tbsp unsalted butter 3 tbsp sour cream 6 cloves garlic, chopped and divided in two ¹⁄³ cup Parmesan cheese

METHOD 1 Heat two tablespoons oil in large fry-pan over high heat. Sprinkle the beef with salt and pepper and add to the pan, cooking for 3-4 minutes each side, until beef is sealed and brown. 2 In a slow-cooker on medium heat, add beef, along with onion, garlic,

stock, tomatoes, bay leaves and tomato paste. Cook for four hours, adding the mushrooms halfway through. 3 To make cauliflower mash, steam the cauliflower for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, in a large pot over medium-high heat, heat the butter and sauté half of the garlic until fragrant. 4 In a food processor, add the steamed cauliflower and remaining garlic. Blitz until smooth. 5 Transfer blended cauliflower to the pot with butter and garlic. Stir in Parmesan cheese and sour cream. Season with salt and pepper. 6 Serve brisket on top of cauliflower mash with mushrooms.

1kg mussels, cleaned

1 Preheat oven to 220ºC. 2 Add tomatoes, garlic and chilli to a large roasting tray and drizzle with olive oil. Cover with aluminium foil and cook for 15 minutes or until tomatoes have started to soften. 3 Add mussels to the roasting tray along with the white wine and olives. Cover with foil again and cook for a further 20 minutes until the mussels have opened. 4 Season with salt and pepper. Serve with fresh basil, garlic and crusty sourdough bread.

Pumpkin & Sweet Potato Pasta with Roquefort SERVES 2 // PREP TIME 15 MINS // COOKING TIME 10 MINS

INGREDIENTS 350g butternut pumpkin, peeled and spiralised 350g sweet potato, peeled and spiralised 350g white sweet potato, peeled and spiralised 100g unsalted butter 120g Roquefort cheese ½ cup fresh parsley, finely chopped ½ cup walnuts, roughly chopped Optional: ¼ cup finely shaved Parmesan

METHOD 1 Preheat the oven to 200ºC. 2 Place the spiralised pumpkin and sweet potato on a large non-stick baking tray. Roast for 5-6 minutes or until softened. 3 Meanwhile, melt the butter in a small frying pan over medium-high heat. Remove from heat once the butter is foamy and nutty brown in colour. 4 When ready to serve, divide the spiralised mixture and Roquefort between bowls. Drizzle over burnt butter mixture and top with walnuts, fresh parsley and optional Parmesan.

Beetroot & Carrot Winter Salad

INGREDIENTS

METHOD

3 carrots, grated

SERVES 4 // PREP TIME 20 MINS

½ cup toasted pine nuts

1 Combine carrots, cabbage, butterbeans and apricots in a large bowl and toss to combine. Add grated beetroot and toss lightly. 2 In a separate small bowl, mix together the orange juice, olive oil, cayenne pepper and salt. Drizzle over the salad and toss. 3 Finish by topping the salad with toasted pine nuts and chopped coriander.

½ red cabbage, sliced thinly 3 cooked beetroots, grated 1 tin butterbeans, drained ¼ cup dried apricots, chopped 1 orange, juiced ½ tsp cayenne pepper ½ tsp pink Himalayan salt 2 handfuls fresh coriander, chopped

My favourite dish to prepare for the autumn winter months is Ma’s drunken leg of lamb – a fresh leg of lamb boned out and infused with fruit chutney, diced seasoned tomatoes and plenty of vegetables on top. An easy, hearty, delicious roast meal.

Number one pick from your range that all customers need to try: This is a hard one – there’s so many to choose! My personal favourite is our 70-day dry-aged rib-eye steak with our house-made fresh lemon, thyme and garlic butter melted over the top.

3 tbsp hoisin sauce 1 tsp Asian chilli garlic sauce 1 clove garlic, chopped ¹⁄³ cup soy sauce 1 tbsp honey ¼ tsp fresh ginger, minced Parmesan potatoes 700g white potatoes, cut into chunks 1 tbsp olive oil

METHOD 1 Preheat the oven to 200ºC. Prepare hoisin glaze by adding all ingredients to a small bowl and mixing together. 2 Prepare the chicken by rinsing under water and then patting dry with paper towel. Season with salt and pepper. Add one half of an orange into the chicken cavity. Place the chicken, breast side up, onto a large baking pan. 3 Lay bacon lengthwise over the chicken. Tuck the orange slices underneath the bacon and secure where needed with tooth-picks. Brush with hoisin glaze all over. Roast for 20 minutes, remove and glaze with more hoisin mixture. 4 Reduce oven to 180ºC, cover the chicken with aluminium foil and roast for another 50 minutes. 5 Meanwhile, in a separate large baking tray lined with baking paper, add olive oil and thin layer of Parmesan cheese. Place potatoes face down on the Parmesan and roast for 20-30 minutes until crispy. 6 Remove chicken one last time and add more glaze. Roast for a further 10 minutes. 7 Remove and rest for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with spring onions and a squeeze of fresh orange.
