orn in Singapore, I moved to Brisbane at eight years old and discovered a love for fashion at an early age. When I was 10, I practically forced my family to let me start sewing. I had a natural talent for design and couture, which evolved into the curved lines and folds you see on my designs today which is focused on elements that convey a mature perspective on elegance such as tailoring, architecture, fabrication, and above all, silhouette. Inspired by designers like Azzedine Alaïa, in 2018 while I was studying I established my namesake label, JOTEO (the combination of my first name and my last name; Joash and Teo hence, Joteo). with a Bachelor of Design and at the same time I was learning about fabrics from working at Fabric Collection, all the while being a dressmaker for hire during my university days. In retrospect, it was quite a heavy balance of academic and self-pursued learning. There were many instances where I would finish my assignments only to have my own orders to occupy me for the rest of the night, and maybe the morning ahead. But I’m grateful for it because it’s only led me to be a more well-rounded designer. My body of work from QUT awarded me the ‘QLD Fashion Design Graduate of the Year 2020’ from the Design Institute of Australia and I have also received further acclaim with exhibitions in FEBRUARY 2022
Artisan Australia’s boutique gallery, inclusion in Bura Singapore’s ‘SFW Best Dressed List’, and a shortlisting for IMG’s Next Generation Prize. It’s an exciting time in Brisbane fashion, there’s an electricity as new generations of designers begin to establish themselves and they’re only bolstered by the many artist collectives that help bring local creatives together. I hope everyone will join us at BrisAsia Fashion Festival, it’s going to be an exciting event celebrating Eastern craftsmanship. Particularly the younger generation, who are inspired to proudly claim ownership of their rich cultural heritage, especially at a time in the world where discrimination against Asians is on the rise. walk at least a few times a week with our two Cavalier King Charles Spaniel doggies. It’s a tranquil @THECALILEHOTEL escape from daily life and a beautiful place to get in touch with nature and breathe.
Death & Taxes. This is the coolest whisky bar in Brisbane that feels like it’s straight out of downtown LA. My drink is an ‘old fashioned’ and they make the best one I have ever tasted.
The Calile Hotel. It reminds me of Palm Springs with the poolside scenery vibes and tropical vernacular architecture.
NAÏM restaurant. Incredible Middle Eastern food and beautiful atmosphere set in an old Queenslander in the heart of Paddington. This restaurant is such a gem. Everything on the menu is amazing but the Muhammara share plate with pomegranate molasses and candied pepitas is simply to die for.
Palace Cinemas. I am a total movie nut and I want my cinema to be foreign with a side of fine wine and olive oil popcorn. Palace is clean, with big comfy seats and smaller rooms, smells beautiful, shows the greatest films from around the world.
Rogue Bistro. This restaurant is reserved for special occasions, but the @DEATHANDTAXESBRISBANE

Proof BBQ & Booze. It’s the epitome of a village bar in Windsor but better because it’s home to Brisbane’s best low ‘n slow BBQ! There’s a great selection of American whiskeys (but also Rosé!), and the vibe is chill.
Marché du Macaron. I really feel for anyone who hasn’t been to this place, either in Grange or Ashgrove. It’s like walking into a rainbow that you can eat! They make in-house gluten-free macrons of every colour, plus have great coffee, breakfasts, and brunches. It’s one of the happiest places I’ve ever been to.
Cafe KuTea. On Kedron Brook Road in Wilston, this is an authentic local coffee shop with a heart as big as Phar Lap. When Covid hit in March 2020, this place became a @CAFEKUTEA balm for the community and today it’s a vibrant, colourful space where locals and visitors come together.

CONNECTING THE DOTS This transcendent Aboriginal artist paints for the love of Country.
W
ith each touch between brush and canvas, Daisy Hill of Daisy in Dots expresses her gratitude for the Country she is walking, living, and breathing. The Aboriginal artist and proud descendant of the Muruwari people currently lives on Yugambeh Country (Gold Coast) and is striving to keep the traditions of her people alive in contemporary strokes. Her pieces aren’t only beautiful but serve her ancestors and spirit. Daisy practises intuitive
painting – a deeply spiritual and mediative experience that helps her connect to her identity while healing from life experiences. “My artworks represent the Motherland,” she says. “The trees, water, sand, sun, earth, and animals. I paint to convey the beauty I see in all things.” In pursuit of connection, Daisy sometimes finds isolation. “I get in my head a bit too much as there’s no other energies or outside influences stimulating me [in the studio],” she says. “I’ve
had to learn to recognise when it’s time to take a break and seek the company of other people.” When it works, though, it works. Within each dot that Daisy paints, she leaves breadcrumbs that trace back to the roots of her family tree while leading the way to those who are yet to come. As Daisy says, “Art has this beautiful ability to create a sense of understanding, connection, and resonation, not only with the painting but with ourselves.” DAISYINDOTS.COM.AU
I acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land and pay our respects to Elders – past and present. Sovereignty of this land is not and has never been ceded and remains stolen. Always was, always will be, Aboriginal land. 14

L
oyal, lovable, and lavish. These are just a few words to describe the incandescent and enigmatic Ellie Gonsalves. Guiding her way through a rocky industry full of rejection growing up, this wildlife warrior (more on that later) took her future into her own hands, with the help of her fiancé, and has shown us that no matter what life throws at you, love and hard work always wins.
said. When the seminar was over, he said if anyone wanted to speak with him about their plans when they left school or needed any advice to come down and talk to him. So, what did I do? I went and spoke to him. I realised as I was walking up to him, I had no idea what I wanted to do when I left school, so I panicked and said I wanted to own my own fashion business. I got an email from him a week or so later with a lot of thoughtful and detailed information, but I never responded because I started dating someone. Two years later I saw him again while we were out with friends. A few months went by, and I fell completely in love. Our first date was on Valentine’s Day. The rest they say is history.
Hi Ellie, thanks for chatting to us for our Love Issue! Where are you and what are you doing right now? Hi! I’m currently sitting in the car driving up to Noosa for a long weekend away. How would you describe yourself in one sentence for those that don’t know you? A loyal and hard-working person. When and where did your career start? I dipped my toe into the modelling and acting world at about 14 years old, participating in a lot of photographic work, performances, and acting classes during school. It wasn’t until I left high school that I realised I could turn it into a career and take it seriously. At that point, I had grown out of my child modelling agency and was turned down by every other agency I went to for either being too much or too little of something. This was all before social media was a thing, so I decided to carve out a career that wasn’t exactly done the conventional way. I took advantage of Facebook pages to build an audience that enjoyed following my career and what I did day to day from what I ate, how I trained to keep in shape, my goals, and the progress I was making on that journey. The other platforms we use more today such as Instagram and Twitter were only just starting. I built this into a very solid following over time and leveraged it as another reason for brands to book me because I had something a lot of other models didn’t at the time – my own platform and influence. With the help from my partner Ross, over time I learnt as much as I possibly could from him as I wasn’t particularly knowledgeable on how to run myself as a business at 18 years old. I learnt how to book a lot of my dream jobs by being proactive and personally reaching out. I also learnt how to turn ‘Ellie’ into not only a brand but an enterprise. I didn’t wait for someone to do it for me – I made
it happen for myself putting in the work to get where I wanted to be.
I was turned down by every other agency I went to for either being TOO MUCH or too little of something.”
What does love mean to you? I think love is a connection – understanding the other person and accepting them for who they truly are while elevating them to be the best person that they desire to be. It’s not just buying flowers or jewellery because while those things are nice, it never makes a relationship if those other things are missing. Love is not about buying or taking, it’s about giving. (If you’re reading this Ross, I will still accept any gifts you want to give me lol). Where did you meet your fiancé, Ross? Ha-ha, it’s still so funny calling him my ‘fiancé’. This is a bit of a long story and I’m all about sharing the movie length, not the short trailer version so buckle in! While we lived down the road from each other and went to the same school our entire lives we only met when he did a seminar for my year 10 business class on entrepreneurship. I was 15 and he was 20. He had become very successful in business since leaving school in year 11 (2003) and my teacher saw his story in the newspaper and invited him back to do a seminar (for the class he failed in school). As soon as he walked in all I could think about was how good looking he was, and I didn’t really listen to a thing he FEBRUARY 2022
What’s the craziest thing you two have done together? We’ve lived and worked together for almost 13 years, where do I even start?! I’d say moving to America so young and persuing our careers is up there as crazy.
You recently got engaged while you were feeding a huge crocodile (crikey!) can you tell us what exactly happened? I went to Australia Zoo to feed Graham the Croc – this was to celebrate being on Big Brother VIP to win $100,000 for my charity Wildlife Warriors (founded by Steve and Terri Irwin). Turns out Ross and the Irwins had other plans – plans that I later found out were in the making for a couple of years. We were standing in the Crocosseum as Terri, Robert, and Chandler said, “let’s bring out Graham!” The croc was on the screen and it glitched and appeared to malfunction. I was standing there thinking, “FFS. Of course the one day I come here to feed a croc something goes wrong!” Then I heard ‘Love Story’ by Taylor Swift playing over the speakers (our song when we first got together). I turned around and Ross was walking out of a cloud of smoke in a completely different outfit to what I saw him in 10 minutes before, and now with a box in his hands. It took me 20 seconds to process what was going on because I was full of adrenaline ready to feed a prehistoric creature with a confirmed bite force of 3,700 pounds per square inch ha-ha! I started crying, I think Ross was already crying as he was walking out, he then got on one knee and said, “Will you marry me?” and of course, I said yes.

Tell us a little about the ring… Did you design it? Ross and I have been together for 13 years and we have a whole album full of inspiration for a wedding. But I had been working very closely with Calleija Jewellers since late October 2021 as they were dressing me for all of my events, shoots, and appearances. They asked us if we were considering ever getting married and wanted to help us design our engagement ring later in 2022 when we were ready. Little did I know that around these conversations, Ross had secretly let them in on the plans he had to propose at the croc feed! So before this, they asked me the shape I liked and what I might like to include, which is an R for Ross, D for my daddy and C for Calleija so it was symbolic of the past, present, and future.
celebrate us, but I always trusted that Ross would know when that time was, and it was the most amazingly special day.
can expect something that is going to be very special, intimate, and celebrates us as a couple.
How has the past year changed your perspective on love? The last year has reiterated that everything I have deemed a success or achievement in my life is reflective of the effort I put into it.
During your time on Big Brother VIP, Caitlyn Jenner offered to walk you down the aisle on your wedding day. Can we still expect her to be there on the day? I have a really nice relationship with Cait, we had so much fun on the show! When she asked me, I was honestly just really at a loss for words and you didn’t see it on the show, but I got pretty emotional because that really meant a lot to me since my dad passed. Ross’s dad also passed and my family is non-existent so I always saw myself walking down the aisle alone. She’s a very genuine and sincere person and I love that. We speak often and she’s excited to be a part of our day… whenever and wherever that may be…
You’re a huge advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community since coming out as bisexual five years ago, how did it feel to do this publicly? This was such a huge weight off my shoulders. After my dad died, it put a lot into perspective for me, things that used to matter to me or concerned me before just paled in comparison after going through that loss. It took me a long time to come to terms with having different preferences to a lot of women around me growing up, and it’s not like there During Big Brother VIP earlier this year, you were a huge number of bisexual women to were asked by your housemates why you look up to either, but I did always look up to and Ross weren’t married/engaged at the Angelina Jolie. She paved the way for women time – your answer was incredibly moving. owning not only their sexuality, but genuinely Could you explain what you said? not making it out like it’s that big of a deal to I think it wasn’t something most of the just be yourself – I found it really inspiring. people on the show could really So, when I came out it was an empowering understand as it’s been almost 13 years of moment – even if it made some us being together and people uncomfortable. While that does seem strange to I was standing there so much was positive, with some that we were not social media there was always thinking, “FFS. OF married or even engaged going to be a few people at that point. But Ross and COURSE, the one day I who were bent on telling me I both lost our dads within I was going to hell and some come here to feed a croc three years of each other, even said I did it for attention, I also lost someone who something goes wrong!” which was to be expected. But was like a mother to me, it really didn’t bother me. MINIMAL MOMENT It’s a whole new world and designers have reclaimed the runway as sensual sophistication makes a rightful comeback. More skin, you say? In France, the impossibly-chic Jacquemus continues to bare all, while closer to home, Dion Lee toes the line between sexy and demure with ease. From boardshorts on Bondi to the shores of Sicily, Venroy finds the perfect balance between a relaxed Australian attitude and the high-fashion sensibility of Italian design in their light-hearted leisurewear pieces. Hi Sean! Tell us about Venroy’s journey from boardies to now one of Australia’s most beloved resort wear labels... Venroy started as a passion project. My friend and I started designing boardshorts whilst we were studying full time and we sold our initial production run to a few friends. Word got around and people really loved what we were doing. During a holiday to the USA, it was decided that we would need a Northern Hemisphere business to sustain year-round trade, so I ended up staying on and meeting with buyers. There was a niche for an Aussie swim brand in the market, having been dominated by European labels for some time. Now, we have a full women’s and men’s ready-to-wear and accessories business as well as six stores in Australia, with Byron on the way. 22

@STYLEMAGAZINES
What is it about our Australian sense of style or way of life that resonates on a global scale? Australians really embrace travel and truly appreciate the unwind. I think this wanderlust approach to life is something that filters down to our wardrobes as we insist on comfort in our clothes, without compromising on style. There is a level of authenticity in our leisurewear, as we dress how we like to live and that is something that resonates globally. How do your Italian roots inspire each Venroy collection? Like Australians, Italians know how to live their lives to the fullest. They understand the meaning of leisure, which is something we try to harness in our collections. From Spring ‘21, our collections have been based around a region there, including Amalfi, Puglia, and Sicily, pulling direct references from each destination. In our Sicily collection for HighSummer, for example, we pulled tiles from the famous Villa Tasca and translated the print onto our signature boardshorts. Your pieces are often influenced by your travels around the world. In a time when globetrotting is a lot less accessible, how do you remain inspired? It can be challenging to remain inspired, but the team and I pulled together all the photographs we could, recalling memories whilst also referencing Italian art and film, to realise our vision. We had put a lot of faith in the local teams to execute the campaigns which they do so beautifully. The second the borders opened our design department went overseas to become totally ingrained in the destination for our holiday collection. There’s nothing like going there firsthand and hopefully, that will be felt through the collection when it debuts in the middle of the year. Escapism and nostalgia are cornerstones of the Venroy aesthetic. How do you balance a retro feel while capturing the zeitgeist of 2022? We really try to stay in our lane and design what we love and what we know will resonate with our customers. We’ve come a long way
SPEED ROUND Pasta or pizza? Pasta! A vongole is my favourite.
The Venroy piece you’ll wear for the rest of your life? All our core linen pieces, including pants and tees.
Signature scent? Aesop Hwyl Eau du Parfum.
Drink of choice? Tequila on ice.
Top fashion trend for 2022? Bold, big splashes of colour, and craftsmanship – pieces of clothing that tell a story.
since being a boardshorts brand but I’m so proud of where we are now. Luckily, we’ve built a solid following who trust us and are happy to come on the journey. Leisurewear has seen a grand expansion in recent years, what do you think has led to this surge in popularity for the consumers? I think there is an inherent appreciation for leisurewear in Australia and it is somewhat part of our sartorial DNA. Of course, Covid probably accelerated that sentiment and we saw a return of the ‘comfort is king’ ideal. I think with the opening of borders and the slow return to travel, leisurewear will once again make a resurgence. What does the future hold for Venroy? We hope to open more stores throughout Australia over the next few years. We have our first Byron Bay store slated for August which is exciting. It’s our largest store to date and a footprint of what is to come. International markets are also a particular focus for us soon. FEBRUARY 2022

There’s something
about Mildred! Usually seen at the hottest fashion events around Brisbane in her favourite Zimmermann, Mildred Ellwood has caught our eye with a world of colour and charm. We find out what makes the 2021 Women in Fashion Best Dressed Woman of The Year tick. What does fashion mean to you? It’s about having a unique presence that comes with charisma, energy, identity, elegance, determination, strength, and an eye for art. What do you do outside your world of fashion and frivolity? I’m a nurse of over 16 years! What is your beauty routine? My go-to beauty brand is La Prairie Switzerland and for makeup, I love using brands such as Anastasia Beverly Hills, NARS, Too Faced, Dior, MAC Cosmetics, and Charlotte Tilbury – I am in love with their lipstick. It’s soft on the lips and lasts longer than any others. Favourite outfit you have ever worn? My 2019 Myer Fashions On The Field outfit I designed with my son. The colours at the time were too much but he assured me that was the way to go if I wanted to place in the competition. It’s now the best dress I have ever worn. It gives me comfort, strength, and hope. Since his accident in January 2020, he has woven a piece of thread in that dress, so to speak, and it’s a part of his existence that I hold on to.

Who have been the greatest influences in your life? My children, family, peers, colleagues, and friends. With these people in my life, I have enjoyed motherhood, I have enjoyed being a professional nurse, and I have enjoyed the joyful moments of the present and the hopes and promises of the future. While I continue to grieve the loss of my son since January 2020, I accept that you can’t fix pain but the people around you can influence you to balance and better your life. When I partnered to be an ambassador for Brisbane Racing Club in 2021, Damien Anthony Rossi certainly influenced me to overcome obstacles and achieve merit of my own. What are you looking forward to the most this year? Reflecting on the past, letting go and learning from mistakes and settings goals. Accepting what has been and what will be. Learning the new world we are living in with Covid and staying safe but still being passionate about fashion, creativity, and art. @STYLEMAGAZINES

WEDDINGS
MY BIG DAY Sia & Savva Koulouris 29.05.21
Our favourite details were… the styling, florals, and cake! Absolutely breathtaking. I never expected our reception to look as incredible as it did! We had three of the most talented women come together and concept our wedding.
We both met… 13 years ago (when we were 13!) through our parents. Our dads were best friends, so we met when our families were hanging out together. He proposed when… we were holidaying at Elements of Byron and were staying right by the beach. We were on our way to go for a pre-dinner drink when he led me the opposite way towards the beach where I saw the most beautiful picnic set-up with the words “marry me?” in lights. It was the most serene setting, we sat on the beach and watched the sunset whilst drinking champagne, eating cheese, and being loved up.
It was my dream… since I was young to have my wedding dress made by J’Aton. I actually met with four dress designers in Melbourne, and as soon as I met Jacob from J’Aton I felt that he completely understood me as a person. I had the most incredible experience and Jacob really nailed the brief when I said I wanted a bit of drama! Having cancelled our wedding twice before… we really wanted to make sure it was a day about us and our love, which it absolutely was. We literally couldn’t stop smiling all day and we just had the best time ever.
The ceremony was at… the Greek Orthodox Church of St George, where we both attended since we were born. Our reception was just next door at The Greek Club (where both of our parents were married too!).
We found out after the wedding… that there was a fire in our reception room about 30 mins before guests arrived, but our stylist/venue team got it under control!
Our favourite moment was when… we got into the wedding car after the church ceremony. After waiting 2.5 years to get married due to covid cancellations, it was such a surreal feeling to sit in the car together, have a moment just for us and take in the fact that we finally made it. 28

Within their highly anticipated (and dazzling) event, this auction will have a selection of mesmerising aquamarines on offer. Humbly known across the world as the birthstone for March, the mystical aquamarine is found in a range of hues from pale blue and blue/green to an intense ocean blue (aquamarine of course being Latin for seawater) and can be cut into any shape. At the March Auction will be Leonard Joel’s representative specialist for Queensland, Troy McKenzie, who says many exceptional pieces will be showcased to the discerning buyer. “There are always a few exceptional pieces, but one of my favourites consigned here in Brisbane is a divine platinum art deco ring, showcasing a magnificent 3.50ct Santa Maria aquamarine and approximately 1.50cts of old European diamonds.” Impressive to say the least, Leonard Joel stands out from the crowd when it comes to one-of-a-kind pieces. Being Australia’s oldest auction house with offices in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Adelaide, they are always able to source an interesting assortment of jewellery, art, and collectables. “Quite often these are family heirlooms and pieces that have not been offered for sale in several years, therefore being unique and often a oneoff piece. And also, you can’t miss the thrill of buying at auction!” says Troy.

IN THIS SKIN Navigating the world of skincare is tough enough, but for those who don’t identify with a specific gender, it’s a whole different (marginalised) ballgame. But 2022 is changing that with TheySkin – a new skincare brand by Leona Gallagher – designed to be embraced by all. By ASTRID TAEMETS
Hey Leona! We’re excited to get the goss on this new revolutionary range. In a nutshell, what is TheySkin? The concept is something that has been playing on my mind for a long time. I’ve been working with clients who are transgender, non-binary, or still working it out for years. This has been an eyeopening experience, and I recognise the unique needs of people who undergo significant physical and emotional changes. Often, they don’t know what to do about it and struggle to find products and services. A close family friend’s teenage daughter identifies as non-binary, and through their eyes, I’ve experienced how confusing and unsatisfactory the world of skincare is. This is when I realised we could do more to help this community. How does this range reach those who identify as non-binary? Everyone is unique and everyone’s skin is unique. TheySkin was designed not to fit into classic male and female perceptions 36

of skin – it doesn’t have any feminine scents or masculine branding, or other product features that we tend to associate with these two well-defined markets. Ensuring that TheySkin didn’t conform to any gender stereotypes, as well as being suitable for a range of skin types, hormone levels and stages of life, was of the utmost importance when formulating the initial collection.
What kind of ingredients are used in TheySkin products? Working in the industry for many years has provided me with the expertise of what works best for certain skin conditions, and the knowledge of which ingredients are essential for the skin to function optimally. I have sourced the highest quality ingredients and created “AND THROUGH custom-made formulations that The concept is new to many, THEIR EYES, I’VE are cruelty-free, vegan friendly how do you think it will be EXPERIENCED HOW and sourced within Australia. helpful for gender stereotyping? of my favourite products CONFUSING AND One It’s difficult to find something in our initial collection is the UNSATISFACTORY Turmeric Latte Masque. My makeup mantra is, “best version of you.” I love looks that don’t change your features but enhance them; looks that bring your inner confidence to the forefront. What that is will be perfectly unique for every person, of course. Exploring trends is so much fun, but at the end of the day it’s all about wearing your look with confidence, so whatever that is, do you. Unless it’s a mullet in which case, do not.

FEELING CHEEKY While the lips are the most frequently injected feature, you may not realise that cheek fillers are just as popular at The Skin Lab. Weary of contouring? Well, there may be another solution for you. Cheek fillers are gaining popularity for their mostly pain-free, dramatic results, with basically no downtime. While there might be a little bit of swelling or bruising at the injection sites, you can go to work the next day without so much as a second glance (or maybe a few glances at your new flawless contoured cheekbones!). Cheek fillers can create that sculpted and contoured look without going under the FEBRUARY 2022
knife, or even using any heavy makeup. As we age, we naturally lose volume in our cheeks, which can result in a “hollowed” look, where the plump cheeks of our youth begin to lose volume and hollow out as we make less collagen. Fillers can help restore that collagen and volume, plus the youthful look associated with full cheeks. If you aren’t concerned so much with volume loss due to ageing but want to add some height to barely visible cheekbones, fillers will do the trick. While we are not all blessed with supermodel cheeks, this powerful multitasking treatment not only works to enhance the cheek area and profile, but improves the appearance of a sagging jawline and can brighten and erase wrinkles under the eyes. We suggest combining your new cheeks with lips to create the perfect cheeky and kissable Valentine’s Day look. The great news is that with effort, love can be enhanced with these tips: • Hug and kiss when leaving the home and arriving back. • Eat together nightly and check-in as to what each of you is doing. • Overlook small negatives that peeve you about your partner. • Explore fun new places, hobbies, and adventures together. • Discuss your expectations, hopes, and dreams. • Remember your partners best qualities by considering what their friends would say about them. • Be intimate regularly as it increases attraction and attractiveness. • Generate positive thoughts about your partner and write reminders about what you value about them. You shape your emotions and romantic feelings are no different. Go on, take the challenge, it’s absolutely worth it!
Spider veins are red, varicose veins are blue. If you have either, here is what you can do! At The Leg Vein Doctor, these are treated using very fine needles to target the individual veins and flush them through with a chemical sclerosant. Spider veins are considered to be cosmetic and retreatment is usually required every few years. Varicose veins on the other hand are larger bluish veins, often they can become “ropey” and protrude from the skin. They are predominantly treated using ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy and the larger ones may require endovenous laser ablation. These newer procedures replace surgical stripping and allow patients to be treated without the need for hospitalisation and a general anaesthetic. The results are highly effective and with very small recurrence rates when compared to surgery. THE LEG VEIN DOCTOR 465 MILTON RD, AUCHENFLOWER P 3720 9912 THELEGVEINDOCTOR.COM

The look of love
Get to know yourself skin deep
There’s romance in the air when designing wedding suiting for grooms and brides. We are fortunate to be in the position of authority on wedding suiting and in a “normal” year, we dress about 500 grooms at the height of wedding season. Personally, I have fitted over 4,000 weddings. Through this experience, we have been able to create a deep understanding of the needs of both brides and grooms. With this, we have created a Wedding Suit Guide, full of 18 pages of insight, tips, and advice on everything you need to consider. We discuss everything from what looks best on you, the style and theme of the wedding, the common misconceptions of wedding suits, and important timings. Love is at the centre of personal style and selecting a wedding suit is an important decision that needs careful consideration. Go to weddings.wilvalor.com.au to download your copy.
You’re not alone if you believe the world of skincare can be overwhelming and confusing at times! Often we can self-select products that aren’t addressing the underlying condition of our skin, wasting time and money and making the condition worse. One of the most undervalued tools in our treatment arsenal at The Skin Lab is the Observ Skin Analysis: free personalised skincare plans and cosmetic consultations to assess your skin and create a tailored treatment plan. After all, when you’re investing so much thought into your skin, you want it to be for the right reasons! The skin is much more complex than what can be seen with the naked eye. As part of your skin consultation, we use the Observ 520 for professional skin analysis. Using this advanced technology we can view blemishes, fine lines, dryness, and uneven skin tone in depth. Book in for a free cosmeceutical skincare consultation today to start your optimum skin health journey.

Cold coffee bliss!
The sweet side of chocolate
Before Covid, the humble cafe or coffee house served as a meeting place and social contact for the whole community. But following more than two years of restrictions, lockdowns, and mandates, the ways people make, buy, and drink coffee has changed. More people are working (and making their coffee) from home. As industry leaders, we have worked hard to find ways of recreating that social connection and experience! However, not every coffee drinker has the skill of a trained barista or can afford the high-end espresso machine needed to reach that cafe-quality experience at home. Purchasing cold brew products like Cold Wolff Concentrate or Cold Wolff RTD cask coffees provides consumers with a convenient way to drink and customise iced latte and iced long blacks at home. As summer heats up, you can enjoy a delicious specialty cold brew on tap straight from the fridge – super convenient in the comfort of your own home. Coffee bliss!
Why do we associate the gift of chocolate with romance and love? Probably because of the feel-good sensations we experience when we eat cocoacontaining products such as chocolate. The mood-enhancing effects of eating moderate amounts of chocolate have been well-documented. The good news is that research has shown how chocolate is also associated with improved cognitive ability and may have longterm protective benefits against cognitive decline. Whilst chocolate has low glycaemic properties, it is also energy-dense – a little bit goes a long way. Top tips to enjoy your chocolate are: • Choose a good quality dark chocolate. • Eat chocolate as a treat, not instead of healthy foods. • Limit the amount of chocolate you have to no more than 25-30g on any day. • Be mindful, savour the first mouthful, it’s always the best. • Like all good things, chocolate is better shared! Love the skin you’re in
For the love of print
Love doesn’t just mean a romance between two people. Love is about you and love is also for you! And taking care of the skin you’re in is a great way to practice a little self-love. When you take care of yourself internally, it contributes to your external appearance. Think: more radiant, glowing, and stress-free! Likewise, when you take care of yourself on the outside, it contributes to how you feel on the inside. At The Verve Lounge, our rose quartz ampoule facial takes you on a romantic sensory journey that is designed to heal your skin from the inside out. It’s a facial that gives your skin a little tender loving care as we drain away the negative energy with the rose quartz and infuse your skin with our luxurious rose ampoules. Self-love never felt so good!
I grew up in a household where I shared the love of reading a newspaper and magazine with my dad. So, there’s no surprise that I have spent my career working with clients who invest their money in old school publishing. If you’re a local business looking to share your story, an advertorial is the perfect medium. The benefits of this include access to a hyper-engaged and quantified reader, leveraged credibility, and more flexibility and options when it comes to placement. Plus, studies show that print advertorials drive action and create valuable awareness for your brand. When I started in media 25+ years ago, the landscape might have been different, but one thing’s for sure – print has never been more alive.

TRAVEL
GET OUTTA TOWN
Carlo, Photographer
Where: Sydney. The weather was: Pretty good actually! Some hot days so we headed straight to Bondi, naturally.
What did you get up to: I shot a beautiful wedding and also made some epic videos for my YouTube channel. Then of course I had to catch up on the cafe scene!
The borders stayed open, the lunch reservations remained, and our staff were itching for an EOY holiday. Here’s where three of our Stylers escaped to this summer…
Local hangout you loved: Paramount Coffee Project in Surry Hills. Check out their IG: @pcpsydney.
Next stop: Japan or Hawaii. Lessssgo!
Bridget, Senior Designer Courtney, Content Manager
Where: Hamilton Island,
Where: Byron Bay Hinterland. The weather was: Rainy
The weather was: Dismal
and cold – we all had to rush out and buy jumpers the day after we arrived. Who would have thought!
What did you get up to: We ate amazing food at places like The Farm, Mez Club, The Eltham Hotel, and Harvest Newrybar, shopped at some of my favourite local boutiques like Tigmi Trading and Hope & May, drank too many cocktails, played countless card games, curled up with good books, laughed, swam, and spent quality time with family.
Local hangout you loved:
Whitsundays. when we arrived, but then the sun came through with the goods!
What did you get up to: So much! Snorkelling, kayaking, hiking, helicopter tour, swimming (to the swim up pool bar) and then we ate until we could eat no more – all topped up with an obligatory QLD sunburn.
Local hangout you loved: Dent Island Golf Club. The food was the best, closely followed by the views!
Next stop: If I’m dreaming, Japan. If I’m realistic, Northern Territory.
Rae’s, always.
Next stop: Tasmania for my 30th in July! FEBRUARY 2022

HOME
HOME SWEET OFFICE
The days of slouching over kitchen benches and lazing on lounges are over with these easy tips to create stylish and productive spaces. By ANNA WALL Working from home has become the norm in the pre, mid, and post-pandemic landscape. While it’s a dream for the work-life balance, the days of impressive contortions on the couch and slouching over kitchen benches are wearing thin. With more time spent in the home, we’ve all become burgeoning interior designers with dreams of stylish and productive WFH spaces so, we found four easy ways you can create one at home.
Find a space It doesn’t take long to realise working cross-legged on the lounge is neither comfortable nor productive for eight hours a day. For us small-space dwellers, finding an alternative can be tricky, which is why we’re totally here for 2022’s home office trend: the cloffice. This closet-office hybrid refers to a closet (or wardrobe for us Aussie’s) with open shelves that have been repurposed into an office. Not only will a cloffice make use of space you likely already have, but it also allows you to “shut up” the office and truly switch off at the end of the day. Work/life balance sorted!
Pimp your desk From wall colours to furnishings and lighting, it’s no surprise that what you surround yourself with daily will shape the way you feel, and impact your productivity too. Invest in key pieces like an ergonomic chair and good lighting and keep your favourite books close by. Then, when you reach a natural dip in the day, reach for your favourite novel intstead of opting for more screen time.
Go green As the colour of nature and life, green evokes fresh and invigorating emotions and inspires productivity. Try to incorporate shades of green in stationery, furnishings, and paintings, and decorate your desk with houseplants for the ultimate touch of greenery.
Inspiration in sight! Staying focused without the friendly workplace banter can be tough, but there’s no better way to stay motivated than a vision board full of inspiration; from travel photos of far-off destinations to inspiring quotes and goals for the future – a vision board helps you manifest your dreams for the year ahead and offers healthy inspiring distractions for when your eyes need a little rest from the screen.

“This year, my goals have been set around my practice and wellbeing. In my practice, I aspire to experiment with new mediums and show artwork interstate. I am striving to work with national and international fashion clients. I will focus on being present in nature, as this is where I find my true inspiration. This means creating meaningful connections with the community and taking time to slow down and take in the beauty of the everyday.”
“My goal this year is to make up for a bit of lost time! Covid has been a great period of reflection and recalibration, giving me a renewed sense of purpose and energy. After training for my first ever marathon in Brisbane, I will be heading to New York to visit some completed projects. Although I have enjoyed exploring beautiful new spots on home soil, I haven’t been to my LA studio in over two years. After that, London, Italy, Poland, and Tokyo!”
