2020 Subiaco Football Club Annual Report

LITTLE LEAGUE REPORT Firstly, I would like to thank Peter Capes and the Subiaco Football Club for providing me the opportunity to perform the Little League Manager’s duties again this year, which I was only too happy to do as this has been my 25th year in the job. As far as I’m aware, we were the only WAFL Club that provided the opportunity for Little League this year and as always, it’s great to be able to put smiles on these kids’ faces. All of our junior metro teams were represented over the four weeks that we had home games. This meant that about 160 juniors took park in Little League during this compressed season. Being such an unusual season, and to work in with the Covid-19 policies to cater for social distancing, we split each team into four different groups to enable the juniors to experience different areas of the home ground. One group would visit the reception area to see the memorabilia of the Club’s history where Teigan was only too happy to oblige and answer any questions. A second group would take a tour with my grandsons, Blake and Tyler, into the grandstand and passed the coaches’ boxes, while the third group was watching players warm up and the fourth group was taken into the medical room by Tania who discussed the goings-on. Thank you to these ladies for your special efforts. None of this would have been possible if it wasn’t for Beau Wardman allowing us to socially distance ourselves from the League players in the changerooms. Thank you so much to Beau and to the Support Staff who allowed us to continue our tradition. We kept away from the players as much as possible but were still able to see their warmups and of course, form the guard of honour which provides an exciting experience for the junior players. Thank you to the Reserve players for joining us in the guard of honour.

I’d like to thank Justin Langer for giving his time to speak to the junior players during the first home game. This was Justin’s only opportunity to attend a Subi game this season. He’s always only too happy to have a word to the Little League players and to share his pride in our Club. As that first home game unfolded, Matt Priddis, our Football Legend for 2020, offered to also address the junior players. It’s such a thrill for the kids, and their parents, to have these sporting legends speak to us, both of whom had played Little League back in their day. Home games 2, 3 and 4 saw Peter Capes approach me with the offer of two $50 vouchers donated by Rebel Sports, to be presented to Little League players on the day. I decided to reward the most enthusiastic player from each side/team, thus presenting two vouchers at each home game. This was really well received and appreciated by the players and parents. A huge thank you to Rebel Sports on behalf of Subiaco Little League. My sincere thanks to Mark Lawrence along with the players that were injured throughout the season and made themselves available to talk to the kids during the second quarter of each match. We appreciate your time. Whilst all of this was done differently this year, we all know this has been a very different year but we were able to continue with our Subiaco tradition of making a positive impact on our junior players and their parents. Thanks to all our Subi supporters. Hilly 100% Subi
