DISTRICT FOOTBALL REPORT With 2021 bringing so much uncertainty to the community football landscape, I think it is certainly fair to say that seeing our great game return to somewhat of its original format following on from COVID, brought plenty of joy to the people of the Subiaco district. Our highly committed Club presidents and their fabulous committees remained agile whilst operating in at times, unexpected Brodie Riach circumstances navigating COVID to get the season underway. These Clubs are made up of dedicated volunteers, eager to give back to football in some capacity in which they do a fantastic job. The WAFC truly value the contribution of all 1,700 volunteers across junior football within the Subiaco district.

The Lions District culture is a culture often spoken about regarding its professionalism, respect, and hard work. This culture, and its attributes are no better displayed than by our great umpires who make our game possible. They strive to make our game better each week. A role that certainly presents its challenges and obstacles, the Subiaco district umpires display great leadership and resilience, and this is reflected by the Subiaco district umpiring manager Chris Spencer. Chris’s dedication to ensuring the development of the Lions district umpiring pathway, contributes heavily to the growth of umpire participation in WA community football. With the appreciation and gratitude that comes with the completion of the football season, the effort that all teams put forward in season 2021 were certainly commendable. All Subiaco District affiliated Clubs and players should be proud of the effort displayed this season.
