We have a couple of new signings and I’m looking forward to integrating them into the team.

BUTCHER IN BRIEF

Poole Town Ladies’ Head Coach reflects on last weekend’s defeat

L

ast weekend, we played away to Keynsham Town Ladies who, with Southampton Womens, are joint top of the league. That game started well for us against a very strong team and we defended well at times but we a had a bad period towards the mid-point of the half and conceded, what were to me, very easy goals. We had a chat at half time and the second half was more constructive as a team effort. Since Sunday, all I’ve done is look back at games, especially the Larkhall Athletic and Watford games, to see what we did well then and are not doing now. So, now and for the rest of the season, that’s what I’ll be working on. We have a couple of new signings and I’m looking forward to integrating them into the team. This week we have Chesham United - another tough game. I don’t know much about them but we will give them respect and will play our game. 4

Poole Town Ladies’ skipper Becca Witherington says there’s no room for complacency against Chesham United

T

his Sunday brings new territory for new and old players of Poole Town Ladies, as Chesham United Ladies are new to the National League. Looking at how we did last season, which was our first season in the league, we know that they deserve it as much as us even though they have only just entered this league. We will treat it like all of our games. We all want the next three points under our belt and we are getting hungrier and hungrier for it. The work rate and intensity of each player has heightened and we will be hoping to prove it in this game! I’m really looking forward to the match as always! 5

VERSATILE Playing high up midfield or back in defence, Poole Town’s Jessica Ellwood on adapting to multiple positions

Hi Jess, how do you feel the season is going so far? It’s definitely been a challenge. The team have had a few new players this season, me being one, as well as losing a few and have had some injuries so it hasn’t been easy. We need to take our chances in the next few games to gain some points.

What would you say is your favoured position or do you prefer to be versatile? I really like playing both roles. I am naturally more defensive but want to work on my attacking game. Playing as a wing back probably suits me best. Who do you compare yourself to?

You joined the squad in the summer. How have you found settling in since then?

I don’t know about compare but I would say I’d aspire to play like Kyle Walker with his speed, Really well, the girls have been strength and ability to create great. It’s always hard joining a chances. new team and learning how they like to play but I haven’t played What do you get up to in life at this level of football before outside football? so it’s been great to learn and develop my game. I try and keep my fitness up at the gym and I enjoy going out We’ve seen you play at full-back with my family and other half, as well as further up the pitch. especially to watch West Ham. 7

CHESHAM UNITED TODAY’S OPPOSITION A new team in the league for 2018/19, Chesham United’s start to the season has been consistently inconsistent; perfectly imperfect.

League Table 1. Keynsham Town Ladies 2. Southampton Womens

That’s demonstrated by a record of four wins and four defeats, as well as 16 goals scored and 16 conceded in their first eight games this season.

3. Cheltenham Town Ladies

Those results see them sit fifth in the league table on 12 points ahead of today’s fixture, nine points more than Poole.

6. Buckland Athletic Ladies

4. Brislington Ladies 5. Chesham United Ladies

7. Larkhall Athletic Ladies 8. Southampton Saints

Chesham’s last three league games have resulted in very few goals, incorporating two wins (1-0 against Cheltenham Town Ladies and 1-0 against Swindon Town Ladies) and one defeat (2-1 against Southampton Womens).

9. Swindon Town Ladies 10. Poole Town Ladies 11. Maidenhead Utd Ladies

League Leaders Keynsham Town Ladies brushed Poole Town Ladies aside last Sunday with a convincing 9-0 win. Poole went into the game following a 3-0 defeat to Southampton in the FA Cup, but encouraged by a decent second half performance. Goals from Bartlett, Lorton, Yorston, Hillman, and Williams meant the result was never in doubt for the home side, leaving Poole in tenth.
