In the movie ‘Dead Poets Society’, John Keating, played by the late Robin Williams, is a former pupil of the prestigious boys’ school Welton Academy, and he returns there in 1959 to teach English
In one scene early on, Keating takes the boys into the foyer of theschool hall to view photos of past pupils He remindsthem all of these long-passed students were just like them - with hopes and promise, with problems and joys
The main point of this lecture comes when Keating tells them it is important to make their lives matter, to “seizethe day” - to embrace life, identify what mattersto themand then live it He urges the students to make their lives extraordinary Yes, they will one daybemere faces in a photo, but between their births and deaths, they can choose to make their lives matter.
The same applies to us Certainly, life can be challenging - but with God’s help, we can overcome
