EDITOR'S NOTE: This is the first of three communities we will profile, which will provide information to voters. Veteran journalist Jana Soeldner Danger breaks down the candidates.

1. Why are you running for office? 2. What is the biggest problem facing your city and what would you do about it? 3. What is one thing the current commission is doing right? 4. How would you like to see the city change? 5. Why should you be elected instead of your opponent?

This election year, don’t let fluff get in the way of reality

There is nothing that shapes a community more than its administration. What mayors and commissioners do for a city is keep it together and give the residents comfort in knowing that the elected officials will be progressive, but at the same time, help lower taxes and other ways of spending. Beginning today, the South Florida Sun Times will take a look at our communities - with the important election just three weeks away. What veteran journalist Jana Soeldner Danger will ask of all those candidates running for office are questions that will help residents make that important decision. That decision will certainly change the landscape of the city you now live in. As you know, when it comes to shaping communities, I have several ideas about officials and cities that have brought hundreds and hundreds of e-mails and letters, and while I have never attacked people or a person, those who are running to run, know who they are. If they don't, they will soon. I will not be a community watchdog. Don't have the time to do that, and I think most are just pests who have no voice. The things that I have had the pleasure of doing in my over 40 adult years in this region of South Florida is to be progressive, offering up ideas on what will be great for growth and to help put an end to this recession that seems to be getting worse in some areas. Because we are everywhere in our coverage area, we are always hearing feedback - from mayors, commissioners, city managers and residents who long applaud what we do as a fair publication that is all about making this a better place to live. –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– BLUSTEIN, Page 11A
